Got hope? Are my own neighbors’ lives so bleak that they place their hopes in Barack Obama? Are they impressed by the cleverness of a political slogan that plays off a rather cheesy (sorry!) campaign to get people to drink milk?
As compared to the cleverness and depth of the average GOP bumper sticker Bill?
Bumper sticker whining, is that all he’s got?
Really getting your money’s worth now aren’t you New York Times?

Bill Kristol is hopeless…in more ways than one.
Since when have pumper-sticker slogans been considered deep statements of personal conviction? Stupid me, I thought they were just quick one-liners to show affiliation. I can’t wait to see McCain’s deep wisdom displayed, but nobody in my area of LA seems to have any on their cars yet.
GObama!
Anybody still awake enough to be thinking about the sh*t hitting the fan tomorrow about the “Edwards Affair?” Looks like a nice man turned himself into a Newt Gingrich-type schmuck. If true, (and it looks like it is) I’m truly disappointed. They rise, they fall…
I think they will go after everybody they are afraid of becoming vice president.
I perked up.
That was a disappointment. But disappointment was quickly replaced by the healthier emotion of annoyance.
I was cheered up by this notion.
But the next morning, as I drove around the Washington suburbs,
I relapsed into moroseness.
Hope restored my spirits.
Before they fell again.
I cheered up once again.
I drifted off into a pleasant daydream.
Life may be full of disappointments. But it’s also full of psychotropic drugs.
Har! That’s one way of dealing with it all, I guess. I wondered why he took himself out of running for Veep, maybe this was it, and not concern for the “little woman.” Everybody has feet of clay, but this is muck, not clay.
Bill Kristol is a wastebog of smirking nepotism. I’d like to see him weep for the weeks between the election and the inauguration, and then perhaps go tell his doctor he wants whatever Rush is having to cope.
Har! Maybe he’s still in the running and someone wants to try and end it for sure. Oh no that couldn’t be. What is the term for that again? Oh yeah swiftboating. Where have I heard that before?
please don’t respond to trollish ejaculations. it only encourages the rabble ……
Morning all :) Sorry OT, but back on the thread about the killing of Iraki civilians, someone was talking about the killing of the son of an Iraki journalist(?). Is this the same one or is this a different one?
‘KIRKUK, Iraq (AFP) – The son of a journalist at a popular weekly newspaper in northern Iraq was allegedly shot dead by US troops when his car appeared to veer wildly, local police said on Thursday.
American soldiers shot dead Arkan Ali al-Nuaimi, 19, on Wednesday evening as he approached a checkpoint in his car in the oil city of Kirkuk, a police official told AFP.’

Outing someone for shitty behavior is not swiftboating, in my opinion. I condemn bad behavior where it occurs – I just wish it didn’t make me feel so bad to have it be Edwards.
I will take your advice.
Oh pleaseee, if it is true? then it is a private matter between John, Elizabeth and the ‘other woman’ (all of whom are adults)..Sometime life happens..
What does it have to do with John’s day job?.
The French president for many years was accompanied by his mistress. Nobody cared as long as he did his job.. America has real issues and some serious repression going on..
Oh, AND Bill Kristol is a dick!!!!
sorry one of those days….
Oh yes, and he has a black child too.
What’s the story? I’m out of the loop.
An article in the efin NAtion Enquirer. WTF but I guess that is what constitutes the MSM these days.
Here is the piece of trash
Oh dear, another idol with feet of clay.
And for your further edification
NAtional Enquirer and Fox News… now there is some powerful truth.
Good morning, pups. It’s [retch] Kristol, Cohen and Krugman today. That putz Kristol excreted something he’s calling “Be Afraid. Please.” He whimpers that you really should be alarmed about a President Obama rubber-stamping the deeds of a Democratic Congress next year. Mr. Cohen’s column is titled “Bad in Berlin, Perfect in Paris,” and he says Barack Obama passed the critical commander in chief test in France, but got a bad case of cold-war blues in Germany. Mr. Krugman writes about “Another Temporary Fix,” and says the housing bill that passed in Congress last week is another attempt to fix the financial system without resolving its underlying flaws.

The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I’ve still got two days of vacation left, so I’m off to get a second cup of tea and maybe curl up with a book or maybe make some vanilla bean ice cream to have this evening. I could really get used to not going to work! Have a great day.

Last time I looked the guy isn’t running for anything.

Not my business.
Now if he was a moralist windbag , mmmmm
But then he would be a Republican, dump Elizabeth with enough money to cover expenses, marry the trollop and tell the world

Shorter,,, Not relevant, not news.
Caller on WJ sez global warming is due to abortions. Glad we’ve got that cleared up.
Another reason we need a woman president– men’s brains are in our you-know-what.
Say what?!? Was there any sort of explanation that went along with the assertion, or was it just a lunatic?
Weeelll, there’s that of course, but the main problem is that many of them think with the wrong head most of the time…
A lunatic. She had several other bizarre statements to make, and the host then thanked her for her call. I now watch WJ in large part as gallows humor event. They treat so many weird things as though they were serious.

