First al-Maliki, now Brown (h/t DanK):
Although he is refusing to set a detailed timetable for withdrawal, it is clear Mr Brown is in agreement with the US presidential candidate Barack Obama on the need for military action in Afghanistan to take priority. Both appear to be working to a 16-month timetable.
"Mr Brown"= UK PM Gordon Brown, waving buh-bye to the Bush Error.

Wow! Yeehaw!!
are we going to have to spend the next 4 years protesting the democrat’s war?
You just celebrating because I owe you a coke from downstairs?
Yes, at least. MIC is the poison that binds both parties above all else.
Hahaha…no, I just love it when those who sided with Bushco bail from their agenda….
No celebration of more war in Afghanistan at all, but it is a first “crack” in British solidarity with Bushco…
Adios, MOFO!
Our allies are going to throw the mother of parties the day shrub leaves, aren’t they?
Bush Error Error Error Error Error Error Error Error ad infinitum …..
Thanks PW. Almost a little encouraging.
Wish you could have been there Friday, too. You, me and Loo Hoo? Look out world!
I read somewhere this weekend.. expectations of up to a million Germans might attend Obama’s speech.
Whoa.
waving buh-bye to the Bush Error.
wow, that’s a broad statement - so many to choose from. Poor guy’s arm could fall off.
LOL! Exactly. It would be nice if we could do a ‘control/alt/delete’ to get rid of him.
well maybe better to be prepared… than to be surprised and disappointed?
trying to look for a silver lining here….
yeah.. and McShrub has a pathetic 6% poll rating in Germany, concentrated almost exclusively in the above 60 demographic.
Bwhahahaha…OMG…3 of “us”…fun, fun, fun…
I wonder what George H.W. Bush knows that we don’t know, because he said today in Maine (when Johnny McTeleprompter was here) that Barack Obama will get a warm welcome in Germany. Maybe it’s because Barack Obama is not George Bush, you know, the guy whose family financed the Nazis? Could be.
Kay, you have been cracking me up all day. Especially the sideways thing earlier…
But I’d rather see the televised Hague trial, wouldn’t you?
I dreaming of a DELETED BUSH OH what joy it would be to the world… Joy to the World the Bush is done!! Let peace come to the world or something like that:>)O
OT: We Gots PIX! Sunday Night Firepup dinner. 6 Central Texas firepups plus ecahnomics, eating in the garden room of a vegetarian restaurant.
OT - looks like glenn needs some of suz’s brain bleach (thanks to thomas friedman). does he know where to find it?
thanks for all your pics betsy. don’t mind missing nrn at all - but would have loved to have been there for all the meet ups.
O
K Pups The DIGG is open so get your shovels and start Digging!!
Great pics TexBetsty!
Looks yummy, Muffin! I see Da Spook has the seat of honor.
Thanks Wangdangdoodle. About the only time I’m not in a good playful mood is when a neocon comes to a thread. ;-)
FYI, If you’re ever in the Atlanta area, let me know because we have a great Vegetarian Restaurant.. Thanks for the pictures.
You mean, “Joy to the world, the Bush is gone! Dah dah…dah dee…dah dahhhhh!”. LOL Or something like that.
The planet is going to party hard when Georgie, Dickie and the rest of the Whores are gone!
Well, there’s only 2 peeps here that automatically activate my scroller… and I haven’t seen t’other one in a while.
Thanks Betsy..almost as good as being there..only without the calories.
shovel, shovel, shovel…done.
I really should start saving up for some really good champagne for January…
Do you have a 6% link handy, por favor?
I’ve come close to spinning the scroller right off the mouse. LOL
Really missed you, LS, but got to meet so many cool homies.
First Canada then England move against torture and now this and it all happens around the time of Obama’s trip.
Bush being paranoid has to be getting the message that the world is conspiring to help elect Obama.
Prime Minister Maliki saying he supported America withdrawing troops must be part of the conspiracy too.
