Who loves Jesus more?
That’s what we’re about to find out as Barack Obama meets John McSame at Rick Warren’s megachurch in the heartland of America – Orange County, California.
A note on Warren — he helped Bush get elected in 2004. And Serious Person of Faith Andrew Sullivan calls him "pernicious."
For the record, this practicing Roman Catholic thinks this is absolutely terrible for the republic and a huge freaking embarrassment. But aided by a pretty decent pinot noir, I’ll give you my thoughts, in real time.
Let’s get ready to rumble!

They flipped a coin — Obama won. Now that’s the kind of thing I’d wanna see live.
“Senator Obama, you call it in the air.”
halleluia
You’re a brave man, BT!
Wow, Obama gets warm, standing ovation. Lots of smiles.
Gonna read the Bible verses to you now.
Do you, as a Muslim, have any issues with these verses?
Obama starts off with a joke praising Warren — everyone laughs and applauds.
cool
drunk commenting the drunk blogging of The Obama-McCain Faith Smackdown
Talking about his [white] grandma, Rosie the Riveter in the Greatest Generation.
Praising Tom Coburn now. Strike one for Barack Obama.
“Who loves Jesus more?”
The question is…”who am I”…
The other quesion is who does Jesus love more.
Our country is so f’d up.
The entire country needs therapy.
Obama seems very relaxed and at ease.
Talking about people he listens to — first name that comes up, after family members, is Sam Nunn. Then Dick Lugar.
Hmmm.
“Okay, okay, okay” from Pastor Rick seems to mean, “MY turn, magic negro.”
What channel????
may goddess have mercy on your neurons, BT! :)
With the last question, McCain will be given the opportunity to address cheating on his wife – or not.
Obama cops to drug us, drinking — talks about being selfish.
I have to say, he really seems perfectly at home. He doesn’t seem at all uncomfortable. “I realized it’s not about me.”
“I like that,” says Warren.
Applause.
CNN.
C-Span 1
CSPAN 1 for me
Obama claiming friendship w/ Tom Coburn.
Five yards for unnecessary pandering.
And an additional fifteen for poor taste. “Off-side *and* Off-color…”
yo!
Good Matthew quote Obama!
For the record, the OC is NOT the heartland of America. More like the black hole of this otherwise great state….
Obama busts out the Matthew, “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers…”
Applause.
Good librul Democrat bible verse.
Uh, that was sarcasm.
I wonder if Pastor Rick has his big toe on the APPLAUSE sign. Seems like when he sez, “Uh-um, yup,” the crowd goes wild. Of course, they are conditioned to do so every Sunday, right?
Thanks!
MSNBC too.
I don’t care what Warren whathisname thinks!!!!
He is not my “God Filter”…I don’t want any human being “telling” me what I should “believe”.
Go Filter yourself.
Obama talks about his opposition to the war, and there’s absolute silence.
Is Obama graying more or am I just noticing?
funny, they don’t do that in my church.
it’s been mentioned on a blog somewhere. Is it real or is it Clairol?
Warren asks a pretty good question about “flip-flopping” — that sometimes it’s smart to change your mind.
Obama says he changed his mind about welfare reform.
“It worked better than a lot of people anticipated…We have to have work in social policy.” [applause]
I noticed it too. Probably stopped dying it..
Speaking now about how his opposition to Clinton’s welfare reform is something he has “flip-flopped” on (as Warren characterizes changing one’s mind)
Or lighting issue? Or really close cut? Don’t know…
Welfare reform hasn’t worked, Obama, and the impending economic meltdown will highlight that fact…
“Saddam Hussein was a real bad person” is the kind of GOP talking point I don’t like hearing come out of the mouth of the Democratic nominee for President.
For that matter, George W Bush is a real bad person. Focus on that, please, Barack.
Oh, I wanted to ask that, but thought if I did that I’d get yelled at.
Oh no. You mean I need to spend more time reading them elitist blogs? :)
On “Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me” on NPR today, they had an eyebrow specialist call in and say that McCain needs to dye his eyebrows because they are half gray and half brownish black. She said he could look a lot younger. I wonder when we see darker eyebrows?
