Obama’s in Indiana today, but it doesn’t look like he’s taking anything with him when he leaves.
Thanks to a tip from Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, we can all probably relax today about Barack Obama’s vice presidential pick coming during his campaign day in the Hoosier State.
…
"I’m absolutely confident there will be no announcement tomorrow. I guess the best way to put it is, if there’s an announcement tomorrow, I’d be as surprised as anybody else."
I would’ve slept a lot better last night had I found that item before I went to bed. And yeah, yeah, no one really cares about the Veep choice, blah blah blah.
So who do you think it’s gonna be? Sebelius? Clark? Kaine? Reed?

Not believing anything until it happens—or doesn’t. Does anyone know if Bayh had to submit all the vetting paperwork that some of the others have?
Morning BT, Morning RevDeb,
mebbe Sebelius
Jane.
Both Rahm and Short Ride Joe are going to be sooooooo surprised.
Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Obama is a clever guy and he is playin this out like a flyfisherman with a Rainbow Trout on the line. I don’t think it’ll be any of those spoken about so far (at least I’m hopin’).
dunno if he’s been vetted.
Indy Star
I’d be happy with a bunch of those names — Clark, Sebelius, Reed, Richardson. It’s a strong group.
Bayh? Not so much.
na na na na
na na na na
hey hey
good Bayh
As long as McSFB chooses Short Ride I’ll be happy.
I’m sort of rooting for Willard.
Every time I see “Willard” used I immediately think of the Carmen Miranda fruit hat of Willard on the old, old Today show. Wonder how the modern day Willard would look in that hat.
Could be a head fake by the too-fit presidential candidate.
Thanks BT.
I wouldn’t be surprised if McCain picked a woman for VP
Austin Goolsbee (Obama economic advisor) will be on CNBC shortly. I’ll give a heads up when he actually comes on.
Sebelius, Reed, Dodd, Clark. Any of those and he might get my vote. Perhaps even Napolitano or McCaskill.
Pros of Sebelius and Clark are that Kathleen’s Lt. Gov. is a dem and Clark isn’t giving up anything needing replacement. Dodd and Reed are both from states with rethug governors.
Bayh, Kaine, any other DLCer and buh bye.
Kaign would also be ok but I still would prefer Webb even though he has denied candidacy
Ron Suskind on C-span – another plank to build GWB’s coffin. To bad we don’t have any carpenters
nuh uh. Kaine has bad positions on choice, war, gays, etc. Matt has the rundown.
Webb isn’t who we thought he’d be (sort of like Obama) and though he’s landed a few good shots against W. his voting record isn’t at all progressive.
who wants to be a carpenter? They get crucified—an analogy that fits in today’s political world.
Goolsbee up on CNBC.
That would be “it’s all campaign rhetoric” Austin Goolsbee?
VP? Anyone but Evan Bayh. No maybe Wes Clark.
Good Morning Blue Texan and Firedogs,
Chet Edwards name has popped up just this week – and me no likey
based on Obama’s post primary choreography, Edwards is right up his alley – ‘moderate’, economist, no veteran but extremely well versed in military affairs – oh, and he represents Crawford
y’all know I am for Sibelius, but have thought all along BO would pick ’slightly older white guy’ to reassure so called moderates and dissatisfied Republics
A little OT, but sort of election related..
I didn’t know this? (also some interesting background on Richard Armitage)
p.s. ‘From the Wilderness’ is a really good site, lots of dots and stuff..
FTW 1/24/01 – ‘HR 19, Introduced by Republican Georgia Congressman Bob Barr on January 3, 2001, the first day of the new 107th Congress, would legislatively repeal sections of three Executive Orders specifically prohibiting assassinations by the United States Government.’

Interviewers of Goolsbee attacked him in an incoherent way and he responded incoherently. Sounded like he wasn’t quite on top of his game in terms of how stimulus works or doesn’t, oil company profits & windfalls & tax breaks. When I did the TV appearances (and granted I was never in the adversarial position that Goolsbee is in vis-a-vis business media), I was unassailable on the facts. If Goolsbee is going to continue on air, he needs to get up to speed. I was not impressed.
I work in Elkhart and was hoping to get tickets to see him today, but the line formed at 6:00 a.m. (and this is Indiana!?!?).
