eureka, what is the piece of music?
redneck mothers
never mind. duh.
ES, I’ve been making my rounds of the Milblogs and left some comments at several, consensus is that it’s not good at all, but, credible! I did some digging around of where the Carriers are and only one of them I couldn’t pinpoint! Strange that none of the milblogs had even a whiff of that bombshell…!
Did John Williams write Hymn to the Fallen about Tiananmen Square?
“Hymn To The Fallen” by John Williams
Heh, To say the least…! ;-)
Hi everyone.
I don’t think so.. I think the person who made this YouTube chose the music to go with the images.
Well? He he he. Seems like the europebusines.blogspot.com, is the original source. I don’t know enough about it to be certain. Spook thinks it’s worthy, that’s something, I suppose.
Bombshell?
-G
Good evening.. I’m asking CT about this news.
I’m a little alarmed at the casual attitude of people (NBC, Costas) strolling around Tiananmen Square – ground zero of ruthless oppression and sacred ground for those who died for liberty (a vastly overused and abused term).
wigwam, ya gotta check out this bombshell ES had shown to me earlier…!
eureka, hopeyou don’t mind, was epu’d, ha. wanted to send to suz for her travels.
and doesn’t really matter if you believe in god or not the intent is the same.
(close your eyes and stop before end, way too much clapping.)
suz–was thinking of you as i was getting ready for bed and saw the irish blessing hanging in my bathroom, hand painted and lettered….
for you-tried to find a version of how i sing it, no luck.

Hymn to the Fallen is from the Private Ryan soundtrack

No matter how one slices it all up, Tiananmen was horrific. I suppose one reason it will always stick in my mind was the fact I was in San Francisco at the time. The city really stood up and the protests went on for weeks. The passion of that time will always stay with me. I was also taking about 19 hours of photography classes that semester.. So I had twice the excuse to stay close to the action. Sure wish those photos were digital now.
Liberty indeed. Click on the photo link “Tiananmen Square” in the post.
Tiannamen. How quickly we forget. Olympics uber alles.
Yep. Ug-ly.
ES- on my mind? My friend “Jay”.
He got spotted on Chinese TV protesting in Tienanmen Square. He already had a temporary visa to go to the US, because he had been accepted to grad school in Iowa. His father, a local provincial official, managed to get him on the phone, to say that he’d been “spotted”, and that “they” were after him. “Jay” got on the next plane he could to the US. No chance to say goodbye, but I think that saved his life.
It wasn’t until ~11 years after that the US Immigration Dept. finally “gave” him a J-2 visa, and that with much convincing from me to “Jay” to push this, and other folks from our Univ pushing on local congress critters. And, even after that, “Jay” felt he was possibly taking his life in his hands to return to visit his family.
Why am I saying this? Not sure, except that it’s a story I know. And, all and all, his experience as a protester at Tienanmen Square was relatively “good”. He’s alive.
Hey Suze, make sure your RATD CD is handy – it’s good road music!
Eureka! Not interesteded in Chinese fascist non human rightd Olypics. Sorry folks just can’t get behind it, At least in the 36 Olypics in Nazi Germany Jesse Owens protested as did a few others.
This is lame no one is rocking their boat in a serious way.
IMHO, the charge is treason:
Nevertheless, President George W. Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq knowing full well that Iraq posed no immanent danger to the U.S. and that no benefit would accrue to the American people, but only to himself and the supporters of his party.
The preknown consequence has been that a major barrier against our opponents in the war against terror has been removed from the scene, which has given great aid and comfort to our enemies in that conflict.
The obvious charge is “TREASON”.
Glad to hear Jay’s with us.
Thanks, eCHAN. He was very, very fortunate.
Shotgun Dick Cheney is swinging his flaccid pud and yorping about how Russian aggression ‘will not stand’.
Blah, blah, fucking blah.
Go shoot a lawyer your rotten old criminal.
-G
Nothing at all the same wrt Iraq, more;s the pity.
Here’s one blog’s take on the article I don’t necessarily agree with their skepticism… I also checked on the carrier locations as best I could and they are headed to the region…!
Wow. Oh, shit! That looks really bad. Thanks for the headsup.
Amen, big bother. I tried a few times this weekend.. three minutes was all I could take before I felt the same senseless nationalist nazi like propaganda about our Amer-o-centric selves. It’s like watching a nazi freak show in color without the swastikas.
I sure wish I could watch them on BBC or some other countries network… And yes, If i were there, I would be protesting, not watching.
VG, There are so many stories.. I know I can’t shake my memories of that time, nor should we.. Did Jay actually go home and return without trouble?
There’s something very wrong with this statement:
And that’s not even the most fucked up statement in the article!
Dr. Hawes is a butt monkey.
Yes, he did, thankfully. Finally got to see his family again after 12 years.
Suz, you’ve got mail. I had read earlier that you were hitting the hay, so I emailed you instead of posting a comment for you.

