Even if, especially if, Cindy is likely to get less than 20% of the vote in that district … let’s do all we can to make sure the effort is considered significant, and that her vote total was not held back by any lack of funds or volunteer effort.

The narrative should be (even if you really feel otherwise), “yes we like Nancy personally and think it’s great that a woman is the speaker, but why is she so weak on violations of the Constitution? The charitable explanation is that she is being blackmailed by the Republicans. Even if there wasn’t a supermajority assured in advance for a successful impeachment, ‘taking it off the table’ after a big victory was an absolute disaster that has held Democrats back. Even if we didn’t go all the way with it, impeachment needed to be there as a threat, as something to be investigated and documented. And why not impeach Gonzales and Mukasey and Cheney first, that’s how she should have led us.”

FWIW, if Cindy Sheehan were to replace Nancy Pelosi as a member of the House of Representatives, she would go in as a back bench independent, most likely caucusing with the Dems.

Most likely Steny Hoyer would then be the next Speaker of the House.

let’s start a Blue America page for Cindy Sheehan…Pelosi must go!!

I’ve known Cindy Sheehan for quite some time. I have also edited some of her earlier writings for her. I can aver that she deals emotionally, not rationally. More, she has NO experience in parliamentary affairs. How can you expect Cindy Sheehan to run or to lead the US House of Representatives?

If he had the reagents for… [turning sodium cynanide into a gas], you can bet that would have been all over the news 24/7.

Vinegar will do in a pinch. Preferred: Sulfuric acid (H2SO4); HCL will do as well.

She can’t even bring herself to type the name of the party correctly after he has been shot and killed:

The Arkansas Democrat Party chairman was shot today at his office in a horrible attack

There is no indication of his political affiliations, his ideology, or his motives for singling out the Democrat Party chairman.

Unhinged indeed

Only slightly OT: last night I went to see an incredible film that all pups should seek out - The Visitor. It’s about a lonely college professor in CT who returns to his apartment in NYC to find two “squatters” - a woman from Senegal and her boyfriend from Syria. Both are undocumented.

Through a quirk of fate, the boyfriend is arrested by the NY police [purportedly jumping a turnstile], and when it’s discovered he’s illegal, he’s thrown in a detention center.

There’s no graphic violence or other melodramatic elements — just a plain, unvarnished picture of the shame this nation has become in pursuit of its “War on Terror” [sic].

The film’s been out for a while — it was running in DC before we left in May, and has just arrived on Maui. Please, seek it out & support it, and learn from its gentle wisdom.

Norske at 25, I’d like to copy in what I was presenting in another blog (TWN) about going after hoyer, I’m still burning with the need to get an organized response to Pachacutec’s post of 7-19-08 9:49 am on the same topic. Sorry, I’m good with words and human beings and getting better but these linky-things and code stuff baffle me.

In this long comment, I was responding to folks responding to my previous comments on the New Caucasus War. we get to Hoyer at the end. More background on my organizing ideas in my earlier post at the same site.

As I said there: Russia did have troops positioned and tactical plans at the ready, no doubt, as we now learn — since nobody in the Western press sphere including the netroots got alerted to the local news of increasing tensions and mutual threats and threatening actions that has apparently been going on since the spring.

Which makes Georgia’s aggression even more incredibly stupid. Oh yes, South Ossetia is part of the traditional modern-era borders of Georgia, yet Georgian authority has not run there since about 1994 … and they knew there were Russian troops on that border within their former traditional territory because it was part of a deal that THEY SIGNED OFF ON to get out from under the Russians beating their butts in the previous war OF SECESSION (of these two fragments of traditional Georgia) a dozen years ago after the break-up of the Soviet Union.

Plus the Georgians have not been above treating the Ossetians like white Americans have been known to treat native Americans and blacks …

So this is not at all like Budapest in ‘56, nor Prague in ‘68. The McCain camp and the neoconservative establishment in Washington and its other center of power, the corporate media suites of New York, absolutely needs to re-establish the Cold War paradigm, that’s their only path to power.

So it is time for us to shake off the cynicism and despair I understand all too well, the Constitution is gone, corporate media is totally corrupt and unaccountable and inimical to a healthy world future for our children … we may be far too late.

So that’s exactly why we have to fight like hell.

The empire is dead, Bush has killed its future by over-extending a fragile (and gold-plated, corrupt) military establishment into the meat grinder of Iraq, throwing money at contractors while his buddies in the oil industry quadrupled the price of oil. Empires don’t survive massive debts to their possible rivals, the fantasy of an eternal American global military hegemony will burn us up one way or another within 20 years. My beautiful children will end up as sharecropper peasants to the Chinese overlords in a desert world, or some even more gruesome fate. This empire is already toast, the media have made Americans stupid enough that 50 to 70% of the population has no idea.

Yet 30 to 50% of us do have an inkling of understanding. Ideally a handsome centrist Democratic President would play along with the rhetoric just enough to get elected, and then use the nuclear shield and the urgency of the climate crisis/dollar crisis/petroleum economy crisis to negotiate our way back to the best interpretation of what we had once upon a time, a foreign policy talked of cooperation and building structures of mutual interest in greater peace and prosperity for all the world.

But that fantasy is pretty idealistic too, which is why I am seeking the hard-core for a relatively militant organization which will do what no one else is really doing: being a PRIMARILY POLITICAL organization (though with an associated 501(c)3 for educational efforts) to make the case that America needs a non-imperial foreign policy RIGHT NOW before we kill ourselves with our various hot gas emissions. We have to be ready to work within the Democratic Party and become cadres of peace in their establishment, while others are working with/building alternative ballot lines, so that centrist Democratic imperialists like Hoyer, Bayh, Feinstein and so many more can be opposed both in the primaries and in the general election. My forte is more slogan-making and theater than lobbying, I want 25 people in each Congressional district make it their primary purpose to sell two memes in the media: That D. House candidates must be asked publicly about choosing better leaders than Pelosi and Hoyer, whom we the grassroots reject; And that it’s time to change the ending of the national anthem, since we are now in fact the “land of the surveilled and the home of the fearful.”

We either un-elect these clowns or we change their behavior significantly. Or we die trying. Along the way we’ll have to reform the corporate media and re-structure our economy. Let’s get going.