Oh God, Rick Warren, he reminds me so much of Jerry Falwell that i feel sick. Why is Obama there? Warren is a pontificating asshole. These people will never vote for Obama yet Obama he disses his base. As I have said many times, I don’t want to have a beer with my President because he is just like me, I want a President that I would never have a beer with because I am not smart enough. I think that today I could have a beer with Obama. I am very sad.
Commercial breaks?
Ha-ha, sponsored by Verizon, who couldn’t have seen that coming?
Man, that pastor has one of those creepy, oleagenous smiles… Eeeewww…
Obama talks about the war again. He’s very calm, at ease.
I don’t know how well his anti-Iraq-war is playing for this crowd, but it’s smart for him to keep raising it.
I’m watching the Cubs game. Much more fun. But I’ll follow the live blog so I don’t miss anything :-)
Doesn’t that fall under the “fashion commentary exception” rule?
We heard that in the car on our Bataan Death March day of errands today and we howled!
On the moral issue, will McCheater mention the ditching of his first wife for Cindy…?
I thought you were unfairly mod-ed recently. Just so ya know.
but he wears cool Hawaiian shirts. Isn’t that enough for you?
Wow…Im surprised that made it past the mods…really unnecessary. IMHO
I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that damn near everyone in that audience either has a family member in Iraq or is close to a family that does. He wants to bring those kids home…
Okay, seriously, on MSNBC they just had a Clairol commercial.
**
BT – I don’t have handle on who this crowd is, but isn’t there very little support for the Iraq War anywhere anymore.
Obama sounded like he was full of crap during that whole exchange.
No. This has been another episode of…
gah. reply not working. My 50 was for demi@39 and my other was for RevDeb @32.
Thanks for your support. Fortunately, my skin’s gotten thicker since I’ve been frequenting this site, but, still thank you.
I wish he would straighten his head. I’m getting a sore neck watching him.
Warren – “No matter how you answer these questions, somebody’s not gonna like it.”
“So feel free to
say what you meanfuck up.”“Please!”
Where is McCain? In the Cone of Silence?
Obama talks about being a Christian, and how he feels about it.
I’m starting to think Obama wins the night just for showing up.
Try emptying your cache. Should help.
and he’s avuncular!
reminds me to wash my robes before I get back into the pulpit next weekend.
Abortion. Here we go.
Here comes the mine field of abortion…
I admire you for your comments above.
Just scanned comments, so maybe this has been addressed.
How does a church get to host politicians and maintain its tax exemption?
*argh* Abortion…!
yep
They’re taking turns. McCain up after Obama.
did he also mention FISA?
He knew this was coming.
“Anyone who tries to deny the moral difficulties and gravity of abortion is not paying attention.”
[grin] You wear Hawaiian robes? COOL!
“I’m pro Roe. Not pro-abortion. I don’t think women make these choices casually. So for me, the goal should be, how do we reduce the number of abortions?”
I LOVE the greying of Obama’s temples…
Helps mitigate the McSame experience argument, while invoking a holy (metaphoric) image.
Slick.
Dugg
Ohhhh — good.
Obama: “We’ve had a President for the last 8 years who is opposed to abortion but abortions haven’t gone down.”
I don’t think they are actually on stage together. Obama first then followed by McCain.
But Cone of Silence also works.
and you’re surprised? That is what this is all about. All the rest is commentary. It was an ambush all along.
Thanks.
Barack is pro-choice but would rather abortions be rare. He’s into prevention, whereas, Catholics and others are not.
40 million abortions VS. 100 Million Dead Iraqis
Good point that.
Beats the holy crap out of me….
Welfare would give a woman the option to keep a child.
I think because it is educational (sometimes theological, even) if it is not advocacy for a candidate.
Obama is handling it fairly well, I didn’t like the late term abortion response though…!
oops, and don’t forget the gays. I guess they didn’t.
Is this a Christainist panderfest?
Interesting answer….women come to their conclusions because of the input of their spouses, pastors….Oh…so they have to “advise” women as to what they should think?
Um. How about women come to their conclusions because of what they think is happening to them as an individual.
What is that lying atop me and my beloved?
Why, it’s the bus Barack just drove over us.
Honestly, I think marriage should be outlawed. It causes too many problems, IMHO. LOL
Warren: “Define marriage.”