Hey Elliott,
I also watched the Hedges interview and thought Brian Lamb’s Q were almost all wingnutty. Did you notice that? Thought Hedges treated them with courtsey. Another example of CSPAN treating weird stuff as serious.
C-Span is operated by the cable companies. And I’ve noticed Brian Lamb seems to lean right. I mean, that dour look he always has on his face gives him away right off the bat.
Callers sure do run the gamut from the forkin’ insane to the well-informed.
Watched the Hedges interview also but don’t quite understand your response to Elliott @ 32; clarify, please?
Almost all of Brian Lamb’s Qs were of the following nature: your critics would say so-and-so. What do you say? In other words, every Q implied that what Hedges had written was wrong. Examples include accusations of lack of patriotism, of exaggeration.
Thought that was where you were going but just wanted to be sure. Tks!
I was impressed with Hedges, thought he was straightforward and frank. Impressive CV. Was in Iraq before this war, spent 8 years in Gaza, covered Al Qaeda.
Here’s (sketchy) background info on him via the show.
and I was intrigued with his co-author’s background, her father was arrested after 9-11, here’s an article by her about her father from HuffPo
Bill Kristol was fine with the hope the PNAC would get their way when Georgie was picked by the SCOTUS in 2000. Now that Americans have hope that Barack Obama will bring our nation out of the PNAC darkness we’ve witnessed over the past eight years, he’s suddenly not getting it. Interesting…
…his kind of hope is destruction, illegal, and slimy. No wonder he can’t relate to us!
Do you agree with me?
I’m a big fan of Hedges (except for his book attacking athiests). His book on War Is A Force that Gives Us Meaning taught me why the majority loves war.
It’s Lamb I was complaining about.
This drivel is from the guy who wanted the American empire to rule the world? I hadn’t bothered to read any of Sardonicus’ op-eds for a long time and now I remember why. Maybe when The Weekly Neocon folds he’ll move to Tel Aviv and be a pain in the ass for the Likudniks.
Why does the majority love war?
thanks elliot, ecahn and all for the head’s up re hedges on q&a will catch it by podcast.
ecahn – also loved War Is A Force that Gives Us Meaning and agree wrt to his blind spot re atheists.
Here’s Chris Hedges from an FDL Book Salon last year
American Fascists
100%!
gives meaning to empty lives devoid of purpose and depth. (my take anyway). would recommend the book for his description of the difference between friends and comrades in arms alone.
lol!!
I popped into the conversation with Washington JOurnal lineup and Q&A, totally missing the chance to stomp on the Bloody Kristol, a man I love to hate.
Very funny. You want me to summarize a whole book in a couple of sentences.
Hedges goes thru the history of warfare, at least the western part. He’s incredibly well read, so he starts with the myths. It’s basically a way to separate us from them, an (the?) important way of creating group identity. Warriors are almost always heroes. It’s been a couple of years since I read the book, so I don’t have it on the tip of my brain anymore.
Since I hate war and have no need to feel like a member of a group, I found the book very enlightening. I need to understand intellectually how the majority feels since I have nothing in myself that would allow me to “get” it intuitively.
Neo-con Lobbyist Kristol is so sad that people think their lives are bleak. But Kristol and his Daddy Neo-con Kristol have given us the New World Order agenda-War and Globalization. That is bleak stuff. But, the “NWO” always steals what it cannot destroy. The Neo-cons slogan come from, appropriately, an anti-depressant medication. “Got War!”
“The Change You Deserve.”
Thanks. That was a pretty good summary in a couple sentences. *g* I’ll have to get a copy and read it. Unlike many vets I never felt the need to continue relationships once I got out of the service. That particular bond wasn’t the bond I sought.
Thanks to you as well, selise. Between the two of you I’m convinced I need to read this book.
Off to paint more of the garage before it gets hot.
Scarecrow’s upstairs
cspan junkie has the interview up all ready
Chris Hedges ‘Collateral Damage’
There’s a few more of Kristol the Klown’s new whines here. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008…..tions.html
His ‘neighbors’ are undoubtedly in the top 5% of incomes. Bleak? Not for them. For the rest of us, hell yes!
How this man “Kristol” can hold his head-up, day after day, year after year is puzzling? He’s been so wrong about the war, politics, and our society. JUST GO AWAY—-BILL.
A diarist @ the orange satan nailed it:
He’s high on Kristol Myth.