For a people person like Bush this should send him drinking again hard. There is no way with his paranoia that he misses the message.
couple this with the Brown Government announcing they will no longer honor certain extradition agreements with Bushco . . and we got a major fissure
Funny thing how flipping off world leaders with “goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter!” makes them want to return the favor, eh?
how many bad things does it say about me that I enjoyed that comment?
I hope you come back and we can all get together. This was an impossible weekend for me…I really would have enjoyed being with you guys.
I’d hate to be Barney this week.
And we would have loved having you! Tell ya what … you name the date and location of the next meet up and we will come!
Exactly. It’s almost as if they are “daring” to breakaway finally. The world is united against Bushco’s actions, and united we will all stand…together.
On Greenwald’s second thread of the day, a commenter posed the challenge to name one country that agrees with the US now. That was several hours ago, and I haven’t seen a single response. Just in the last two days now we have this UK announcement about a withdrawal timeline on top of yesterday’s announcement that the US can no longer be believed when it says it doesn’t torture.
Thanks again to all the Firepups hospitality in Austin. I had a great time!
maybe we can send telepathic messages to Barney for him to “nibble”(sharply)on Condi’s ankles the next time he sees her. That would earn him some points for sure.
Yes
we arethey will … *g*I’ll try to work on that…okay? I’d love to have everyone come to my place, but things have been so very complicated this year, which is why I’ve met Wangdang in Austin when I’m there…like this Saturday…or 8/9…
Hope the Dem leadership is hearing this loud and clear - other countries agree with the progressives. Maybe the Dems will care about that even if they don’t listen to us.
I heard about that soiree … how did Houston survive ? *g*
Or Jon McCain’s Spin Doctor Bush/McCain’s foreign policy *cough bullshit cough* experience edge is getting unraveled by facts on the ground in Iraq and Europe.
Without foreign policy and the war McCain has just what to run on?
Jim - I’ve gotta tell you, I think in every news story I saw about Pelosi’s ‘non Q and A” session at NN, there has been a mention of your action standing and displaying the Constitution. I think I read your name explicitly in one story but saw mention in just about every one i read. The man who stood up to Nancy Pelosi - you’re famous.
Humpty Dumpty…
It just means that Bush41 watches World News on other channels besides CNN & Fox … the world is waiting for Obama because it means the nightmare will have been reversed, even if modestly …
Gawd…that would be novel…
I strongly suspect that we’re going to be out of both places shortly, and the Taliban will control everything in Afghanistan once again, and women will be enslaved once again. Women doctors, lawyers — any sort of women with careers and educations — who had enjoyed the freedom of movement under the Soviets and the US-UK coalition will go back to committing suicide again rather than be reduced to begging on the streets (which is their only “career option” under the Taliban).
Kinda scares me when Prescott Bush’s son makes statements like that…just sayin’. He’s a creeple.
Dumpster Muffin ?!!
Bwahahahaha …
maybe the Republic of the Marshall Islands?
Not a one as far as I’m concerned.
Do you ever get a song stuck in your head, and suddenly you hear what they’re singing, and you realize why it’s stuck?
Recently I’ve been hearing that Michelle Branch song, “Goodbye To You.” I don’t even like it (although it was in an awesome episode of Buffy).
I think now I know.
That is another awful thought.
jim is also, imo, a fucking genius.
I’d like to see our media agree with most of America for a change. But our press is controlled by the same moneyed interests that control our politics, and that has meant we know far less than do many foreigners about our own country. (Didn’t see much on the evening TV news about Maliki’s backing Obama’s troop withdrawal timetable, did you?)
As you have stated “BULLSHIT” that’s all Mcpain has to run on!! Doesn’t Cindy own a ranch or two???
A-yep!
The one that’s been going through my head lately is DEVO’s “Mongoloid”, and I shudder to think why.
And what can and will we do about that? Zip. We will have abandoned the women of Afghanistan and Iraq.
