Modern journalism is concern trolling:
Obama has to be "careful." He mustn’t be too presumptuous. He has to scale back with the soaring rhetoric and the inspiration and the winning, you see. It’s decidedly unfair of him to run a decent campaign and soak up all the media attention at the expense of the guy who shows up at the German sausage restaurant on the same day as the Berlin speech.
People cannot get involved in politics, what is this, a democracy or something?

Hi Attaturk. Exactly! “Obama took a victory lap.” How presumptious of him! Obviously, he doesn’t know his place.
Yeah. How dare he act presidential. Don’t he know his place? Sheesh. /s
Bob in HI
I knew it was going to be bad but, the level of fear of the possibility that a BLACK MAN!!!11!!1 Might be our President has surprised me. Don’t miss the ‘witty reparte’ in the comments.
How uppity can these people get? They think the presidency is owed to them … that they are entitled to it. And, now Osama Obama is making foreign policy like he was already president.
I have a very bad feeling about this one. I’m not at all sure. He may be what he says he is, but then again …
The biggest fear of the GOP is that the great silent majority, the people who don’t get involved in politics and don’t even vote, are spurred to consistent action. This manifests itself in the concern that they’re losing the new media war, which they’ll surely throw billions at in the next decade. But there’s another element of this project: marginalization. Here’s an example: yesterday Color of Change and MoveOn put together a great protest of Fox News’ racist attacks on Obama, delivering hundreds of thousands of petitions and enlisting rapper Nas, who actually has a new track called ”Sly Fox” about the channel, to be their spokesman. So Bill O’Reilly had to respond.
Fox officials are not only attacking Nas for selling his album (which already topped the charts),

We are winning the media war! Despite all the MSM talking heads against us, well KO and Rachel on tv but thats it the rest on tv are a bunch of lying liars!
Money is not the most important thing to have in an election when people are paying attention and angry its Not Being the Party in Power.
Its having ideas to solve problems AND THE STONES TO ACTUALLY DO IT.
I think the voters are giving us a pass on the Stones but for how much longer?
Harry and Nancy are going to cost us Senate and House seats if this keeps up. Obama gives us another FISA and he might as well give McCain 5% of the vote.
Still its better than being the Party of bad ideas when the voters are paying attention no amount of cash can fix that as the GOP is finding out.
OMFG. I knew Johnson had gone over the top, but I had no idea it had come to this.
OT
When the tide came up at 2 AM yesterday I was able to lauch the row boat after loading Blackjack and rowed under thin lite fog moonlight by a on very calm waters to the far shore 2 miles where Blackjack is laid to rest under a purple Navajo blanket with a God’s eye and ubder native plants CVhumash style. The site is abutting the South end of Morro Bay looking North to the Morro Bay Rock. We spent many hours tearing aroung the bay I rowed and he ran joyfully sniffing along fulfilling his sacred instincts. Somedays 10 miles and he would always outrun me and I would yell out the stop stay lie down commands. He would play along and let me catch up then wax me again. When we got down to the South end he would swim across to the sand spit which separates the bay from the ocean.
We are one spirit and I have his with me. We explored the watershed together but favoured around the bay. He caught a deer trail one day and was long gone I went home and the answering machine had a message…come get Blackjack he is here at the Marina. A one mile swim. His range was amazing. I can look in any direction and have a happy memory spring up. One day we hiked up the South side of a a local peak Hollister (google earth). It was geting late we had about 7 or 8 miles to go and home was due West over a steep precipice so I rapelled him down to the bottom ledge by ledge. when we got home we had a lot of tick to remove. He managed the drop very cleverly. Anyway his body is under the sands of Los Osos. When he was older he got rowed acroos the bay and we would hike or run to the ocean.
We will have his ceremony soon.
My cousins widow left a message that she to was in pain as it was the same day of his passing three years ago. I used to give him and his sister baths when they were tyke. Strange and full of wonder. We klnow what a beautiful planet.
Have any of these paid propaganda types Bill O’Reily, Jonah Goldberg,Rush or for that matter G.W Bush ever held a job in the real world outside the media, academia or in Bush’s case how many bankruptcies?
Anything that involved a hot sun, sweat, back pain, all for too little pay? Never mind that have they ever made money at something besides reading or writing GOP talking points?
Their war plans were a bad joke, on the troops. Their economic ideas well outside of Herbert Hoover who else besides Bush has had a stock market likely to end lower than he started when adjusted for inflation.
