Seems like a good crowd ya got here at the Lake tonight, but i really gotta turn in. Night dogs!! And Suze, I didn’t vote in TedFest. I’m not doing contests anymore. You know what a pain in the ass I can be.
It says a “college student” actually at North Dakota State, not in Antarctica, has made this amazing discovery. Take that Al Gore and you thousands of Nobel Prize-winning scientists!!
Right on the Yahoo frontpage. Falls right into the “Oh, it’s just natural temperature fluctuations and has nothing to do with global warming, you crazy Liberal!” which I’ve been getting a lot recently. This, right after last week I hear about a huge chunk of Antarctica melting away decades earlier than predicted.
Just amazing at how coordinated all this messaging is.
well — and i’m not just saying this — i thought they were all good, so i don’t wanna single anyone out. Congratulations again on the house deal and don’t forget St. Joe.
Yep. And it’s not about maintaining scientific rigor throughout the coming months of inquiry - it’s about getting it out there and letting it get kicked around on teevee.
Suz didn’t I just hear this recently??
I did digg Neuro’s Dugg
Did you Digg Nero’s Digg?
You know you should Digg because you can digg it is really easy to DIGG!!
East county is buzzing about retired Navy SEAL Commander Mike Lumpkin running as a Democrat for California’s 52nd Congressional District. With over $300,000 in campaign contributions to date, Commander Lumpkin has raised tens of thousands of dollars more than any Democratic candidate in the history of the 52nd Congressional District.
Now if they’d just make use of the people who’ve tried to volunteer, we might actually have a chance to keep Lil’ Duncan from inheriting his poppa’s seat.
For the first time since shortly after clinching the Democratic nomination, we now have Barack Obama as less than a 60 percent favorite to win the election. Our simulations presently project Obama to win the election 58.4 percent of the time, with McCain winning the remaining 41.6 percent.
The main culprit for the decline are the new numbers out of Ohio, where Rasmussen shows John McCain jumping into a 10-point lead. We have already discussed this particular poll at length. Are the changes caused by differences in measuring party identification? No, not really. Rasmussen assumes a slightly redder electorate than other pollsters, but Obama’s numbers had declined among Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike. Could there be problems related to the sampling of young voters in this survey, who went surprisingly strongly for McCain? That is a more viable explanation. But it still would not account for the entirety of the decline.
There is also new polling out from American Research Group, which has Florida and New Hampshire moving in John McCain’s direction. In Florida, Obama now trails by 2 after having led by 5 points, and in New Hampshire, he leads by 2 after having led by 12.
Well, just as a non-academic, non-scientist I have merely taken note of the very large number of pieces of big ice that have completely melted away faster than the scientists predicted. In my lifetime the number of glaciers in OMG Glacier Park has been reduced almost in half. Now they are talking about actually being able to sail a boat across the Arctic North Pole. That glacier that covers Greenland is losing 5 million gallons of water per day.
But it’s not happ’nin. Mr. Senator. James. Inhofe. says. so.
Depends on how you define real Democrat I guess. As far as I know he’s never been a Republican. I did a little Q&A with his campaign awhile back, and while he seems more conservative than I am, it sure as shit beats the alternative. Can read his thoughts on some issues here, if you’re interested
Don’t know if that’s gonna work well. I don’t think most americans give a fuckin shit about who was right/wrong about the surge…it’s more about them deciding that Obama is a black guy who they are willing to vote for- and that won’t be an easy decision for many people.
Here was his stance on FISA, and this was back in March.
2: What is your view on the current FISA debate, particularly in regards to telcom immunity?
FISA should never have been expanded. The government’s ability to spy was extensive enough already. The government is failing us in so many ways right now, this can just be added to the list. I want a safe, secure country. I have lived my life trying to secure exactly that. Frankly, the reason I joined the service was to defend my country’s beautiful liberties and secure them for future generations of Americans. Some attribute the following quote to Benjamin Franklin “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” No one can express the ideology of our democracy better than one of the founders.
As far as telecommunications immunity, my understanding is that legal culpability is determined in context. It is quite a thing to have the power of the executive branch of the government pointed in your direction making demands. Lack of courage to say “no” under such circumstances is no surprise. I think courts are well equipped to unravel this type of legal factual minutia and get to a just result. Immunity from the law is something to be dolled out sparingly.
That poll is a fluke in Ohio. Every other one shows Obama ahead. Including Quinnipiac.
I don’t know what McCain has said or done that makes his numbers go up. Except say more dumb sh*t.
I don’t know what Obama has said or done that would make his numbers go down.
Oh wait. There is a new smear email making the rounds. It says that Obama is going to force everyone to learn Spanish. Because of all the 14 million illegals who ‘refuse to learn English’. So Obama ‘arrogantly struts across a stage’ and informs the rest of us that because they won’t learn English we all have to learn Spanish.

