The DCCC probably is an incumbent organization, they just have a different definition of “incumbent” than most folks. In their eyes, that seat is still Harold Ford’s (or at least the person he designated as his replacement).

Since Cohen is not Harold Ford or his designee, then by their definitions, he just CAN’T be the incumbent.

(Hey, it makes as much sense as any of the other fantasies out of the Beltway)

While my comment is not about the main ‘character’ of your post, another of the ‘players’ had an ‘interesting’ role …

As Nancy Pelosi reveals more of her character, she becomes less and less, and as she has reminded us, we, “don’t know the half it”.

No doubt she was referring to other ‘topics’.

But, by now, we’ve learned more enough about timorous Nancy.

Yeah and if a good progressive gets replaced by a corporatist hack, I guess nobody cries.

I don’t think Steny or Rahm would be at all upset if the entire Democratic caucus was made up corporatists hacks.

Which I think means, we probably need to be making sure Donna Edwards has enough funding to make sure she can fend off the attack of the Steny clone in a primary in ‘10.

Which you KNOW will be coming.

This election cycle is about much more’n Obama and the Presidency…in my mind, super majorities in the Senate and House are much more important than the White House. In fact with super majorities, the Democrats would be forced to play opposition hardball and ineffective leadership would be exposed and eliminated easily if the fascists control the White House with a weak President. With an Obama Presidency, super majorities would force (or enable) Obama to blast through legislation in the first 100 days that will kill fascism for 50 years.

So let’s have a progressive sweep this fall and be done with the Harold Fords, Nancy Pelosis and Harry Reids. (And jest who or what is Harold Ford and why is he followin us…he doesn’t have a constituency and can’t win an election in a Red state…why is he still breathin’ politically?!!)

If integrity means anything to the voters, then candidate Tinker would not succeed in her mission to win at all costs. (If not, then everybody gets what the voters deserve.) This election seems to be bringing everyone down to the lowest common denominators. One thing it ain’t; it sure ain’t pretty! Certainly not for the faint of heart!

It is arguable that Rahm Emanuel should have topped that Worst Person in the World list. He represents the worst of old-school Chicago-style politics. Maybe it is a political necessity that Obama let him play a role in the campaign but if I were Barack, I would keep my distance. With his history of cronyism, Rahm undoubtedly has skeletons in his closet that could damage the campaign and the party if brought to light.

That is exactly what I don’t get. Every other time, they help the incumbent. Why not this one? They have exposed themselves as the ultimate hypocrites.

Anyway, I called the DCCC and spoke to a nice black woman. After I explained that my Jewish parents are not only democrats but delegates to the party in NJ, I added that most jews don’t like to be called Christ-Killers and Jesus-Haters, and if they were goign to continue to suppor Nikki Tinker, I’d be tellign my parents to drop the DCCC. I was transferred to some schmuck’s voicemail, where I rehashed my complaint and added that I always though the “CCC” stood for “Congressional Campaign Committee” not Council of Conservative Citizens. “If she’s going for the CCC/KKK vote, someone needs to remind ms. Tinker that they don’t like blacks anymore than they like Jews…”

2010 and 2012 could be rough if the economy tanks as it very well could after NOV.

Pelosi has adopted Bush’s approach to his job: mostly ceremonial.

Yep and McC would solve it by giving another tax cut to the rich.

I’m not saying that they are not disengenuious, but I think there’s a lot of hypocrisy in a lot of places. I don’t know what labeling them as the ultimate hypocrites gets you.

It’s because Harold Ford has some how ingratiated himself with Rahm and Nancy. The House leadership always puts politics ahead of principle, which makes them indistinguishable from Republicans. In this case, what they did was neither principled OR politically effective.

Yesterday Emily’s List issued a statement denouncing the vicious ad released by Harold Ford’s machine candidate Nikki Tinker

Emily’s list unfortunately backs people just because they are women which should be, in and of itself, insufficient criteria for support but they have become an unwieldy organization and are at times incapable of examining their chosen candidates as carefully as they should..
My wonderful spouse who has been a champion of women’s issues for almost 40 years pointed out to me that a number of once good organizations have gone the corporate root and, in doing so, have lost their core values. Naral, Planned Parenthood and now Emily’s list. It is sad but it is a good time for non corporate entities (Blue America) to step up and fill the void.

Running this ad was/is reprehensible and shows just how far down the DLC has brought us.

Nikki Tinker will probably win because of the very large AA vote in Memphis and Rahm will feel vindicated. He’s a slug.

I tried to post this comment a minute ago, but it flew out into the ether. But your comment has inspired me to try again.
At least we know that one does not have to be an old white man to be selfish, unfair and just plain wrong.
It seems that stupid is an equal opportunity attitude.
These organizations are working against women if they continue down this path. At least, that’s my opinion.

If the Congressional leadership actually got the votes they claim they need they’d need to find a new excuse for thier votes.

Speaking of deplorable tactics I am underwhelmed with childish trash talk that is passing for columns by some contributors. Are we so afraid of losing this is the only means of communication? I am NOT a troll and I am NOT a Republican. I guess it is time to leave FDL because civility does not matter.

Allow me to take that just a bit further. He’s the boss of a patronage machine that funnels corporate cash to “sympathetic” democrats. In other words, he’s a damned crook. A smooth-talking bagman and loyalty enforcer. Not just a canker, but a cancer on the party.

Full disclosure: I loathe him utterly, so I might tend to be somewhat biased.

Obama and the Empire

Given all this, can we expect a more enlightened, less bloody, more progressive and humane foreign policy from Mr. Barack Obama? Forget the alleged eloquence and charm; forget the warm feel-good stuff; forget the interminable clichés and platitudes about hope, change, unity, and America’s indispensable role as world leader; forget all the religiobabble; forget John McCain and George W. Bush … All that counts is putting an end to the horror — the bombings, the invasions, the killings, the destruction, the overthrows, the occupations, the torture, the American Empire.

Al Gore and John Kerry both took the progressive vote for granted. Neither had ever been particularly progressive themself. Each harbored a measure of disdain for the left. Both paid a heavy price for the neglect. I and millions like me voted for Ralph Nader, or some other third-party candidate, or stayed home. Obama is doing the same as Gore and Kerry. Progressives should let him know that his positions are not acceptable, keeping up the anti-war pressure on him and the Democratic Party at every opportunity. For whatever good it just might do.
