First it was Bob Novak in his black Corvette, obviously reliving his viewing of The Dark Knight on his way to work at 18th and K the other day. ["Must . Ignore. Pedestrian."]
Now, Andrew Klavan at the WSJ wants us to see George W. Bush as … [nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh] Batman!
There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war.
Yeah, he’s just like Batman. Except that Bush’s frat-boy-on-steroids presidency has turned everything it’s touched — from the "war on terror" to Iraq to the economy to disaster preparedness — to complete shit. Batman is, you know, competent. Other than that, he’s just like him.

David!
HJC -
Hinchey – bin Laden was allowed to escape because they needed to justify attacking Iraq.
Klavan is out of touch with reality among other things. This is just plain silly.
Miller – Democracy dies behind closed doors. Oversight!
I’d offer W. as being the Joker, but the Joker is way smarter than W.
Batman isn’t a real superhero — just a rich kid with a cool costume and expensive toys. Can’t fly. Can’t cast nets from his hands. Not bulletproof. Hmmmm…. On the other hand, he is on the force of good.
Rep. Freedom Fries himself now up. Boy has he had a major change—a surgical implantation of conscience.
I also loved the obligatory reference to that other wingnut fave, 300.
Probably the most disturbing piece of historical shit I’ve ever watched. Especially since it was so visually amazing.
Um … Persians weren’t dark-skinned Africans, folks … And how about the homosexual liberal traitor the filmmakers added to the story? Eeeesh.
“Foreclosure filings up 120%”
“As foreclosures continue to soar, 220,000 homes were lost to bank repossessions in the second quarter, according to a housing market report Friday issued by RealtyTrac.
That’s nearly triple the number from the same period in 2007.”

Quick, someone get Batman! Or maybe just someone with more than a C average.
Get to the SHOVELS and START DIGGING!
Boy the CJC is having a great hearing on Impeachment! Now what we all want is that the IMPEACHMENT Investigation starts ASAP!
I’d offer W. as being the Joker, but the Joker is way smarter than W.
otoh, can there be any doubt as to who, within this admin, is The Penguin?
Hey – I stepped out for a few. We’re on the second panel? No questioning of the first?
Batman is actually something of a fascist which is why Klavan is attracted to him. He is the paranoid corporatist vigilante, a Dick Cheney with six pack abds, who sees evil forces out there seeking to get us and which we and the law are too weak to act against. So he breaks the law but only for our own good. Such figures are fine in fiction where they can do no harm, in real life not so much.
none.
This is how we officially stifle dissent. Show hearing just like those at Gitmo.
When Bob Barr can make so much sense and Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want to hear it we might as well pack it in.
Someone who was not fifth from the bottom of his class
OT but here is a letter from my traitorous Senator Feinstein:
My favorite Rocky—Anderson from Utah. He rocks!
So Lawton Smalls has revealed himself to be … duh duh DUUHHHH … none other than Andrew Klavan?
In some ways, the lack of questioning is a positive way from keeping the Republicans from talking about extraneous crap.
none.
F.A.R.C.E.
otoh – Rocky looking Vice-Presidential!!
Who’s her PR flack? Joseph Goebbels?
Who put Presser on the panel?
‘CON’- law professor up now. Can’t see any evidence of impeachable offenses committed by GWB.
We want Turley! We want Turley!…
EXCELLENT post, David.
Thank you.
and
LOLOLOL
Batman, huh?
When or WHEN can we be shed of these ijits, like, FOREVER????!
The memory of functional, competent and sincere government (or far closer to that) is growing more and more distant each and every day.
I will, however, never forget the functional media I was raised with.
How sad and horrible to see this happen anywhere, but that it’s occuring in America is nothing short of human tragedy on a galactic scale.
Shorter Presser: Nothing to see here. Move along.
Presser—blow jobs are impeachable. War crimes, not.
My respect for Northwestern U has just gone down the toilet.
Fine Fein-snark…
Is this Klavan an American? Does it practice strange perverse rituals in foreign countries? Or is it just an agent for one of the axis of evils?
gotta watch these strange folks and their weird ideas that transcend reality into comics.
Sergeant Schultz: I zee nozing
Sergeant Schultz: I zee nozing . . . but blowjobs.
uh no Andrew, Bush is kryptonite to competence and democracy.
besides, Assrocket will be jealous
As John Yoo has shown, it’s not just think tanks and policy centers that are populated by wingnuts. It’s the law schools as well seeking an “ideological” balance, you know lawyers who believe in the law and those that don’t.
Steve King left behind, now batting in The Designated Thuggish Timekeeper slot in the lineup…
Bugliosi is laying the wood to Bush real good now on CSPAN 1.
I hope the Daily Show or Colbert can get him on to talk about his testimony.
jeremy rabid
no asshole (rabkin) – it’s all part of a whole: an out of control lawless executive.
As much as I respect Conyers, I think he doesn’t have the ability to provide dynamic leadership. I hope he will graciously find a successor.
Of course Bush is just like Batman:
Both have a long list of accomplishmets which are entirely fictional.
Both have rapid fans who spend most of their time in their parents’ basements.
Both respond to any situation with violence.
Both are fond of comic books.
Both are comfortable at a sixth grade reading level.
Both have an affinty for codpieces.
Both had troubled childhoods.
And, finally, desipte the best efforts of some very talented writers, both are entirely two dimensional.
If Dubbya is Batman that makes “Jeff Gannon” Robin.
Cass Sunstein is Alfred.
Glenzilla is going after Obama’s Univ. of Chicago colleague and legal advisor, Cass Sunstein:
IMHO, Sunstein is much more dangerous than is John Yoo. Per his Wikipedia entry, he is the most highly cited legal scholar in the country. He has excellent “liberal credentials” and eloquently supports the beltway view of the world. I recommend viewing the “debate” between him and Glenn at Democracy Now.
Of course he is. Christ, people, wake up! The University of Chicago gave us Leo Strauss (who taught political philosophy at the U of C’s Department of Political Science) and Joseph Cropsey (Strauss’s foremost protege, co-author, and literary executor.) It also spawned, or at least nurtured, members of “The University of Chicago School of Law and Kick Them in the Groin Economics” Richard Posner, Frank Easterbrook, Richard Epstein et al. which in turn was founded upon the Market Fundamentalism of Milton Friedman, now retired but long-time Professor of Economics at… the University of Chicago.
Bush is actually much more like Uncle Fester of the Munsters. The life of the party!
Bush is Batman?
Like this Batman? Batman clubbin’
Or this Batman? Holy Sardine!
Or this Batman? Batman saving the free world
Holy batcrap!!! TV acting was so much better back then!
