It didn’t make any sense to me at the time, and it still doesn’t. I found that the presence of women in the mixed dorm generally made the men a lot more civilized. Living in the all-male dorm was something close to living in the Animal House. The all-women dorm was pretty much the quietest place on campus, and I can understand why someone who was concentrating on school might well choose to stay there.
