Our little neighborhood has been experiencing a rash of robberies. We lost a lawn mover and bike a couple of weeks ago. Several others had things stolen out of their garages. Yesterday a neighbor came home to his house ransacked. It happened in the middle of the day. And tonight the same happened around the corner.

It’s the economy stupid. And it will get worse.

We are organizing a neighborhood watch.

RIP Blackjack
I am doing a row to bury Blackjack out near the Back Bay where he loved hiking with me. By the water with a great view of the Rock very spiritusl place. Hope to have a memorial ceremony later this weekend native American style with burning sage. He was in pain this morning and nothing was operating for him and panic set in. I calmed him while my friends made a vet appointment and they gave him sodium petathol and his heart stopped. I consulted a number of people this morning and in the past weeks. He hung in there for me with his great heart. Most of Los Osos regulars knew him with his constant smile and tail wagging. The vet was terrific and compassionate.
So sweet of you Suzanne to have put Blackjack up on your site. He loved attention and affection and for the last ten days he had a party every day celebrating what a sweet, loyal lovable creature that he was. How he put up with me for 14.5 years was truly a work of great patients. I sympathize with all of you and your loved ones when you have to part. I was very fortunate to have had his friendship.

Thanks Pups for the kind thoughts. I chose to celebrate his life. Our four footed friends are a gift with their instincts. He was from Northern Ca and the nose of a hunter. He ran and swan like a champ and loved humans like brothers and sisters. Lets take really good care of the ones that are with us. It has been an amazing day and outpouring of affection for him. Obama will be speaking in Berlin in just a few hours. The German press is predicting between 500,00 and 900,00 people. I agree we have to keep watching him. I predict he will talk about worldwide reconciliation and a new concept of how the USA wll help fulfill that, FWIW…

I would like very much to hear him say that under the Obama administration our foreign policy will no longer be driven by the aims of the Chicago School, and we will make it our highest priority to respect the sovereignty of sovereign states. Is that too much to expect? (I would like it more if he would actually make that happen).

The Navy’s brass, but serving and retired, seem to be a very tight bunch, and they seem to take a long-term view of things. They seem to think that another war at this time would not be good for the fleet, and I’m guessing that their reticence has been one of the few things that has kept Bush from attacking Iran.

But there’s also the fundamental fact that, no matter how deep our bombs can penetrate, Iran can dig a deeper hole in which to operate their centrifuges. Ultimately, bombing Iran can’t stop them from acquiring nuclear weapons. In fact, it’s likely to make them more determined to do so.
