Rush Limbaugh, yesterday:
Ladies and gentleman, my theory that I just explained to you about why — you know, what could have John Edwards’ motivations been to have the affair with Rielle Hunter, given his wife is smarter than he is and probably nagging him a lot about doing this, and he found somebody that did something with her mouth other than talk.
Ah, the classic right-wing version of ideal womanhood. If your wife is too smart and too mouthy, go find yourself one who isn’t, one who’s mostly good for sex. Because, ya know, that’s what men really care about when it comes to women. That, and whether they plaster on the makeup like a trollop.
This may explain why Limbaugh is now divorced for the third time and taking little Viagra trips to the Dominican Republic.
It also may explain why the Republican brand is not particularly popular with women voters these days.

We always knew they felt that way but to hear one of them actually articulate it is infuriating.
With Rush’s record he shouldn’t be dispensing marital advice.
Is it marital or extramarital advice?
Infuriating indeed. It’s been clear for many years that the wingnuts feel this way about women. So many issues should have been framed in such a way as to bring this out by the Dems but they didn’t. Too bad.
We might have made some progress.
I have a sister who is a Republican. In the early ’90s, she was part of the first wave of Hillary haters. She had a strong dislike of Theresa Heinz Kerry and Elizabeth Edwards. I haven’t heard her express a negative opinion of Michelle Obama yet but I’m confident she has one, at this point I avoid discussing politics with her. Anyway, whenever she criticized any of those women, the subtext was always clear, they were too smart, too opinionated, too outspoken, etc..
What happened to the family values?
Did I wake up just now to the 1950’s?
Or, should I check out what my husband put in this coffee?
Why didn’t Rush like his mommy?
and of course he blathered the same about Mesdames Vitter, Craig, Fossela and Haggard, right ?
The men on the right feel that women are just here to be used but the women on the right really hate. It’s amazing to me that someone can’t be glad for another woman to do well but they don’t.
I’m afraid that particular strawman has taken such a beating that it’s stuffing is strewn throughout airport restrooms across the country.
It depends on whose family you value.
It’s okay to be successful if they’re Republican but they have to stand by their man with their mouths shut.
He liked her so much he had her stuffed and props her in a rocker by the window.
Somebody, please tell me. Isn’t there a rule about not saying things on the air that incite riots and is hate-filled?
But what will I tell the CHILDREN?? Oh my! (imagine small fainting spell here)
lol!
There is that resemblance, I must agree
The rule is CYA.
republican woudn’t have a platform to run on then.
Maybe he should CHM (cover his mouth).
Tell them they still have the lion and the tin-man, although I heard a rumor that the lion might be required to alert authorities if he plans to move.
wow. just wow.
do i have this right? smart women nag and not smart women give blow jobs?
i’m surprised that any men listen to this crap – let alone any women.
I was listening to Rush yesterday (don’t ask) and he also refered to the Chinese at the Olympics as “all looking alike” and “mass produced humans”.
This was during his screed about ABC “chickifying” the Olympic coverage.
In Rush’s case, CYA would include his mouth (in addition to the rest of his head). Unfortunately, we can still hear him.
What happened to Vicki Iseman?
And, that would be a bad thing?
Digg It Dave
I expect Limbaugh’s trips to the Dominican Republic have had more to do with getting a rise out of what ‘made in america’ fascism could be than anything else made possible for him there.
What would Freud say about the ubiquitous, fat, brown cigar Rush always seem to have stuffed in his mouth?
Small hands? Small feet? Small ….? (hint: “Ego” is not the correct answer).
Why is that man sitting on his head?
Outstanding !!
LOL
“plaster on makeup like a trollop”??? I hope that’s a reference to what that sexist jerk McCain says to Cindy. I hope it’s not a demonizing of the woman Edwards had sex with. Cause right after the wife is blamed for using her mouth for, you know, talking, rather than BJs, the other woman is demonized. Here’s a thought, how about no demonization of either “the wife” or of “the other woman” or of the man for that matter. Other people’s sex lives is not my business.
thanks david
rush’s comment–common theme there amongst republicans.
applies at work, at home, and sex.
lack of commitment to an oath, lack of responsibility, let all of the ‘hirelings/wives’ do all of the work.
and when you violate these things of integrity–it’s someone else’s fault.
kinda weird that he elevated a woman above ‘the man’ when he said elizabeth is smarter.
Yes, and in the larger picture this surely explains why, as noted on The Raw Story this am, a recent spew of McCain ads about Obama feature white women. More sex “objectification.” With Obama leading among women, including white women, why not create a little household “tension” pitting the ever uptight white man (a lot of us, anyway) against his fears of a black planet (h/t to Public Enemy). Make sure the uptight types vote Republican, and don’t waver.
Limbaugh I believe does not in any sense feel he has to appeal to women except through their men, men who will gladly tell them what to think. Those with brains are not to be trusted.
Oh, and I’ve been divorced three times but I’m hardly a misogynist.
Oh, you mean he has a little tiny mind? :)
Yeah, he’s clearly overcompensating, in addition to be overcompensated.
Morning Jayt. Um, I think that’s a misnomer.
But, I think in his case, because of the actions of his mouth, I’d bet you’re right. Overcompensation thingy.
We have the same time stamp, but, you’re first, so I owe you a soda.
I remember when I was growing up in the ’40s women would say “I don’t vote. My husband takes care of that”. There must have been something wrong with me because even back then it made me grind my teeth. I can’t imagine feeling that way.
you caught that too? heh.
why rusher, you’re terrified of us. step away from the mike, sir. keep yer hands where we can see them. dummy! hahahahahahahahAHAH!
Diet Pepsi, please. I try to help out small businesses (such as Pepsico).
cough, ahem. *adjusts petticoats and hoop skirt*
I made the mistake here of saying “coke”, but only once. Another benefit of being a Laker, you get edumicated about politically correct stuff.
When my dad found out that my mom voted for Kennedy in ‘60 he reportedly told her, “If I had known you were going to that, I’d have tied you up and left you at home.”
Dad was a good guy, he wouldn’t really have done it, he was just irritated that she had effectively canceled his vote for Nixon.
Oh, you mean he has a little tiny mind? :)
Umm, yeah – that’s it.
No matter *which* head he thinks with….
I think we have to know what he said about former Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth’s admitted affair(s) to fully understand the theory. If I’ve got it right, Mr. Chenowith would have been smart and loquacious.
No, it was a reference to the ‘c word’ story.
Speaking of -isms…..
Mom, Dad, I hope I didn’t dent the car, but we did have some fun, sorta. And I did get in before curfew.
http://firedoglake.com/2008/08…..fight-for/
i wasn’t comfortable with the “That, and whether they plaster on the makeup like a trollop.” either – but i think dave was describing rush’s views, not his own.
Thank you David for a post where, with maybe one exception, we are all in complete agreement.
(((David)))
I’m guessing you actually like intelligent women?
In Rush’s case, it is ex-marital advice.
Yeah, David,
That gratuitous ‘plaster on the makeup’ remark makes us like them.
Women do what they have to do in a men’s world. It’s hardly fair to criticise them by second guessing some of the ways they try to appear pleasing to us. Be a woman for a few minutes and how sure would you be of your approach to the makeup thing. You might like to think of yourself as miss natural but you don’t know what position you would find yourself in and how you would adapt.
Joel
pfft… a pig so repulsive that even caribbean whores wouldn’t take him on.
OT – Steve Clemons, over at HuffPo, saying that Bayh’s shot at the V.P. slot is at least 50-50.
ugh, I coulda gone all day without hearing that.

There is some speculation that having Warner give the keynote suggests that Kaine will be VP, the 1-2 punch that will tip Virginia.
Good Morning and Good Post David.
You must feel as if you’re running the gauntlet, or tiptoeing by, shoes in hand.
We’re not that dangerous, honest… usually.
rush is a waste of bandwidth, but he must be dealt with, somehow. and mccaint? for prez?? seriously??? with his track record???? um, moral stature and fortitude????? language and treatment of wimmen??????
*grasps desperately for fainting couch*
brain bleach in aisle 57, stat!
Also read that VP night has a military theme – some think that suggests Wes Clark.
stop picking on caribbean whores, will you, please. seriously.

ROFL!!!!
707!!!
ROFL!!!
Well, the WaPo0 speculation is exactly the opposite; that by having Warner keynote on Tuesday means it would make no sense to have back-to-back nights dominated by Virginia Governors.
i hope that was yer own.
have you checked back upstairs recently? (linkie up at 49 this thread)
Kaine? a little bit smaller “ugh” from me, I guess.