Uh oh.
Obama: “I believe a marriage is between a man and a woman.”
Applause.
Feh.
He gets points for saying that “marriage” is a religious issue.
Applause for opposing a Constitutional amendment to define marriage… Small applause that sounded squelched, but applause nonetheless… Wow.
Ding, ding, ding.
Well, shit. Politics and religion should not be mixed legally. Cut the crap out of this bogus event.
Exactly Margot, but right wingers don’t see it that way. They just label it a social program and then run away masturbating to their George Bush photo.
Obama gets applause on favoring domestic partnership rights.
Intersting.
I’ve not yet once had anyone come to me to help them find an answer to that dilemma. Not once.
You are so right.
Yeah, I thought that was surprising.
Will McCain get to ask the definition of ‘pluripotent’ before trying to respond ?
Was that enroute to driving over women needing abortions for mental health reasons, or did Barack have their squished carcasses in his rearview mirror?
The audacity of hate.
Right.
Yes.
Thank you for another round of….
Hey Barack – there are Democrats watching this too!
Weasel-y answer on stem-cell research….
Obama handling the stem cell question very well. Says the pro-research crowd isn’t eagerly destroying embryos.
Good frame.
I have no antacids in the house, and I am regretting it.
There is, however, beer.
Hahahahaha…”does ‘Evil Exist’….?????
Bwahahahahahaaa
Dick?
And scotch.
I’ve got the Cubs game. It’s better for my health.
Considering the audience…! Teddy, I agree to a point about the bus, but, the domestic partnership rights was somewhat of a save for Obama…
Obama gives a thoughtful answer on the existence of evil. He’s read his Augustine.
Yes. It has names—Dick Cheney, David Addington, Karl Rove, Michael Mukasey . . . I could go on.
90% of our country is religious and/or spiritual. We have to remember that as we watch Barack tonight. He’s no different than our Democratic neighbors up the street who go to church every Sunday or at least once a month.
As an Atheist myself, I’m listening to him and not agreeing with some of what Barack is saying, but that is no different than if my religious neighbor up the street was saying the same thing.
Personally, religion should be kept out of politics but unfortunately many in our country think it’s the same thing (morality & legislation).
Holy Shit.
Obama, on the question of who he wouldn’t have nominated for the SCOTUS, names Clarence Thomas.
Gets small applause for it. Wow.
You may be unaware of the genesis of the phrase here.
It is not a Rush Limbaugh-ism.
Wow. “I would not have nominated Clarence Thomas.”
Bravest thing I ever heard Obama say. Kudos.
Wow. All those years at a major research hospital and I never heard the stem cell researchers speak of sadly destroying embryos, either.
In fact, I’ve never heard them use the term “destroying” embryos.
Of course, they’re not pandering to hate preachers, either.
Yes, yes, separate but equal worked so well.
and wine
Obama wouldn’t have nominated Clarence Thomas. Scores big point w/me.
Nor Scalia “good mind, but we disagree.”
Close enough.
I liked his answer to that too.
Beezelbub.
Obama affirms his opposition to Roberts — well played.
If this doesn’t end soon I’m not sure if I’ll survive the evening.
Obama thinks administration branch been getting more power than is balanced, or called for in the Constitution
If they’re going to accept Federal funds, then the churches need to start paying their fair share of the taxes in this country.
Heh, touche…! *g* Consider the audience, Teddy, consider the audience…!
These aren’t biologists. I think it was good to use the inherent good faith on the pro-research crowd.
If this weren’t broadcast, I’d agree. Barack – clever enough to edit the Harvard law review – chose to frame his answer so as to concede the revisionist frame that stem cell research is “destroying” embryos.
Shorter Pastor Rick: “Can churches who get federal funds be forced to hire gays?”
These questions, while tilted towards the Reverend’s concerns, are an order of magnitude better than those from Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson.
Notice that Pastor Rick borrowed on of John McCain’s blue and white checked shirts for the evening?
Dya think.
National audience or global audience?
Slowing down, now.
Question about faith-based initiatives. Boring.
Obama gets applause for education question — saying we need to reward “excellence.”
So, do you think Hillary or Mr Edwards would be doing better?
