Mornin’, Elliott -
GAK! fred kagan spewing on C-Span; didn’t take bushco long to get one of their mouthpieces on to refute news wrt Obama’s visit. :-(
*click*
Good Morning sleepyheads,
I’m looking at one of the biggest cooties ever, Freddie
KruegerKagan on Washington Journal. Still pumping the Conquest of Iraq.He kinda looks like a young Kissinger. I think Kissinger’s a little smarter. They are equally amoral, tho.
lol!!
I’m fascinated with his warped world view
Thanks for getting this up already Elliot, I’ve got a busy day today and wanted to see what I needed to record. Parade, Dem Exec Board meeting, grad parties and fundraising calls (I need to raise $5k by the end of the month).
Looks like MTP with Gore is something to tape, but then the 2nd half of the show… Does anyone else have visions of Bayh being a future Lieberman? I still have my Gore/Lieberman signs and every time I hear Bayh on the TV, he reminds me of Joe back in 2000.
Good Luck with your fundraising, noonan.
Do you hand out tomatoes to win hearts and minds ;)
ABC has their priorities straight.
Full disclosure: IMO, the only thing duller than playing golf is golf on TV.
(Last week I happened to catch a slow motion replay – something I would have thought defied the laws of nature – slower, duller golf)
Meet The Press has improved for the obvious reason, wonder who will take over after the election. I hope not Chris “Tingles” Matthews
Over the next two weeks or so the Obama campaign is holding platform meetings. The stated purpose is to listen to what the voters have to say is important. I hold slim hope they actually will but I believe we must try. I suggest we attend these meetings and give input. You can find one near your location…

Good Morning, Fineman makes interesting comment on Matthews. He says in the Repub view one of the important factors for 3rd Bush term: Gives the Repubs more room to cover the evidence, documents decisions. More distance from where the bodies are buried the same way Bush Sr. could do for Reagan. No accusations here, just rationale. Good for him. Very pointed.
Elliott @ 3 -
Yeah, I’m a glutton for punishment…….just had to go back and see how warped he actually would be. The man has a nasty mind and a nasty face…….and that’s the nicest thing ya can say about him.
Double GAK! It’s “kagan week”; throw up now or wait ’til later?……that is the question. Only piece of truth that came out of this one’s mouth was something to the effect that “neocon is now a swear word”. Truth that!
My parents were golfers, never understood the attraction. You take a small little ball, smack it with a skinny stick all the way down a fairway and then putt it in a little hole? But then I don’t have the temperament for it, I’d have to buy a new set of clubs every time I went out. Plus it sure is a pricey hobby.
Who said golf was a good walk spoiled?

Fox News managing editor Brit Hume discusses. . .his network’s philosophy on coverage and presentation of the news and why it is unique.
That’ll be special.
Thanks druidbros,
excellent idea, we’re going to have to keep after him so he gets it right.
and thanks RevBev. that show doesn’t air here until much alter. Glad to hear Fineman talking about cover-ups. *fingers crossed* that we hold BushCo to account.
It’s amazing! Kagan could actually mouth that spew without laughing at himself. Yeah, you go ahead and fly into Baghdad commercial at your next opportunity chump. Have a pleasant flight. Be sure to go rug shopping with Lindsey and Mac while you’re there. Enjoy mingling with all the women in their gaily colored habibs. What kut ups those zany Kagans are…
I’d like you to read an open letter I posted today on my blog and in a diary at DailyKos. Please read it. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008…..uniga.html
We don’t have tomatoes ready to hand out, maybe next week. Our 42 plants have grown into a hedge taller than my 6 year old son!
To win hearts and minds I simply lay out a Progressive platform – universal health care (running against an insurance agent, no less!), tax cuts for working class, investment in alternative energy (Wisconsin, the Saudi Arabia of America thanks to cow poop!) and so on down the litany of things we believe in here. It’s working. Word is the state party (finally) did a survey of the two most Republican parts of my district, and more people identify themselves and Dems than Repub (+12% differential)!
The hard part is getting cash from the people of this district because we’re going through tough economic times across the board. I know it’s no different than 99% of the country, but the demand for my signs and other ephemera is phenomenal, and we haven’t even begun to build up our nest egg for media buys yet.
Their network policy:
We show both sides and explain why one side is wrong. If that side really isn’t wrong, we’ll make up stuff or find people to confuse you enough so you won’t be able to tell the difference. If those both fail, we’ll simply report what we think people should be thinking about.
Gotta snail mail address for contributions?
My dad is 72 years old. You’d never know it by looking at him. He golfs at least 18 holes every day. During the winter, he referees ~100 basketball games a year. He’s in much better physical condition than I am.