You mean Austin? It didn’t. Or I almost didn’t!
Is it bad to feel Schadenfreude toward bad people?
Schadenfreude (IPA: [ˈʃaːdənˌfʁɔʏ̯də] Audio (German) (help·info)) is enjoyment taken from the misfortune of someone else. The word referring to this sentiment has been borrowed from German by the English language
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude
BushScadenFreude (my own word) is the making money off of other people’s misfortune. Which mister war for oil has done, certainly laughing at Bush for his failure’s to make a buck off of misery is less wrong.
Really? The only mention I saw was in the ACLU blog, and in there it was just that “a few” people were holding up their copies. They also had my name on the picture of my hand on the Austin paper’s website, but that’s all I saw. My blog post did get a ton more hits than usual, though.
He still gets daily CIA briefings, besides being well traveled … I’m sure he knows only too well, the level of disdain the World has for his son …
The lyrics:
“Of all the things I believe in
I just want to get it over with
tears from behind my eyes
but I do not cry
Counting the days that past me by
I’ve been searching deep down in my soul
Words that I’m hearing are starting to get old
Looks like I’m starting all over again
The last three years were just pretend and I say
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I love
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
I still get lost in your eyes
And it seems like I can’t live a day without you
Closing my eyes till you chase my thoughts away
To a place where I am blinded by the light but it’s not right
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
Ohhh yeah
It hurts to want everything & nothing at the same time
I want whats yours and I want whats mine
I want you but I’m not giving in this time
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
We the stars fall and I lie awake
Your my shooting star
Sorry … I’m just a Canuck, who dudn’t unnerstand Murkan Geography … *g*
i haven’t heard things being so grand right now - the northern alliance warlords are no picnic either.
here’s my idea. we pull our military out of afghanistan and as we go we take any woman (or girl) who wants to go and bring them here (or the country of their choice, if permitted) with a stipend and access to education for life.
You know, on the Texas/Connecticut border…
He has the wonderful GOP/Media Complex covering for him at all times. The NYT might bother to investigate and debunk the “Maliki was mistranslated” nonsense that Bush and McCain’s people used to try and deflect the news that Maliki agrees with Obama’s timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, but just bringing up the silly “mistranslated” nonsense in the first place served to keep the story off of TV and drive-time radio, the places where most Americans still get their news.
Wow and I was there to watch History! If Nancy goes down as Speaker or for war crimes Jim will be heralded as a Harbinger of Doom! For Center Dems, the Status Quo etc!
OT: can someone please give Radovan Karadzic a haircut? The Eddie Munster look doesn’t work for war criminals.
There is a sane resolution to Afghanistan and ousting the Taliban. Europe, Asia, even South America knows the resolution but BushCo has no interest in that so it will have to wait until after January, 2009.
At the most, Bush will move some troops from Iraq to Afghanistan as a token but as in all things, he’s just running out the clock …
Great thanks to Jim White, I owe you a couple drinks, should you ever make it up to Toronto !
With the theme playing today of how far we have fallen, I keep hearing Mary Gauthier’s “Long Way to Fall”. I searched, but there doesn’t seem to be a Youtube.
selise: Cut it out! I am overwhelmed by the genius shown daily at the Lake and often feel that I am drowning.
Strangely enough, my local Fox affiliate actually took up for Obama this morning. Thought I’d fallen through the looking glass.
It’s a nice feeling, isn’t it? The nightmare is almost over!
http://z.about.com/d/political.....esigns.jpg
No matter if he stays in, resigns, is impeached, or goes to the Hague, the last 8 years have been the most criminal ever. There is no denying that fact. Having the most powerful country in the world acting like 2-bit terrorists was scary for the whole planet.
Okay, going to bed on that note. Have a great night everyone! ;-)
Works for me — that’s pretty close to the deal we gave to the Hmong and other folk who worked for us during our little adventure in Southeast Asia.
