Hey, remember the late 90s when oral gratification in the White House was the worst thing ever?
Apparently, it is a sin greater than a war crime:
A new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.
Suskind writes in “The Way of the World,” to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery – adamantly denied by the White House – was designed to portray a false link between Hussein’s regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war…
“The White House had concocted a fake letter from Habbush to Saddam, backdated to July 1, 2001,” Suskind writes. “It said that 9/11 ringleader Mohammad Atta had actually trained for his mission in Iraq – thus showing, finally, that there was an operational link between Saddam and al Qaeda, something the Vice President’s Office had been pressing CIA to prove since 9/11 as a justification to invade Iraq. There is no link.”
Of course, this article is written by Mike Allen so it contains 80% White House push-back – uncritically.
And that will undoubtedly be the end of that as far as the media is concerned.
Just like:
- Bush wanting to fly fake "UN" planes over Iraq in hopes Saddam would shoot at them;
- Cheney having American soldiers shoot at other American soldiers dressed up like Iranian soldiers;
- Bush suggesting firing a cruise missile into Al Jazeera headquarters.
- And just recently, like the media has completely ignored how the Bush Administration (and McCain) pushed the idea that Al Qaeda or, even better, Iran was behind the Anthrax attacks.
A tip to Kevin Drum for remembering a couple of these items first.

I just made a note or two over at EW on the Suskind interview on NPR (catch it in the first hour).
Zed is dead, long live zed and the late lamented Consitution!
Morning, Attaturk. Thanks.
Never get tired of seeing that pic and its reminder of collusion and corruption.
There is no infrastructure for accountability, is there? Talk about neocon cells in all corners of our 3 branches of government and local government and military and media. If a sin is so massive people will fight not to see it. Eyes squeezed tight … or witch hunt the messengers.
It takes a certain level of moral and emotional strength to look into the face of psychopathology on such a collective, grand, profound scale. Group-think, desensitization. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
These control freaks obsessing about this for so long … the perfect storm of evil …. I just watched a video I had never seen about 9/11 and don’t want to embrace what it is saying… and keep saying.. if it were true… there would be more attention to it… even on the blogosphere … but as more and more fresh hells emerge… these guys seem capable of depravity that inspires massive “denial”. HUBRIS is not a big enough word.
Sorry for not being concise. Needing to process the horror from the video someone just sent me.

Have a nice day.
1,725 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen lillyliberal:
These monsters learned from the masters, the Third Reich was jest a test run …American fascism goez back to the unholy alliance between the New England democrats and the Southern slaveholders. The ideology that supported that system and allowed it to thrive within a federal system survives to this day in the States Rights and right wing libertarian movements and the families of the slaveocracy live on to this day in the oligarchy. John McCrazy goez back in Mississippi to on of the most powerful slaving families who rehabilitated after 1877 in the federal military (US Navy). The Bush family runs back to war profiteering with the Krupp family in WWI and Hitler in WWII. This is the reality of America today and it is deadly real and that’s why we can’t afford another Jimmi Carter or a “centerist” President who is willin’ to even consider Evelyn Bayh as VP.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITIO9N, THIS IS THE STRUGGLE WE WERE BORN TO…!!!
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Herbert today. Bobo asks “Where’s the Landslide?” and says Barack Obama’s ability to stand apart means that people on almost all sides of any issue can see parts of themselves reflected in his eyes. But it does make him hard to place. Mr. Herbert, in “The Winning Hand,” says that the fastest, cheapest, easiest and cleanest step toward a sane energy environment is the powerful combination of efficiency and conservation.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels with cream cheese today. Please keep your fingers crossed for Jim Martin in today’s run-off to see who goes up against the odious Saxby Chambliss in November. Have a great day.
Thanks for pointing this out. This process is a big part of how the game works. They can say they reported on something like this, thereby saying they’re “balanced,” yet discredit the facts with incredible amounts Repube spin within the same article.
Politico is an attempt by BigMedia to extend their message controlling into the blogosphere, and they’ve been succeeding despite huge mistakes by Politico right out of the gates. People are treating them as a legit news operation, which they’re not. I wish blogs would tell you when a link goes to them so I can stop giving them hits (TPM).
Ron Suskind has really proven to be one of the most important journalists of today. We need to support his efforts.
Did y’all see this?
