The Time’s Jeff Zeleny joins beltway chanting on how “presumptuous” Obama was in getting al Maliki’s approval for withdrawing troops, forcing McCain/Bush to recognize Afghanistan, being cheered by 200,000 Berliners and warmly embraced by Sarkozy and Brown.
Zeleny cites nothing remotely presumptious said by Obama, but apparently that’s irrelevant.
Frank Rich, on the other hand, explains that with Bush a lame duck and McCain an intemperate, incoherent whiner, power is surging to Obama, the world logically concluding he’s likely our next President. Unlike Zeleny et al, our allies aren’t confused by this, and they’re fine with it.

sour grapes??
Scared shitless.
i’ve been taking a break from the M$M and reading this kind of stupidity makes me glad i missed it.
thanks for reading it scarecrow, so i don’t have to.
I’m surprised we still have allies.
Morning Scarecrow!
The Time’s Jeff Zeleny joins beltway chanting on how “presumptuous” Obama was
Its amazing how all the MSM all have the same thought that Obama was ”Presumptuous ” at the same time. Its amazing how they all independently chose that safe racially neutral word…when Uppity is so much easier to spell.
The MSM is aware that after decades of Reagen, Lee Atwater, Newt and Karl Rove that the voters are starting to pick up on some of these racial code words right?
Unless the MSM like geeks in grade school are still carrying around their secret decoder rings thinking nobody notices, or that we still care what they have to say, outside of the laugh value of course.
Thanks for the summary of Hedges’ book in the previous thread. You and eCAHN have convinced me I need to read it.
Let’s pick on Sardonicus some more.
The MSM forgot Obama pushing Bush to go after Ossama in Pakistan!
and warmly embraced by Sarkozy and Brown.
Hmmm maybe we were wrong about Chancellor Angela Merkel not liking that massage she got from Bush?
cspan junkie has the interview with Hedges up all ready
Chris Hedges ‘Collateral Damage’
You’re back…..welcome home! How long will ya be in the western end of the state?
the MSM has forgotten about Osama bin Ladin completely
My audio card ate it last week so I’m soundless. Want to wait until after the FEC filing period for the primary is over to have it replaced in case the computer folks trash my machine. Got external backup files but would rather wait.
I’m surprised we still have allies.
Allies-in-waiting.
Demand for American flags is up, but on hold until after November for final specification as to whether the order is for regular or extra-flammable.
You know, the McBushlicants are beginning to get on my nerves. What the hell is a presumptive president supposed to do, may one ask? Wait until January 21 and then begin the howdy-doo stuff with the international community? It’s an absolute certainty that if Obama were sticking to the good old USofA right now, he’d be pilloried for that.
Advice for McBush. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to stop shootin’ off your Peter Lorre mouth about Obama’s egregiosity and start sayin’ what you know, think, intend to do. Oh, wait. Now I get it! You can’t.
(remembers her manners) Morning, Scarecrow, pups.
Not nice to insult Peter Lorre like that.
in getting al Maliki’s approval for withdrawing troops,
I’m sure that al Maliki had his reason’s
BAGHDAD, July 27 — The U.S. military acknowledged Sunday that American soldiers killed three “law abiding” Iraqi civilians last month as the Iraqis traveled to their jobs at the Baghdad airport. The military had initially said the soldiers acted in self-defense after being fired upon by “criminals.”
Last month, a U.S. military operation near Karbala resulted in the death of a man identified by some officials as a cousin of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and by others as a close associate of his. U.S. officials said troops acted in self-defense, but the incident sparked widespread anger among Iraqi officials.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..=sec-world
You would think the MSM could connect the dots and figure out that shooting our puppet leader’s relatives is a bad thing.
Obama didn’t convince Maliki to endorse his plan Bush’s neglect of Iraq forced him to endorse Obama.
Good then the voters will not be wore out about hearing about Ossama in the fall we need to bring this up.
Every solder in Iraq is one less solder looking for Ossama.
The Irak Genocide is harmful to mental health. Our troops suffer PTSD so severe it actually causes brain damage. The Neo-con “Change You Deserve” and Effexor is not enough to make them healthy. Presumptiously, I presume the people of Irak may not be enjoying this Neo-con genocide either.
Obama pointed out that he visited with leaders that McCain visited with on his recent trip…guess JohnnyMac forgot he did that. Or he’s angry that he didn’t bring up anything, you know, productive….
Obi will be picked on no matter what he does by these jerks. They see it as their duty to destroy his chances. If he does black – they say white. If he does white they say black. This is so predictable and boring.
Anyone can see he’s way smarter than Bush or McCain and that alone makes him a better choice regardless of his centrist positions. He seems to be able to think straight.
Somehow, Obama seemed more comfortable and less out of place in meeting with world leaders and addressing a massive audience than McCane did trying to walk down a grocery store aisle without knocking off the canned goods.
Maybe we need to print up some bumper stickers that say, “Damned if you do and damned if you don’t!” :-(
I have no problem with your priorities – first scream at the thugs, *then* pup politeness. *g*
…or than I did trying to type McCain.
Isn’t that who he sounds like? I know I have bias, but I swear McBush’s voice totally creeps me out.
Thanks for the link, Frank33. I highly recommend everyone read this article.
Did Zeleny miss that Malaki gave the Der Spiegel interview before Obama visited Iraq? The word “presumptuous” is so pervasive in the stagnant steno pool that without looking I guarantee it’s source is Luntz via the Rovian spinners.
See? It’s that short-term memory loss thingie.
At least a few folks have reminded Mc that he was one who suggested the Ob trip; looks like he did forget that.
Damn straight! (I meant that lovingly, of course.)
oo sorry to hear about your audio card, would perish without the audio, I use my computer for music, too.
I don’t think so. Lorre had a very distinctive voice, McSFB’s is just kind of grating.
My friends, he is a low talker.
Drtives me nuts, too
good one, I’ll have to use that
No, no, no. When he’s trying to sound reined in and sincere, his voice takes on Maltese Falcon tone. “My friends, I just forgot what I was going to say, but I’m pretty sure it was something derogatory about Barack Obama, heh, heh, heh.”
I’m not overconfident about beating the Republicans, but:
This campaign keeps reminding me of Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. The “presumptuous” gambit, the “not seeing the wounded” bit, and the “love of the press for Obama” whine all seem like ACME devices strapped to the back of Wile E. Coyote.
Maybe Obama should ask the MSM if it would be Presumptious of him to demand that the MSM Police their own and Demand that Judy Miller turn in her Pulitzer Prize for stories about WMD that were all wrong.
Then he could ask the MSM if any of their Presumptious Predictions of Victory in Iraq, WMD, Iraqi ties to al Quieda,Friedman units have ever been right?
Then lets expand that to Bush and the MSM’s Presumptious Predictions about Economics and paying for the war with tax cuts and how Bush is great for the economy!
We are in this war because the MSM sold it to us maybe they should pay a special war tax? All proceeds raised could go to pay for Vets Healthcare lets watch the MSM argue against that!
George Will and Bob Novack will argue against it and say the Democrats are playing politics…which is what I want them to do early and often on National TV.
I want them to defend their prewar predictions, I want them to defend their tax cuts against the need of our solders.
Good morning,
What was Obama “presumptious” about – that he can function on the world stage. It is more than obvious that he can
The repubs are desperately throwing the dictionary at Obama word by word in the hopes that something sticks. Elitist, as McCain rides around in his wifes jet and drops a mere $750K in a month on her cc., Arrogant – Maybe we should ask Vincente Fox about that. Doesn’t “understand” McCain has experience (even though he can’t remember what he has learned), articulate? ……. To quote Bill Clinton – “give me a break”
My CD player does mp3’s but I’ve got quite a music library on CD. I did manage to copy 8 hours of lectures onto 1 CD. That’s cool. Computer sound ain’t 75 watts per channel, either.
The “framing” that’s normally used bothers me…….seems it’s always expressed as bush 3.0 forcing Obama to go regardless of who’s doing the reminding (dim or conventional media).
There was a column about Obama in the Globe and Mail on saturday (from that weasel Rex Murphy) – the main criticism was that Obama was too confident.
Might as well have said uppity and been done with it. They want a presidential candidate who LACKS confidence?
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
The Chinese factories are waiting for the go ahead
My last Peter Lorre comment, honest. (crosses fingers)
Your “dictionary…word by word” concept is right on, FHM.
I hope Obama’s choice to campaign as though McBush doesn’t exist is a good one. Makes me nervous, though. PTSD. John Kerry. They’re totally different from each other, but the modus operandi is similar.
My big hope is that Jeff Blodgett (Obama’s MN chair and chair of Paul Wellstone’s campaigns) will have a big voice in how this all plays out. He’s a brilliant strategist and understands grassroots instinctively.
Oh yeh noun, verb surge
Real good angle the GOP is field testing buzz words to use against Obama.
But if people really are paying attention this election then surface buzz words won’t work like they use to.
The GOP doesn’t seem to understand that when people pay attention Ideas matter and when words don’t match ideas then ideas win, unless of course words feed a personal pet lie.
Like racism which unfortunately for the GOP has gone down allot since the 80’s.
they should be ashamed of themselves, but they aren’t.
I know I’m sick of being bullied by racists, I’m not the only one.
I think young people are paying attention beyond that be afraid of stupid people in large numbers.
they should be ashamed of themselves, but they aren’t.
They the MSM are not ashamed of themselves because they don’t think they are racist, they also think that they still matter and that they are the king makers which is what is killing them about Obama.
Obama still fills seats no matter what the press says, he got a bigger crowd than Bush and McCain in McCain’s home state, er sorry that was Michelle Obama getting the crowd. Laura must be so jealous.
Excellent.
Even stupid people have to buy gas. Its hard to see the GOP convince anyone that after invading an oil country that we are wining the war when gas prices are so high.
Just think about it $3 a gallon gas right now would be Great News for McCain thats how bad things are.
I’m surprised that Bush isn’t telling the oil companies to drop the price of gas now and opening up the strategic oil reserve. The election is in November Bush does not have much time to change voters minds about the economy.
Good Morning Scarecrow and Firedogs,
agree Things. and I think they are going to get sloppier and sloppier as their desperation deepens
p.s.- a linguistics friend convincingly pointed out some time back that McCain’s ‘lowtalking’ and diction is his hamfisted attempt to sound like Great White Father Reagan
But Obama doesn’t want to drill
Can everyone Digg this:
http://digg.com/politics/Trail….._Stone_s_W
It’s the trailer for the new Oliver Stone movie on GWB. It leads to the Campaign Silo.
well that’s an intriguing possibility. He does seem to be making a deliberate effort to control his speech, my friends (that creeps me out when he uses that phrase.)
So his ‘morontalking’ must be his attempt to sound like Chimperor Bush?
Even if the Price of gas goes down a dollar and the market goes up all Obama has to do is say that Bush’s base the Economic Elites is manipulating the market and that after the election no matter who wins the market will go down and gas will go up.
Because any such manipulation is not based on fundamentals but tricks like shorting the market etc and these tricks are not permanent.
This way if the market goes down Obama gets credit for being right and Bush’s base the Economic Elites gets the blame.
p.s.- a linguistics friend convincingly pointed out some time back that McCain’s ‘lowtalking’ and diction is his hamfisted attempt to sound like Great White Father Reagan
That sounds real interesting I can’t remember Reagen that well to compare the two myself. Right it up in a diary when we get them I promise to read it.
No cocktails weenies for you . . .one year !
NYT
ruh roh,
well thank goodness, phewww!
done dugg! could be a great movie
Drilling now won’t lower the price before the election. Drill now is a buzz word, like invading Iraq meant it meant lower gas prices too.
But after years of waiting for the Promised cheap gas the voters are a little leery of more promises from the GOP.
Once your Word is nolonger believed your Cred is shot.
I always thought Peter Lorre was more low key/ laid back with a definite lower Bronx/Transylvanian accent.
I don’t know if it is great, though I am sure Stone paints W in an unflattering light. It’s good to bring attention to it though.
I still think he’s drugged up to keep the temper in check.
It appears that Petraeus has inserted hisself into the Withdrawal Timetable discussion, i.e., NO TIMETABLE.
My advice to the General is to shut the f**k up and wait for a bona fide CIC, who will be coming directly in January.
Oh definitely
too bad it wasn’t done about a year ago. John Dean points out that the only way impeachment went through on Nixon was because the rethugs finally got pissed off enough when they were shown proof that he was a lying sob that tarnished their brand. When this movie comes out it will be way too late for that. And even with a major changing of the guard, there will be no accountability and all those crooks will be lying in wait for their planted land mines to go off, one by one.
I hope you are right but I am very cynical about the mental capacity of many of the voters out there
OT Just heard another mental heavyweight on C-span – Obama’s crowds in Berlin were all Muslim
yeah, I know, I was surprised as well
LA Times
What leads you to think he cares ? Now or ever? Do you think $5 a gallon gas bothers him?
who is minding the MENSA store ?
things–i noticed a few months ago, in april, that his tone and diction were changing….and it definitely did……….like kathleen turner when she wanted to sound like lauren bacall…….voice coach.

FDL pups vs. Attack Dogs. Don’t. See. It. Alone. And have McCain et al had their heart worm pills to accompany their quieting meds?
Reagan had a radio announcer’s voice. It was resonant and he had fairly good diction. too bad his message was such crap.
