. Karl Rove on John McCain: "Mr. McCain is the most private person to run for president since Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s. He needs to share (or allow others to share) more about him." Yeah, he probably needs to start talking about that POW thing he never wants to bring up.
. Republicans in the House continue their geek show on behalf of the oil companies, and House Minority Leader John Boehner expresses his sympathy with the #Dontgo indignation by...golfing. Meahwhile, John McCain is exhorting Democrats to go back to the sham session - even though he himself hasn't been present for an energy vote since he and Methuselah were whippersnappers. But hey, the GOP has to earn that $13.5 million in big oil contributions this cycle somehow, right?
. Newt Gingrich threatens to shut down the government if the Dems won't allow a vote on drilling in September. Because, well, it worked so well the first time. Newt doesn't seem to realize that this isn't his call, and the guy who would be in charge is trying to sink a putt on the 9th, but a camera is a camera and Newt hath no fear. Or shame, apparently.

Newt used to have delusions of grandeur, now he just has delusions.
He is a Republican isn’t he?
Hi Jane
Then again, maybe in Cheney’s “shadow government” Newt is still House Speaker.
I get the sneaking feeling they’ve found a loophole to make law if the democrats are not present and judging by how the democrats allow the republicans to get away with their crap, that would be a method of voting yes without actually beng their to vote no…they could act all indignant and all
After Jan 20 cheney is going to start a new Washington think tank focusing on the role of delusion in government
Judging from the photo that must have been one hell of a long putt.
I cracked up when I saw that the Newt was “threatening to shut down the government” again.
I mean, it worked so well for him last time.
But then remembered that in order to shut down the government, you actually have to be part of it.
In the immortal words of Emily Latella: Never Mind
“Who Says Republicans Aren’t Funny?”
They just don’t seem to understand that we’re not laughing with them, we’re laughing at them.
More likely the role of no-bid government contracts on his assets.
Newt Gingrich: Delusions of Adequacy.
Newt forgot he was neutered
No plan, no shame, no oversight
Digg It Jane!
Thanks

McCain wants Iraq-style ’surge’ to right US economy
Good one.
I just love that.
I especially liked California’s Pete Sessions on parade with a few of his oil money gulping friends at the Capitol this afternoon waving a tres chic bicycle pump around in an attempt to ridicule proper tire pressure. I thought briefly he was going to say something smart about riding bicycles, then I remembered he was a Republican.
Sorry - that’s really not funny.
Is that like a surge in lower taxes for the rich?
laughing so hard, I initially missed The Architect likening his candidate to Coolidge - jeebus
Thanks, that was pretty awesome.
Greg Sargent and Eric Kleefeld have a good post up at TPM re: High-Ranking McCain Campaign Officials Were Paid Lobbyists For Hess. Maybe Rove is right, this is the sort of thing about McCain that should be shared.

Well, in Republican circles, where reality is an unreal concept, Silent Cal is a hero. Who cares if he set policies that led to the Great Depression? He meant well and after all he wasn’t that big a crook.
“Karl Rove on John McCain: “Mr. McCain is the most private person to run for president since Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s. He needs to share (or allow others to share) more about him.” Yeah, he probably needs to start talking about that POW thing he never wants to bring up

John McCain, the most private person in politics.