Obama needs an war-dog to fight off the McCrazy crap, preferably with enough personality and clout to ramrod legislation through Congress…
Bayh’s Senatorial seat, here in red Indiana, would be hard to recapture for a Dem. (I really oughta check the local rules for w/n the (Repub) governor would have to appoint a D to replace Bayh, or whether he could fill the seat with a fellow Repub….
ymmv…
None of us know one blessed thing but isn’t it fun to speculate. We’ll be reading chicken entrails fairly soon I think.
Just mild calisthenics to keep the noodle from locking up during these lazy days of August.
btw, yer a good boy. of course u are.
everything is relative.
i am not a total nit.
i stay sane by playing one on the toobz.
it works.
but then, how would i be able to tell, bubba?
lazy?
in yer dreams…
Or Sam Nunn.
Back on topic, sorta, with regards to double standards. There’s a story that the little girl who sang in the opening ceremonies was lip-synching. The actual singer was live, but off camera because she was deemed not cute enough.
Hopefully, Bayh’s past cheerleading for the Iraq invasion takes him out of contention. Personally, I suspect picking anybody from the Senate or any Washington insider would dilute his message. In that case, Clark might fit the bill, although having NO experience in government might be a liability.
Probably pointless to speculate but rest easy regarding Bayh, I don’t think he’ll get the nod.
in re the lazy summer day
callisthetics calistetics calisthenticsexercises…caveat: trust if you must, but always verify. eh?
Just speaking for myself.
how about anyone that doesn’t have a worn-out hall pass for his penis?
so that the news can be about what’s going on in our country/government.
: )
*to the fainting couch again*
You lose.
According to this article from stateline.org (from the Larry Craig stories), Alaska, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Wisconsin do not allow the governor to appoint a replacement and Arizona, Hawai’i, and Wyoming require the appointee to be of the same party. Otherwise, it’s purely up to the governor.
It goes against my nature to become overwrought concerning things I have zero control or influence over. Barack’s potential VP nominee definitely falls into that category. Just idle speculation.
That was actually for Adie @ 74.
Not criticizing you at all.
just trying to dig meownself part way back up outta the hole I dug for myself up thread, and merely making it deeper.
ever see video of a Megapode digging herself a nest? Messy but it works.
I wish I could do as well.
Clark’s valid questioning of the value of McSames military history and Obama’s subsequent denial of Clarks assertions would lead me to think Clark is not the one unless Obama has finally decided to get a gun to bring to the knife fight.
You lose.
Is that necessary?
No problem – I appreciate the info.
If McCain wants to keep hammering Clark for telling the truth, it would just keep the focus on the fact that being a POW isn’t preparation for being president, a point so obvious even Bob Schieffer should have been able to grasp it.
I’m sure that dakine just meant that my *state* would be a loser….
It’s a reality that faces a lot of folks with Dem senators mentioned as potential running mates for Obama whose replacement in the Senate would be appointed by a Republican governor.
Which means that we all would lose in those instances. Which is one of the reasons I am not in favor of Senator Dodd or some of the other Senators often mentioned as a possibility as well.
No problem, I didn’t take it that way.
It’s been fun but I’ve got errands to run, see y’all later.
The information is useful.
I was hoping to help someone not look like they were overcompensating.
I’m sure I just took it wrong.
we agree, i do believe!
what’s to verify at this point? I’m feeling as safe as it’s possible to feel, letting Obama make the veep decision. I have no control over that, other than trusting Obama.
tw3k at #62 is being ever so kind to me, or he’s afraid i’ll explode all over the furniture if he says out loud what he’s thinking.
ComeON, tw3k. U bein’ too too quiet. That’s not healthy. Let it rip! ;->
I apologize for taking it wrong.
This might become more apparent too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdJUCU1UH2w
I read about that and saw the pictures. Dang fool “adults”. Smoke came outta my ears. Stupid evil nasty thing to do to that little child with the beautiful voice and also a pretty face. Every child’s face is beautiful.
But, but, Rush said they all look alike, so?
Just popping in to add my two cents. There are lots of people who get their news from Rush and Sean. I would hope that his comment about Elizabeth maybe turned some of them off. (yeah, right!) I have been playing the who’s missing from the speakers list at the convention. I know Bayh, Clark and Kaine don’t have a speaking role. What about Biden? Clark probably wouldn’t have a role at the convention anyway but I figure that the VP is one of those.