When he’s gone golfing and there is a tourney on, he tapes it to watch when he gets back. When men’s and women’s golf is on at the same time, he tapes one to watch after the other is done.
I don’t mind golf, but I’d rather be observing the natural world around me as I’m doing it. That’s why I don’t mind so much when my ball goes in the woods or the water!
Thanks for asking!

I keep asking them to get that on the webpage… One more call to make today :)
I am going to watch the Humester. Perverse, I know, but I marvel at his world view, and his delusion that Fox is fair and balanced. I’m surprised he’s actually retiring, too.
He’s so overbearing. I don’t think Chris Wallace gets much choice if Brit wants to come on the “Fox News All-Stars” to pontificate any given week. I always felt he pushed Tony Snow out, there must be a back story there.
Would hate to have him as a relative. Thanksgivings would be just awful, lol.
Interesting.
I just read a FT Online ‘commentary’ about how there aren’t any good jokes about Barack Obama.
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/3472…..07658.html
Beg to differ.
The latest JibJab treatment was hilarious, what with the rainbows and unicorns.
On the other hand, I didn’t think their McCain treatment was nearly so funny – rather mean-spirited.
And I can’t stand McCain.
Not trying to dredge up the whole not funny New Yorker thing again, but I am beginning to see a trend where comedians (or satirists or whatever) will use ‘political correctness’ as a crutch in explaining their own personal deficiencies.
Morning, all! I’ve been guest blogging for the past week at Feministe, and will continue for one more week. It has been a very interesting experience.
In relation to the talking heads, I just really don’t have the stomach for watching them. I let other people watch and then tell me what I missed. One of the best at dissecting their garbage is Driftglass.
Price tag for a yard sign?
Humor is a very interesting human pursuit. I think that one of the things people have have a hard time wrapping their minds around is that humor means something very different when it is used by the powerful to shore up their power versus when it is used by the weak to prick the powerful.
I just cannot watch Sunday Morning TV anymore.
I used to think I needed to listen to the opposing viewpoint to refine my own. To see if there was something I missed.
But it just raises my blood pressure and makes me less suited for any rational discussion.
Good question…let me do the math from our last buy…$3/sign including wire and shipping. We’ll have over 500 of them out in the next two weeks in the areas we can drop them, but most locales won’t allow them to be placed for another month yet.
The real killer so far this cycle has been (no surprise) gas. It’s also the #1 complaint when I’m doing doors (2000+ this month). I’ve spent the last week+ driving to the southern part of the district doing doors to prepare for today’s parade. It’s an hour’s drive over rural highway, so a couple trips and it’s time to sink another $50 into the car. Without volunteers helping in numbers I didn’t have last time, I don’t know how I could afford to run just based on gas alone.
Is it just me, or does anyone else sense a hint of euphoria in pictures coming back from Obama’s visits with the troops in Kuwait and Afghanistan? He is playing basketball, got his arms around a female soldier, looking relaxed and comfortable. Like maybe they feel that a dramatic change is coming: a younger President, he is one of us, someone to speak the truth about what’s happening, a light at the end of the tunnel…instead of the legacy of: ‘last throes’ Cheney, ‘hide the bodies’ or ‘no timeline’ Bush, ‘we go with the Army we have, not the one we want’ Rummy, ‘mushroom cloud’ Condi,. And Obama looks at ease sitting at the conference table with foreign leaders.
For the latter example, there’s reasons why the royalty in england periodically ‘outlawed’ satire on the stage every now and then. Even Elizabeth I did that for a while. The ones in power don’t like it at all, because it’s usually hiding a few nasty truths they don’t want seen.
Less expensive than I would have thought. :-) Sending a little in your direction the slow way……Firepups rock and rule!
Mornin’, Elliott, pups
Geez, it’s not even Book Salon and I’ve got to add another book to my list.
I met and talked with another grandson, Arun, a couple years ago. It’s nice to see Gandhi back in discussions.
Haven’t seen any pix yet but your description to Dog’s ear! *g*
I just said the same thing to someone who was complaining about media coverage. I no longer watch any televisied news and read the local papers to keep up. If I read any local media, it’s for the comments posted after the stories. :)
I am not seeing the little automatic message at the end of the comment thread that tells you there are new comments. Is this something on my end, or is it gone for everyone?
Have been noticing lately that Bush/Cheney bumper stickers are almost non-existent in my neck o’woods. Way more Kerry/Edwards, and Obama signs on the increase. Have yet to see a McCain bumper sticker. And in urban Minneapolis/St. Paul (host of the upcoming Repugathon), Obama lawn signs are sprouting and spreading like dandelions.
After watching Brokow for a while they may decide they really do need someone with cred to do the show. That leaves out the usual suspects. Rachel would be good.
Here’s a McCain tee shirt.
Yes, I was really happy to see the same thing. I’ve often used the example of shooting baskets to try to explain confidence and imagining something happening before it does, so that it actually occurs the way you imagined. It’s hard enough to get into that groove with no one wathcing. To do it in those circumstances is really something. Anyway, I was really pleased to see the clips which have come back so far.
On this whole topic, it has seemed to me that Democrats ought to counter the McCain talking point that Obama’s trip to Europe is a big photo op, rather than a meaningful reasearch trip, by pointing out the importance of shoring-up and repairing our ties with traditional western allies. After film clips of Obama with huge German crowds (hopefully like JFK), they should suggest the McCain needs to make tour to speak to the people of Europe. I know the Europeans could hardly bear the excitement of a McCain speech.
TX for the shirt. The site froze my system and booted me off FDL. The universe speaks. No. More. McTshirt!
That has been temporarily disabled while they do some site work. See the P.S. at the bottom of Elliott’s post
Ah! Thanks.
A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history. ~ Mohandas Gandhi
Not only are we not seeing McCain stickers, we’re actually going to have an Obama office here in town. In my memory, I can’t recall ever having a Democratic presidential candidate having a permanent presence here in town. Dean & Obama are contesting every state, and it’s paying off. I’m contesting every township, nook and cranny in my District. I love talking to people that have never had a politician come to their house to ask them what they are concerned about!
This is AWESOME! I am so happy for you!! Where are you?
Good news for us, too. This weekend, Obama offices in Minneapolis/St. Paul area had their grand openings. Jeff Blodgett, Paul Wellstone’s campaign director and now director of Wellstone Action, has taken a leave to manage Obama’s Minnesota campaign. There is not a smarter, savvier grassroots strategist than Blodgett. All of Obama’s campaign is strenthened by his involvement. And all of this in time to be a welcoming presence for the GOP convention here.
Unfortunately, I do see the occasional mcCain and left over Bush/Cheney stickers. But then I live in Boooosh Country (Texas). But I still see more Ron Paul signs and stickers. They haven’t given up yet. Good news is that Obama signs and stickers outweigh them all. Even here.
i am back in the game…..catv and highspeed……hoooooaaaaaaahhh…..
i looooove the sunday shows, and the friday pbs news shows……i was so excited friday over my new toys i forgot to tape them…..
for years, i had two vcrs and watched one on tv…..that’s how obsessed i was over the sunday shows…..
the first channel i switched it to was cspan1–conyers mellow voice talkin’ to me, then cspan2 sheila raising an eyebrow at someone, kick butt my girl…..then cspan3-forum…..i remember when cspan came on the air, i was sooooo excited, got funny looks for years when i brought it up……not anymore.
first live stream? al gore at netroots….fitting….
felt weird when i was in the kitchen yesterday and heard commercials come on, felt good in a weird way, like having my dad’s radio playing german music coming down the hallway at their house, familiarity i guess….have had only pbs for a few years.
now i have to memorize the channels and get a tv guide, can’t tell when anything’s on. except if i wanna scroll all over not knowing the channel numbers.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. ~ Mohandas Gandhi
Been stockpiling Gandhi wisdom for a long, long time.
Northeastern Wisconsin, between Green Bay and the MI border.
I’m currently at stage 3 of Gandhi’s progression :)
Have you read Non-Violent Resistance (Satyagraha)?
You know what? Your Obama office trumps mine. We’re a big metro area hosting the Gooper Gathering. But you’re the heart of the heartland. This gives me hope, which scares the hell outta me, because every time I let hope creep into the equation . . . well, you know.
Which browser are you using? Assuming that your machine is a Windows using IE, now that you have a high speed connection, you should go ahead and download Firefox (although I’m not sure if FF3 is truly stable as yet) and Safari and test them out. Or Opera
And same if you have a Mac; try the other browsers available to you.
FF3 Beta is loaded with bugs. I went back to FF2.
I haven’t. I confess to being a mile wide and a quarter inch deep, overall. Should I read this?
Many years ago, I was involved in a more-or-less international endeavor called “The Peace Child Project.” The heart of it was that (as Gandhi noted) in order to achieve peace, we must start with the children.
The polar opposite bears that out, I think. Taliban training kids from earliest age to embrace its teachings. Radical muslim teachings. Al Qaeda gaining its lifeblood from youth schooled to hate.
Here’s another “take” on those same killings. Interesting to compare…………
http://www.reuters.com/article…..1420080720
That’s what I’ve understood which is why I haven’t even thought about upgrading the FF browser. And to be honest, I still prefer Safari, as for my old eyes, it gives me a sharper appearance
David’s up. Time to rustle up some grub for the man. Later.
This book is a collection of his early writings and, for me, is a primer on getting to a level where non-violent solutions are instinctual. I recommend it for anyone interested in Gandhiji’s thinking. I gave a copy to Amy Goodman when she and David were on the tour for Static.
Christy is upstairs with an interesting post (Of course, saying “Christy has an interesting post” does tend to be a bit redundant).
OK I just turned on CNN.. first Sunday morning television I’ve watched in at least six months. Anyway, David Frum and Co. were all complaining about media coverage of Obama, much more than McCain. And Martha Raddish is howling for more substantive questions of Obama on the M.E.
Maybe when a Democrat dominates the news we will finally see a bipartisan call for a return of the fairness doctrine.
Martha’s got a lot of nerve wanting someone to ask “more substantive questions.” All that time she spent stroking Petraeus’ crank just to get the same ol’ bs.
thanks dakine 58 and southern 59, i’m using safari on an old imac 10-2-8 and os can’t be upgraded anymore….a beautifully restored tri-plane…my friend who built it for me says all the time, quit trying to fly it like a jet…..originally made it for me to convert video for an art project i was working on–the fire photos, there’s a few on my flickr page.
since the fdl upgrade two times ago, have to stop the page from loading or it will quit….mods had to do something so that i could even get in……now, have to do it fast, and often have to keep reloading cuz the links disappear when i go to select them, including comment box…sometimes i won’t have a submit button……cuz i can’t time the ’stop loading’ right yet.
there are a few sites here and there that will make my browser quit, so, i watch where i go if i have a lot of research windows open, but fdl and wapo are the only ones where i experience all of it. i figured out a few tricks around it, the ’stop loading’ once i saw the comment box is one but haven’t figured out a way around the new ones. yet.
not sure if i can upgrade……or if i can do firefox….will check. but even if i can, i don’t want to lose all of my bookmarks, do they transfer? (a duh question, i know, but explorer didn’t transfer all of them when i went to safari, pain in the @ss)
Yes you can import bookmarks from safari to Firefox fairly easily.
I’d say it’s time for a new machine. A lot of the new stuff being put on the web don’t support older operating systems. You’ll find that you’re shut out of a lot of the newer innovations. You can add memory and put in a new processor but the os won’t be able to read the newer web apps. I fought upgrading to XP but had no choice as far as web content was concerned. I can program in Assembly and C/C++ just fine on older machines but they can’t keep up with the web.
You can transfer all your FF bookmarks to Safari. FF has a separate bookmarks folder that can be copied into Safari.
This:

has a LOT more relevance to what is going on than ANY of the talking heads on what passes for ‘informational news’; It’s disgusting that these shows still get given any publicity by those who care about this nation.
thanks guys…..
It was refreshing to see Al Gore defend his position on Climate Change and the need for the US to invest in new energy initiatives. I was tickled at his response to Brokaw when Brokaw kept trying to imply that he should run for something. He pointed out that he had once been ELECTED president but NEVER GOT TO SERVE. That being of course in 2000 when the fool from Crawford’s daddies friends on the SCOTUS was SELECTED.
It is fascinating to see the new McCain ad about Obama’s lack of foreign policy experience. One can’t help but remember that the Gee Dub’s foreign experience upon taking office was little more than getting drunk in Mexico. Obama has more awareness of the greater world outside the US than the Bu$h does even now of parts of Texas more than a hundred miles from Crawford.
I have to note that it was all I could do to not puke listening to Paulson, on Face the Nation, continually maintain that all was well with the economy and the “long term fundamentals were strong.” I was a little cheesed with Bob S for not asking Paulson to explain just which fundamentals to which he was referring. Of course even Bob doesn’t seem interested very often in challenging the corporate and current administration very much.
Was Paulson referring to fundamentals such as the fact that the US has exported almost all of it’s manufacturing base, or the fact that the USA’s ass is owned by foreign countries like China and Saudi Arabia, who might have reason to cease being “friends?” I am always reminded when listening to this type of bloviating the forecasts and economic projections being given to President Hoover right though most of October of 1929. The short version being that the market was going to continue to climb and all was well – then of course there was a really big reality bite in the ass and the brokers started using the windows of their offices as exits.
BTW, Obama was looking good sinking the three pointer with the soldiers on the court over there in Afghanistan!
