Aloha, ES!
R.I.P. Isaac!
ES!
A Bad MothaFucka.
(Shut your mouth!)
Awesome selection!
Hey Eureka!
Good evening all
Hey, what a title! Is there music to this?
Hey from Panama, ES.
The Grey Lady has an excellent article on the new CBO report…
Digg it!
It’s a classic song title of Isaac’s.. the last link in the post.
Have you purchased a hat yet, LooHoo?
Such art together with showmanship!!
es!!!
first bernie mac then issac… voices i will miss but thank goodness there is a good body of their work available.
Hahahahahaha!
Panama hats are really sold mostly in another country, and I can’t for the life of me think of where right now. Costa Rica? Ecuador?
There are the hats here, though, ES. Give me your address and I’ll send you one in appreciation for your consistently great tunes! You have access to my addy, right?
Hey Suzanne, I didn’t know a lot about Bernie… but Isaac.. That man used to melt ladies in numbers that would rival Elvis.
Are you a complete pod person yet? /s
OMG, hannibal. I’ve tried so hard to get past your handle! *g*
Allah has been arrested on drug charges.
Where are you in the great adventure, Suz?
i am a complete pod person.. only have to put the tv, vacuum, 2 fans and one lamp in (and there is just the sweetest spot right in front waiting for me.
oy, i’m tired. tomorrow, i clean.
What’s to get past? Are you an anti-cannibal or something?
sitting in an empty house that needs cleaning, badly, loohoo.
clean tomorrow and hit the road wed.
Wow, that’s nice LooHoo.. you just enjoy your trip and take pictures for us when you can.. I have a huge hat collection… trust me….) But thank you!
What’s been your favorite meal so far?
Last time. Kinda sweet. I hope you can muster a smile throughout.
Puppy cloner also alleged Mormon raper?
newtonusr,
Never heard about why you didn’t make it to Netroots…I thought you planned to, at least tentatively.
Here is some classic Bernie Mac, it ain’t work safe and I am going to Hitail it,
It’s a learning experience for the uninitiated!
What a huge relief! I wish I could buy you a snow cone.
This should be pretty high up on the list of things you really shouldn’t do with a hammer.
It was quite something last night to look back on all this man did. What a career, and what a story.
Youtube wanted: Isaac Hayes “Running Out of Fools” from the album …To Be Continued…. Similar in tone to his own “Your Good Thing” above, but not his composition. Far as I’m concerned, the definitive version of a classic.
Zombie pilgrim.
The ornery collection.
Hi Loo Hoo!
Too late in the summer for me. Early June (yKos One) is fine, July is very tough.
Suz, did you have to make any last minute tough decisions, or did everything fit?
Believe it or not, sushi.
Suz, you are such a sweetheart. Do you know how many people would just hit the road without cleaning the joint?
People just can’t stop gawking at the stinky, giant, strangely shaped penis.
And for the record – I missed seeing you a lot.
I was absolutely amazed how much was not on youtube when searching for his works.. including so many songs he co wrote or worked on in the Stax years.
I can’t even click on that link, hanibal!!!
Whew, He even wanted another chance…!
Fisherman catches 3,300 lbs Stingray.
everything fit!!! newtonusr is the king of the pod packers – sigh – my neighbors and i are completely in awe of his ability to figure out how to place stuff in it so it doesn’t shift.
Which one? The stinky giant penis? You’re missing out on a great punchline!
Awww. I was hoping to see you. But instead WangDang and I got drunky. We toasted you, though!
I would have paid very good money to see that!
dood, i can only imagine how you set up your rss feeder for the news of the twisted and strange (laughing)
You are on a roll tonight, H.
Either that or I just spend way too much time on DailyRotten and Fark.
Be showing up soon I guess, now. 8.. I’ll be refreshing my own disc collection for sure.
I bet there are some folks out there who are just discovering what Hayes really was about, and are chagrinned that it’s at his death. It has happened to me, so I know the feeling.
Thanks for putting up the grooves.
No kidding!
ES – how did I ever miss Mable John?
Great stuff!
Girl found in horror closet.
It only gets worse from there.
