Well, things are getting mighty interesting in Veep speculation-ville.
Jeralyn notes that more speakers have been added to the Wednesday line-up -- the night on which the Veep candidate traditionally speaks. Included in the latest batch of speakers is Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island, 12 year Army veteran and an often-touted potential Veep pick.
Things that make you go, hmmmmm...
In addition, Al Gore just got a plum speaking gig on Thursday evening at the convention. And the Obama folks haven't exactly been sticking to the scripted schedule thus far, now have they?
Add into the mix that Sen. Joe Biden says he isn't the guy...except that just means that he isn't the guy unless he's told definitively that he is the guy...and questions abound. And other connected folks around the Beltway have been pointing in Biden's direction.
Steve Clemons seems fairly certain it won't be Wes Clark. And Forbes says Tim Kaine is out of the mix, while touting Chris Dodd.
It's all likely pre-convention buzz ramping kabuki. But, honestly, it would be irresponsible not to speculate, wouldn't it?

Aloha, Christy!
zed
Rachel gets her own show! Yeah!!!
If the decision has been made, the secret’s being well kept ain’t it?
I am OK with Dodd.
Rachel gets her own show! Yeah!!!
crap.
We were gonna tell you that she got fired.
crap. *g*
As I said on Lindsay’s thread, It doesn’t really matter who Obama chooses — his choice is damn near guaranteed to piss off more than half of the party. One would hope that we’ll get over our little fits of pique, pull up our socks, grow up (I’m talking to you, PUMA putzes), and work together to defeat that antediluvian fossil.
I know, I know!!!
Obama will choose McCain as VP, since he has all that foreign policy experience….or….Joe Lieberman!!! I just knew it.
CT I guess that makes you happy /S
But all kidding aside she is a great TV personality and I am already tired of waiting for the first show!!
Veep is what it is.
Before enlightenment: Plant rice.
After enlighenment: Plant rice.
I can’t get engaged on this subject.
You’d try that, eh? 8-P
Also, it gets rid of Dan Abrams who seemed to make a point of trying to grind off my last good nerve…
Christy, on the down side of the new speakers, I saw where Nancy Keenan, National NARAL and Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood are speaking on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
Maybe Jane can get them on camera explaining why Short Ride was such a good selection for the CT Senate seat.
oh, did I say “We”?
of course not. Wouldn’t think of it. Never. Nuh-uh.
It’s PUMFA to you, hon.
I thought Reed had already been eliminated from contention. Gore would be a (mostly) welcome surprise.
MMmmmm…. Rice! You’re right.
Well, she has been fired as KO’s guest host.
OK the Digg is open so go ahead and Digg it!
Say what? Now I’m confused…!
Rice is nice, as long as it’s not Condi Rice.
Heh. I like that. Chop wood, carry water.
Thing is…I can’t stand the thought of President Jeb Bush or Joe Lieberman or whatshisname the terror color chart guy…VP’s will matter in this election on both sides. JMHO
Wash your mouth out with soap… [stamps off to find the brain bleach]
I’m just having some fun with the acronym. Think about it.
:-)
McCain’s will matter much more, because there’s an excellent chance that s/he will actually have to do the job when McThuselah starts to drool in public…
Deeply into chopping wood, but not carrying water. The elemental has some appeal at this point in the political experience.
I admit I’m VP flexible
LOL…I think he already drools..everytime he looks down at his cue cards…like every two seconds..He can’t seem to remember an entire phrase or sentence…even with the cards…Oy vey.
Soap and brain bleach not a good accompaniment to elderberry jam. Mind your slurs or breakfast here will be much diminished.
Touché! I confess, I never actually knew what the damn acronym stood for. Your version is infinitely better!
Maybe its all part of the plan. In an era when political leadership that has is skillful, honest and wholesome seems to be nerely extincit, it is hard to believe that the undertainty is a sign of bumbling. I do hope Obama keeps his reputation as a great politician.
If he is, he has to make a choice that most of his wide coalition will find more than OK.
But, cynical me don’t care at all. Any of the possibilities are fine with me, given the circumstances. Anything to deliver us from the insaniacs and vicious goofballs on the other side.
Sorry… It was just the use of rice, which is a major food group for me, and That Woman in the same breath. Please forgive me, and allow us to hope for more homemade preserves on Sunday!
for those who are in denver for convention week - free bicycles for getting around town available 7am to 7pm:
https://www.freewheelinwaytogo.com/Registration/PreRegistrationWelcome.aspx
Oh…I thought your comment was referring to the zen concept that prior to enlightenment or “post” enlightenment you still have to plant rice. Hence the reference to chop wood, carry water…which means the same thing…
dugg and thanks for opening it nahant
ya want i should activate the new fangled brain bleach sprinkler system?
Bill Maher’s on Larry King. He thinks Hillary should be veep. Or, at least, he says that’s what he thinks today.
Wow that’s pretty cool, although it probably increases the likelihood some of the lowlanders will keel over.
Yep. Don’t plant rice or chop wood or move water. But Sunday I moved chopped wood for a couple of three hours, so that’s as close as I can come to zen.
What an absolutely splendid idea! It might be a bit of a challenge, however, for folks who come from places where the landscape is as flat as a table to bike around in the mountains!
Why don’t they go to the St Paul convention with their buddy Joe Lieberman?
Wow, I would pay lotsa money for an on-camera interview by any Lakemistress of the Duplicitous Duo!