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpoi…..erlick.php
Looks like U.S. military sets up fake KFC in Falluja. Of course Pox Newz is first to promote story (no doubt Politico had one in the works) with extra spicy cheerleading, but a crazy Liberal blogger decides to follow up. KFC corp says WTF, and knows nothing about it.
Surely, Pox will do a follow up and set the record straight now (hiccup…where’s me whiskey?)
Norske @4
Thanks for the validation … it is deadly real and deadly surreal … And we keep collecting our lists of indecencies and examples of death and destruction of this administration and they go on and on with their ”poisonous pedagoguey” as Alice Miller calls it. And, like with Abu Graihb, the capacity for evil and depravity escalates. What is that called, the Lucifer Effect.
And so many are holding their breath, giving these monsters as you say even more time. What do we think? They will not do more damage as we tiptoe on egg shells till January? And let’s get a Dem. President willing to sacrifice the soul of the progressive party because the point is about winning, right? So what will it profit us if we have compromised ourselves into one more power-driven patriarchy that threw its advocates with soul under the bus getting to the big goal. We’ll exercise integrity once we get there some even promise, but after all, we have to get there first. What a recipe for corruption is that?
We gotta be the change as Gandhi said.
I remember hearing about when the King of Denmark put the Jewish armband on his upper arm and invited all Danes to do that to rally against the Nazi threat. What an enlightened leader he was.
I heard about that temp wordprocessor out in Cal. that discovered at work through confidential documents that Diebold naughtily affected 40,000 votes in Calif. in 2004 after registering its machine with Sec. of State. And Diebold wrote a fat check and slipped away. And the guy got 3 felony counts thrown at him, 1 was susained, and fined $10,000 and is now out on probation. Steve Heller. He said he would do it again, and it was the right and honorable thing to do. These savages exploit the law to punish the honorable.
America… I feel like I am in a burning building and the main populace is watching pop tv after having put the a/c on to counteract the heat.
The Gliewitz Incident, the fabricated attack on a German Radio Station by alleged polish saboteurs. This incident was orchestrated by the Nazi’s to justify the illegal invasion of Poland; “The Blitzkrieg” The world learned of this nazi fabrication from War Crimes Trial’s affidavits.
“Fascist Bastards” are in the White House! Their goal is to preserve the status quo oil delivery system, a cash cow, at all cost. Lots of Liberty transfered to the tune of 700 billion Dollars a Year, by corpo middlemen to oildoms throughout the world? “Liberty and “Common Sense….” not!
Pelosi is still looking for a crime, maybe Suskind can find one, or two, for her.

RNC PravdaThe AP does it again:Well-heeled serenade Obama on his 47th birthday
Unlike, say, the homeless AIDS victims who helped McCain and Bush celebrate theirs.
nomolos @10
Kucinich was so very gentle but dear explaining that he had a list for her when he was interviewed on Democracy Now. Pelosi … does she think she can get the House to all play nice? Meanwhile letting Kucinich and Wexler twist in the wind? Not to mention the rest of America. Nancy knew about waterboarding, is that it? Or does Bushco simply have so much wiretapping info they can nail ANYONE in America, especially the Congress? Or is it just about money eclipsing integrity?
The inmates have so taken over this asylum. Corporations are legal person with psychopathic profiles. Blackwater may go international as a military security force. Wow.. … there is another recipe for disaster, eh? And they will be heavily funded to help fight the drug war and for immigration control Big bucks in torture and prisons I am sure.
The Hague is going after Texas, though, for execution of Mexican immigrants without due process. Maybe we can appeal to the Hague or UN? There is a gentleman with a column of vertebrae at the Hague. Hurray!!!
I used to marvel at Bradbury over Fahrenheit 451, Heller with Catch 22, Paddy Chaevksy with Network, Vonnegut Slaughterhouse Five … where did these guys come up with these wild and crazy ideas for a plot and theme? So it goes. SNAFU….
Pelosi is either:
1/ Blind
2/ Stupid
3/ Crooked
4/ Being Blackmailed
5/ All of the above
What she is not is a rational, thinking human being.
Not quite sure about your reference to Bayh–he voted for eviscerating the Fourth Amendment, among other things.
The Bush family aren’t the only ones who are still clinging to eugenics–the Pioneer Fund is a financial backer of sociopaths who are trying to “prove” superiority among the white race.