Least I could do.. Check out his bio sometime. On the left, here. I had no idea he made into the rock and roll hall of fame, but I did know he had been kinged.
Walking the streets of Memphis… I swear to this day I can hear all of those classic Stax folks still singing and laughing… day or night.
I bought this collection the day it came out on CD.. late 80’s or early 90’s.. It’s fantastic.
Very excellent!
You’re really going to sleep in your pod? Totally pod. Tres kool.
Obama speaks with Rice regarding Georgia via JThomason at EW’s shop.
Today, I posted some Anecdotes On Iraq’s New Parliament Building…
not me, just my stuff :)
i’m more of a hotel kinda gal – with room service.
Bailey still won’t go in the house, Suz?
I worked as a cocktail waitress at a club called Jabber Wocky one summer in the mid seventies. Issac Hayes was it. IT.
Guess I misunderstood re your place in the front – sounded so ummmm …. ballsy.
only for food. she came in last night and it was bailey, token and i trying to all fit on the sofa.
token was all upset today watching the rest of the stuff go.
sorry, the sweet spot is for the tv and vacuum. sorry for the confusion – i’m tired and wasn’t as clear as i shudda been.
He knows the deal! They aren’t dumb by any stretch…! ;-)
Stumbled upon him live about ‘69/’70. Had no idea who he was but was immediately taken.
Trust me Sunny – sleeping in the pod as it is now would require superhuman contortionist feats.
I wouldn’t ask Shooter to sleep in there.*
*Disclaimer: not really… C’mon Dick – here’s your cot.
nope. this will be the first time we have been separated for longer than 2 nights.
I can imagine how upset Token is, Suz. Dogs have a hard time leaving home, but as long as you are there, he’ll be fine. **Best in Nine Pound Category Doggie**
Hiya, pups! I’ve been gone for a few days, and now we’ve got another rash of GOP political corruption indictments coming down in Alaska.
he and bailey are gonna stay with my neighbors (his sister’s people) until i find my ‘where’. then i come back and get them and they only have to move one time.
so many names to pick from. hearing any hints?
Hey ET, Are you in the path of the volcanic dust?
Young??
what volcano? i’ve been offline all day.
Awww.. (((Bailey, Token and Suzanne)))
I wonder if he’ll be mighty miffed with the impending separation…? Particularly when ya pick him up afterwards… I recall one dog I had turned his nose up at me and wouldn’t come near me for a couple days when I’d left him for a spell with my folks…!
Whoo hoo ET – do share sooner than later, if possible.
I see. That’s a great plan. You’re going to miss the little scamps though. (I’m sure missing Kobe and Cindy Loo Hoo.)
McClatchy has it.
thanks es
ES,
We’re not in the path yet. But with three volcanoes erupting simultaneously, who knows. There have been airplane cancellations, but our sunset was normal.
npb.
Not Young yet, but probably Ted’s son very soon, and this guy, fairly unknown outside of Alaska, today.
Hey I must have missed the heads up on tonight’s Daily Show……Jon Stewart just skewered John Edwards and pointed out that Bush should be not our President but our mascot. Go Jon…………….
Then you could send him off to storage..
egad, et, do they do this triplet stuff often or is this unusual to have 3 going all at the same time.
i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed for young and the younger stevens. like father like son appears to describe the two of them. all 3 peas in the corruption pod.
What’s on my mind tonight? Further reflections on the olympic opening ceremonies: London just shat their pants.
Why London?
2012?
It’s quite interesting to compare and contrast the reactions of the usual suspects when comparing the Israeli/Lebanon war of 2006 with the Russia/Georgia conflict of 2008.
-G
Oh.
I don’t think 93 Senators will be approving cluster bombs for Georgia anytime soon. /s
Vancouver, BC is where the next Winter Olympics are in 2010 though. I do wonder how they’re going to top China’s Summer Opening Gala. That’s going to be very hard to do, methinks.
The Russians are going for it.
My dog acted terrified of me when I picked her up after boarding her. Great trick – pushed all my buttons and caused plenty of raised eyebrows.
London has the next summer games in 2012. I wouldn’t want to follow that act.
However, the Brits should turn to their amazing pedigree in music for some universal appeal. That would be a good place to start the creative engine.