McCain’s son resigns from boards of Henderson bank for “personal reasons”
http://www.lvrj.com/breaking_news/25941494.html
Threw this one out recently at the Lake but got no takers……has anyone seen anything further on the subject?
Those calls are the reason I finally got tired watching Washington Journal. It was getting depressing in light of Jeffersons’ statements regarding democracy being dependent on an educated and well informed electorate.
It’s likely to be depressing again this time, when the election becomes depent on the remaining “undecided voters.” It’s like trying to find a jury who know nothing about a “trial of the century.”
my 74 was to cbl2 at 54, not things at 60……..
and biff at 67–petraeus IS the cic right now, and mccain said it should be up to the commanders on the ground, that would be petraeus, so, gen p doesn’t want a timeline, the power would be out of his hands.
bbl
No but if he wants McCain to get elected I would put cheaper gas as much more likely to win the election than any Rove sound/hate bites.
Obama getting elected means a lot of top secret White House stuff gets declassified or the historians will have more than a few questions about the mysterious White House fire I expect after McCain loses.
(subliminal message: like Peter Lorre)
This is sounding funnier and funnier :)
Jeff Zelney:
Come-across journalism in the interrogative mode. Bleach!!
Does it seemed the training included instructions on when and how to smile? I particularly liked the one after his saying that Obama would rather lose a war than an election. What could the smile have meant, after that line?

McCain’s Cronies: Big Oil Money And A Big “Straight Talk” Fraud
Andrew McCain, son of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, on Saturday resigned from the boards of Silver State Bancorp of Henderson and Silver State Bank for “personal reasons,” the holding company said.
The senator’s son owned 1,226 Silver State shares of stock, according to the company’s latest report to the Securities and Exchange Commission. That investment was worth more than $1,500 on Friday when the Nasdaq stock market closed.
Shares in Silver State and other publicly owned bank holding companies in Southern Nevada have lost most of their value over the past year as they reported increasing numbers of problem loans.
Silver State closed at $1.28 on Nasdaq Friday, down 2 cents for the day, but off from a 52-week high of $24.10.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/25958074.html
I suspect that Henderson Bank is going under soon.
The Zeleny article is another example of the corporate media’s promotion of McCain’s candidacy. Since his campaign is sputtering along, they take out their hatchets and go after Obama.
i’m dead serious-i can remember the precise moment that it hit me-i was driving down back roads to pick up pots for the master gardener plant sale dig day, and i heard someone that ’kinda sounded’ like mccain—struck me as soooo strange, well, it was him…..on npr, thought something was up, maybe he was ill, maybe this maybe that, maybe one time thing, nope……as time has gone by, he hasn’t gone back to what he sounded like before that…..has gotten more measured, more even-toned, etc……i thought at the time that they were trying to take any trace of emotion out of his voice due to the press he had gotten right before then about his temper…….yep, that’s what i think they’re doin’……it is subliminal……
sounds like a psychotic serial killer, and now, i’m going to kill your children……all in measured non-tonal diction that makes it sound like he’s hosting an instructional video. here’s how i’m going to take over my country and you’re going to like it. looooooook intoooooooooo my eyeeeeeeeeeeees. dracula.
at the same time, they changed his body language and his wardrobe……at the time, i made jokes about the ’groomers’ on the bus or at the ’ranch’ coaching him and how he probably talked to them…….but, if he wants it badly enough, i guess he’ll do anything.
ok, gotta go, appt……

With every aware rational person in general agreement that our government is controlled by “Contributors” to our two “major” political parties, it appears somewhat naive to not imagine that these “Contributors” would not ensure the protection, from public outrage, aimed at the “Contriburors’” expensive vassals, as they plunder and distribute the Common Wealth to the “Contributors”.
In fact any plan to control a government’s decisions WITHOUT a media to protect the government, is a plan doomed to failure. So as the “wrestling” matches in our government are played out, we should never expect the dominant media to be an impartial referee of events.

I’ve always been amazed how people are “conditioned” by MSM to vote against their self interests, instead voting for the very interests usurping liberty!
Gas $ are high so lets drill our brains out and get more oil at higher $ because it costs more $ to extract and transport crude. Lets vote to keep the oil dealers (energy) in business while we continue to trade our “liberty” for technology lessening the restrictions of time and space?
Are we about “change” or do we only care about being winning? If we are solidly behind “change” are we going to stop the crass pettiness and take a higher road? Why can’t we be inspired by the example of the world trip that brought people together and learn how to do that with everything in our lives. It is time for CHANGE folks.
