The people who enforce the regulations on a day-to-day basis are career civil servants, not political appointees. Knowing the criticality of fuel, it is very hard for me to believe that anyone would be so foolhardy as to state a policy that the FAA was not going to monitor airline compliance with minimum fuel requirements.

I ran out of gas about seven miles from home the other day.