.
ET, McClatchy had this report on Young…
Ah yes, I remember it well! His hottest-selling years, starting with Hot Buttered Soul which got big just as I was taking off, were my college years basically. An introduction to the chill of romance.
…..”fairly unknown outside of Alaska, today.”
Heh, heh. Any chance someone in this crooked group will turn government witness?
If only all this weren’t true. The WH and Congress wouldn’t be happy if the Georgians bombed Russian fuel oil depots either. Or – maybe we would.
Speaking of dogs the new one is a pip. When I woke up this morning there was a paper towel roll pathway from the kitchen to the living room. The other day I found the toilet brush in the living room. She likes to eat pens, also. We named her Suke. Did I tell you? Suke-Japanese for beloved. We belove her.
Did you find out before or after?
I predicted late last year that he’d be running out of money in July. He didn’t, partially because his primary opponent – the Lieutenant Gov – is an incredibly dim bulb, partially because he keeps promising he’ll be able to keep on delivering pork, and people here are stupid enough to believe him.
Ha…
Oy….
What a fucking disaster.
Death follows Bush around like a lost puppy.
-G
Two already have – the VECO CEO and VP. Ex-Gov Murkowski’s ex-chief-of-staff and this new guy, Weimar, will talk too. It is part of their plea agreeements.
Shocking photo revealed! Obama physically assaulted McCain in 2006!
OK.. I have one hannibal entry tonight.
How’s Miz Benson fairing?
In between.
Mostly she is really good. She listens and has stopped peeing in the house. Yesterday she rousted out a flock of turkeys at the park. A tiny dog chasing and jumping after giant birds. Wally just shook his doggie head.
Good name. ^_^ Makes me think of one of their common phrases for ‘i like/loveit!’ Daisuki!Daisuki!’ Translate to ‘big love/like’ *grin* If you go that route.
And a common name(also of one of my favorite voice actors from over there.) Daisuke, which i believe is the last name of one of their baseball players that plays over here professionally now. It’s of course, been shortened to Dice-K over here. About as close to those that don’t listen to japanese spoken all the time can get. *grin* Or isn’t a voice talent (seiyuu) fanatic like me. :D
All Jeebus All the Time. Geebus.
suke mcc
has a nice ring to it mary mcc
egad!
Being creamed by the Rahmbot fundraising-wise. We’re coming up on the last two weeks of the campaign, and Diane’s way down in the only poll in months.
First name, alias! Daisuke Matsuzaka, pitcher for my BoSox! ;-)
All the Antichrist stuff just makes me like Obama more.
That sucks, ET!
This one’s making the rounds, e.g. Hilzoy and Brad DeLong for two. I wonder if Landay was the one who did the interview: how did he survive?
Article. There’s some other things in it that are scary in a different way, too. Time can’t pass quickly enough …
Last question, I promise…. ;~)
Is there any
hopeerrr… expectation the MSM will assign full trial coverage? Can I just say I despise Rahm. Whew, that’s better.
You know that picture’s going to end up being used in a Swiftboat ad. Or a Washington Post op-ed. “ZOMG! Obama beats up old man for his lunch money!”
What’s really odd is that youtube was linked to:

This crazy preacher man is awesome. So delightfully insane. I think I might have to email him.
Yup. What ES linked to. So cool!

Army’s jungle warfare school a hit with US commandos
Ah, thanks CT. *grin* I don’t know baseball that well.
Rest well, Suzanne the complete pod person.
Oh, Mary. How sweet she must be. Do you have pics yet?
When are you going to run for the House and just be done with the stupid asses? We have your back, ET.
LooHoo, I am so happy for you.. all full of sushi in a new condo! Do you like the condo and the neighborhood?
Is Panama City expensive?
I like that, Hannibal!
Suke
Sleep well and sweet dreams dear Suz.
That’d be a hoot! i think i’ll stick to music and being a troublesome dfh blogger…
“A big surprise on gas,” by Indur M. Goklany and Jerry Taylor, LA Times, August 11, 2008:
Per LAT: “Indur Goklany is the author of “The Improving State of the World: Why We’re Living Longer, Healthier, More Comfortable Lives on a Cleaner Planet.” Jerry Taylor is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute.”