I had no idea and could have never expected the republicans would be on board with the insane criminal actions of this administration once they found out, I actually thought they would be the ones to march into his office and tell him he must resign
it is therefore dumbfounding to me that the democrats are on board and I will never ever trust any of our politicians who are not on board kucinich’s articles of impeachment
my party are accomplices to the murder and war crimes of this president, pelosi should stand trial right beside bush
Wanted to add–the Pioneer Fund dates back to the Nazis–they helped distribute materials promoting the Nazi idea of eugenics.
fixed it for you.
Morning all.
It’s strange how, seven years into this nightmare, none of this surprises us. I recall my growing unease right after the election when it looked like the administration was first trying to pick a fight with China over the jet that went down over Hainan, and then the repudiation of the arms control agreement and the decision to go ahead with Star Wars. For me the breaking point was fall, 2002, when the State Department released its new policy of ‘preventive’ warfare. I do history for a living, and I saw immediately that we were pursuing the same self-destructive road as the Germans in the early 20th century. From there on in, it was downhill all the way.
It is horrible to contemplate what these criminals have done to the reputation of our country, not to mention the lives of countless hundreds of thousands of innocent people abroad. I do not hope for any retribution falling on them as individuals. The retribution will fall on all of us. In the very long run, assuning there is one, they will get their due from the historians. It’s a tragedy of the first magnitude.
As evidence that corporate media have accepted Politico as one of them, Politico regularly has a seat on Washington Week, the bastion of Beltway Conventional Wisdom. I’ve never seen TPM represented on WW.
Citizen boogiecheck:
We can’t afford a President who would endorse someone like Bayh as VP…we can NOT afford another Jimmi Carter. I’m still holdin out hope that he will surprise us with Al Gore or Howard Dean but if he brings Bayh forward I will not vote for ‘im…all my little money and energy will go ta progressive candidates at the local level.
I see the thread below RE: Bayh’s possible VP–now I get what Norske is saying. oy. It’s interesting that Bayh was promoting Hillary…opportunistic of him to now be in Obama’s camp…
He’s not as well-liked in Indiana as the press may say–among State employees, he’s mud. He froze wages for three years while he was Governor. They refer to him and his wife as “Barbie and Ken” because of their plastic personalities.
cross-posted–you’re right on the money. Bayh is NO progressive and Obama lost my vote with eviscerating the Fourth Amendment.
obama is actually trying to win “the base” of the republican party, he actually doesn’t understand they can’t be won
and in the process he has alienated people like you and me
he is doing exactly what it takes to lose and to be clear, I am not that much more afraid of a mccain presidency then I am an obama presidency, obama has proven he is a corporatist
a corporatist using the guise of our party is going to get much more through then a corporatist using the republican party as their guise
I just don’t care right now if obama loses
I thought you were going to give up being a concern troll.
???
Started by Allen and pool boy how could have been anything objective? We knew going in it would be yet another rethug mouthpiece, yet even we keep quoting them. They need to be ridiculed—repeatedly or ignored.
good point, sorry, will bite my tongue in the future
Norske,
You’re starting to sound like me! He lost me at FISA for sure but I left the door open a crack. The choice of either Bayh or Kaine slams that door shut. Hard.
Perris, I don’t think he’s a progressive at ALL. I don’t think it’s a political ploy with his sudden change…
He’s accepted millions from the Communications corporations, he’s accepted over 300,000 from Defense contractors, he’s accepted over a million dollars from the Banking Industry, which, if you do some research, you’ll find that this financial mess we’re in right now has been coming for twenty years –and the parties responsible are the Financial Institutions and Congress.
They came knocking, and Congress rolled over and took away all the safeguards that were put in place after the Crash.
My goodness. Where are all the Obama enthusiasts who used to populate this site?
Ken Silverstein on democracynow talking about how advisors to both D & R candidates have business ties with China.
The hot air balloons they were riding have started to pop and they are coasting back to earth—some not so much coasting as crashing.
shocked, I’m shocked, I tell you.
An important point: since their business ties are not with lobbiests, they don’t have to be disclosed. WANS (we are not surprised).
democracynow: Chevron destruction of rain forest in Ecuador.
Obama has never been other than a corporatist. It’s been there all along for all to see. Neither party is going to field a candidate who isn’t. As Norske, myself and a few others have repeatedly said, we live in a corporate state fast becoming a corporate fascist state. Edwards never stood a chance because corporate money was never going to help him get off the ground. It’s why you rarely see me comment on Obama. I know that we’re going to have a corporate president. I want a progressive Congress to offset that person and the corporate agenda. There’s not a lot I can do to influence a presidential election. There’s a lot I can do in local and congressional races and that’s where I put my energy.
