Having already added a touch of “class” to his campaign by encouraging his wife to take her top off, McCain decides to undermine a weeks worth of willful Rovian ignorance by forgetting what they’ve spent all that money for:
Last week in St. Louis, Obama told an audience that steps such as inflating tires to the correct levels could make a difference when it comes to conserving fuel.
Cue gleeful mockery from McCain. Obama was naive, inexperienced and not talking straight to the American people about energy, he said.
His campaign went further, distributing to reporters tire gauges engraved with the words “Obama’s energy plan.”
Predictably, Obama hit back calling McCain’s mockery “ignorant,” arguing his plans were being misrepresented and saying that experts backed his call over tire pressure. Equally predictably, McCain’s camp hit back.
The surprise came during a telephone town hall meeting McCain held on Tuesday with voters in Pennsylvania.
“Obama said a couple of days ago says we all should inflate our tires. I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it,” McCain said.
Leading me quote that portion of a Maureen Dowd column which was worthwhile (sadly you have to read the typical crap in the first half):
McCain could dismiss W. as a lightweight, but he knows Obama’s smart. Obama wrote his own books, while McCain’s were written by Salter. McCain knows he’s the affirmative action scion of admirals who might not have gotten through Annapolis without being a legacy. Obama didn’t even tell Harvard Law School that he was black on his application.
McCain upbraids Obama for being a poppet, while he’s becoming a puppet. His mouth is moving but the words coming out belong to his new hard-boiled strategist, Steve Schmidt, a Rove protégé, nicknamed “The Bullet” for his bald pate.
Schmidt has turned Mr. Straight Talk into Mr. Desperate Straits. It’s not a good trade.
But not all of the hacks have abandoned “the Maverick” brand yet — Mark Halperin is determined to ride the GOP gravy-train right off the collapsed bridge. After McCain made the statement admitting Obama was right about proper tire inflation this went up:

You’ll look in vain for that now it has been scrubbed — Matt Drudge may rule his world, but toadying up to the GOP also keeps Time, Inc.’s paychecks to Halperin coming.

Even the McCain campaign doesn’t care what McCain says. Per them, McCain doesn’t speak for the McCain Campaign — talk about being out of the loop.
He’s just an old, wrinkly white haired guy.
Please, Ms. Hilton, the word is “elderly.”
Mark Halperin reminds me of the Louis Malle film “Lacombe, Lucien.” The chief character is a somewhat dimwitted young man who decides to sign on with the Gestapo just as WWII is winding down.

NPR (classical) says on the hour the deadly anthrax mailings now solved (qualified at their site – per AP just a few pesky details outstanding).

Citizen Attaturk and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Corporate media race announcers and advertisin’ shills notwithstanding, if Crazy John McCain gets more’n 30% of the vote there should be an investigation…well, there should be lotsa investigations anyway but still…when shills like Andrea Mitchell and Maureen Dowd start pokin holes in the helium balloon which is McCrazy’s campaign narrative, the fascist mojo has left the buildin’.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE BATTLE WILL NEVER BE OVER!!
The tire gauges are destined to be major collectibles.
John Pilger has a nice one on unaddressed WWII war crimes in The Guardian this morning
Citizen SunnyNobility:
It seems that the civil service professionals like the FBI who are gunna try and survive into the post fascist regime, are desparately tryin’ ta find a rug big enough ta sweep the shit under before the adults come around with subpoenas. It’s interestin’ that the anthrax attack is gettin’ such attention now…it seems that the career people in the government have the idea that the shit is gunna hit the fan pretty soon…not soon enough though!
Mark Halperin takes pride in being ignorant.
Good morning Attaturk.
Thanks, damn that lack of caffeine.
Interesting indeed. The fall-back motivation – hatred of KKG, is breathtaking. Lots a Kappas out there will be stunned.

Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo and Friedman. MoDo typed a thing called “McCain’s Green-Eyed Monster,” and says not since Richard of Gloucester killed his two nephews has there been such an unseemly outpouring of boy envy. Mr. Friedman’s column is titled “Learning to Speak Climate,” and he says the three phrases of climate change are easy to learn. The first is: “Just a few years ago …”

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got French toast waffles to celebrate the fact that Jim Martin won the run-off yesterday, 59% to 41%. I don’t think he really has much of a chance against the repellent Saxby Chambliss, but I’ll keep on hoping. Have a good day.
McMumbles appearance in Sturgis confirms beyond doubt that he is not only too far past his prime to be POTUS, but also that he is just plain not bright. While there may have been 20,000 people in front of him at Sturgis they were not there to see him. They were there to see Kid Rock. A biker. And while I am on the subject;
Bikers are not any more supportive of Idiot in Chief Redux than the general population. Irrespective the “Bikers for McCain” sign I keep seeing.
Bikers do keep their tires properly inflated. All the time. And it is not a joke.
Bikers includes a larger percentage of veterans than the general population.
Club bikers are politically active and here in Texas we have a full time, paid lobbying staff supported by our donations.
We are registered. We vote.
One more thing. A lot of us are, very much unlike McMumbles, capable of using polysyllabic words in grammatically correct, complete sentences in order to express complex thoughts and ideas.
Sorry for the rant. Good morning all. Thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Back to your regularly scheduled comments.