Here’s more on the Cato Institute’s “gasoline affordability index”: http://www.cato-at-liberty.org…..the-1960s/
My pocket book thanks you.. would be tapped out if you ran. *g*
Per that article:
But my friends from that part of the world have always known that. In fact, right after 9/11, they told me the ISI is run by Islamic fundamentalists and were the ones who established the Taliban.
Pakistan’s military, by contrast, are quite secular and are on very good terms with their U.S. counterparts. (So I’m told.)
I love it, Hannibal! Thanks, ES.
One old timer told a friend of mine recently.. It took a weeks pay to have enough money to fill an auto tank with gas (in the twenties or thirties, I suppose).
LOL! You’d have plenty of company in dat tapped out category ES!
(((((Edward Teller)))))and (((((EurekaSprings)))))
OMG, I love it here, but can’t retire yet. I went to see the condo today, and the view is incredible. (I bought it three years ago, before it was built.) Great area –El Congrejo–restaurants, shopping, banks, etc. all within walking distance. Really cool.
It’s so different from my ruralish life. I look forward to living here part time in a few years. Have to rent it out for now.
Be cool, but run for office too, ET. Let’s face it, the congress critters from Alaska have not been all that they can be!
Seriously, you love our country, you are a very intelligent person, you work your tail off…what more could we possibly hope for? GO FOR IT!!
I’m somewhat skeptical about Cato’s numbers. In the mid-60s, gas was 20-to-30 cents per gallon, and today it is fifteen to twenty times that. I don’t believe that the median salary has gone up by a factor of 15 to 20.
Perhaps they are looking at median “family income,” which is skewed by the fact that so many women have entered the job market. But the influx of women into the job market since say 1965, has been accompanied by an in increase in the number of multi-vehicle families and an increase in mile commuted, etc.
I could see ET now.. leading the committees in song before impeachment proceedings.
Picking up a horn and blowing real loud whenever Issa speaks. /s
Strider, the capitol dog, with a special scroll (Hugh) list on his neck.
How could I forget seeing her all cuddled up in the comforter? She is the sweetest!
She’s adorable mary! Suits her name perfectly. :D
Dependence on the auto(s).. should be a serious factor. Can’t live without one or more in most places.
Nevertheless, Minimum wage after taxes would take about a day and quarter to half earnings to fill a 15 gallon tank these days.
Blast hits Pakistan air force bus
Hear, hear! Go for it indeed ET!
And congrats Loo Hoo for your far-sighted retirement planning and leading by doing.
Past time for this ole brat to head to bed. Thanks firepups for another memorable late late late nite at da lake. poof ***
My friend, the CATO institute?
Shit, ET, please blow it WHILE Issa speaks! PLEASE.
Sweetest of dreams, NPB!
His friend, Ralph Reed, too.
Ralph Reed: Come meet my new friend John McCain
1,731 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Eureka Springs and the Late Nite Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Yo late nite firepups…ah shit we loose another truth teller, Isaac Hayes will be missed on this planet.
And yes Brother ET, you are gettin’ ta the point that you’ll be too famous not ta run fer office up there soon and don’t give me any bullshit about havin’ too much fun doin’ whattcher doin’, jest think how much fun you’d have standin on the floor a the house givin’ the fascists a little taste a the truth…now THAT’s what I call fun!!…(not to mention creating a huge migrain fer Nancy Pelosi).
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, IT’S ALL ABOUT THE STRUGGLE!!
CITIZEN NORSKE!
Notorious, yes! Famous, Not!! Thanks for the confidence, pups. I wish I shared it with you….
Who knows, Citizen Norske? Maybe old ET will have to listen, since a bunch of sober progressive freedom fighters are a calling ET to serve through all hours of the night.
Calling it a night in the rainy and cool Ozark mountains.. feels like late September tonight.
Good night fabulous firedogs.
I’m trying not to puke.
