I’ve titled this one "Bloggers Row, RightAmerica."
Note: I’m still not sure why the San Antonio Express News reported this weekend there were "500 conservative bloggers" at the RightAmerica counter-conference in Austin. When I was there at midday, at its height, there weren’t even 500 people — looked closer to 200 to me — in attendance, let alone 500 bloggers. Guess we’re all bloggers now …

That’s just pitiful… Hi, Dave!
Fluffing !
And a wonderful thing, too.
Hey David
Hey, Dave! Venturing into the belly of the beast I see. Looks more like an anemic kitten than a mighty lion to me.
OT – Is your in-laws’ place affected by the Lindberg Lake fire?
I’m concerned about the fellow with the blue shirt at the table. Is he dead, or just vomiting?
david!
That is an awesome photo of the power of the wingnut blogosphere! Dave, you were very brave to go anywhere near that overwhelming power!
Not in the least particle OT there is this from Editor and Publisher. Spew alert…
we took a prettier picture, didn’t we?
A mere squad of the vaunted 101st Keyboardists… They’re getting weak in their enthusiasm…! ;-)
I think we get a better crowd here at Late Night on a slow day. Their movement is disintegrating around them and they are grasping at straws. McCain Campaign is self destructing by the minute. Pathetic really. Almost enough to make me fell pity.
Nah. Kick in the ‘nads and make sure they stay down.
thanks.
statesman had an editorial thingy yesterday apologizing for Sunday’s article.
that E&P article is a hoot – i love the update at the end by the reporter’s ex-wife
Dave, Have you provided your version of events re: the freeper fact finding/exploratory committee or is the rude pundit’s story fairly consistent with your perspective?
In fairness, I seem to recall that the news articles referred to everyone at the first YearlyKos as bloggers, too.
John Yoo looks on as Laurel and Hardy of the 101st Fighting Keyboardists contemplate their navels.
Their “movement” needs to buried once and for all. They deserve, as a result their own actions, absolutely no mercy whatsoever. It’s a matter of life and death for the innocent mothers, children, and people of America and beyond.
Their ideology centers around an “I got mine” attitude, which will always lead to mass death and destruction as they gleefully mock those who are born with a bad hand to play in the card game of life. We must never let the history of the last 30+years to repeat itself. It’s imperative.
When I was there at midday, at its height, there weren’t even 500 people — looked closer to 200 to me — in attendance, let alone 500 bloggers. Guess we’re all bloggers now …
Boogers. They meant to say boogers.
That, is a sad photograph.
That’s what they brought to Austin to meet the left head on, as they said? They all look about 12 and bored to tears.
Should have sent some people dressed in Arab garb to walk through and maybe even pray, just to see the right-tards wet their pants.
Oh, absolutely. The conservative movement is like a nasty bar fighter. You can’t turn your back and walk away just because you knocked him down or else he will get up and bust a chair over your head. Once he is down you have to stomp and kick him until he cannot get up again. We need to drive a stake through their heart, stuff their mouths with garlic, decapitate them, and finally burn the corpse so it can never rise again.
dugg and thank to Thomas Mifflin for opening it
What an old softie you are./s :)
Yep.
Heh, that they would’ve…! Aloha, IntelVet!
How does NBC’s Andrea Mitchell find time to be with Alan Greenspan when she seems to be in a perpetual state of cupping John McCain’s balls?
-G
P.S. Is anyone going to check the shithouse on the Straight Talk Express to see if that’s where John McCain stashed his honor?
Pathetic. They just lie, just like they lie every two seconds on the teevee that the polls are neck and neck..
Liars. Torture supporters. War mongerers. War Profiteers. Domestic spies.
Ain’t it great to be a Repukelican.
Oh, yeah, and fiscally responsible.
Barf.
Oh he sold that to Bush and Hagee and the rest so he could embarrass the Republican Party and the nation this fall.
Sounds like a Saturday night in Dick Cheney’s lair.
she’s in a race to the big finish with cbs
As Winston Churchill cabled home when he was informed of his mother-in-law’s death and had been asked about funeral arrangements:
“Embalm, cremate and bury. Take no chances.”
Yeah, I heard her completely distort what Obama had said right before her BS. One cannot believe her lying eyes or her lying lies.
SOS
Well, geez. if you’re gonna be picky :)
Haven’t heard that word for decades, yet still love it — barf. Perfect.
The screen is coocoo…
Refresh is…gone….