Now despite these mistakes the Main Stream Media has praised Bush instead of holding him accountable.
You would think that Bush the first MBA President or O’Reily, Katie Couric etc Anybody in the news or in power could read a 10 year stock chart
and figure out just how much money they lost.
You would think that someone besides bloggers would be saying we won WW2 in less time than we have been in Iraq, just what is the problem?
You would think that the rich and the press might notice that yes tax cuts are nice, but since they go overseas more than I do surely they have noticed that the Dollar don’t buy as much as it used to.
Maybe they noticed that the price of gas is over $4 a gallon but still they don’t care, or maybe they are to dumb to understand that thanks to a lower Dollar and inflation they have lost money!
Hey BigBrother: God bless your memories; may he keep them fresh.
And, it’s so damn sad that we live in a universe where we can’t hang on to realities.
”Liberal Fascist” Jonah does know that Fascism is government by or with corporations right? Thats the GOP happy view of World Order.
We Liberals and Lefties however really don’t like corporations.
Jonah try and keep your lies straight!
Oh and I don’t like to be called Liberal, Commie, Socialist, or just Plain LEFTY for short!
Have just returned from no quarter comments. The linked comment thread is kinda unhinged. But it helped me figure out what larry means by no quarter, the readers lack even a quarter of a brain. Now I’m going to take a shower. Racism makes me ill.
Blessings and warm healing light for you, BB. I didn’t say anything last night as I was too upset. You and Blackjack have been in my thoughts today.
Hi BigBrother I hope your doing ok losing a pet can be hard.
1,715 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen ThingsComeUndone and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Now we’re in it…no one can escape the reality that a popular black, “liberal” candidate for president completes the dialectic of our politics and places the fascism of our corporate state in stark relief to our history and the experience of our people. For lo these last 7 years I have been callin’ for a new political vocabulary to call forth a new coalition to create an anti- fascist popular front with the Democratic Party to replace the corrupt and compromised New Deal coalition that fell apart when LBJ jestisoned the Dixiecrats for cover for his “great Society” to divert attention from the losing war in SE Asia.
We simply hafta start callin’ all Republicans and all capitalist businessmen (and women) what they are: fascists. We not only must fight to restore political liberty and the idea of social equality but we must battle to take back the vocabulary of the struggle…let’s start usin’ the term “fascist” when discussin’ the corporat oligarchy and it’s lackies. Nuthin’ will turn the discussion faster than takin’ back the words we use to describe our experience.
KEEP THE FAITH AND REMEBER THERE IS NO COMPROMISING WITH FASCISTS OR FASCISM!!
Damn fucking right!
I have some thoughts on the media problem. I have friends in the MSM business. They swear to God that they are not coerced, controlled, or in any way intimidated into writing what the establishment wants written. Yet, they and their colleagues do it day after day.
I have the feeling that I’m talking to a member of a school of fish who insists that he can swim wherever he likes. He simply chooses day by day to swim with the school.
Good Morning Norske :) Propaganda can be sold but it now appears that the weight of decades of lies are collapsing the system faster than Helicopter Ben can create new financial bubbles.
Its Ponzipocalpse!
(I have to remember to write that word in my FDL diary when we get them along with Bushschadenfreude enjoying making money off of other people’s misery.)
Wigwam @ 16
Well if the media hires everyone from the same schools experiences etc and they send the message conform to our corporate culture or else you won’t move up maybe after years of this they have been trained.
Dood. I really like most of what you’re saying. But, I think I may have some quibbles with some of the following. Specificially, I have no issues with the italicized part.
So, here are my quibbles:
– I’m not convinced that LBJ used his great society “to divert attention from the losing war in SE Asia. IIRC, the “great society” was well under way before say the Gulf of Tonkin incident.
— The New Deal coalition has been dead for a long time, e.g., Bill Clinton and his DLC put a stake through its heart. But, New-Deal government is thriving throughout the rest of the industrialized world. IMHO, those are ideas to revisit.
Is the lake acting slow today or is it just me?
You may be right. They may have been trained. But my friends among them have convinced me that they are not aware that they’ve been trained/intimidate or anything else. (And my information is at least ten years old.)
Damn I love me some Hullabaloo.
It ought to be required reading for absolutely everyone.
(uh-oh, does that statement make me a liberal fascist?)
“Presumptious” is the new “uppity.”
The best Brainwashing is when you don’t know that you have been brainwashed. Ask them about their stocks, ask if they have made money since Bush got in then explain to them what the drop in the dollar has done to stocks.