Oh, just wait. I’m guessing it’ll be harder to handle during the second half.
But, then, we won’t be biting our nails on every answer.
And, all the booze will have kicked in.
You see…Obama is having an intelligent conversation…wait till McGigalo answers the questions….not even an intelligent speechwriter can bail him out…
Oh..but wait…KKKarl..will come to “save the day”…(to the Superman music)…
He will say the same 3 things he’s been saying…hoping that the same 3 people listening….will win him the election. The intellectual gap is glaring….
But, what the F does Diebold care….
The audience is timid to respond until Rick Warren makes some kind of sound or remark. LOL So weird!
Yep.
Huge score for Obama.
Warren asks what rich is. Obama says, “If you’ve got book sales of $25 million…”
Laughs, appluse.
touche
warren should be paying taxes on such an income.
Was that a terrorist high-five?
Oh my god, the money fucking changers are in the temple, Jeebus: “Define rich.”
This isn’t about faith, this is about prosperity. Whether the money they get from the feds for spreading hate, or the money their parishioners send down the pew in the bucket.
Obama answering as to Fed funds for religious-based organizations – works in the phrase “the devil is in the details, but..
The man’s quick on his feet, I’ll give him that…..
These are the most inane questions I’ve ever heard in my life.
And when they pan to the audience, that just *scares* me.
(And I’m a white middle aged woman.)
I’m sure Johnny will have an earpiece in tonight. We’ll have to watch for his hesitation when he’s listening to Karl Rove’s voice. Either that….or his teleprompter will be situated behind Warren’s head. LOL
good thing brain damage is very rarely contagious
Obama defines rich as +250K.
Middle class as
Gets applause on not being able to pay for the Iraq war given the current tax cuts.
Excellent.
Anyone writing down the questions being asked of Obama to compare to the questions McCain will be asked?
It will be interesting if they are same questions.
I think these questions will all sound much better when Mccain gets them :)
Man, that bottom line is scary….Please, no.
Can anyone guess McCain’s answer to the Supreme Court question?
Look for the ear plug or mysterious appendage under his coat a la the battery pack W had in the Kerry “debate.”
It’s Orange County, dear.
I don’t even like to travel through there on the freeway.
Ah, T-Mobile and FreeCreditReport.com just threw a little silver into MSNBC’s collection plate.
just found you, BT, still on the chardonney myself, back to read comments now, and probably will be into the reds (or something stronger) by the time i get back here…
thanks much
You remind me of a friend of ours who spends his whole time picking holes and criticizing, but he never actually does anything.
Why don’t you run? You have all the answers.
William Howard Taft
I think this was pre-arranged. Same questions for both.
Kill, fight, patriotism, God loves me…..You win.
Logic, peace, diplomacy. You lose.
Oh, yeah, when your kids are fried by nukes …maybe you’ll regret the Repub vote…
I surely hope he is not somewhere gettin the questions.
If that earpiece incident during the Bush/Kerry debates happened today, would it be taken more seriously, knowing everything we know about the lying, forging, cheating evil that is the current administration? I wish.
Nooooo!
combining alcohol and “reds” can be fatal!
;)
Can anyone guess McCain’s answer to the Supreme Court question?
I’m thinking he may have *four* answers to that one.
Or four and a half….
Warren and the mega churches are all about prosperity—not about faith. They preach that if you have the right kind of faith you will be prosperous. It will be interesting to see if we have a real deep depression how that works out for them all.
C-Span has a clean broadcast, but have to watch people singing during breaks. C-Span narration during breaks.
I’m sorry my comments aren’t sufficiently respectful to satisfy you.
I’ll go sit in the corner now.
Warren: “As an American, what’s worth dying for?”
Obama: “Obviously, American freedom. American lives, American interest.”
Good.
Well, that is what was stated at the beginning, but it will be interesting to find out if that’s the case. Sometimes the right wingers have a way of playing tricks. I know…shocker!
Point taken, K.
“Will you, as The Blackazoid Preznit, commit troops to end genocide in Darfur — or in Georgia?”
It would be brushed over if McCain was using an earpiece, of course. Now, if Barack Obama was spotted having an earpiece, the KKK would be called out as attack dogs after Barack was put in an enclosed pen with them. The MSM wouldn’t be forgiving either.