The last bit is actually the full treatment for the destruction of a vampire. Oh, and I forgot the salt. You are supposed to pack the mouth and throat with salt.
I’m sorry, I’m in a really bad….mindset…tonight…apologies all around…
McCain is turning into a gutter crawling wretch. At least he’s ruined whatever shards of a reputation he had left. All the better for Janet Napolitano to send him packing in 2010.
Then maybe Cindy will dump him for a guy who’s breath doesn’t reek of Moxie.
-G
hard refresh works… are you having problems?
Have we considered the possibility that rethugs don’t need to blog or use the Internet or even the phone system in order to communicate? That the wost of them can quite possibly use the bile that they all have as a type of communications medium? :)
Kick in the ‘nads and make sure they stay down.
Hey now – that was my fraternity basketball team’s name! No kickin’ The Nads.
And of course, the chant from the crowd was always “Go – Nads!!”
ARG has the Blameless One at 21% approval.
-G
I’ve lost my refresh toolbar, etc…oy vey..I’m riding shotgun down the avalanche tonight….rotten night.
Reminds me of a line from a student paper the one time I was forced to teach the Anthropology of Religion. He stated that because the Australian Aborigines had pure minds they could communicate telekinetically. That was his word.
“Show text” has been gone for anyone using Firefox. And the new comment notification has been gone for a while too. I seem to recall that they put in the new comment notifier because everyone mashing F5 every 2 minutes was overloading the servers… The squirrels need to be put on a different brand of kibble.
Is there another way to refresh via keystrokes?
I’m in Firefox 2.0.
LS if you are on a PC, you can use your F5 button – but it sounds like maybe you should reboot to clear your system and see if that helps
On the Mac, Command-R
On the PC, F5
Heh. I was once in an Econ 101 class where someone actually referred to a “universal pancreas.” Well, it’s sorta like a panacea, I guess… I damn near fell off my seat, with the vision of a dripping gland in a red cape…
Yep. Show Comment doesn’t work for me either in Firefox.
F5! I’ll try that.
Firefox’s latest version is 3.0.1
I still have (show text) in Firefox, at least for now. No new comment notification, but at least can use refresh in toolbar.
the show text glitch is a firefox specific issue.. it works well in IE :(
On the PC Control-R has worked for me too.
My comment on the paper was, “Did they use Morse code?”
I just switched to 2.0 about 2 weeks ago, maybe 3.0.1 will be better.
BTW, F5 works. Thanks.
make sure to watch colbert tonight, is hilarious.
wish i would have taped it.
nite
I downloaded it when it first came out (part of the official largest download ever) a few weeks ago. Seems to work fine and I have not had any problems before this.
Nite dmac.
FFox 2.0.0.16 is much better than earlier 2.x versions.
thanks for the heads up and g’nite dmac
Gone, now! Hello all without (show text).
telekinesis… I knew that they had to have some extrasensory means of rigging elections. Rover simply wills those hanging chads back into their punch holes…..
I’m off to visit Morpheus. Sleep well, pups.
Happened that way to me as well. There one minute and gone the next – all in the same thread.
Thanks for the Firefox info everyone!

I just switched to 2.0 about 2 weeks ago, maybe 3.0.1 will be better.
I switched to FF 3.0.1 about a month ago – hated it – it crashed about once per hour. so I uninstalled it and went back to 2.0.
fwiw.
Anybody know if FF 3.0.1 has the bugs worked out yet?
g’nite marion
Dolly is outside…gusting…maybe that’s it.
Let me throw in a comment about the San Antonio Express News. They are a consertive rag that endorsed Bush and all Republicans. As their market share shrivels, they continue to allow all things Republican be published and wonder why they are losing market share in the largely liberal population of San Antonio. Did I mention that I don’t like the San Antonio Express News?

It has been fine until about an hour ago…I know the site has been having growing pains….but otherwise no problems…but we are experiencing the outer bands and “energy” of Hurricane Dolly…just south of Austin…
Sigh, just like love, right?

Embarrassed, Sorry my friend.
Thanks dmac…I’m at the point I’m looking for rain…
No biggie. They were all long ago. Took me a while, but I finally learned my lesson.
Still learning…darnitt!
Dave, who you kidding, man? Another librul hit job here. I’m sure the corridors were lined with righteous bloggers by the dozens. And did you check the stalls in the privies? How about the bar(s)? Most importantly, the private hospitality suites. Stuffed with Conservatives! Stop trying to downplay the importance and genuineness of Conservative boogers — er — bloggers! You’re gonna have to do a little better with the Photoshop before you’ll fool anybody with bogus pictures like that.