I’m waiting for the breakthrough: the moment the country sits up startled and scratching their heads at McCheese and his pimping, startlingly incompetent campaign, and says to itself, “What the Hell was that?” I hope it comes right quick.
nite eureka
Confidence is not a requirement. Just be yourself! If you win, you win for all of the right reasons. If you lose, what the hell? You tried. Nobody worth their salt would dare blame you for trying. (And remember, you have a huge advantage with puppers money!)
newt, there is so much out there on McCain. Did you see TPM’s Dazed and Confused? I can fetch it if you haven’t.
I have.
TPM has stepped up with the vids. Long, cogent essays on the campaign.
Again, the breakthrough is going to be on us. The MSM isn’t going to lift a finger unless embarrassed into doing so.
Don’t forget as women entered the workforce child care expenses went up. People began eating out more and eating premade food more which is more expensive less healthy and now that under Bush the FDA is letting China and for all we know American companies put in a lot of extras into the food that are not good for us.
We donate clothes instead of repair them or turn them into dusting or car wash rags.
Whats the estimated value a stay at home mom earns that is what is not added in.
Never mind kids getting in trouble more because one parent isn’t home cost more.
Arrests, drugs, pregnancy crashed cars, maybe lower school grades than they would have otherwise got.
Didn’t McCain investigate Ralph for the Jack Abramoff Indain casino lobbying scandal?
McCain very likely ended Ralph’s political career. Did John tank the investigation or something so Ralph owes him now?
Yeah and we can do research on issues or opposition research on the cheap.
Now is the time I don’t think that Democrats have ever had it this good getting elected since FDR. Can you talk in front of an audience without getting to nervous.
What are the options? Can’t live on one income, and the woman ain’t giving up her retirement benefits. (Unless they listen to What’s her Freaking Name?) Schlessinger?
I’m not running, but Bob Hamilton is running against Issa.
When is the Lake getting Diaries? I was saving this for the Diary or Al the Spook’s new blog he seemed to like it but he’s been distracted with his Father dying. Anyway Does Dick Cheney watch the passion of the Christ and take notes? Or does he do a Pee Wee Herman? Trick Question the Answer is that he does both after all he has two hands and a Really Compartmentalized Mind.
But seriously when are we going to stop torture? If not us then who? If not now when? If the Democrats won’t do anything to stop torture when they have control of the House and Senate can we trust Obama to do the Right Thing on torture after he messed up a no brainer like FISA?
Everybody talks about God when they run for President, Bush even talks to him. Or does he…somehow I think that after being Crucified that torture would be VERY HIGH on Christ’s list of things that were No Nos.
Looking back at history I wonder if the Englishman who lit the fire under Joan of Arc said that My god is bigger than the French God? Just like Lt Gen Boykin said
An American newspaper found him addressing church congregations wearing his uniform.
He told audiences that terrorists hated America because it was a nation of Christian believers and that the enemy in the war on terrorism was Satan.
Muslim ‘Idol’
In one speech, he recalled a Muslim fighter in Somalia who said he had the protection of Allah against US forces.
“Well you know what I knew, that my God was bigger than his,” said Lt Gen Boykin. “I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol.”
From 1978-1993 Boykin was assigned in various capacities to Delta Force.
Most recruits come from the United States Army Special Forces (the Green Berets) and the 75th Ranger Regiment. Not just anyone can become a Delta operator; personnel must be male, in the rank of Sergeant (E-5) or above and attend a Delta briefing to even be considered for admission. Since the 1990s, the Army has posted recruitment notices for the 1st SFOD-D [5], which many believe refers to Delta Force. The Army, however, has never released an official fact sheet for the force. The recruitment notices placed in Fort Bragg’s newspaper, Paraglide, refer to Delta Force by name, and label it “…the Department of Defense’s highest priority unit…” [6]. The notice states that all applicants must be males, 22 years or older, have a general technical score of 110 or higher, and be in the ranks of E-5 through E-8, with at least four and a half years in service.