As long as the questions that Warren has posed to Obama are applied to McInsane, I think this is an excellent discourse… I would quibble with the framing, but, if it’s applied equally it should be informative… I definitely don’t like all of Obama’s responses by any stretch…
Warren asks Obama what the criteria for going to war is.
Obama says “If we can prevent mass killing or genocide, we should act.”
[applause]
I’ll join you in the corner. I have all kinds of criticisms but no solutions. Guess we’re not invited to the party.
Is it just me, or is Warren really annoying?
148 million orphans. Ya think maybe birth control could help with that? Nahhh….
Pastor Rick is SOoooo concerned about orphans …(but don’t let any GAY families adopt them!)
I’m sorry, but Monday morning quarterbacking irritates the crap out of me.
Nothing personal, you understand.
PeteCo,
Teddy has been doing heavy lifting in this community for a long long time. He is a well respected member and contributer. And smart too.
We may need a bigger corner. I’ll join you.
Good catch.
Beyond annoying. Everything I detest in a person.
Churches are getting federal funds? Why?
And more pointy hats!
hope i’m not being disputatious: I’m grateful for your observations (and your braving direct exposure to Warren and congregants)
Religious persecution….Pastor Rick would like to save the persecution for those who AREN’t religious.
*Ding*
10 minutes to go — McSame is going to have a hard time besting Obama tonight. Obama clearly had the higher bar to overcome, and he’s done very well.
Evening firepups. What awful questions. Ackkk!
No, it’s not you.
Render unto Caesar….
I agree, CTuttle. I hope Warren does ask the same questions because it will be very interesting to hear McCain answer them. Barack is doing a good job so far, but he’s comfortable talking about his views, his faith, and the country as a whole. Johnny spends too much time smooching up to the uber wealthy in this country and doesn’t have a clue what it’s like to be a minority or to struggle. Not even his time as a POW can compare to how some of the poor in our country has had to live for years longer than his time in Vietnam.
Party in the corner!
Teddy’s buying!!!
Why don’t you?? You seem to have all the criticism of other points of view/?
Louis D. Brandeis ?
not just you
and vodka tonic, of course with a twist
Well, back when I was living in NYC we got funds to buy the cots to shelter 12 homeless people every night.
Obama just spoke out against torture and got applause.
Color me surprised.
Cardinal Fang?
So Obama panders to W AIDS inititative. I want to know whether the $15 billion was spent in the designated time frame, and how much difference that made in AIDS in Africa.
Oh, so sorry. Didn’t mean to bring up accountability. /s
I’m a witch — can I join you in the corner?
Rick Warren looks like Chuck Todd’s evil uncle.
I think lots of these questions are okay; The pastor has his biases about what’s important, but Obama’s actually managed to cover lots of issues.
I’ll bring the chili and pie!
Winston Churchill drank like a fish, but I don’t see Winston drinking with Bush you had to be smart, have an opinion, and be able to back it up in Parliment with the opposition yelling at you to impress him.
Only speeching to preselected for loyalty audiences would have stuck Winston as well…weak.
I’ll buy too. Love being isolated.
He would have done better if he hadn’t won the coin toss too. I bet McCain is nervous, especially if he can’t hear how Barack is answering these questions. I think the comparison is going to be huge and will ring loudly to those on the fence about McCain.
If McCain comes across the same as Barack tonight in his answers, then I think we can safely assume that he either has an earpiece or Karl Rove is standing off stage mouthing to him what to say. LOL
I can’t help but be incredibly impressed with Obama’s countenance. He’s just a natural.
‘ere!
can I come too? Stingers for me please.
Sounds like the corner is becoming the mainstream, but perhaps that’s only me.
Okay, maybe it’s just cynical old me…..but whenever I hear a preacher/pastor/shill rail against children and prostitution etc. (the last two questions) my perv-dar goes off. Anyone else? Jim Baker/Jimmy Swaggart moment in the future? Anyone?
Why, thank you. And back-atcha, lady!
Ooh, ooh, I totally agree with you.
This next hour may more important than McCain thinks.
(sorry for that.)
What are stingers?
Obama gets applause and whistles(!) for answer on why he wants to be preznit.