Isn’t Coolidge one of Rove’s personal heroes?
Can’t the dems give this protest some catchy name? Like “the Exxon sit-in”. I know that’s not good (I must be a typical dem) but there must be some creative person that can come up with a name for this protest that nails what it’s really all about.
threatening to shut down the US Govt on behalf of Big Oil - strumpets!
using terminology from the Oil & Gas Services, we could have some ‘crude’ fun with a menu of services these, um, workers are offering their johns:
everything from sucker rods: $75 to mousehole: $125 - all the way to the overnight Prudho’ Bay $7,500.
The Contract with America is good to go…charge!
The Exxon/Big Oil Corporate Welfare Act of 2008
and oh please, how about this “private person’s” six books ?
Free Screech Movement
That works.
Just don’t try to kiss them on the lips.
1,727 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher:
Well there she goes again…doesn’t she know that irony and a knowledge of history are unAmerikan?
Great post, Sister Jane, if McCrazy getz more’n 30% of the vote this November some people better go ta jail!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION…AND TAKE NO FUCKIN’ PRISONERS!!
P.S. Whole bunches a folks better be goin ta jain anyways after this November!
jail…
OT Hamdan gets 66 Months
That’s The Contract ON America.
Newt is quite the attention strumpet isn’t he? Ick.
The local newsboards in Iowa are blasting the Republicans for this. I have heard things like: Of course the Republicans are sitting in Washington in the dark because they are too ashamed to come back to their constituents and face the fact that it is their failed policies that have caused our current mess.
Todays GOP, taking pride in ignorance.
-G
I would count that as lenient considering the prosecution was asking for 30 years.
There you’ve got it: You can’t Go Home Again.
And about the Mc Sitings on the tube: No wonder he had no time to show up for the votes; he’s got a TV career. What a great collection.
Got a link?
And that would be another rebuke to the admin since the prosecution was asking for 30 years to life.
So I guess he gets out now with time served since he’s been in custody since 11/01. /s
Less than he has already served.
thanks - can’t tell from the little sqib out there where ‘time served’ fits in
The “worst of the worst” is serving less time than the boys from Adelphia.
-G
yahoo
It was breaking news on MSNBC
or Abramoff, or Cunningham
He could have gotten life, right?
So essentially Bush got the driver of the “get-away car,” threw him in jail, tortured him, put him on “trial,” convicted him of driving the get-away car, and put him in jail for 5 years.
What a slap in Cheney’s face.
I’m starting to get paranoid - you know, McCain isn’t confirmed as the GOP nominee, yet. Newt is really getting some face time lately.. I REALLY hope “Newt in 2008″ is not the “October Surprise” we’re all waiting for.
I think he was credited with 7 years served leaving him with 5 1/2 yet to go. The question is, will they ever actually release him? Of course, the Bush-Cheney junta will be out of the picture, so maybe he has a chance.
who knew fig leaves came in ‘camo’
If Newt is the GOP “surprise” then I think I might be all for it. I’m sure he is congenitally incapable of hiding his arrogance and stupidity. Especially since he has never been able to do either at any earlier times of his life.
He has five months left
Bush Sr. actually invaded Panama, spent $1 billion (I know, it seems like nothing now but back then it was a lot of money) to bring Manuel Noriega back here to stand trial, at which time they realized they didn’t have much of a case. Despite that, they’ve managed to keep him locked up for nearly 20 years and if he ever gets released he’ll probably get extradited to France. Life ain’t easy for a humble hard-working dictator.
The AP is saying Hamdan would be eligible for parole in 6 months.
Remember the “freezer full of cocaine” turned out to be flour for fajitas.
-G
Thanks for the update. His statement at the sentencing hearing sounded pretty heartfelt, I know it won’t satisfy all the people who think we should lock up every Muslim chauffeur in the world and throw away the key.
Let’s not forget these tribunals are Bush’s baby. The first trial after 9/11, the worst of the worst and he’ll do less time than Vietnam war hero Duke Cunningham.
Bush fucks up everything even his own kangaroo courts.
-G
I ate one of those fajitas. Couldn’t feel my teeth for a week…
Sheehan needs to turn in 3000 signatures by tomorrow at 5pm.
http://cindyforcongress.org/
maybe McBiker will relent and add him to the ticket - wouldn’t bring any of the sorely needed cash, but might give him all those righteous Dobson boots on the ground . . . oh puhleeze!, that would be almost as good as naming Cheney
I’m not sure where the AP is getting “parole eligibility” out of things.
Hamdan was captured in November 2001 and sent to Gitmo in early 2002. Which puts him at Gitmo for already over six years.
So if he has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years, he’s already served more time than sentenced.
Parole is only for getting time off of sentence and doesn’t play if a full sentence has been served, unless the judge imposes a probation period to be served after serving the prison sentence.
But I guess I’m talking about how the world was.
The great thing about Repuke spin…they believe it.
The spinners don’t believe it, just the Republican voters.
Joe Watson just slapped in the face by Shuster. Shuster called him a liar by pointing out that McCain has recieved millions more than Obama..Unlike the lie that Joe Watson was pushing.
-G
yes, indeedy, The Mindless Touch
I believe it was punaise who called it The Merde Touch
from reporting on Australian David Hick’s sentencing/release -
still trying to find “time served” provisions in MCA 06
At least Bush Sr. got the right guy. I’m pretty sure the guy responsible for 9/11 is still alive and free.
OT - Feds screw the Indians again - U.S. District Judge James Robertson has ruled that American Indian plaintiffs are entitled to $455 million in Cobell case, a fraction of the $47 billion they wanted.
but wait, there’s more: LAT -
ok, so it’s a spit-shined fig leaf

Isn’t this the time of year when Dubya takes a month off to hunt for OBL in Crawford?
ho-kay! I’ll be down here in EPU land -
from here if the irony don’t get ya, then the paradox will
these guys got rid of Mr ‘We Can’t Have Acquittals!’ as this was their plan - no conviction on terra charge, time served, out in six period mr addington may indeed have had his plan, but these officers had theirs
Questions for McBush:
At Sturgis you said that if he was the Prez he would NOT have allowed congress go on vacation. In legal and constitutional detail explain how the Prez can TELL or MAKE the congress do anything?
If you believe that as Prez you McBush, have the power to hold congress hostage on the floor of the senate & house then do you believe in more executive power?
man I like this question tons
What about the possibility of Dan Quayle being on “Dancing With the Stars”?
The last thing McCain wants to do is share more of him. He’s much better off not sharing a thing and letting the media carry on painting him as a loveable rogue centrist war hero.
