Fred Hiatt:
July 8: Good, Obama is willing to be flexible with his Iraq Plan, the Iraqis don’t want it.
July 16: Obama’s Iraq Plan is dangerously rigid and the Iraqis don’t want it.
July 23: Obama’s Iraq plan is dangerously flexible and the Iraqis’ agreement with him is proof they don’t want it.
And for the final dose of why Fred Hiatt is a war mongering dupe, today’s kicker:
While the United States has an interest in preventing the resurgence of the Afghan Taliban, the country’s strategic importance pales beside that of Iraq, which lies at the geopolitical center of the Middle East and contains some of the world’s largest oil reserves.
Now we’re down to the ol’ imperial brass tacks of it you two-bit neo-con toady. Who cares about "terrorists" it’s all about the oil.

Doood! You rule.
And there is he crux of the neocon coalition: zionism and corporate interests, both energy and national security.
OT as always:
Blackwater armory in N.C. raided by feds
And now back to Fred: it must be siad that he passes the George Packer intelligence test.
Reasons change Desire remains the same
Fred Hearts oil and will like a junkie looking to score say anything he thinks he has to to get what he wants.
Any ideas why?
Morning Attaturk :)
Morning all…
Duggggg.!
Oops. My link is to a new story about an old event. Sorry.
Late June ATF raids Blackwater and we find out about it now? When normal people get arrested its in the newspapers often the next day?
Did the government keep things quiet the press or both. I love that the AG wouldn’t even comment that there was an investigation for awhile tell me does he extend that privilege to all crooks or just the rich ones?
The legal professoriate is coming off rather lame, between Berkeley’s hire of John Yoo and Havard’s hiring of Cass Sunstein. And, don’t forget that Yale withdrew their offer to Juan Cole. Academicia is looking like part of the problem.
Blackwater claims to be leaving the security business now most businesses don’t leave a business unless they are not making money.
Maybe Blackwater fears civil lawsuits from their own employees like the lawsuits the relatives of their employees killed in Fallujah tried to bring against the company getting a better hearing in an Obama administration.
Kissenger, Milton Friedman, Leo Strauss helped create today’s Neocons its funny how the ivory tower types the GOP claims to hate with no real world experience or real world experience that is WRONG all seem to be on their side.
Any word on the Diaries?
I think they are milking the launch for all it’s worth.
Your old event didn’t get much news coverage and the AG it seems was not even commenting if they were investigating Blackwater.
Now then illegally having fully automatic weapons is what caused Waco the Feds will surround your house and burn it to the ground, unless you give to the GOP like Blackwater’s CEO Prince did.
allan’s OT would make a great diary discussion
^_-
There are several pertinent threads to that story which illustrate the malaise which has infected the Republican party.
There is the thuggish element.
Law enforcement who don’t beleive in enforcing the laws as written.
And a wealthy political family whose business was based on a pyramid scheme and flag-waving.
Whining when called out on any of these things about the evil media depriving them of theif God-goven Richt to breal laws and take advantage of those weaker than themselves.
Oh, and drop the whole mess in a Calvinist community.
y kant mack type?
Then maybe Friday when everyone tunes in to see Dennis start talking impeachment in the House. I think it goes to the judiciary committee first and then if they approve the full House votes then the Senate does the trial.
If we can get a full House Vote before the election we can see which of the blue dogs absolutely just has to go.
Then we delay a Senate Vote until after the New Senate is seated, heck we delay a vote until Obama is in the White House and can declassify all the stuff Bush classified.
Then with all that evidence C-Span suddenly becomes must see TV for month.
BTW, I would have written about Dowd’s indescribably wretched column today but I just didn’t know where to begin other than hitting my head with a hammer until I forgot all about it.
Which I will now have to repeat.
Ladies and gentlemen, It tastes like burning
Whats the Calvinst have to do with this I’m not complaining I’m just curious.
Am I a fool for dreaming that he will read the article, feel shame, and mend his ways? Probably.
I like your script but we must remember that the director has her head firmly placed in her rectum and therefor we must find another director before action can begin.
It seems that (show text) has become another victim of the FDL “improvements”.
Memo to nomolos: Having spent the last two days programming you should have some sympathy for the techies
Fundies
The other element of the Republican philosophical brand.
THough one might think that a strong Christian ethic would be opposed to greed and blood lust, in the fundie world that is offset by fear of homosexuality and the overriding concern for the unborn.
works in some posts – strange

Dang we need a vote by the full House before the Election so we can Nail the Blue Dogs cause we do have a comfortable enough majority in the House that we can vote Green party rather than Democrat Blue Dog.