Obama says the one thing he wants to say, that’s politically difficult, is that solving energy won’t be easy and we all have to be involved.
“If we pretend that there’s no sacrifice involved, we’re kidding ourselves. We should be able to make sacrifices for the next generation.”
Big applause!
Obama seems to have a lot of fans in the audience.
Obama gets a standing ovation for his close.
Brandy and Creme de Menthe. I add a touch of Creme de Cacao just for fun—my own version.
I’ll bring chocolate to the party. I always do.
Excellent!
It’s because he believes what he says and his beliefs aren’t scary if you ask me, Blue Texan. Johnny on the other hand has been swept up in the right wing madness and any rationality he had years ago is now gone. He has himself to blame. No way in hell would I change myself in a negative way to win anything. McCain did, though. Barack is Barack and though I don’t agree with 100% of what he says and believes, I don’t feel he’s going to be detrimental to our country and our well being.
Here comes McSame.
Big applause.
FUCK mcSame
I salute Teddy for the good work he does here
If he wanted to run for public office and I had a vote in that election, I would be pleased to support him
What’s going on in that corner over there? Can I come? Room for a magic bed?
Awesome applause for Obama… I wonder if McInsane will have the same exit applause…
Cooool as a cucumber
Uh-Oh, was that applause greater than Obama’s?! I missed the beginning….
can I come too? Stingers for me please.
Certainly! I can be designated driver….
ummm, Teddy, there seems to be a party coming your way….
Hey real Christians think Jesus would have a problem with torture after being crucified.
Which raises the question just what kind of church do Bush and Darth belong to, the speech no truth to Power/Evil kind of Church so long as you Donate Large Suburban Church?
Barack needs to jingle his keys NOW.
Oh, Gawd… Now I have to hear that vile, whining voice. McSame’s voice is almost as repellent as Lieberman’s…
A rancid little affair all around.
When is the Atheist Forum?! I volunteer to host. Drinks on me for all firepups.
McTeleprompter comes to the stage when the audience is applauding Barack Obama. Who wants to bet that moment will be part of his next ad but Barack will be taken out of the picture? Wouldn’t surprise me. We bloggers will be on it in a flash, though! Ha ha, Johnny.
Except for LGBT people or pregnant women with mental health reasons for abortion. But hey – who cares about them when there’s a candidate to be worshipped? Writing off one-seventh of the population is just a noble act – right?
It’s a function of living on the edge. Discover a cool club, and suddenly everyone wants to get in. Time to move on to another corner, I guess….
(Verizon again. Nice of them to give the warmaker GE money to show us their captive nominees)
Thank you so much for gathering this thread. It really adds a great dimension. I think the audience liked him; I did not hear any major slip, and parts of what he said were really clever and sounded relaxed, at ease. Guess that exotic vacation helped.
This corner has more room for magic beds than you can possible imagine!
I want to see a bumper sticker with the red circle and slash through it over the words “My Friends”.
umm…can pagans come?
(if so, may I have a hefeweitzen?)
oOo McCain is up
Oh, Gawd… Now I have to hear that vile, whining voice. McSame’s voice is almost as repellent as Lieberman’s…
I’m thinking Olympics – maybe.
Nah, glutton for punishment here.
Plus, I sense some fine snark opportunities coming in 5, 4, 3, 2, …..
Welcome Tex. Glad you are doing well.
I’ve been spending some time around the campaign offices here in Denver, and I’ve got to say that the difference between the honest enthusiasm I see there and the cynicism I see around here is quite jarring.
Or maybe all those people are just a bunch of naive dupes.
yes, but you get to mock him to your heart’s content. Much more fun than worrying about what your guy is going to say.
he admits he tried to cheat
I thought Graham was headed to Georgia… Why’s he in attendance?
look for a mysterious hump under the back of his jacket
Betrayus
McCain immediately acknowledges that he tried to cheat, and hear Obama’s answers.
Petraeus is his first choice for who he listens to. More war!
McCain’s main adviser?
A war guy.
Surprise!!
McCain’s idea of a great leader is General Betrayus. The Surge Is Working.
“causes greater than ourselves”
Meg Whitman!!!!!
What?!?!?!?!?
