That’s the question cartwrightdale asks in this terrific spec spot he created. He writes,
The idea of a continuation of Bush policies into a third term should be scary, not playful. Furthermore, I think it’s important to emphasize that McCain has been "doubling down" on Bush’s policies at the same time the rest of the nation (and world) has been abandoning them.
Such a good, simple point. As the Bush presidency collapsed, McSame the Maverick’s support for it increased. Even after it was clear Iraq was a massive clusterfuck. Even after Katrina. Even now.
I hope the Obama campaign takes note.

Awesome video.
Not really much of a ”maverick” after all.
Although the 2008 percentage is accurate, McCain has only voted what, once? If I was an Arizonan, I’d be pissed at the complete lack of representation the state is getting. Be nice if McCain not only loses in November but gets his ass handed to him in his next Senate bid.
OT: According to Wikipedia, McCain’s net worth is $40.4 million, that isn’t counting Cindy’s assets, which are in her name. More proof that John is just an average American.
The new Obama ad targeting Indiana is worth seeing.
“How can John McCain fix the economy when he doesn’t think it’s broken?”
McCain’s positions are completely internally consistent on the simple hypothesis that he will say/do whatever he thnks it takes to be prez.
McSame is getting rather Mavrickety.
Well, McSame knows he’ll have full support from his ad agency, the AP (Assorted Pastries) and other Conglomerate Media:
“Judge lets Detroit mayor go to Democrat convention”
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..5yNWxH2ocA
That’s the headline I saw today on Yahoo’s frontpage. Even William F. Buckley refused to use the “Democrat Party” slur because of the childish nature of it and the improper grammar, but now we have it in AP headlines. They’ve been trying to make it a normal part of our discourse in the last few years by repeating it incessantly. We pushed back when Shrub was using it and he stopped for a while, but I’ve noticed recently he’s started again. McSame uses it all the time.
Gotta push back on this stuff or they steamroller it over the general public.
Wow. Just wow. Talk about laying out the mendacity of McCain in black and white.
Hey, Blue Texan, great post!!
I guess if the Obama campaign doesn’t take note, they may not survive, and they would deserve not to, because that truly is the danger. I hope they get a lot smarter and sleeker fast. Perhaps they’re waiting until the convention and after.
I actually think Obama’s ads have been very good thus far. But I agree with cartwrightdale that he needs to hit harder.
I am convinced that the underlying factor in McCain’s reckless ambition is to outshine his admiral daddy and granddaddy. Like Dubya, he never really wanted to be president, it’s just that old oedipal thing prodding him along.
Sounds like an hypothesis that is easily defensible.
Ratfood, I am an Arizonan and, trust me, I welcome him not going to Senate sessions or voting. Take a look at his voting record and policies, and you’ll know why.
I like the Indiana ad. Very smart; you don’t need to define the other guy if you let him define himself.
Want more of the same? Vote John McCain.
As punaise says, McThirdterm.
Sorry for the early OT, but this was in my newspaper this morning:
How ya’ doin’ Chuck Schumer?
Love the video! Reposted on my blog; we need to get this thing seen.
Good point. Same reason no one is too concerned if Bush has spent one of his eight years on vacation. My current senators are Durbin and Obama. The latter has taken a lot of time off, I’m hoping we’ll have a vacancy in that seat come January.
I think it doesn’t hurt to bring out how this isn’t the same John McCain from 8 years ago — this spot does that without hitting you over the head with it. Combine this with McGoo’s grasp of 21st century geography and you have a winner.
The new Obama ad targeting Indiana is worth seeing.
From your link:
“Indiana gets its own anti-McCain ad”
As it should be. heh.
(all right – so it’s needed because the R’s around here are a special kind of stupid, but the special attention is still nice)
“Do You Support Bush Today More Than You Did Four Years Ago?”
No.
And I don’t support him any more than I did eight years ago either
I also don’t support him any less.
Since I’ve never supported Bush in any way, shape or form, it’s hard to go below zero on that scale.
The VO is well done as well. It’s calm, collected, conversational.
Top notch.
Aravosis, with the quote of the day, in response to the news that troops donate 6:1 to Obama over McWain:
I don’t know if your intention was for “McGoo” to be analogous to the befuddled Mr. Magoo but if so, I like it.
Kind of surprising to find an anti-McCain ad at the Washington Times site.
Bush per se is not what Obama needs to push back against. No. It is Bush Republicans. That seems to me a true and wise distinction (not wise because I said so, god knows).
Way too easy to posit that Bush is about to be history and is therefore irrelevant (to the extent someone who seems radically, weirdly about the business of eviscerating every good thing about the United States is irrelevant).
What is relevant is “Bush Republicans,” of which McSame is the current standard bearer. Forget neocon language. Doesn’t resonate with much of the population. Essential to hammer home the concept of Bush Republicans.
For starters, that definition allows those who are Republicans/conservatives in the former comparatively decent context can take a step apart from this administration’s madness. “I am not a Bush Republican!”
Secondly, as I noted earlier here, somewhere, McSame is the consummate Bush Republican. If you love war, vote McSame. If you think staggering, unpayable national debt is a terrific concept, vote McSame. If you don’t mind that we are owned by China, vote McSame. If you believe unilateral, unprovoked invasion of another country is good policy, vote McSame. If you are comfortable with the growing perception that the United States is a war-mongering bully that mouths freedom and democracy platitudes even as it tramples human rights in and out of the country, vote McSame. Etc.
I don’t recall anyone apart from the odd politician outside the U.S. ever being on board with Bush on any matter ever.
Thanks for the video, BT. Is there any way to get that on TV? I think it would be very effective, although I would add “John McCain does” at the very end of the voiceover.
Oh, yeah, one more thing. If you’re shlogging around in hip-waders as the glaciers melt but scoff at the concept of climate change, vote McSame.
But McCain says countries don’t invade other countries in the 21st century.
Maybe that means in fifty years or so when Republicans enter the 21st century they won’t invade other countries either.
Good one. Fixed it up for you. *g*
All it takes is money.
see the Mc3rdterm website for embossed campaign regalia such as buggy whips and semaphore flags.
Thanks, guess my estimate was too conservative.
Since I’ve never supported Bush in any way, shape or form, it’s hard to go below zero on that scale.
doesn’t ‘Actively Loathe’ qualify as less than zero on a “Support” scale?
And that that seat is filled by someone who really wants to be our Senator.
Alternativly:
“Had you any idea just how bad a President George Bush would prove?”
LOL. Thanks . . . and didja notice the spats?
Yes, that occurred to me, too. I think they were criticizing it because the quote was 7 mos old and mentioned it because earlier they had been wondering why no ads there earlier.
David’s upstairs.
I am one of the Americans who NEVER supported or trusted anything this idiot blabbered. Could never bring myself to even hear him speak, or watch him speak, on the very rare occasion that I accidently landed on Bush in the media, was immediate and complete ugliness pouring off him. His repugnence, arrogance, lack of communication skills, and beady eyes, pulled together with his cocky “I am King” egomaniac posture, and unbelievably tasteless, outlandish arrogant saunter in 2004, makes me very grateful I do not own a gun, shooting every tv I own would have given me relief that turning the channel could not. I always found it quite difficult to shake off the “evil” cloud that he provoked. And as a foot note, a man who speaks out the side of his mouth (Cheney) is a man never to trust. The only thing left to do, is try to instill in my own children that integrity, respect for law, and treating others regardless of their economic value as worthy individuals. I dare say, the example exhibited to this nation, the world, and most importantly our children is beyond comprehension, in a nut shell “evil”.
Great video. How could Obama not win by a landslide?
my favorite is the watch fob.