I regard “conservatives” as “control freaks”….and then they turn into “money freaks”…no matter what…
I just think of them as “freaks” and leave it at that. They come in way to many varieties to try to categorize all of them.
their brand of conservatism is to conserve everything for their own personal private use and to hell with anyone else
DrDick: I like to think of “freaks” as in flying my freak flag…and such….I should have said “control obsessed”….
Exactly. They are parasites.
Control freaks are people who have no idea that they can be happy.
DING!
It is like I have always said. The only ting conservatives seek to conserve is their own power, wealth, and privilege.
Control freaks are mistaken to believe that control IS happy.
They are for the individual, no compassion for anyone else.
The act of attempting control is like trying to piss up a rope. All you do is get wet.

Confident, eh? Nite, DD!
Hey. I haven’t had the view new comments thing for a long time.
Gotta hit the hay soon. Just wanted to pop in and see how everybody was doing. And see hwo everybody thinks BO did today. I’m concerned. This is a really long trip and it’s hard to be on top of your game day after day after day. And so many of them are just itching to nail the guy if he makes one slip. Whatever BO says in Israel, Lieberman will be all over him. No matter what he says.
By the way. Back to the post. I’ve seen the pictures from the dueling blogger conferences. our folks = cool. them = weenie scumbags. I can just tell.
I am concerned, too, about tomorrow. But what a great day it was for BO today, yes? (not counting the “Israel … a friend of Israel”} slip.
Slightly OT
It’s official. The United States is now on the list in England of countries where they will not extradite anyone to due to the possibility they may be tortured. The official announcement also stated quite bluntly that they can’t believe anything this administration says since they have been lied to so often.
Nice. We’re right up there with Libya, Egypt, etc etc.
Did you see the new poll that Jews like Obama twice as much as LIEberman?
They keep saying Obama has a ‘problem with Jews’ but if that’s a problem, everyone should be so lucky!
tech crew is working on fixing it bfl
they miss it as much as we do (laughing) i think the mod squad has reversed the mojo flow backstage – tech is now walking softly around the mod squad – usually everyone leaves tech alone cause of all the cursing, duct tape, and wd40 flying through the air.
lets just saw we have let them know, bless their little hearts
But, it wouldn’t matter if HoJo jumped all over him…
isn’t canada adding us to that list too?
it will made it easier to ask for asylum in more countries if mcsame wins the general
Thanks, Suzanne.
I keep clicking on (show text). Will work again soon I’m sure.
I have been softly laughing to myself for the last couple of days – imagining the McCain campaign peeps frantically tearing their hair out, hiding in corners, fleeing for the exits as McCain roars and curses at them because all the media attention is on Obama and they are ignoring him (for once!)
He is mad as hell because he just found out that the reason the three news anchors went with Obama and not with him is because Obama invited them. McCain didn’t so of course they didn’t go. Ha!
It’s LaTE nIGHT! Off topic is the topic! Or is that late, late night?
I’ve ‘heard’ that but not seen an official announcement. I haven’t looked too hard but would not be too surprised.
Well, considering we seemed to be having a goodly computer tech discussion besides the hurrycane stuff….
Oh well.
And he submits an Op-Ed and NYT gives it back with a big, red F on it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. They are wigging out. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Did you read them? Obama’s sounds like a college thesis and McCain’s like freshman English Comp (that’s high school freshman by the way).
tis more late late nite but there tends to be lots of flex the closer we get to late late posting time
late nite is kinda transitional between the business of the day and the free wheeling of late late nite (well, that is how i think of it). late nite can be either very very serious or very snark.
Oh, sorry. I wasn’t complaining. Hope you didn’t take it that way. Just wanted to let ya know that everybody is having trouble with that. I’m making do, no problem. It’ll get fixed.
Of course, Murdoch’s Post published it, tho!
I haven’t gotten arouund to reading McCain’s. Hey, they’re letting him have a do-over. Think he’ll resubmit? Or would he rather be a victim of “media bias”?
But now the wing-nuts are screeching like a bunch of harpies about the NYT being the ‘ultra-liberal-moonbat’ paper. “See this proves it” and “They are infringing on his right to free speech” and “This is blatant librul censorship” and “the press is in love with Obama and this proves it” ad nauseum.
I saw somebody who was in te Clinton Admin (I forget who) and she said they used to submit Op-Eds and get turned down all the time.
