I think that the would take the di minimis view that pardons simply don’t apply to impeachments, but do apply to any potential criminal trials at the Federal level.

If Bush pardons his henchmen the clear response would be to impeach them post hoc and prevent them them from receiving ANY “posts of honour, trust or profit under the United States” for perpetuity.

No government contracts, loans, pensions, future positions in government agencies, no carry-over privileges of office, etc. Ban them from lobbying Congress, or serving in any corporation that receives a government contract or tax-break.

What makes this so delightfully ironic is that the Republican thesis has been that the people should do well without government meddling. Let them actually “live” the experiment!

Awful cartoon, but what you would expect from Disney: being dispossessed is such fun.

Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo, Friedman, Kristof and Judson today. MoDo typed “Keeping it Rielle,” and says the most stunning admission John Edwards made was that he’s a narcissist. Mr. Friedman, in “Flush With Energy,” says America needs to learn from Denmark, which responded to the 1973 Arab oil embargo in such a way that today it is energy independent. Mr. Kristof suggests we “Make Diplomacy, Not War,” and says the United States is overinvesting in military tools and underinvesting in diplomatic tools. Ms. Judson’s column is titled “Honey, I Plumped the Kids,” and she suggests that reversing the obesity epidemic may rest on helping women lose weight before they conceive and helping them eat a balanced diet while they are pregnant.

http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got a box of chocolate croissants to share because yesterday’s errands took us by the bakery. Hoover is clamoring to go out, and I need another cup of tea. Have a great day.

The only thing protecting those goons from prosecution is the fence around the White House. They have absolutely no incentive to leave, and I will be greatly surprised if they do.

So do I, I’m just throwing out options. Right now I’m worried about war giving Bush a chance to declare martial law which would render impeachment and elections moot.

* Never. The third view (Citizen Spook’s, pretty much) is that the president can pardon all offenses except impeachment-convicted ones, which consequently remain unpardoned and unpardonable forever.

In a case of impeachment, by definition, the case consists of the grounds for impeachment that get reviewed by the House: the allegations (alleged offenses), the facts in evidence, the relevant laws, and the arguments offered in support of those allegations, all of which persist beyond the judgment in the case. So the case persists forever, and its allegations retain their status as offenses alleged in a case of impeachment.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyo.....157/563279

This could work but what about the Supreme Court?

What if we find Bush mad or maybe just incompetent a deal like that would protect him and his families wealth.
But it would render any pardons useless because Bush was not in his right mind.
I think Bush would love to sell everyone out just so long as he got to keep his.