I really pray that he won’t pick Bayh as his veep. He’s my senator and I’ve refuse to vote for him for years. Lately I’ve typically voted a straight Democratic ticket, but then gone back and changed my Bayh vote to the Libertarian (since we don’t typically have any other choices on our ballot besides Libertarian and
fascister… I mean Republican.Maybe he’ll pick Don Siegelman as his running mate ;-) It would sure be better than Evan “Republican” Bayh.
I think we need to have some sort of reverse affirmative action for people from Texas especially Crawford. (Just kidding)
retraining and rehabilitation like they do in China?
Carly’s into illegal wiretaps.
McCain’s VP choice:
Miss Buffalo Chip!
Gotta teach ‘em how to read first.
OfT, but I got an email from the AccountabilityNow Pac. I was a little disappointed in the number of pledges so far. I thought 500 FDLers from every state was a reasonable goal. We’re far, far below that.
So who do you think it’s gonna be? Sebelius? Clark? Kaine? Reed?
Well, Hilton. Of course.
I hope Obama chooses Sebelius. She’s certainly had administrative experience and she’s from Ohio. That could probably help there.
Ever since Obama campaign hired that woman from the HRC campaign… can’t remember her name…I have felt it would be someone from HRC’s camp. Obama was sitting with Wes Clark at Tim Russert’s funeral and they had their heads together for some time. I remember thinking Clark would be the guy. May be nothing…
My top picks for Veep that don’t have a snowball’s chance of being chosen.
Bernie Sanders (I – Vermont)
Dennis Kucinich (D – Ohio)
Barbara Lee (D – California)
Okay, my pick for someone who does have a chance:
Kathleen Sebelius (D – Kansas)
Good morning, Cbl
Kathleen Sebelius is Governor of Kansas. Is she originally from Ohio?
Yes, daughter of Governor Gilligan
She is also the posterchild for outsourcing
yes. from Wiki:
Sebelius is the daughter of former Ohio governor John J. Gilligan, and thus they became the first father/daughter governor pair in the United States after her election.
If you had,’t mentioned her, I would have remembered her name. She was fired by Clinton and there was a lot of whining from the Clinton camp when Obama hired her.
Gonzalez
She’s also had a record of converting lots of rethugs to leave the dark side. She’s catholic and though personally against abortion has stood up strong against the anti-choice folks both in word and deed. In Kansas, that’s big.
New Dave
y’all are speaking of Patty Solis-Doyle – fired because someone had to take the fall for Penn, Wolfson, and Lanny’s buffoonery
We have a BINGO
David’s upstairs
Some Hand-Holding For Conservatives In Their Identity Crisis
Heh! Good choices, the top three.
The hooters crowd?
I obviously am not an expert on Sebelius (didn’t know the Ohio connection) but I know some very progressive people in Kansas who seem quite pleased with her. And anyone who can win in a conservative “red” state as a progressive is on the right track.
Unlike Bayh who wins in a state that has gone for the Republican presidential candidate in every election but one since 1936. Bayh wins by being a Republican 9/10 of the time except when he’s exploring presidential waters then he’ll half-heartedly vote for a few progressive bills.
Thanks for the reminder! I just pledged.
Ooops! Replied to the wrong person. Thanks, BooRadley.
Hi, Sufilizard. I live in South Bend!
If it can’t be HRC, I really think it should be a woman.
I will go out on a limb and give *my* prediction for Obama’s choice…
… but first, for some context: Obama’s electoral college strategy is obvious. He needs to keep Kerry’s 252 votes and gain at least 18 more. Iowa is in the bag (7) and the brilliant selection of Denver as the convention site gives him a great chance at Colorado (9). That’s 16, so *any* additional state will suffice.
Now look at the polls. Obama has great chances in New Mexico, Nevada, and the northern tier of the West. Clearly, a Western strategy looks like a good bet. Is there a popular Western governor that can bring along one of these states, or more, and help balance the ticket?
Yes, and that’s why I predict Montana governor Brian Schweitzer will be our next Vice President. He’s funny, good with one-liners, and popular. He also speaks Arabic.
You read it here first. :-)
I think that’s a great call.
Wesley Clark would be a strong VP. Has much more military and foreign policy experience than McDunce. Also graduated first in his class at West Point and is a Rhodes Scholar. He wouldn’t tolerate any of McDunce’s crap concerning patriotism and experience!
Rev, Sebelius is DLC. Just thought you should know since you mentioned all those other folks as deal breakers and excluded her from the list. She is featured quite prominently on the DLC website as one of their rising stars.
