There are a group of churches that do the holiday means and other charity events….. as a community Florence churches are going to throw a “shower” for them…… just like a wedding shower….. to help them replace their household goods…. What a way to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary…

nearly broke my heart to see my 86 yr old mother (around 5ft) hug my boyfriend who is 6′3″ …. clinking to him and nearly coming undone… they are hanging by a thread but I am starting things….. the church will have someone go over to “visit” Mom while Dad is at Habitat building their 13-16 houses ….. finally guilted my sister to get her butt up there…

Mom loves her dryease write board with all the info on what day it is, where Dad is and when he plans to be home AND his cell phone number….

Anyone have any idea who to make her understand that she can call him using the land line phone?….. somehow she has the idea that you can only call from cell to cell……

pick up a land line when she is there, call dad on his cell and hand her the phone.

China urges U.S. to stop supporting Dalai Lama in any form

BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) — Relevant people in the United States should stop supporting and conniving with the Dalai Lama and separatist forces for “Tibet independence,” the Foreign Ministry said here on Monday.

Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks when commenting on a report that Republican presidential candidate John McCain had met last Friday with the Dalai Lama, who was visiting the United States.

“China is seriously concerned about the report,” Liu said, noting the Tibet issue is China’s domestic affair.

China opposed the Dalai Lama conducting separatist activities in any country with any individual and opposed anyone making use of the Dalai Lama issue to interfere in China’s domestic affairs. The stance is persistent and clear, Liu said.

I most thoroughly agree. I’d like to assume that she sees things the way we do and is simply wanting to maintain the appearance of journalistic objectivity. But I now know better than to count on anything like that.

I got the same hit from her in the BookNotes piece on C-Span last weekend.

She went as far as to call Gonzales a “sniveling” AG, withering in the presence of Addington and company, but seemed detached from the criminality, laying their actions instead off to paranoia and fear of another attack, particularly Cheney’s penchant for uber-protection.

Author, Activist and Former California State Senator Tom Hayden talks in depth with the author of No Logo and The Shock Doctrine, Naomi Klein, about the state of the fourth branch of government: journalists. Both Hayden and Klein became serious journalists in college, and it was during that time that both experienced their defining moment. When Tom Hayden interviewed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr at the 1960 DNC in Los Angeles, he asked questions while imagining the headline, “Tom Hayden Interviews MLK,” but by the time he wrote the article he knew there were more important things in the world than personal glory. Naomi Klein rebelled from her liberal, feminist mother until Mark Lepine gunned down fourteen women in what became known as the Montreal Massacre. It was then she realized people were dying for the beliefs her mother fought for, and that realization awakened the activist within her.