He just lost
New LiveBlog Thread!
The Obama-McCain Faith Smackdown, Part II.
Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay!
Mommy of tax cheats everywhere!
and Meg Whitman.
On account of she’s made one hell of a profit!!
Pagans are the *most* attractive to atheists :)
crap. i don’t care for the man, but i’m not wishing him further metastases.
One General, a wounded veteran, and a CEO of eBay. Looks like we’ll be fighting wars and selling stuff on the toobz.
Perhaps your time is better spent at the campaign offices than here then.
I don’t recall this “greatest moral failure” question of Obama.
greatest moral failure
his first marriage
911 911 911
dig that hole a little deeper, JohnnyMac!
ooh, brings up first marriage.
Go off-script Rick! – follow-up is needed, NOW!!
Canned speech, my friends.
Your greatest moral failing is being a Republican.
And No, you are not my friend.
um…are you on facebook, by any chance?
;)
“My greatest morel failure, my first marriage”…Causes greater than our self interest….third time he said that in five minutes.
Watch him repeat whatever gets applause. He’s an applause whore.
lol
It appears there is a new post: but McCain said, “A little pander here, if you will….”
A little pandering?
Yes, he talked about the early years, drugs, drinking.
What we don’t want More of the Same in Iraq thats the problem. Petraeus has had years to accomplish something and has failed. Ask the General how he plans to pay for the war.
“Serve a cause greater than your self interest” Okay, that’s our drinking cue. Four times in five minutes.
Shots all around.
playing up his maverickity
McCain’s first moral failure…..dumping my injured wife for the rodeo queen heiress…
Oh.. why not?
Now I remember why I stopped coming here in the first place; It’s cliquey and spiteful.
Reagan is the other cue. “He won the cold war”
Apparently, McCain’s understanding of history is what we thought it was.
911 911 911
Yes, ma’am, what is your emergency?
Lordy
he’s prescient about the Beirut bombing
Blah blah blah
Well, I think he’ll be detrimental to our country, but I’m definitely voting for him, because the personification of evil would be an unmitigated disaster.
Drill now and drill here.
Smile.
Why do people clap for drilling for oil here?
Somebody told me the party was in the corner; but the room I was ushered into is round. I’ll keep looking along the wall here…..
McCain has zero clue about anything in the bible…..Oh yeah…”off shore drilling”.
This man is a nutcase.
Hi y’all. Really? Don’t you think the tv star “debate” moderators’ questions are much more inane? And nobody’s asked about boxers or briefs./s
carry on upstairs
Now he’s giving his stump speech, not answering the question.
My friends # 10
I’m drunk now….
They believe the lie.
Now that you recollection has been refreshed, don’t let yer butt get bruised by the door.
no disageement with your choice.
that reminds me – somewhere i read this today….

Notice how he brings up his admiral father when it works for him. But not when he wants to appear like a regular joe.
An excellent question. Does anyone know the answer? How can they do this so blatantly? Is it because Warren is claiming non-partisan status?
Oh, and I forgot to add “It took a lot of prayer”
I’m sure those Gitmo guys can relate…
Petraeus, check
Terra, check
offshore drilling, check
POW, check
oh, and prayer, a lot of prayer, check
canned crap
Clapping for oil is like clapping for Tinkerbell.
Then again, these parishioners fit their religion around their biases, which is why they are really digging McPain’s folksy bullshit, and are bored stiff by a real attempt to wrestle with moral issues.
Actually, I am a Brit, well ex-Brit, became a citizen when Bush became Pres. so I could vote against him. I respectfully disagree, Winston only spoke to people that thought he was fab and if he didn’t well they were unBritish (English actually…..Scotland, Ireland and Wales were just an extension). Winston told the miners in Wales, when they bombs were dropping, that if they did not go down the mines he would shoot them, not in any history books about he man. His speeches were great, he was a Tory thru and thru and believe me Winston would have drank with anyone, however, he was lucky enough to be born in the upper classes so that is who he drank with. Winston was conservative, make no mistake about it and was an Edmund Burke conservative. I am not trying to aleniate anyone here or myself. I am a long time lurker and know my limitations, you are all smarter than I so I will read and aborb. I hope that you will understand that I supported Obama, will vote for Obama, but as an immigrant who loves America, probably thru rose coloured glasses, that he should speak to Jerry Falwell…….oooops Rick Warren they way he spoke on the campaign trail.