The Blue Dogs are in swing districts they always say they have to vote GOP on lots of issues to get elected this time lets reverse that equation.
Vote like you got a pair, Vote like a Dem or the activist wing does not need you, we worked hard to get a Big Democratic Majority in the House you guys gave us failure and couldn’t stand up to Bush for the last 7 years.
You Blue Dogs are in close districts so if even a few Democratic Activist vote Green Nationwide rather than vote for you Spineless twerps then we could Decimate your group this election.
Of course the blogs would need to push this Meme hard.
As shown by the accumulation of vast wealth by the papists and of course the inquisition.
So bloodlust is justified and rationalized if its in Christ’s name?
Just how wrong are these folks the true test of morals/morality is tough times for anyone can be good when living is easy.
If you can hold onto your morals when times are tough like Job, Ghandi or Dr King thats when you prove that you are worthy!
Blowing up Abortion Clinics won’t put you right with God.
Attaturk, “editorial jackass” is a perfect description of Fred Hiatt. Do you get the feeling that most of the neocons over the past eight years have now finally come to realize that everything George Bush & Dick Cheney have done has been about oil and they’ve known that? But now feel safe to say it out loud?
The neocons just can’t admit the liberals have been correct on almost all fronts.
Seen today across America…
Johnny McTeleprompter masturbating with a picture of the latest surge in Iraq. Wow! Frightening.
We’ll leave when they ask us to, unless they don’t really mean it, and we know what they really mean in spite of what they say. Endless occupation!
Dowd fries my ass sometimes, but at the end of this piece, she does write this:
She definitely nails it in the last sentence I think.
Wow, could she possibly use any more racist code words for “uppity”?
the thing i’ve been noticing about MoDo is how hard she’s trying to snark on Obama and how much she’s not managing to do it …
Fred Hiatt is an ass. and not even trying to pretend otherwise.
Which is why the Protestants left in the first place. Maybe Organized religion is structurally flawed Nietzsche theory of Priestly Morality explains Catholics real well but Protestants not so much.
Unless the stricter the religious set is on morality the more denial of pleasure the more the pursuit of power replaces pleasure.
The more the values of the upper class are adopted even when they run counter to your own interests.
The more you get others to believe as you believe the more power you get, the more intense the belief the more you can get your mases to vote against their own interests.
Unhappiness is the key to judge when morality is going overboard. I don’t like lying for example I still do it sometimes but its wrong an I don’t argue that because I believe it wrong.
But telling me that I have to live by your rules when I don’t believe in them would make me unhappy. I wonder how many unhappy GOPers are out there afraid to break the trend?
um thanks for that link
It has always been “We’ll stay as long as we like.”
Public statements to the contrary, we invaded Iraq when we got the boot from the Saudis. 9/11 was the punctuation mark.
Iraq was a good location and had the added benefit of being ruled by a pariah.
It should have been a “slam dunk” except our leadership decided to do it on the cheap to prove some half assed philosophical point about Big Government.
Fer chrissakes, we even concocted a ‘coalition of the coerced’.
All we had to do was effect some sort of stable regime witin a few years and everything would have blown over. But no. Those philosophical geniuses decided that a bunch of purple fingers would elect a malable government and then thank us for blowing up half their infrastructure and leaving the other half unprotected while we searched for WMD for which we had no credible intelligence.
How could such an effort go wrong?
Inconceivable.
(I am just a little cynical on these points)
MoDo does nail it there at the end.

Maybe she wants a job writing GOP speeches after the election.
Maybe now Johnny Mac understands what Carol felt like when he switched to Cindy. And she handled it with a lot more grace.
Good morning, pups. MoDo (see comments above) and Friedman today. MoDo typed an indescribable piece of crap titled “Is ‘The One’ Cocky or Commander in Chiefy?” She gurgles that as Barack Obama glided through the Middle East, he left some officials swooning and a media behemoth scouring his every move. Mr. Friedman chimes in with “All Hail McBama.” He says the right position on Iraq today is probably “McBama” — stick to a clear withdrawal timetable, but leave yourself some wiggle room.

The coffee and tea are ready, and there’s a large selection of bagels with cream cheese. Sleeping in is fun! Have a great day.
Right after the Supremes gave him the White House, Bush told us what to expect…dictatorships were peachy with him, as long as he got to be dictator.
Heck, why settle for just one country when you can Tamerlane the world.
was waiting for your take on her column *g
and the bagels…
LOL Exactly.