Such recruits are men with skills such as proficiency in a foreign language or other desirable traits. The selection process is based on the UK SAS model [7][8]. The selection course begins with standard tests including: push-ups, sit-ups, and a three mile run. The recruits are then put through a series of land navigation courses to include an eighteen-mile, all-night land navigation course while carrying a thirty-five pound rucksack. The rucksack’s weight and the distance of the courses are increased and the time standards to complete the task are shortened with every march. The physical testing ends with a forty-mile march with a forty-five pound rucksack over very rough terrain which must be completed in an unknown amount of time. It is said that only the highest-ranking members of the Pentagon are allowed to see the set time limits, but all assessment and selection tasks and conditions are set by Delta training cadre.[8][2] The mental portion of the testing begins with numerous psychological exams. The men then speak to the commander of Delta and others within the unit. If an individual is selected for Delta, then a 6 month training cycle/probation begins, starting with firearms accuracy and training with other types of munitions.[2]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Force
My bold: You would think that multiculteralism would be encouraged in the Special Forces after all as Sun Tze says
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Sun_Tzu
In all Fairness Eric Haney, a retired command sergeant major of the U.S. Army, was a founding member of Delta Force, the military’s elite covert counter-terrorist unit.
he is against the war here is his view on torture.
A: (Interrupting) That’s Cheney’s pursuit. The only reason anyone tortures is because they like to do it. It’s about vengeance, it’s about revenge, or it’s about cover-up. You don’t gain intelligence that way. Everyone in the world knows that. It’s worse than small-minded, and look what it does.
I’ve argued this on Bill O’Reilly and other Fox News shows. I ask, who would you want to pay to be a torturer? Do you want someone that the American public pays to torture? He’s an employee of yours. It’s worse than ridiculous. It’s criminal; it’s utterly criminal. This administration has been masters of diverting attention away from real issues and debating the silly. Debating what constitutes torture: Mistreatment of helpless people in your power is torture, period. And (I’m saying this as) a man who has been involved in the most pointed of our activities. I know it, and all of my mates know it. You don’t do it. It’s an act of cowardice. I hear apologists for torture say, “Well, they do it to us.” Which is a ludicrous argument. … The Saddam Husseins of the world are not our teachers. Christ almighty, we wrote a Constitution saying what’s legal and what we believed in. Now we’re going to throw it away.

Good point we need options like husbands or wives getting paid more I don’t care who that and alimony and child support needs to be enforced better.
What I do know is that my grandfather made enough to keep him and his 3 kids fed despite coming from Mexico, learning English and working manual labor construction jobs.
Today a lot of Citizens can’t make enough to so both parents have to work.
Attaturk is upstairs!
Don’t kill yourself getting back here
As America slips deeper into economic reality, you aren’t going to see a peak unemployment rate of 33% as we did during the Great Depression, just like we aren’t going to see the banks close their doors. But that does not mean the effects won’t be equally devastating. Rather than 33% unemployment, we are likely to see 12% unemployment in the coming years, and 40 or even 50% underemployment.
But Washington will hide the data as much as it can by introducing new tricks and playing new games. And while the FDIC insures bank accounts up to $100,000, the real question won’t be whether you’ll be able to withdrawal your money, but what it will buy.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..ying-games
IMHO, as the denominator in their affordability index, they should use per-worker discretionary income rather than per-family raw income.
What really got me about that article, aside from the appalling ignorance of basic facts that have been known by the most casually interested for about 60 years, was the presentation of reasons why Pakistan might rationally choose to hedge against our acting against their interests, e.g. the recent general tilt toward India, the nuclear co-operation compact with them, India’s development of strategic trade assets in US-supported Afghanistan that wuold cut Pakistan out, and potentially provide an incentive or opportunity for India to try to control Pakistan, combined with that same obliviousness of officials in the USG to their role in creating these conditions.
Add to that what they might see as our importuning about things that matter more to us than to them, or that have a much higher cost in stability to them than they do in immediate threat to us (the cavalier way in which US appear to have broken up some ongoing intel operations, a matter on which the ISI is better-informed than we are, has got to play a role in their perceptions here), whether they’re justified about feeling this way or not, and it’s possible to see how they could feel more that they’re being expected to capitulate than that they’re either being bargained with or confronted with a transparently legitimate request.
I wonder whether the Pakistanis might have been more willing to risk a nuanced view of even the exact same set of facts if we had not gone clodhopping into Iraq.
Oh, and one more:
Never Can Say Good-bye
Agreed we need all studies and polls to publish their methods and use of Statistics this lying with numbers stuff is getting cheezy the lies are not even believable.