If they fight you or refuse to believe then they got a Cognitive Dissonance going on.
” I want to be Uppity too ”

No it means you like good to the point writing and one of the most insightful minds on the net.
Dead on, Bro. But the cool word is “networth,” as in:
You won’t have to buy him beer ever again.
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s clear and cool in central Jersey for the first time in two weeks. Hallelujah! Thanks for a great characterization of contemporary opinion journalism, Attaturk, and for a great graphic. And let me echo other commenters by saying how much I love reading Digby. She’s on my “must read daily” list.
McPetulant is having another bad week, actually a series of bad weeks. He’s making gaffe after gaffe, and getting called on it [even after the media covers up some of the gaffes]. Traditional media, sensing that there isn’t much of a horse race anymore, feels obliged to pour cold water on its own coverage of Obama.
It’s comfortable enough to bake today, so I’ve got some lemon poppyseed loaf and some morning glory muffins on the counter. There’s hot and iced coffee, and a big pot of tea. Help yourselves.
Work for peace every day!
Citizen Wigwam:
No dear friend, the Civil Rights Act was LBJ’s attempt to enfranchise the voting block he needed to enable his “Great Society” efforts and carry the politics of “guns and butter”…he needed ta keep the politics domestic and involved and he thought that by enfranchisin’ the Blacks and incorporatin’ ‘em into a new governing coalition in his own party he would trump the New England “liberals” and keep folks from arguin’ that the war in Vietnam was gunna bankrupt the country. I know ‘cuz my life changed forever with the political machinations of that bastard…we wouldn’t have had the “Great Society” without the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act and the war in Vietnam would have come to a head much sooner than the early 1970’s …one of the great ironies of history. Only in Amerika ken ya get perpetual war with yer voting rights.
Shorter Krauthammer:
Scary brown person Maliki just threw the election for scary balck person Obama.
Does not compute.
Head must explode.
MBAs don’t care about 10 year trends outside of their personal portfolios anymore.
Entrepreneurs do.
MBA’s work quarter to quarter and jump to the next organization after a bad quarter or two.
Hence the Bush ranch in Paraguay.

Total Networth! that means the value of their house, stocks, cash etc minus their debts now compare that number today with what they had before Bush became President and factor in promotions if you want to (I am not sure how to do that)
But Total Networth with the drop in housing prices and the average American having most of their wealth in their homes well that number will be worse than just the drop in their stocks.
Per HuffPo:
Does Cliff, Hugh or anyone have a list of all of McCain’s gaffs? I wonder how many hours would the tape run?
The truth is out and it is not pretty.
A large percentage of the USA is “uncomfortable” with Obama’s pigmentation.
He knows it, we know it and they know it.
But it will continue to be couched in subtle (and not so) variances until the election when we will see how many people are capable of actual personal growth in a relatively short period.
Some are lost causes, others need our help, not our scorn.
The media will always seek the simplest explanation, but as Obama said, attitudes about race are complicated and individual.
More information and individual attention is the cure for borderline cases.
The true haters are a minority. the larger number are simple afraid of the unknown.
Just like (UBS vice-chair) Phil Gramm said, a nation of whiners:
UBS Defrauded Investors, Cuomo Alleges in Lawsuit
I always thought Larry Johnson… ex CIA was a creep and he is proving it in spades. Once CIA, always CIA… so they have the spook mindset.
Same reason I don’t trust Plame. They share that American exceptionalism meme. We da bomb.. yea right
thanks for the tip. i waded through a lot of it as i held my nose. my conclusion:
The Jonah Goldberg Junior High School Political Action Committee at work in the fields of the Lord.
Good morning, pups. Unfortunately Paul Krugman is off, so we’re faced with solo Bobo. He typed a thing called “Playing Innocent Abroad,” in which he moans it will take politics and power to address challenges, the two factors that dare not speak their name in Barack Obama’s lofty peroration in Berlin, which he called treacle.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee and tea are ready, and to go along with NJP’s lemon poppyseed loaf and morning glory muffins I’ve got banana pancakes. Can anyone explain to my why a kitten will spurn a new catnip mouse in favor of pushing pens off your desk? Have a great day.
So, in my ignorance, I looked up the word “treacle” in the Wikipedia:
Somehow, I don’t think that’s what Bobo had in mind when he used the word!
back from NoQuarter.
The comments are a glimpse into the hellhole.
I *am* curious as to who printed the poster.
