In the midst of the unqualified joy over Steve Cohen's complete drubbing of corporatist hack Nikki Tinker and her truly ugly campaign, there has been little discussion about the biggest loser...Harold Ford.
Tinker was Ford's protege, the former manager of his campaign. Ford thought that his machine was entitled to his old seat, and the residents of his district thought otherwise. By overwhelming numbers.
Late in the day, Ford came out and denounced Tinker's campaign tactics -- long after it could have done Cohen any good, a sure sign that Tinker was getting her clock cleaned. As if he hadn't been integral to the campaign from the start.
It his to his credit that Barack Obama has steered clear of both Ford and the DLC from the start. It was a smart political move. From his hectoring lecture at Netroots Nation, his cheap shot against Markos on Meet the Press, his concern trolling on Fox News and his general sleaziness -- everyone is sick of Ford.
His machine couldn't even break 20% for Tinker. Harold Ford got his ass kicked.

I know people have affairs. I know not everyone’s marriage is perfect. I know that it isn’t always possible to think with your head. But when you are a progressive candidate representing the hopes and aspirations of millions of concerned Americans is it really too much to ask to keep your pants on or at least get out from under your marriage first? This isn’t just about one man’s lie or peccadillo. Edwards’ behavior undercuts his credibility and along with it his message and the progressive ideas he espoused and that the country needs. It was not simply stupid. It was incredibly selfish. I can not convey the degree of disappointment I feel.
God knows what goes on in any marriage but to risk the nomination like that makes me ill. So sorry for those who donated. You’ve been had and that is a crying shame.
No offense, but Harold Ford really isn’t that smart of a guy. He has gotten to where he is based on his good looks and not doing anything WHATSOEVER that ever rocks the boat or challenges the establishment.
At this time in our nation’s history that is Exactly the type of people we don’t need leading us.
Don’t forget Ford’s new Bride had dropped the campaign maximum on Tinker. If that isn’t a sign of support or is he going to say that he had NO idea what his wife was doing with THEIR money?