I think he prefers the ‘victim’ role.
After all, his constant and never-ending reminders of his POW (victim) status…
(not a psychologist)
well, they’re just being fair and balanced, no?
I bet they didn’t get their shorts in a knot and act like it was the end of the world. They just wrote another one and tried again.
That picture, is there a goat under that desk?
Huge props David, and The Rude one, and Stark for heading over there.
You can be damn glad I wasn’t there, it appears no one had arrangements for bail.
McInsane knows whoiz hiz daddy. ASSociated Press all the way baby on tonight’s Yahoo frontpage:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200…..a_surge_dc
Hysterical when “respected” “news” outlets report on other “news” outlets’ use of Repube-appoved storylines. It’s a twofer!
I’ve noticed the last few days where Conglomerate Media outlets have been quoting Obama with extreme use of the all the “umms…” and “ahhhss…” included in his quotes. Generous use of dashes as well to emphasize Obama’s speech patterns. It seems really odd, especially considering McInsane’s inability to speak clearly at all, but his quotes are nice and neat in the articles.
Be sure of this – whenever it seems Obama is getting fair coverage in BigMedia, it’ll be followed by an onslaught of McInsane fluffing.
no problem – we had discussed it downstairs and it was a good time to remind any late to the party about it
In case we forgot the first Gulf War, see Three Kings now playing on HBO.
great film
I think it’s hysterical since they also haven’t done that with Bush – of course it would be difficult to add the constant smirk and the inappropriate grinning as he talks about death and destruction. And when he really fumbles up they resort to non-direct quotes so they can say what they think he said. Or meant. Or something.
Veerrrrry interdrestring.
Funny, tragic, and scary as hell. I was urged to watch, and now I think that it is a classic.
Just read McCain’s. It really, really — and I’m not just saying this ’cause I’m a D and he’s an R — blows.
Obama is having some trouble with having been opposed to the surge. It’ll be Ok, though. I’ve seen it but don’t have it…. Anybody have a link to all the times McCain predicted victory in the past? Did I hear him say “we’re not winning. We’ve won!” Did he say that? he’s been wrong every other time he said that. I wish the BO people would make a point of that.
I also think they are picking up on the concern trolls comments that Obama cannot give a speech without a teleprompter. (Neither can McCain but of course that’s different. Oh wait, McCain can’t give a speech with one either)
My impression is that when Obama doesn’t have a prepared speech, he is really thinking about what he’s going to say next – rather than put his foot in it every other sentence like someone I could mention. So, his speech pattern is quite deliberate, and does contain pauses and stops.
At least when he does speak, the sentences are grammatically correct, the words are pronounced correctly. And he makes sense. Whew!
Yeah. That was her point. getting an op-ed rejeceted by the NYT times happens. Alot. Even to the president. So why should McCain get a free ride? Those people are always saying decisions must be “merit-based”. McCain’s article sucked it. That woulda gotten him a 2 on 12th Grade FCAT.
I agree.
Well, this is one of those nuance things again. The original ‘purpose’ of the surge was to: give some breathing room for the Iraqi government so they could do their oil deal, fix the conflicts in the government, and do something about the local and regional elections.
Hmmm.
Seems none of those things have been accomplished.
Yet.
So…..the surge has NOT worked as intended.
Of course, now the goal of the surge is to:
decrease the level of violence so we can …
I forget what’s supposed to happen next in neo-con land.
i think you are correct – they are slamming him and fluffing mcsame
I was noticing that when I was watching the press conference (and that he wasn’t sweating!) Coherent sentences. Sometimes too many of them. But that’s OK.
I tackled HoJo and AIPAC in today’s post… AIPAC Must Be Reeling…
See Obama is making the points that yes, some good things have happened in Iraq but :1) they aren’t all necessarily attributable to the surge; 2) there’s still problems; and 3) too soon to tell if surge worked. Nobody’s listening.
house burning upstairs
I would rather have too many actual sentences than too many nonsense words. Or too many stupid ‘gaffes’. Or too many lies. Or too many arrogant and dismissive remarks of any kind at all.
I heard Ed Schultz claiming that our military is paying many of the various fighting forces to lay low for a while in an effort to calm the violence. Now McInsane can robotically keep talking about the “success” of the “surge.”
Haven’t had time to check through that idea, but seems reasonable to me. This entire Invasion of Iraq has been a giant PR offensive.