I’m not saying it’s an argument worth winning, but it puts some distance between them.
Like I said, what else do they have? Can’t very well trot Gramm or Lieberman out there to talk about, well, anything of substance.
And I’m not conceding the point. Obama shouldn’t either.
It’s actually an open seat, Duncan Hunter the elder is retiring, but his son is running for the seat. Mostly seems to be running on name recognition and seeing how many times he can mention Jesus and the dreaded brown menace.
Lieberman said he had been urged not to speak to Hagee’s group, Christians United for Israel.
“The bond that I feel with Pastor Hagee and each and every one of you is much stronger than that, and so I am proud to stand with you tonight,” Lieberman told several thousand members of the group, which urges U.S. support for Israel.
“I don’t agree with everything that Pastor Hagee’s done and said … but there is so much more important than that that we agree on,” Lieberman said.
In times past the antarctic was not at the South Pole and was attached to Australia but that was just a few years ago… has something to do with plate tectonics’s and the continents moving around on the surface of the planet… North Dakota ya say they mustn’t have taught him any geophysics!! IIRC /S
I would take exception to that but I am not in congress… now if you are talking about The Duncan or his spawn I would agree with you on that. Not all Hunters are assholes!
Doubt it, though he had some connection to what the Dukester was mixed up in, he doesn’t seem to have been quite so blatant about it. The guy was always a rightwing asshole, but I’ve never heard about much in the way of illegal behavior. Plus, his office was always nice enough to reply to all my mail, no matter how hostile I was.
Now see what you made me go and do? Actually had to say something nice about Duncan Hunter, I feel so dirty now, and not in the fun way.
too bad for joe that we have very long memories…he’s betting it all on mcsame winning. he’s gonna end up the proxac poster child doing late nite tv infomercials
error by ass - it was his big cheney to the d’s and in his over eagerness to flip us all off he showed his true inner ugly. its all about him and what’s in it for him. he’s got all his eggs in one basket and they are gonna go splat.
Dammit, another Hi and Bye, been a little busy.
I would REALLY like to thank you all for the kind words after I bailed last night, I caught them this morning.
You fuckin guys are alright, ya know that?
4: Your view on the use of private contractors, such as Blackwater, in a war zone?
I believe that Blackwater violates the intent of the 2nd Amendment which declares “a well-regulated militia as being necessary to the security of a free State.” Blackwater, and the almost 200 other organizations like them are almost completely UNregulated. The military code does not apply to them, which is highly problematic. Additionally, I do not believe it is in the best interests of the US tax payers to have to pay these contractors. Organizations like Blackwater are driving up our defense costs. US tax payers pay for the training of military experts, like SEALS. The cost of such training is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. After completing this training, they receive military pay. Unfortunately, Blackwater type organizations can pay up to $1500 per day as compared to $1500 per week and we lose many as soon as they are able. This hurts the US tax payer even more because now the military has to pay exorbitant re-enlistment bonuses to try to keep them. Then who ends up paying them their new large contract salaries? The US tax payers again.
I remember that TV series about the 60’s, with the girl who danced on some TV show. They had Nick Lashay portraying Tom Jones, even let him sing. It was so fucking wrong on so many levels. Nick Lashay sounded like a little kid doing a bad imitation. Way too high a voice for that.
I remember that too, but in the very early ’90s, I went to a WB studio party and Tom Jones was the band. I was blown the FUCK away. His band was tighter than the tightest snare drum head and Jones was spellbinding. He did his hits, the blues, rock and roll, techno, you name it, that cat can do it…
He is a global treasure. It will be sad when he finally leaves us, but what a legacy!
Totally like late late nite.

Wow, things are looking up here in Redneckville.

latest ARG poll gives GWs asshole better job approval ratings than HE gets- on the other hand- McCain seems to have a minor surge goin against Obama…
Too early for anything significant- but Obama would sleep better if it were goin the other way..

Right now, Team McCain needs to go huge on this “Obama was against the Surge™” crap. What else do they have? The economy?
And as long as Team Obama allows the perception that the Surge™ worked, and doesn’t go all-out to disprove it, McCain wins the argument.

There was a carbonated beverege called Surge for a while.
As I recall, it was not successful.
Don’t see them around now, anyhow.

Life without a Hunter in congress would be very pleasant- or a Bilbray- or an Issa….
Just thinkin about it makes me want a margarita.

Someone needs to ask RGJoe about New Orleans. Soon.
It’s WAY early- and the polls are lagging behind events by a week and a half- but this ain’t lookin like a runaway for Obama at this point.
Joe is not with us.
Joe is not with Hary Reid.
Joe is with Joe.
My Pleasure—
It may be an omen
Obama’s in favor of the surge- he just wants to move it
