Ron and I went to the Sac animal shelter and got that little doggie today. She is being spayed and we will pick her up tomorrow afternoon. Her name is Ariel but we already have an Ariel. Since she is only 10 months old we are going to change her name. So, I was wondering if you guys would help us pick one. I like regular names for the critters that live with me.
So far I have had Tommy, Clover, Phylis, Vivian, Scout, Flash, Roosevelt, Zoe, Harley, Julie, Ariel, Wally, Ben and Ted.

This little doggie was given up because she had terrible separation anxiety and chewed up stuff. I was thinking about naming her Pica but Ron hated it.

So there is definitely hope.

Called the insurance company and explained that they were clueless on how to handle things and what to do with all the checks they are receiving….. the local agent went over to their place and wrote out what they need to do and explained it all……

I was visiting my parents recently and saw a letter my dad had written to the insurance company. It said that they still owed him $45,000 dollars and he was 82 and wanted the money soon, before he died. He does have a sense of humor.

A presidential pardon of a public official relative to any offense can be nullified by impeaching and convicting that official for that offense, which can be done after that official has left office.

The question of post-term impeachment is covered in “Bush Legacy: Presidents Can Be Impeached After They Leave Office” by Jon Ponder, Pensito Review, Jan. 15, 2008, which cites two sources:

* The Wikipedia’s entry on “impeachment”:

It is possible to impeach someone even after the accused has vacated their office in order to disqualify the person from future office or from certain emoluments of their prior office (such as a pension).

* Section 9 of A CITIZEN’S GUIDE TO IMPEACHMENT by Alan Hirsch, Esq.:

Does it sound farfetched for Congress to impeach and try someone who is no longer in office? It has happened! In 1876, Secretary of War General William Belknap [who served in the scandal-plagued Republican administration of Pres. Ulysses Grant], accused of accepting a bribe, resigned just hours before the House was scheduled to consider articles of impeachment. The House went ahead and unanimously impeached him, and by a vote of 37-29 the Senate rejected the argument that Belknap’s resignation should abort the case. The Senate proceeded with the trial, but Belknap was narrowly acquitted. Judgement in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgement and punishment, according to law. [Emphasis added]

* Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1:

[The President] shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment. [Ephasis added.]

Per Article 1, Section 3, Clause 7, if someone is convicted in a case of impeachment, that party becomes “subject to indictment, trial, judgement and punishment,” which could not happen if the person (still) had a valid pardon. Ergo, any prior pardon for the offenses in question gets nullified by that conviction.

Note that the operative word here is “shall” rather than “may”, which would have been sufficient to dismiss claims of “double jeopardy.”

Moreover, Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1 specifically excludes cases of impeachment from the President’s power of pardon.

I always read Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1 as meaning that the President couldn’t grant pardons or reprieves to people for impeachments. In other words, if Congress hands out an impeachment, the President can’t undo it.

Mine’s just a “plain English” reading of the words. The “except in cases of impeachment” seems to refer to “offenses against the United States” (sorry, modern spelling and capitalization). The only thing I that I think makes that debatable is that they could have written “except for impeachments” to mean that same thing, so there might be another meaning that lawyers could grok and I don’t see.

Even if a person is pardoned, they are still required to testify as to the truth in ANY proceeding they are called to under penalty of purjury…that’s why it’s important for the House and Senate ta get the grand jury transcripts and put Libby before the Judiciary committees ta get the goods on Darth Cheney and the Clusterfuck.