Citizen cbl2:
Get after it brother…I remember the first time I took the family out ta the Black Hills (I had been tellin’ my wife that I’d lived my entire life without seein the Black Hills, so why did I hafta go jest then…but that argument went over like a pay toilet in a diarrhea ward) and we hit Custer S. Dakota the second day of Sturgis….went ta breakfast downtown Custer and the middle two lanes of the main drag were packed with bikes parked from one end a town ta the other…Rushmore was packed with bikers and biker families too and the only stereotype to all of ‘em was costume and appearance…great people and they were all great with the kids.
So I’m not surprised the “bikers” are not crazy about McCrazy…bikers know fascists and fascism when they see ‘em.
Mornin’, pups -
Being a member of the dial-up impaired branch of the Lake family, I’ve only just begun seeing the paris hilton vid……..that’ll teach the thugs to keep their so-called “sense of humor” under control. *G* Makes my freakin’ day! Scar mouth also in a snit about a “heart beat” heard in Obama’s commercial against bush 3.0. heh.heh.heh They’ll overlook anything in similar vein in a mccain ad but Dog forbid Obama use subliminal messaging.
Mr. Cbl -
A most excellent rant!
A few days ago you had something concerning the anthrax issue. Do you have a link to your comment?
I was in europe when this was happening, and I recall that the anthrax was identified as coming from a lab in Iowa that had been privatized from the university under strange circumstances and the people behind the buyers were remarkably ill-equipped as to background to be investing in such an enterprise. My sources were either dead tree or broadcast media. IIRC the lab in Iowa had obtained their batch from the Army Proving Grounds in Dugaway. Does this fit with your comment?
I was watching McCain on TV yesterday. I guess I hadn’t seen him for awhile. He looked awful. He’s really aged a lot since he won the primaries. He had those things removed from his face. They caked on a bunch of make-up, but it looked weird. He could barely read the teleprompter. But most of all, he looked really old. I’m not sure he’ll make it to the election.
I’m glad someone finally brought up the inflated tires strategy. It’s so simple. A President with vision could get on TV and tell people that they should inflate their tires, take the trash out of their cars, drive a little slower, turn out the lights when they leave the room, etc. All that would add up to huge savings.
Norske,
Which vote count do you refer? The real citizens vote including the excluded others or the read out from the republican voting machines. I call the read out 49 % according to past experience with the black boxes.
Thanks tjbs, had either of you seen this from Greg Palast
Good Morning, And look for the Kiellor piece on Slate. He also has a few words for Mc. As in Ancient, and, well, dumb.
Marion, I didn’t think that he would have a chance against Jones, but the small turnout helped him. Hopefully Georgia will have a large turnout in November. Saxby’s flip flops on the immigration issue hurt him so maybe his voters will stay home.
T-Bear,
Sorry for the delay. I had a venue change. That was me, Mr.Cbl earlier, logged on as Cbl. She should be on in a while.
Good Morning Attaturk and Firedogs,
Mrs cbl here –
T-Bear – yes, Dugway was ID’d as one of 4 or 5 facilities where it could have come from. the article I was quoting the other morning stated the material used in the attacks had come from a USDA research facility in Ames . All of that facility’s samples were destroyed (by FBI ?). If that is true, that would be more than stoopid as the research facilities share and swap samples all the time – and a third facility (N. Ariz.?) had samples from Ames that matched the genetic fingerprint of those used in the attacks.
I’ll see if I can find the link
Blue Texan made a lolcat
Morning!
Good morning Cbl.
mornin’ biker dude, how about a ride ?
TBear,
a different link but contains same info – check out the handy timeline halfway down the page -

now the things get real tinfoil in reading the story(which I am still trying to find) of 1 anti terror guy meeting another at some conference and sharing some of this info just before Iowa spores got destroyed – the 2nd guy, recipient of info, is same guy connected to Zaccharias Moussaoui case – and no one knows his current whereabouts. jes sayin’
will leave any info I find in this thread for you
T-Bear,
here is the link on the 2 anti terra guys meet up
link
tinfoil or not, Marion Spike Bowman is definitely interesting
McCain is running on three things;
1) bigotry, he’s white, the other guy is not
2) republican divisiveness, he’s a republican the other guy is not (well, I think sometimes Obama is but that’s another discussion
3) cognoscente dissonance, if Obama wins that means bush was wrong about everything and the people who supported bush cannot accept that the damage done has been their fault
As long as corporate money continues to influence legislation and fill campaign coffers we’re stuck with politicians, Republican and Democratic, who will sing the corporate tune. Until the progressive caucus in the House has the power to control the House agenda none of that will change.
There is a certain element of pathos in watching McCain’s performance on the campaign trail. And time seems to be his principle motivation. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008…..-date.html
What we should try, I think, is a Wikipedia type of entry for various subjects. Take the anthrax matter. It’d be interesting if everyone with information put it on the site with every one editing it with links etc. It might help us to see the big picture rather than a bunch of little ones spread through comments. Unfortunately I have no technical ability. I have no idea how it might be done.
Ithought we were going to have a reasoned discussion of Inflation: re yesterday’s Fed decision to hold rates constant. I’m deflated.
“Obama didn’t even tell Harvard Law School that he was black on his application.”
Is this true?
Late again: Here is a link to the story about how the Iowa university lab became to be privatized as a consequence of Pentagon needs. The lab originally provided vaccines for veterinary and industrial workers exposed to anthrax. The run-up to Gulf War I created manifold demand for anthrax (and other biotoxin) vaccines. The university “sold off” their production facilities to a consortium of MIC interests. IIRC Carlisle interests/associates were involved. The story I recall, this privatized production obtained the anthrax from Dugway and proceeded to churn out dodgy vaccines which were sold at huge markup to the pentagon. I gathered that the facilities at the Fort pertaining to chemical/biological agents was more a research, and development facility to counter such substances. They would also be used to identify these substances, not produce them which was given to other facilities, e.g. Dugway. This article outlines that story.
