Southern Dragon -

Mr CBL is alluding to an encounter I had yesterday with a big time county republican mover and shaker who happens to be Vietnam Veteran

I pissed the guy off when he happened to hear me remark to another guest that McCain had voted against GI Bill and when he asked me about it I let him know the local congr. (who happens to represent Ft Hood) had done same - and that the their execrable voting record on active and veteran benefits could be verified online

he picked up his cell and had some minion verify - dfh hilarity ensued - we actually heard “don’t give a good GD where he is, get him on the phone !”

then there was lots of rhetorical questioning and swearing

he got back to me and asked for contact info on Dem in cong race which I gladly turned over - mentioning of course our guy would be at a distinct disadvantage what with the incumbent’s money machine and all

his parting shot “well, we’re gonna retire that bastard!”

teehee - pissin’ ‘em off one gooper at a time

couldn’t find anything in the Austin paper about the Ft Hood deaths - but anecdotal googling shows there’s a veritable epidemic at installations here and abroad -

my first WAG - to keep the redeployments coming, many of our soldiers and marines are on a regimen of some powerful drugs, and I’m not talking Prozac either - now combine those with some heavy drinking when leave allows. This was the cause of death for 2 of the 3 Central Texan soldiers who died in June - just sayin’

I worked on a real cattle ranch in Oregon for a summer. Never worked so hard or ate so much in my life. In those days Phelps’ breakfast was an appetizer.

I certainly can’t argue with that. Just in my little part of the world I can’t help but notice the meanness and lack of empathy of those I encounter. My biggest complaint about Reagan is his “every man for himself” philosophy. We’ve now got a society filled with self-absorbed people whose biggest concern is appearing richer than their neighbors. A random act of kindness is beyond the understanding of these people.

Before breakfast, I’m sure he swims about two miles or so. You know, just to get the blood pumping in the morning.

Once upon a time, I was a swimmer, and two-a-day workouts definitely improved my appetite. Today, let’s just say I could do with a little more exercise in the pool.

You may be right about the army needing a makeover but I think that the military is reflective of the larger society which also needs a extreme makeover