Seeing some of the international coverage recently, not sure overall violence has decreased that much anyway, so it’s all smoke and mirrors across the board.
Exactly so.
I just looked at that picture at the top. Turds. How did Niewert even get in, much less be allowed to hang out (for awhile) in his Hawaiian shirt? That must have been one bummed out group – I mean seriously depressed – if they didn’t even recognioze an obvious liberal (= hip person) in their midst.
Regarding us paying people, that part is true, mostly. We offered $300 per month to the Sunni Sahwa/Awakenings members if they would stop shooting at us. Of course we haven’t actually delivered on that promise.
There is less violence if you only count troop deaths – but my impression that civilian deaths are the same or slightly up. Some decrease at the beginning of the surge but a lot of that was due to completion of ethnic cleansing and us building fences between the various sectarian neighborhoods.
Right on cue.
The next headline I just saw on Yahoo’s frontpage:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politi…..tico/11971
With this lovely passage:
Followed by several
talking pointsquotes from McInsane listed one after another without any challenge of context. Have you ever seen anything even remotely close to this sort of article about Obama?!?It goes along with their whole mindset – they are so selfish and so self-centered they only notice stuff when someone slaps them with a dead fish.
Of course not. That would be ACTUALLY fair and balanced and we can’t have that now, can we?
If we don’t deliver, they gonna start shooting at us again, no? then what’ll be the excuse? Are they gonna try to blame everything on that mosque getting blown up. Worked so well last time.
I don’t think that most americans give a flyin fuck about the surge and even less about who was right or wrong about it. They just think that eight years in mess o potamia is too fuckin long.
Let McBush argue about how fuckin surge smart he is. No one’s listening.
The fuckin surge is so over.
Oh yeah, he thinks it’s fun alright. That’s why he said “I’m a big boy”.
Like I said, screaming, bellowing and cursing. Throwing stuff at TV. More screaming and cursing. Cindy hiding under bed. Staffers cowering in bathrooms and closets. More throwing stuff.
Tee Hee.
Know what I like? The problems they have dealing with people who are rich and…… gasp… Democrats. They accuse them of being hypocrites. “He says he thinks we should help poor people but he’s rich, ya know.” Thuis applies to the Kennedy’s, Bruce Springsteen, actors and actresses in general and a whole buncha others.
Asked whether he believes he’d had unfair media coverage, McCain replied: “I don’t think so. I think …it is what it is. I’m a big boy. And I’m enjoying every minute of the campaigning. And I’m certainly not complaining. And, in fact, I think it’s fun to watch.”
He’s a pussy. They haven’t stopped complaining since Obama hit that shot from downtown (the first one). Before that, even.
No, the whole thing will be Obama’s fault because he ’set a time-table to get out’ (code for time to lose or cut-and-run).
Just like the rise in gas prices is his fault because according to McSlime ‘he doesn’t want drilling in America’.
That’s right. We are going to shut down every single oilfield anywhere in America because Obama said so and that’s why we have $4 a gallon gas.
Seems like a good crowd ya got here, but i really gotta turn in. Night dogs!!
Let’s see. Just what is the definition of ‘rich’?
Obama makes about $187,000 a year as a US Senator. Michelle is currently unemployed. They do have a $1.2 million house – but I have friends who live in the San Francisco area and their houses are worth that much (even after the drop) and they paid about $75,000 for them 25 or 30 years ago. So that is pretty relative. The Obama’s do not have a net worth of $1.2 million since they still owe money on the house and are making payments on it.
Now, McCain on the other hand….
Sen Kennedy is rich. No argument there.
Sen Kerry is – but it’s also his wife, as in McCain’s case.
John Edwards is – but certainly not on those levels.
Let’s see, Princess Diana was rich – and an actual Princess of the Realm. She wanted to help poor people.
Prince Charles – heir to the British Throne is the titular head of 67 charities – most of them to help poor people.
So where is it written that if you are rich you cannot possibly actually WANT to help poor people.
And even worse – actually DO it?
Former President Carter building habitat houses and teaching people in Africa how to strain their drinking water to get the parasites out.
John Edwards in New Orleans after Katrina with crews of college kids helping to rehab houses.
Aaarrgh! Makes me want to punch them in the nose. When have we EVER seen a Rethug actually help poor people?
Nite!
Sure, they don’t know about specifics, but it plays into the false narrative that McInsane is the foreign policy and military expert. Panama John still polls way ahead in those categories, and this false “right about the surge” theme helps strengthen that.
