So BillO thinks Al Gore shouldn't have been at Netroots Nation:
The fact that he went to this thing is the same as if he stepped into the Klan gathering. It’s the same. No difference.
Right. Well, I decided to call up someone who actually knows something about the Klan and what they do: Mark Potok of the SPLC. He told me:
The idea that Netroots Nation is somehow like the Klan is not only ludicrous but obscenely misleading. This is a group with a long history of murder and terrorism, and they continue to inflict it on American society. This kind of talk utterly trivializes the very real problems, the real violence and hatred, caused by the Klan and groups like them.

Now, whether or not you think that Nancy and Co. arranged for Al to be there to deflect the heat from her, it was still a masterful PR stroke, but I think from BillO’s perspective, Al is sort of this statesman now..not in the hurlyburly of politics so he did not HAVE to be there and therefore, he’s a DFH. Or a nazi..or something like that.

Just what can we do about such lies from O’Reily? Lawsuits, take away Fox’s broadcast license, insist that Fox newscasters get paid by how well informed their viewers are?

TCU, when FOX bought into the Tampa market, they won a lawsuit against two whistleblowing reporters. The crux of their defense was that the reporters were not entitled to whistleblower protection, since their is no legal requirement that the news be true. More here.

Yep. I was with my college roomate (from a long time ago) this last weekend. She listens to BOR religiously. She also says that she knows he’s a bit nuts and claims not to believe everything he says. At the same time, she has a very negative opinion of DKos. I tried to describe the site to her and admitted that there are probably offensive comments somewhere but that you’d have to really dig to find them. Her response was that a few ruin it for everyone. I did my best. Wrote down the site name for her to check out herself.
You want to know something even scarier? She thinks the whole internet should be censored. “The perfect place for all the nuts of the world to find each other”.
They were just in the news again lately, something about losing an appeal iirc.
But to get a broadcast license you have to convince the Government that you will act in the public’s best interests.

Bill-O is no more than a performance artist. Like Ms. Coulter. He long ago shed any pretense at being a reporter or even news reader. It’s hard to believe that he believes anything he says. He says whatever’s calculated to offend, because like Beck and Savage and the $400 million dollar monster Limbaugh, he’s paid by the click, the comment, the site visit, the outrage meter. Not to mention the green mail from the rage he can manipulate against the political and economic interests of his opponents.
The question for me is how will Murdoch, Ailes and Co., transition to an Obama Presidency. Murdoch has made billions by shilling for CheneyBush, via mergers, permissions to enter new businesses, media concentrations, etc., the capital gains and income from which vastly overshadow routine, “old economy” income like advertising revenue and selling news.
Much of that increase in wealth ought not to continue in the next administration. To what extent might the Democrats sell out like their friends across the aisle? And what else will Murdoch do to fill his coffers?

I just realized that I’ve already reconciled myself to there not being any domestic follow-up on the GWB admin, and that BO will give it the full Gerry Ford treatment.
I also expect a blanket pardon from Bush that doesn’t even bother to set forth each and every individual covered by name. Something along the lines of “any person who acted at the behest or instruction of the Executive Branch between January of 2001 and January of 2009.”
That would throw a wrench in the works, now wouldn’t it? Even if prosecutions were attempted, each and every one would take forever as the individual defendants would claim to covered by the blanket pardon.

I ‘heard’ one of the MSNBC bigwigs said she is on a ‘very short list’ for her own show. Yay!
Keith started the show from Los Angeles, then had Rachel on as a “guest” at about 25 past; after he interviewed her, he said that he was going back to the TV Critics meeting, where everyone wants to ask him about Rachel’s eyeshadow, so she had to take over hosting duties tonight. It was cute.

I can’t remember who it was - I read it somewhere like a newsfeed on aol or something like that. He said she was on a very short list. I was cheering and hoping it was really sooner rather than later - we need her!

It masquerades as news, fact, and truth, and the simple, clear answers they offer are very attractive to the uninformed, the misinformed, and those who have been deceived by the sheer breadth and audacity of the plan.
I am enjoying Chris Cutie from The Nation, and always like Michael Musto. I hope she gets to take them both with her from Countdown. But wouldn’t it be great if Rachel’s show featured lefty fembloggers?

I started listening to Rachel on day 1 of Air America when she did Unfiltered with Lizz Winsted and Chuck D. It was a great show. Then the local affiliate in Boston (when there was one) aired Stephanie instead so I streamed her. The show was cancelled and they moved her all over the place, the 5 am shift, and finally settled her at 6 pm. It was clear that she was brilliant and quick from the start.
If she leaves AAR, they’ve got nothing left. Nothing. Thom Hartmann is great but they borrow him from White Rose so he’s independent.
Yeah, I like him too. He looks just TOOOOOO young to be the editor of anything other than his high school yearbook! Ha!