What really frosts me about the whole Afghanistan thing is that the Taliban had been abusing and degrading Afghan women — especially educated women — for years, yet when does the West get upset? When the Taliban started blowing up stone Buddhas.
LOL … did you hear McCain talking about the Iraq/Pakistan border ?
How low have the Repub party sunk ?
Nighters, Kay.
G’nite Kay !
Wow — that is something.
Then again, Rupert Murdoch has more than a bit of the Don King about him. He knew that Tony Blair was going to stomp John Major’s Tories into the dirt back in th 1990s, so he lined up with Blair right away.
Jane Hamsher at comment 61….hello!!!
Sure did, he needs to take Jr High geography over again.
How low? Lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut, as they say around these parts.
For a minute, I thought they’d captured Roger Daltrey … *g*
gordon brown was on the news last night, being himself, saying what you said……but more importantly, the next leaders of great britain were interviewed doing the same thing……..exactly……left no doubt. both sides of parliament, that struck me. both sides.
and for pups thinking about next year’s netroots nation, an invitation. i left a few comments about it in the last thread, among them, that maybe a few could fly into columbus, my friends and i pick you up and come to athens and stay at my house and theirs, then travel to pittsburgh, then back to athens, then fly out of columbus……for one, it might be cheaper to fly into columbus than pittsburgh, for two, you can see athens, quite a place….i would love for you to see it……..AND if we drive from here, you get to see the countryside that leads to pittsburgh…….ohio is known as a melting pot of glacial history, go a few counties and the terrain changes, so, a travel from seohio to pittsburgh is quite a sight for the eyes, is really an amazing car ride. puts my mind in a different place and it’s only 4 hours………
and here in athens, well, everyone should see athens, it’s a special place. and i have room for a few, more if you’re willing to sleep on an air mattress. some like to sleep outside here. that means even more can stay. my flickr mail leads to real mail……click on my name, fdl members group, sign up you chiicken shits, and the members group leads to me…….
everyone should see this area before they die, it is a magical place. that’s why i’m still here. they feed me so i can feed you.
Hi Jane at 61, sure would like to have seen you in Austin!
jane–i’m always hoping that people listen to that inner jukebox…..glad you are.
What is worse than that is, the women in Afghanistan and Iraq are worse off today but nary a word in the MSM …
*makes mental note not to read Petro comments with a mouth full of beer*
Next year its in Pittsburgh?
i think the west only got upset when there was a desire to convince the proles that our glorious war had some moral justification (think about the pr blitz re food drops when we first invaded).
there are lots of things to be outraged about - but we only hear about the ones that are politically convenient from the corporate media.
My daughter is a grad and her college had the very best motto. The college has gone through some exquisitely tough times over the past several years, but through the persistence, hope, support, and just plain pigheadedness of the students and alumni, Antioch just might survive: “Be ashamed to die until you win some victory for humanity.” Women are humanity too.
It does sound like a very good plan just remind us all 6 months or so in advance.
Evening, all-
Awesome pix, Betsy. I so wanted to be there…(sigh). Maybe next year. So what did Nancy say in response to your sign, Jim? I agree, a stroke of genius.
And Poppy knows that history (”we’ll all be dead,” per Junja) will conflate the two Bushes; that conflation will not flatter the Presidency that was 41.
Allow me…
ROFL … I’ve been off teh toobz for a week, lots of pent up wisecracks emerging …
And I’ve missed you!
That’s the scuttle, middish August.
That’s putting it mildly, Junya has stained the Bush name for all history … worse than Prescott’s links to the Nazis …
I didn’t see any real evidence that she saw me holding up my pocket Constitution, but she probably had to since I was directly between her and the Code Pink folks and right on the aisle they kept walking up to get closer to her.
Yup. They know full well who’s going to be president next year.
Saw Gina’s announcement and yes, it IS Pittsburgh. DH and I will probably go..it’s only a four hour drive for us.
One Way Out by the Allman Bros., transposed for W:
