The polls are closed and we're waiting for the first results in Tennessee's 9th Congressional district. This may have been the nastiest, most racist primary in the country. Adding to the fun is that Emily's List had endorsed Tinker, who then went on to accuse Cohen, a Jew, of being associated with the KKK and being against prayer in schools. Cohen's record on both racial and gender issues, including abortion, is essentially perfect. What makes it more fun, as Blue Oregon points out, and as the flyer shows, is that this isn't late breaking racism and jew-baiting, it's been going on for a long time. Either Emily's list didn't do their homework, or they didn't care.

Obama came out with a statement smacking Tinker earlier today, but as usual, it was too late to make any difference in the race.

Prediction: as a friend pointed out, Harold Ford has also come out against Tinker. That probably means Cohen is winning.

Let's see if that prediction comes true. Drop new vote-count results in comments, and let's hope Cohen wins.

Update (8:14 CST) If it continues this way, there isn't going to be much to watch:

Based on early votes and absentee ballots results, Cohen leads with 80.56 percent of the votes. His main challengers, attorney Nikki Tinker and state Rep. Joe Towns Jr., trail with 17.22 percent and 1.44 percent, respectively.

Update 2, 9:22 CST(h/t Marion):

80% of results in:

Steve Cohen* (D / Inc.) 42,664 79%
Nikki Tinker (D) 10,189 19%
Joe Towns, Jr. (D) 808 1%
