Hi, Teddy. I said the other day that I thought the McC staff had given up and it seems they have. How awful – teehee.

Y’know, I am happy to see any Villager come into the light on McCain’s dishonor, but it’s just ridiculous to write the way he did about the campaign. The anonymous quote could very easily have been left out, and readers could still get the point that it was a bunker at McCain HQ.

I don’t think we need to welcome them with open arms just because they are realizing McCain is screwing up; standards of journamalizm still apply.

While it seems that the McCain team is on the verge of suicide, the polls are not completely reassuring for the Obama camp. It seems that a lot of “low information” or just plain “could never vote for a Black” voters could put Johnny in the White House in spite of his shockingly poor campaign.

On the other hand, after reading Ian’s incredibly depressing post last night (A Vicious Downward Spiral, or How This Economy Is Going To Play Out: Revisited) I wonder if we want a Democrat in the WH when the shit hits the fan. If Ian’s predictions come to pass, the next President will probably be lucky to survive (politically) a single term.

Seems like we’re screwed no matter who “wins” the election.

That poll Matier and Ross published in The Chronicle showing Sen. Dianne Feinstein beating out all the other Democrats hands down in the governor’s primary for 2010 is driving all the other wannabe candidates crazy, especially Attorney General Jerry Brown.

I know Dianne has talked to at least one person about the governor’s race. But she will never say so publicly, because if it got out that she was even “looking” at a possible run for governor, it would be the same as saying that she’s in.

But trust me, Dianne needs to be assured she is going to win before she runs for anything. There is no way at this stage of her life that she would risk a loss.

If she does get in, it’s over, at least on the Democratic side. Everybody, and I mean everybody, else steps out.

That would mean Jerry Brown would stay on as attorney general – which means that San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, who has been thinking of running for AG, would probably run for mayor instead.

As for Gavin Newsom, he would immediately defer to Dianne and hope that she appoints him as her replacement in the Senate.

In fact, Gavin should call and offer to be Dianne’s campaign chairman if she runs.

And he should make that call today, before anyone else beats him to it.

I’m not sure that we want to fire up the pissed off, aggrieved elderly vote. After all, they’ve got nothing better to do on a Tuesday. But honey, I love your Mamma.

As his attacks on Obama get worse and worse and the nattering nabobs are documenting the campaign’s final feiry meltdown he suddenly, very publicly roars back to life, fires all his advisers and announces that he, the real John “Maverick” McCain, is back.

No more handlers, no more negative ads, now it’s all the real deal John McCain that everyone once knew and loved. He’ll apologize for what Schmidt and Davis made him do against his better judgement and vow to be a better person, heaping praise and admiration on Obama. And the nabobs will natter about his character and maverickness and isn’t that just like McCain he’s such an honorable guy, we knew it all along.

That’s my nightmare scenario.

I’m going to raise a contrary possibility-among the bikers I know, there is a strong disaffected vet constituency…a lot of nam vets who will embrace McCain, as well as an awful lot of pro-God, pro-gun, hard-ass Republicans…and they may treat McCain like a rock star. This may indeed be a stupid move on the part of his campaign; but it may also be brilliant. A daring move, either way. Politically, this is risky for McCain, but it could also have a real payoff for him.
Interesting to watch, for sure.

But I think Obama needs to start telling folks the bad news now. And he needs to point his finger at the culprits. This sort of negativity will be bad for him in the short run politically, but in the long term will serve him well if he is elected. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better, no matter who is elected. He should be honest now (and be sure to blame the crooks and liars who have screwed us all.) Not an easy assignment, but if he’s not up to it, maybe he shouldn’t get the job?

More and more I am beginning to think that John McCain is either senile or insane. Now his Moses ad is spreading the idea that John is hinting that Obama is the anti-Christ. As far as I am concerned, if we get McCain in with his unstable way of thinking who knows what will happen. It cannot be good. The United States is in the second inning of a recession that will last for at least 18 months and help kill off hundreds of banks, influential economist and New York University Professor Nouriel Roubini told Barron’s in Sunday’s edition.

Taxpayers will pay a big price for helping bail out the rest of the financial services industry as well, Roubini said — at least $1 trillion and more likely $2 trillion.

The banks will become insolvent because of mounting losses as a result of the housing bust and because they have only written down their subprime loans so far, he said. Still in front of them are their consumer-credit losses, for which they lack the reserves, Barron’s reported.

I’ve been thinking about Sebelius a lot today in the context of the state of the McCain campaign and its negative tack. Going negative on her simply would explode in his face -more than anyone I can imagine. Otoh, take someone like Biden or Clark, even Hillary, and the negative attacks would be more syntonic with their personalities. Per the inferences in the original post up top, without the negative, the fake it til you make it McCain doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
