Jared just won his hard fought primary in a Colorado congressional district north and west of Denver, centered on Boulder. He'll be replacing Mark Udall as the Representative for CO-02 and I have high expectations for much more progressive and innovative leadership. Within moments of Joan Fitz-Gerald's concession, Blue America unanimously endorsed him-- as we promised we would last November. Jared is an early signer of the Responsible Plan To End the War in Iraq and his progressive stands on every key issue-- from supporting Choice to opposing warrantless wiretaps and Bush's war in Iraq-- are perfect for our PAC.
Jared will be the first-even openly gay man to win a congressional seat as a freshman. Shamefully, Inside the Beltway ass-kissers, HRC declined to endorse him. The voters in Colorado should be very, very proud of themselves and the people of America should be very proud of our brothers and sisters in Colorado. Results are updated at the Denver Post as they come in.
Please consider congratulating him today with a $5 Hurray at the Blue America ActBlue page.
UPDATE: MOST CO-05 REPUBLICANS REJECT LAMBORN
Doug Lamborn, a freshman with one of the most tragically extremist voting records in Congress represents a blood red central Colorado district centered on Colorado Springs (which, as you probably know, is Satan's home on earth). But even there, voters are uncomfortable with Lamborn's brand of neo-fascist politics. Today 55% of his district's Republican voters went for one of his two opponents, Jeff Crank or Bentley Rayburn. He will face Democrat Hal Bidlack in November. Meanwhile, speaking of Lamborn, the 5 most reactionary members of Congress:

Congratulations Jared!
nice work Howie.
Wow.. Way to go! Jared :)
This is really good news. America is waking up. Congrats, Jared and thanks Howie.
Finally, a gay man who is even. I’m so tired of those odd gay men, and the prime gay men are of course all taken anyway.
It has been a clean campaign so far.
Denver Post has endorsed Repub in this race.
done. great work, Howie.
Good work. We were in Boulder the day before yesterday, and his people were waving their signs at almost every corner.
congratulations jared and to all of your supporters! and to us when you win!!!

Good news indeed!
Congrats Jared, and Thank You Howie.
w00t! Jared, way to buck the Beltway!
Colorado Springs is Satan’s home on earth? I always thought it was Kennebunkport, Maine.
I keep wondering how the cranky guy just down the road from us is feeling these days.
He’d been a cranky faux-Dem. for years, but switched allegiance to cranky repug. just a few yrs. ago, amid great harumphing about the noble bushiness cause ‘n all that stuff.
heh. i’ll look fwd to seein’ him sweat when he comes up for re-elect. as woot woot township trustee. methinks it would serve him well to stop bein’ quite so cranky and pompous.
let’s just sweep the country while we’re at it. i’ll git the broom. Be sure to git the dark corners on the right side there. *g*
GM, Adie. Gonna be a lot of cranky Repubs come Nov. I am looking forward to it…..a lot :)
I understand Kennebunkport has a rather active Democratic party. I’d be hesitant to blame them for whut’s hiding in the bushes.
On the side of the building serving as Democratic Party Headquarters in Kennebunkport, there’s a prominent sign:
A friend of ours sent us a pic of same, if anyone can tell me how to send that pic to FDL, it’s yours to enjoy. ;->
Know any powerful gay men, or perfect, harmonic, transcendental, et cetera?
Howie. I wonder if you’ve uncovered any wonderous candidate possibilities for replacing Sen. Voinovich (R-OH-hopeless). Not sure when he comes up for re-election…
Congratulations to Jared Polis and welcome to Blue America!
Congratulations to Mr. Polis. Winning the primary and possibly becoming a new member in incumbent-addicted Congress, much less as a progressive (even from the People’s Republic of Boulder), is an enormous achievement.
The vehemently fundamentalist crowd that is drawn to Boulder’s political opposite — Colorado Springs (a hundred miles south along the Front Range of the Rockies) — seem drawn there as if in a dream out of Stephen King’s, The Stand. It’s not being Las Vegas is only an accident of geography. That they voted to change incumbents is an unexpected sign of optimism, or at least rationality.