That shit gets so tiring so damn fast.
i wasn’t hitting the hay – sayhing g’nite to someone is probably what you saw. i replied.
although, i will be going to bed very soon. i’m tired with a capital t
Pravda chimes in:
Then when there is a retaliation, Tblisi goes whining like a cry-baby to the UN Security Council, playing the victim. The question remains, what is behind Tblisi’s policy? Is it the USA, launching a war by proxy against Russia, using its puppet in the area to start a full-scale confrontation? What does Washington hope to gain with such a policy? Is this Custer’s last stand, as the Bush-Cheney regime flushes down the sewer where it belongs, a last-gasp attempt at world domination by provoking the only country capable of standing up to Washington’s imperialist plans?

pretty ill
thanks for sharing
Nighty night Suzanne
Pretty? A professional writer referring to Kafka as Kafkaesque is pretty? Equating lesbian porn with bestiality is pretty?
Dude, those aren’t exclamation marks. Read it again.
Pretty ill means rather sick.
-G
Oops! Sorry about that!
Yes. “butt monkey,” indeed.
Notice that the plural (in “levies war against them”) is used. I wonder how the calling up of National Guard elements of the several states, to be deployed without a formal declaration of war or a true national emergency justifying their deployment abroad, would fare as the basis of a treason charge. Not very well in the current political climate, I suppose.
(((((SUZE)))))
((((EurekaSprings))))
CT, could you please say more about how you view the article “Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran” on the “Europe” Web site? I have no military background at all and it is hard to know how seriously to take a rumor like this one.
Is “Operation Brimstone” a fact?
Do you think the “Europe” article is reliable?
Do you think the U.S. is preparing for war with Iran?
Does this have anything to do with Georgia?
NPB!
You good?
((((NPB))))
Brimstone was a just completed exercise; I remain skeptical about the Europe article; yes we’re conducting ops right now in Iran, not necessarily outright war which remains to be seen; and, lastly I see no viable connection to the Georgian episode…! ;-)

Is Georgia the Russian word for Grenada?
Here’s another caveat…!
Very interesting comments there. Thanks.
kinda one sided ya think??
I looked him in the eye and saw… fuck off asswipe George you don’t know shit.. Putin is pure KBG and will do what he wants and won’t put up with Georgia trying to keep the south Ossetia region as part of their country… The Russian Bear Roars and the Georgians will weep!
I’m good – kicked back all day in my pj’s catching up on my reading and the Olympics coverage and lazy cat naps in between. ;~)
Nope. Georgia means the same thing it does in the U.S. Not the sharpest pencils in the box.
What was peculiar about George W. Bush’s purportedly getting a sense of Vladimir Putin’s soul?
Neither have souls.
Careful.
IANAL, but IMHO, it wouldn’t work. The government just recently gained the power to call up the national guard for law enforcement. Per the Wikipedia:
Scary Orwellian shit.
Yea, I know. I almost didn’t hit the submit comment button. I figured being from La. gives me some leaway.
This is just creepy weird.

Creating your own reality is hard work.
Presidenting is hard, too.
Anybody seen this?
Furenners are going to buy up millions of dollars in foreclosed homes. Nice.
The Old Espionage Act of 1918 had provisions that stated that the giving of knowingly false information that led to deployments that caused the death of US military personnel or aiding or abetting our enemies was prosecutable.
Thus producing a “false flag” incident or generating forgeries that initiated or contributed to a war climate would be prosecutable.
Hannibal, thanks for hte Exiled link. I don’t think that is weird -I think it is standard operating procedure for these things. It just got reported straight up this time, that’s all.
The Exiled looks like an interesting paper. I bookmarked it.
Nice McCain gaffe: calling on the UN to take action after the US blocked the very action that McCain called for. Wunner if that will get reported? Nah. Why not the corrupt and lazy corporate national affairs press has all those PR press releases, so much easier to handle.
I will not make fun of Bush grab assing at the Olympics. For everyone’s sake, I hope stays there making a fool of himself. Things will stay safe that way.
If his master Cheney calls him home to rubber stamp some god-awful scheme, then time to get worried. Wonder if Russia would take that as a sign to stope their brutal and criminal payback for a brutal and possibly criminal action by Georgia.
The Exiled article also contains hints that US explicitly green lighted Georgia’s action against S. Ossetia. But no link or evidence that I could see. I hope that was just venting and speculation. Something like that would give me chills.
I hope things stay under control until these viciois goofs leave office. Then we might be able to get up a constructive strategy for the vicious non-goofs who rule other parts of the world.
Espionage Act of 1917
“SEC. 3. Whoever, when the United States is at war, shall wilfully make or convey false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States, or to promote the success of its enemies, or shall wilfully make or convey false reports, or false statements, … shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than twenty years, or both….”
Much in the Act has been declared UnConstitutional but this element still holds…I believe, and has been incorporated into other laws.
This is kinda funny.

