He was a wonderful companion, and his compassion and wisdom will be sorely missed.
So long for now, Satchmo. See you on the other side.
(The poodles made a donation in Satchmo’s name to the San Diego Humane Society as a way to thank him for everything he shared with us.)

Bye-bye Satchmo, and thanks for everything.
Pretty teary night here at the poodle palace.
Bless his heart. ((((Tbogg and family))))
Oowwwwoooooo Satchmo.
oh, no!
Hugs and condolences to TBogg and the excruciatingly lovely Mrs. TBogg, and the gorgeous Casey.
Farewell, Satchmo.
((((tbogg & family, satchmo, poodle family))))
so very sorry for your loss and pain
What a fabulous photo. So very sorry. (((TBogg))) (((Satchmo)))
Rest in peace, Satchmo.
Much love to the Boggs. Lovely bunch, heart goes out to you guys.
Truly sad; my full condolences.
Tbogg – what sad news. Love to you all and a donation from Molly the Great Pyr to the SD Humane folks from here as well.
So sorry to hear.
Peace for Satchmo and the tboggs.
I having to take care of dog that was hit by a car this morning and tomorrow I will take it to the local vet clinic to see if they can find the owner and if not have it put to sleep. I always hate this kind of situation. I am glad Satchmo had a family that loved him.
Oh, that is too sad.
My condolences to the TBoggs…
Woof bark woof for Satchmo!
So very sorry. Thoughts and prayers to tbogg and the lovely Mrs. tbogg. And lots of love for Satchmo…and the people who served his food dish through the years.
Satch, you brought love. Sorry Tbogg, for the pain.
Oh no!
Just lost a beloved cat last month, so I know how devastating it feels. Condolences.
Jane and the FDL crew…thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the tribute. Satchmo warranted the highest praise, that he was GOOD dog. To say we will all miss him terribly is so inadequate.
It gives me hope for humans that we are able to love our animals so much and have them love us in return.
Sadness for the Tbogg family.
Woof!
Thanks for frontpaging this – I hope people will go to TBogg’s page – the picture and caption say it all.
Water Tiger is upstairs…
condolences and best wishes to TBogg and family
He was a very good dog.
Perfect, in fact.
Lots of love to all of you.
Thank you and love to you and the poodles…we miss you.
Rest in Peace, Satchmo. By loving and being loved, you made the world better.
TBogg and family, I’m so sorry. Be gentle and kind to yourselves this week.
FunnyD
wow, this is weird-
in honor of satchmo got up to go around and HUG and pet my ‘girls’.
went to hug callie the collie–hey hunny bunny-rubbed her all over
then onto ellie (mae clampett)tiger-on her blanket on the bed-hey little kittie girl. pets, kiss.
couldn’t find sunshine-calico-thought she was on the bed with ellie, cuz she’s usually on my feet when i’m on the computer or on their blanket on the bed-she went into the closet when i got dog food to feed callie. curled up asleep. she’s not a meower. ellie just pushes the sliding doors aside and slips in and out. sunshine just lays down and takes a nap. she knows i’ll notice she’s gone and find her. but i wouldn’t have noticed until i went to bed..
if i wouldn’t have gotten up to hug them, i wouldn’t have known for a while. my doc closed his kitty in a linen closet for two days. couldn’t find her.i don’t have any closets they can’t get out of.
the only awful part of loving a pet is having to say goodbye, and that is torture. but loving them also makes it easier to say goodbye when the day comes, because you know you gave them a good life, and they helped your life be better by being there for you to love. doesn’t take the sadness away, but does make it worth it.
that’s how i feel about it anyway.
happy trails satchmo
it is tough losing a great friend..we all hav e to pay that price for the joy they bring. I like to think of all the fun we shared. And next time we will ne even better friends. Just lost my pal two weeks ago. He got a ten day goin away party so that helped me but him not so much. Remember the fun. The tears will slow down soon I hope.
So sad. It never gets easier. Good boy!
My deepest condolences.
I lost a dog once when I was young. I never replaced her because it had hurt so much.
What a kind and wise face. Dogs know things we humans only get a glimmer of.
I think they give more along the way than you lose in the end, though. I loved having cats around, because they were a nonstop source of amusement and companionship.
Just in case they don’t see the other thread, I’ll pass along my condolences to TBogg and the rest of Satchmo’s family here as well.
Condolences to the TBoggs
I’ve had to put down so many animals in my 45 years it never gets easy. But a few years back I had to put down a cat who adopted me and lived 19 years and by the time I got her to the vet the doctor said to me “It’s like you squeezed every last minute out of her. She has about five minutes left.” And I of course was bawling my eyes out and she held my hand and said “It’s your obligation as an animal lover to always get another one, that’s the homage you pay to your beloved animal”
I’m very sorry for you, Tbogg, and Mrs T too. Losing our animal friends means losing our most forgiving friends — the ones who love us no matter what — and that’s a truly hard thing. My best wishes and condolences.
Damn.
My condolences.
I’m visiting San Diego, so unfortunately I can’t hug my own doggy tonight. In fact, I just went by that very same Humane Society today, not knowing anything about Satchmo.
Just a coincidence, no doubt, but a very strange one.
Hugs to all the tboggs and tdogs.
We never rescue them, they rescue us from the shortcomings of life. They live to be with us and ask little. Do not remain dogless. The greatest tribute to a dog lost is to bring another dog into your home. Your dog would not want you to endure the emptiness because he had to leave you. He would want you to be taken care of by another.
(p.s. With the lousy economy, there are more dogs than ever in need of rescue and love.)
I’m so sorry for your loss. I some times think we dog lovers mark our time on earth by the canine friends we grow to love and see pass on. I hope someday science can extend their lives as they surely will ours.
me too
Sometimes, I think their lives are short so that we can rescue and love so many more of them…or maybe it’s the other way around.
Rest in peace, Satchmo.
My thoughts are with tBogg family. All of us who have loved our little friends have been through it. I think Satchmo is running free in very good company now.
Oh, no… Satchmo’s back doesn’t hurt any more, and he’ll wait faithfully on the other side of the rainbow bridge until he’s reunited with TBogg. It’s so inexpressibly sad when one of our 4-legged friends dies. (((TBogg)))
((((HUGGING TBOGG FAMILY))))
So sorry to hear about your loss! Gawd. There’s nothing worse than losing a pet and the only thing that compares to the pain would be losing a child. Both are one in the same.
((((MORE HUGS))))
((((Satchmo))))
((((TBOGG Family))))
My condolences.
so very sorry, TBogg. My condolences to the TBogg family, two legged and four.
Don’t think he could have had a more loving, caring family than the one he shared his life with, tho.
(((TBoggs & Satchmo)))
So saddened to awake to this. My love to the TBoggs. This week marks the
anniversary of my big guy’s farewell. I’d like to think he was waiting
on the Rainbow Bridge for a romp with Satchmo in a sunny, painless field.
((((Bye Satchmo.)))) Kingsley buries a green toothbrush in your honor.
So sorry tBogg. Great dog.
I was raised by basset hounds in the New Jersey wilderness (absolutely true), so I can really relate to your loss. I wish I’d had the pleasure of meeting Satchmo.
Cujo359,
I have always encouraged cats to come around though never in the house.
My oldest son and his fiance each had a ”huge” cat that lived with them inside their homes, and when they married, it became a happy foursome. And now with my grandson, it is a happy fivesome.
I think the best cats to have are neighbors’ cats. If you are away, they are fed and taken care of. You don’t have the vet bills. And they take care of the ground squirrels in your yard that like to dig holes everywhere, so I have always encouraged the neighbors’ cats to come on over.
:)