Hey Adie,
Where are you from? :-)
waste of time. I just get in a bad mood and make everyone not like me.
What about Al Gore
Don’t you worry about that. It happens to the best of us. And, I should know. :)
What’s it called when you try to direct thoughts to someone else? I’m trying to send “Howard Dean, Howard Dean” thoughts to Obama.
I know it’s not telekinesis…. but that reminds me of the joke – “Ok, everybody here who believes in telekinesis – raise my hand!”
I just realized someone else missing from the list besides Gore, John Kerry. As the nominee last time wouldn’t he a speaking role?
Losing former candidates tend to not have a real big role during the convention. folks don’t want to bring up the bad memories.
So it’s no surprise that there’s no role for Gore or Kerry (or Dukakis or Mondale). There may be a role for Carter if it’s considered that he’s been “rehabbed” but there may not be just to avoid linking him to current problems. No “guilt by association” in other words.
I hope not. Dull.
Jane’s a coupla floors upstairs…
All the entitled men in power shivered in their boots when the women’s movement began to take effect. At about that time, when they saw the lay of the land, we see the Christian Coalition and that ilk start to ramp up big time. They feared what would happen if women were to gain true positions of power– sometimes I dream of the world with women in power. It just boggles the mind to think how different things would be… Alright, revisions have had to be made as Pelosi’s, et al disastrous term has unfolded — her installation as speaker surrounded by grandchildren perhaps gave us a hint about her concept of a woman’s true role? like under some men’s thumbs?
I love posts that snark on Limbaugh and his ilk LOL! a little comedy relief from the more serious events of the day.
We claim OH as home for the past 30-odd years, but growin’ up NY too near NYC for my psyche, significant time (much happier!) in MA – both e. coast & western; upstate NY; a dab of Saskatchewan; a dash of WA before roots were finally allowed to grow in OH. Parents southern midwest born & raised. Loved watching westerns as a kid. Adored dear departed Molly Ivins, tho never met her.
Hence the royally mixed-up “accent”, which is for real & hard to control; so i tend to let it flow with the subject matter at hand. Not meaning to offend anyone.
Apologies for dwelling on the nonsense-details, mebbe it’ll help explain some things. Also, heavy-duty history in horse training and university-level background aimed at animal behavior, yes, inevitably including humans. It colors everything I see and do. I firmly believe in the worth of trying to walk in the other guy’s moccasins to gain understanding. I desperately want peace and harmony in the world; a clean healthy, thriving world with plenty wilderness preservation; contageous spread of kindness wouldn’t hurt either; mutual respect and acceptance of our differences; all that good stuff.
Cruelty, greed, mean-spiritedness, such as displayed and reported about the likes of junior & deadeye, & their enablers. Those things set me off like a rocket.
I am stubborn enough that I will not stop working within this framework, however it evolves, for the rest of my time on this fragile, abused planet.
Okay. Your turn! *g*
no. not a waste of time. we’ll work on it. you have so much to say. important stuff that people need to hear so they are made to think.
it’s not all roses.
we have to find a way to work together.
we just must. a big but necessary step.
please keep talking.
foothillsmike, that was incredible. It was devastating. Obama’s ad people should be thinking that way.
Carve that up into 60 sec spots and go nationwide with it.
don’t u get me started! i SWORE i wouldn’t SWEAR on the toobz. it’s hard sometimes…. ;->
referring to link at #92?
Agreed. It’s absolutely chilling. Very powerful.
I hope the ad gurus can find some way to use it against mccnt.
Good point. I think a lot of us have been singed around the edges once or twice. Still tender in spots. Carry on anyway.
Just play turtle. Pull the tender parts into the shell for a bit if things get nasty, then move along right smartly when they look away, or just any old time you want.
I’ve had to deal with some pretty nasty tempered people in politics on occasion (mostly just public school stuff). I found my biggest, most powerful weapon against the nastiest would-be bullies was to forge ahead without getting my own temper bent outta shape, and to remain scrupulously honest as well as ready to document anything I claimed. It drove THEM crazy, not me. They had no clue how to fight that. HAH!
echoes in here. bye.
unless they’re on their knees. Then they can open wide.
Rush Limbaugh hates women. Females comprise more than 50% of the US population. Rush, why do you hate America?!?
The convention only runs 4 days.