Bet a million bucks it is the Saudis or Dubai. Let’s see. They gouge us at the pump. They commit usury with their credit card schemes. They have Georgie invade their enemy and competitor, Iraq. Our treasury is drained with this war. And now the fuckers are buying the homes of the people they have already raped and pillaged. And it is still possible that McCain could win in Nov. What a world.
rather than foreclosing on homes and selling them to foreign investors for as little as 31 cents on the dollar, the banks or mortgage companies could have written off a large portion of each loan and reduced the monthly payment obligations of the homeowners accordingly, substantially increasing the likelihood that the homeowners could make the payments and stay in their homes.
wouldn’t that have made a lot more sense?
willfully make or convey false reports or false statements with intent to wage wars of aggression.
Of course. But that would be giving in to the little guys. And it would be the right thing to do.
also if you do a Yahoo news search you can find the candidates reactions.
Seems like McCain wants to get up a NATO war council of some kind to unleash threats of righteous violence. Obama seems to actually know something about the situation.
I can’t really see much difference in either candidates’ boilerplate (what is there to say in the face of such a mess). But Obama doesn’t want a war council so McCain camp has a “national security expert” (aka useless academic goof with frightening violence idealiations, and no visible means of support other than cushy hack paycheck, nor employable skills) smear Obama.

Wouldn’t that be of aid and comfort to our enemy, and thus “treason”?
“Greetings from AR!”
Apparently the NSA guys in the van have given up on Suzanne now that she is moving, and have transferred operations to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. ES is awaiting restoration of service in his area, and I suppose he will have to tempt the “white van” guys with cookies or such before they let up.
Eureka will be back soon.
Carry on.
From the FDL news box:
“As Russia Goes To War, McCain Camp Sees Benefit”
Treason, the seven letter word for Global War on Terror.
I really want to make the case that “treason” is the only appropriate impeachment charge for Bush.
They’ll take cookies for an appetizer, but they want his packets.
I’m speechless…!
Seems like the correct path to me.
Falsifying intelligence for a war of aggression, using terror to pass legislation undermining to constitution, using the military for domestic propaganda.
I saw a quote from a Vet at a website I frequent that I got a good chuckle out of…
“A veteran voting for McCain is akin to a chicken voting for Col. Sanders…”
lol, does Col. Sanders even use chickens anymore?
Everything is good for John McCain!

I saw a quote from a Vet at a website I frequent that I got a good chuckle out of…
“A veteran voting for McCain is akin to a chicken voting for Col. Sanders…”
Is that a common Vet reaction? Cause the GOP without the military vote is a GOP that might as well stay home. If Obama beats Reagen’s numbers on election day I’ll drink a case of red bull just to stay up and watch the MSM GOP talking heads try and explain this away.
Attaturk is upstairs!
Let’s bring back the band
Yup. See #105.
Any word on the Diaries or should I just start unloading a topic or two I’ve been saving even though they might be kinda long?
I’ll see you 105 but I’ll wait on the long topics till later.
Yes. I knew someone would. That swfs are in the lead, at least somewhat openly, bothers me only a little bit more than that it is taking place at all.
It’s always been the scariest thing to me about the mortgage crisis (which needs a more forceful name badly), because cities in the U.S. are legally rather weak corporate entities with no provision for guaranteeing the tenure of a citizenry or protecting its right to residency; viz. New Orleans.
A related article to the one from the Post is Newsweek’s The Predators Ball, on how the federal government-sponsored enterprises have been used as lobbyists in Georgia and other U.S. states to thwart the states’ attempts to regulate predatory mortgage lending.
Note that the states are generally the lowest level of government that can effectively regulate in this way, either directly or because cities, towns, and other municipalities might have to request certain assistance or the authority to carry out some kinds of actions from them.