Oh, my goodness, Obama was consulted by Ecuador & is on record against Chevron. We shall watch how this works out.
yep. It has been said before and will be said again.
Whereas I used to scream about how important the Supreme Court is and why we have to vote dem, I’m slowly beginning to believe that we will get more pressure from the dem caucus against a bad rethug nominee than we will a bad dem nominee. That REALLY saddens me.
They should just rename the OVP as the Office of Unintended Consequences:
I gotcha.
The thing is, with all the doublespeak, it’s hard to know for sure who is true to what they’re spouting and who is not…ala Nancy Pelosi.
And…once they get to DC, there is all that money floating around…
Jon Voight telling us he is against Obama….now do we really care? Says we should be really concerned about this man, no experience, way he grew up. Who the hell is he?
I am also sick to my bones about voting for Ds just beause they’re not as bad as Rs. When I raised this with the snits at the Obama booth at Netroots Nation, their sarcastic response was: So what’s your choice?
In all the excitement of having the first female Speaker of the House folks seemed to forget or ignore Pelosi’s background. I, for one, don’t expect someone whose wealth came from corporate means to be loyal to anything other than the source(s) of that wealth. Washington does indeed change people. Money, and the things it will buy, has a very intoxicating aura. Until all the fish are gone, the soil has become infertile and the last tree has vanished does one realize that you can’t eat it.
That’s part of the problem. They have taken us all for granted because they could. Obviously they haven’t been paying attention—that or they truly don’t care.
I didn’t go to NN because I couldn’t get on the bandwagon and didn’t want to spend 5 days talking about it over and over again. Next year I am going. I’ve said before—either we will be pleasantly surprised and have things to celebrate, or we will be on the warpath. I’d prefer the former, but I’m ready for the latter.
When I said that the Rs don’t treat their base with contempt, their response was: yes they do. I have to agree. The Rs play lip service to the base, but then largely ignore them except for a few hot button issues. Raising the age-old question of whether lip service is better than no service at all. The lefty base doesnt even get lip service.
Obviously the administration can do just about any damned thing they please, but in reality, or by law at least, I don’t think they can “order” the CIA to do anything. Can they?
Um, Tenet, who’s anus was quite enlarged by the many times he bent over for W, didn’t need to be ordered.
That’s exactly what they’re counting on…that we’ll just get in line because there is no other *line* to stand in…
The line I’m in is ignoring the top part of the ballot completely and only focusing on the local elections. They can kiss my liberal—and proud of it—*ss.
Ahhh…yes…the Cree Proverb…
I think we’ll be on the warpath until at least 2012. Unless, and until, we get a Congress that will shake off the corporate shackles, regulate the shit out of them to the point they break up, forming an economy based on small businesses and individuals. As long as Wall Street controls the economy we’re in for more of the same, only worse.
That’s what I told Obama’s folks.
But I’m thinking of having a little fun. As I get a free protest vote in NYS, voting for Bob Barr would make a nice cocktail party conversation provocation. I’ve tried it out on a few folks and get a startle response.
The Native Americans had it right. Still do.
…and that’s where I feel the most useless…I could at least feel that I was doing some good by electing a progressive President. Trying to get a progressive elected where I’m at is pretty much hopeless.
(believe me, I tried to “escape” once…)
Yep, yep, yep…
(btw, I did get a book related to Crazy Horse…I don’t think it was the one you recommended, though…)
I tell people I’m voting for the Socialist. I can see their BP rise 20 points.
Crazy Horse A Lakota Life, I forget the author’s name. May go check it out and read it again.
Crazy Horse

Thanks.
I have been feeling so overwhelmed and consumed with anger and helplessness with this story and all the other shit that Bush has gotten away with, but stumbled across this video. Man, it makes me smile. Don’t give up. We come from pretty good stock, these folks did us proud, and there are lots more out there just like them. Many of them right here at FDL and the other progressive blogs. Makes me want to kick some asses in, too:

There a innumerable problems facing our country in the coming years. The bringing to justice of those responsible for the deaths and injuries to s many people both American and others and the shredding of the Constituition must be included. And it;s the reason that the Republicans are about to go nuclear in this election campaign. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008…..heney.html
New poll out
Oh, and the article says he’s also losing support among African Americans and latino/as. Who’s left?
Last one out turn off the lights.
He had better start listening to the progressives again. Remember what happened with Ned.