I do. Don’t recall his exact answer, may have been the selfishness of youth. He discussed drinking & drug use during his teens.
McCain sounds so stiff. Either his responses are rehearsed, or he simply cannot deviate from incorporating 5 redundant points.
oh yes, i read that too. *g
Oh, no, grandpa’s on a roll about Vietnam.
You know, McCain is bragging up his POW experience, I cannot believe he does this. He is a man of HONOR
Cirkey off to the next thread
combining alcohol and “reds” can be fatal!
thanks for the love, doc, but the brandy is still in the cupboard and i’ve not even joined BT in the red wines…
i promise i’ll survive the second half…
Question about faith calls for another POW story.
This is mind numbing.

“I’ll go sit in the corner now.”
may i join you?
I am just listening to McSame that humans are at point of conception. Why is Obama there. These are people with views that cannot be changed no matter how fab they think Obama is. Now he is on to gay marriage. God help us.
McCain: “Are we going to get back to the issue of Supreme Court Justices?”
Um, it hasn’t come up yet, John.
I think he just revealed that he’s been prepped on the questions before hand.
John McCain is completely mad!
I just googled my username/FDL, and I’ve been posting here since 2006. Take a look.

McSame doesn;t think that anyone should be allowed to take American lives, he didnt mention Katrina, only a
We don’t just need to fight wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to fight more wars–all over the world. Endless war! More, more, more!
This is nauseating as I knew it would be. The concept of this so called sermon/debate is wrong, and Obama by agreeing to this atrocity has turned me off for the final time. I’ll still vote for him, but I am caring less and less about the whole miserable thing. Our country is fricking doomed, “my friends.”
Theocracy America……………..here we come. John (Adulterer here we come)
Oh, God. Whoever said above that he would call out four and half Supremes was right! Drinks on me!
McSame is very comfortable with his base. I wonder if he knows that we are all watching. Maybe he thinks we DFH are getting high and not watching. I don’t like Rick Warren.
Whoa! Verrrry interesting. ARe there some ringers in the audience?
Or maybe – there’s hope?
”Choie and competition, home schooling, charter schools, vouchers, it works!!”
He’s out pandered even W. Amazing.
All of his answers are code words. *Applause*!!!!
I hate the way he licks his lips like a lizard.
Just another thing I can’t live with for four more years….
aggyp, don’t go away… we need to hear more
”my friends”
So, I guess he does NOT know we are in the audience
I do wonder why McSame doesn’t mention that Georgia started the war and tat his “campaign adivisors took nearly a cool Million in fees). I don’t think I have hate in my heart, and some bloggers that I love can say things that make me sqirm, but I have to tell you, listening to this crap with such a look of, “hey, you know what I am talking about” this is a man full of hate for the entire human race. It is so sad to me
Thanks.
I guess when McSame says that “America’s best days are ahead of us” he means that we will be in perpetual war so we can “have a great life and put our country first” I don’t want to put my country, before the people in in first, isnt’t that what makes the country.
McSame just said that our county was founded on Judeo Christian principles first, actually that is not true, but I guess it it was sells to the Saddleback Church. I know I have friends who live in Orange County and I live in San Diego where the Republican god rules and all that that entails!
Well, as a lurker, this will be my last block. I rather liked the drunken blog. It allowed me to comment, even thou I was’t drunk, just gave me libery since you are all so smart and I learn so much. It’s been swell. Thanks.
Come out of that corner, Teddy! Come right quick! I need you here. As do many Firepups.
Many Firepups know that I have thought long and hard for decades about the problems of democracy. I’m joining Teddy Partridge and eCAHNonomics now in the corner, and honoured to be in such company.
Anyone with pretensions to logical and rhetorical sophistication knows that one must first clearly frame a problem before deigning to adduce solutions. Alas, there is altogether too much insert-foot-in-mouth-before-thinking.
With any due respect, I have not been overwhelmed with your contributions to this. Oh yeah, your activism, But activism is often but mischief unless informed by considered thought.