The assumption that it came from the Obama organization is undocumented in any way.
Also, I am not a graphic design type, but I suspect there is considerably more context than Larry (not a visually inclined person either) Johnson is discussing.
Actually, I take that back – Johnson actually looks alot like a Design professor or an unsuccessful hairdresser.
Everyday we’re getting closer to a Barack Obama presidency. I can’t wait for the neocons to wrap themselves in the flag and telling us we must support the president and the country right or wrong! It’s gonna be fun.
Meanwhile…
Joe Scarborough seems to be getting pudgier and pudgier as the days go by. Is Joe holding in some guilt? Could be. He needs to explain this:
http://www.americanpolitics.co…..sutis.html
And Joe also needs to explain why finding an article on this matter is difficult. Has he asked someone to scrub the Internet of it? Seems so.
Here’s the comment I just left over on NoQuarter:
Callers on WJ & current guest clearly got the R talking points: how dare BO represent the U.S. overseas before he’s prez and JM is up in the polls.
Good Morning,
Freezing here, had to break out the comforter for comfort.
Boy did McCain have a bad week, it’s a cryin’ shame.

I’m starting to think that we’re seein’ a two-track form of racism here. There’s the overt stuff outa Fox and their minions. And then there’s the fellow traveler stuff out of the likes of Kathleen Parker and David Broder and MoDo. Kos has a couple posts on this, too.
So your post and digby’s are far from outliers.
Arrogant and presumptuous are the new uppity.
How about calm confidence in his abilities and the rightness of his purpose? Heck, that even applies to the little kid showing her spring livestock on the RFD channel.
The Villagers ought to get out of their own cloisters more. The stuffiness of their rarified air is rotting their brain cells.
Totally ignoring, of course, McCain in Canada…and Colombia…and Mexico…and Iraq… and….
But no. All the R callers on WJ this morning said he had a great week (that was the Q; R callers only) cause he’s so uppity, will provide ammunition for McCain for the future. I guess we were looking at the wrong week.
Foreclosure filings up 120%

Holy Crap just when you think Bush can’t surprise you with anymore bad news he always goes the extra mile.
Larry Johnson is one sad, scared little boy.
those deluded callers made me laugh out loud
Attaturk,
I look forward to the day after the election ,rigid right wing nuts,w/ their heads exploded w/ the thought of calling a Black president. I think we may be looking at Civil War 2 to finally settle the black white divide.
My brother , a winger , sends me warning about this Obama guy all the time. Even if he had another eon or two he’ll never move me nor I him.
(((bigbrother)))
(((Blackjack)))
No to worry, Laura’s houseshopping in Dallas. She will singlehandedly save the housing market. And as soon as George and Laura sign the deal at discount prices, the housing market will rise again and they can look forward to returnin’ to Texas and starting to refill the ol’ coffers.
Oh, and, this is arrogance….
and that’s the truth
Sometimes I think that we Lefties are just not Pessimistic enough, Paranoid enough, etc. Sometimes I think we don’t have enough tinfoil or conspiracy theories.
Then I read Bobo and I realize frightened what Forbidden Cool Aid drinking/Brainwashing can do to a person. And I’m thankful for despite failing to stop Bush I at least still have a mind.
Well said.
While the impact on foreclosed families cannot be overstated, the problem goes way beyond them. Not only will banks not protect neighborhoods from deterioration, cities can look forward to big hits on their tax rolls, making it difficult, if not impossible, to pay for essential services. The collapse of the system may not be all bad, though there will be pain. Perhaps something bright and shining will rise from the ashes.
Scarecrow’s up!
Good link the GOP seems to think that their problem is message?
Which they preface of course by saying that Bill was insincere too but he was sincere looking about it and Bush is obvious.
Bill never had this much bad news to sell us. Forget the Message we know Bush is lying its what he lies about that kills me.
WMD, the war will only cost how much? the economy is doing great? we will rebuild New Orleans?
Give me a lie about a BJ anyday
Two reasons:
1. New catnip mouse doesn’t have enough “scent” on it yet. S/he’ll take care of this at night while yer sleepin’.
2. Pens off desk make a cool noise and really scoot on a non-carpeted floor.
*g*
Good on you. I had to stop myself from adding a comment. I wouldn’t have been anywhere near as nice as you were.
What brain cells?
I think you nailed it with #2, even if there is a rug…! He’s studying cause and effect this week, apparently.
Your version of ”What Digby Said” includes what I said!