Where are you and how are you? Go lite on the brain bleach. It’s not an emergency.
Well .. if McCain chooses HoJo .. that would really stir things up .. now wouldn’t it? .. PUMA’s or not
OOOOH — we have one of those? Fabulous! I trust you have it set on auto-start, so I won’t have to go stamping off to find mine any more. Thanks!
LOL…I hear ya…
I am, however, not Bayh-curious.
If he’s that fracking stupid even I won’t vote for him.
Bayh’s hair part annoys me. What the hell is that??? Why does his part annoy me? That is really shallow LS…yes, I know.
*sigh* ok, the usual brain bleach jugs are at all power strips *sigh* i’m just itching to push that big red button.
i’m on the coast in a vacation rental just north of newport, oregon, and enjoying it immensely. gotta start my search for more permanent housing soon so i can get my critters up here with me.
Yanking Bermuda grass out of the flower beds can be “zen-ish,” because you know it’s like dusting… As soon as you’re done, it’s time to start again.
Is Dodd scheduled to speak?
Sorry for the OT, but somebody’s request from two floors down has been answered, courtesy of the incorrigible darkblack.
;~P
Exactly. He doesn’t “think” anything– he just talks randomly in a ridiculous attempt to come across as an independent.
That is so exciting!!
Mwahahahahahaa…
Thanks DB!!! Priceless!
Lesseee. Save the red button brain bleach for when the D Veep is announced? That would be on-topic for this thread.
Sounds like a great life. Surely you can procrastinate on getting a permanent place and thus reuniting with your critters. Freedom has it benefits.
lol - denver’s elevation isn’t that high… is it high enough to notice? i don’t remember that.
Purrfect. Like weeding my herb garden (herbs are weeds, something incredibly profound in that).
Ya know, when I think about the republicanites that are coming to my town, I believe it would be appropriate for the GOP to file an environmental impact statement. HoJo is poster boy for toxic waste. Hi everyone.
Don’t thank me.
I’m not worthy
But the expression on Mc100Years is priceless!
Bayh’s hair part annoys me. What the hell is that??? Why does his part annoy me?
Oh, if the truly
unforunatetragic comes to pass, and Bayh gets the nod, you’ll find *lots* more to be annoyed by.i remember denver being quite flat - had to go a ways west to get into the mts.
or am i remembering some other place besides denver?
Mile high city. Makes a big diff to lowlanders.
mile high city
Abrams just said that Obama has sent out an email referring to his VP pick requirements and using “he” 4 times.
Hillary or Sibelius.
Uh - nemmind
see my initials are DB, too
Hey McIdiot, can I borrow your chapeau?
I think that’s what I get from studying his annoying part…I think it says it all.
exactly - it has nothing to do with getting rid of the weeds: i weed the garden in order to weed the garden.
Midwest planes tilted upward to Rockies. So while the planes appear flat when you’re there, your ears would pop if you travelled them quickly.
Ha. You owe me.
I think you deserve thanks for posting it!
Denver is pretty high if you’re not acclimated. If you live near sea level, you’ll notice.
Well, when I lived there in ‘03 and ‘04, it had some flat sections but there were hills of varying sizes just off the 16th Street Mall area and going off in most all directions.
Make that “plains.”
Despite Biden’s part in the bankruptcy bill (and probably other votes that I will be made aware of) I like him. Personally. I like his intelligence, his wit (other than his 7/11 joke), his quickness etc. I think he could smack down McCain better than Obama’s doing.
I liked him during the debates (remember his response to the guy who called his gun ‘baby’?). I could happily support him. More so than the other guys being mentioned.
He’s a smart guy who values intelligence and education….and I think we’ll get some one-liners about McCain which will be offensive and not politically correct but what we desperately need.
I thought you were talking about airplanes. :-)
Goddess, I’m glad you clarified that!!! I pictured planes flying at a very strange angle!
perfect - the cone of stupidity
Um, motor mouth who is a lighted fuse to explode the Ds.
Sorry to be continuously negative on Ds, but don’t see any hope until better Ds get farther up the chain.
ian is upstairs
Well, the altitude alone will slay us coastal types!
So Rachel is out as VP nominee. ;-)
Oy. Planes, plains, perhaps it’s time to retire. The next mistake will be my last one for tonight.
Didn’t officially happen to Reagan.
How about a brandy?
I believe she prefers Scotch
I swear I know who it is, I am absolutely positive
for teh first time in history we will have a vp running on both tickets, it will be joe lieberman on obama’s ticket AND mccain’s ticket
you can bank on this prediction
you beat me too it1
*sulks*
Despite some of his votes and missteps (yes, including the credit card bill and the Iraq vote), Biden is the best VP choice hands down. After watching Claire McCaskill in a polite, extremely competent performance get smacked around by Tom Ridge, I had to concede to myself that the number one requirement in a veep candidate is his/her brawling ability. Isn’t there a saying about the first priority in governing is getting elected? Biden is a big mouth, wisecracking white guy who happens to know a hell of a lot about foreign policy. Gephardt screwed him at the last minute on the AUMF. Jerk.
Being a former RI resident, Jack Reed has been for the most part an excellent Senator. The down-side of him as a VP candidate would be the Republican RI governor (in office til 2010) who would appoint his replacement (and we wouldn’t luck out with Lincoln Chaffee this time - not that he’s a Republican anymore).