Does anyone know what plan Johnny McTeleprompter hashed out to win the Vietnam war while he was a POW? Huh. I wonder what plan he was working on. Spit. (Just had to get this off my chest) ;-)
‘xackly dat. Oilers want their stakes and we will not be leaving Iraq to the Iraqis no matter who is President. We will need oil to power up the solar cell and wind power mfg plants that Gore wants to build.
Fred seems like a lot of GOPers to justify what he wants even if it means contradicting what he had said before. Kind of like Bush was on tax cuts before 9/11 we had to much money, after 9/11 we needed to help the economy.
Reasons Change desire remains the same if you are a little kid!
Little Kids are often shy around strangers they don’t like the other.
GOPers don’t like anyone different from them they think everyone will be happy when everyone is the same Ann Coluter “Let’s kill their Leaders and convert them to Christianity “
Or Bush “They hate us for our Freedom” ARRGH! Bush is to arrogant to be multicultural and learn why they hate us, American troops in the Muslim Holy Land, us giving Israel weapons to kill Palestinians.
Bush then has the nerve to place his own judgments on why they hate us as fact.
Modo has been using a lot of code words my guess is that she is the moderate GOPer McCain hopes to win, but the more she talks about why she doesn’t like Obama the more she pisses off us 70%ers!
Funny Crisis has made people pay attention and now that they are paying attention we are finding that most people are naturally good:)
Mencius would say I told you so:)
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28784
I revisit this from time to time to remind me how good satire can become bad reality.
Do you ever get the feeling that Modo protest to much on Obama?
Well if he has a plan why didn’t he tell Bush about it its only been about 7 years since 9/11.
Exactly
It is instructive to remember that little kids’ behavior should not be encouraged by too much attention.
Best to firmly correct them, send them to bed without supper and say nothing about it in the morning.
This is a good take on the cause of the mess we’re in’
http://video.google.com/videop…..2583451279
Scarecrow’s up!
Exactly. Maybe Johnny is one of those guys who does nothing in secret but tells everyone he knows exactly what needs to be done, but can’t share it, because it’s a secret? Huh. Could be.
Read Marion in Savannah Friedman not Modo is the real story I think.
Friedman after all these years is now going to claim that his unit is finally right? The man is dead wrong on the surge producing peace, well a sustainable peace anyway it almost seems like he needs the Surge to work to justify his Friedman Unit predictions more than he cares about winning in Iraq.
I wonder how many other war supporters need the excuse of Surge=Victory…and now lets go home?
I know that after we leave and Iraq goes into civil war Friedman will blame us for pulling the troops out.
But we have complained about the way this war was fought every step of the way while Friedman said give it another 6 months.
Our predictions were right all along.
Oil, Black Gold, Iraqi Tea….
How does one define a fascist? One who steals another’s resources under the pretense of liberation and law, while an occupation exists at the point of a barrel. The Oil fascist have no shame in the perpetuation of their gain.
The “Iraq/Afghan Oil Plot”
“While the United States has an interest in preventing the resurgence of “Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government…”the Afghan Taliban, the country’s strategic importance pales beside that of Iraq, which lies at the geopolitical center of the Middle East and contains some of the world’s largest oil reserves.”
Herein lies the t(r)eason when in the interest of political expediency “Reason,” is replaced by the servile prejudices of policy makers, using the “executive powers” of the presidency of the United States and our military, not for the benefit of society and the general welfare of the governed, but rather to guarantee corporate oil’s profit while enabling America’s oil addiction.” The evidence all around us is ignored and so many are in denial, brainwashed and intellectually dishonest!
“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny”
Jefferson
“Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government…”
Thomas Jefferson
700 billion Dollars of “Liberty” leaving America each year via the hands of corporate middlemen on to “foreign oildoms?” Sounds just like the King and his cohorts in corpo-colonial crime as they mercantiled our forefathers many a time!
I was thinking that bad parenting had something to do wit it:)
How does one define a fascist? One who steals another’s resources under the pretense of liberation and law, while an occupation exists at the point of a barrel.
Is that your own words if so that is very good
It’s not just Obama. It’s been pretty much any male Dem. She called Edwards “the Breck girl” and said Gore was so feminized he was almost lactating. To get a thorough deconstruction of her crap you need to consult The Daily Howler’s archives. See particularly recently July 9 and July 3.
I’m thinking that like Lucy on Charlie Brown she keeps pulling the football away from Charlie because she likes him being mean is her little kid way of saying I like you pay attention to me or else.
Also she uses a lot of female images to describe males, Dem males.
Juan Cole cost Yale my donation. When they askeds for it, I simply sent back the card with two words, ‘Juan Cole.’
Right On!
Yes sir, my own words.
