i don’t know the total of all offshore rigs available .. but there are currently 69 offshore rigs drilling in the gulf of mexico .. only two of which are drillin’ for oil btw .. the rest are drillin’ for natural gas ..

now .. you’d think with oil at still 130USD/bbl that the oil boyz would be drillin’ for oil .. but i just looked at the rig count and there’s a total of 1,980 or so active land and offshore drillin’ rigs workin’ ..this week .. but 1595 are drillin’ for natural gas and only 397 are drillin’ for crude oil .. odd eh ??

y’all can view the US rig count .. it comes out every friday .. baker-hughes has been tracking and reporting the weekly rig count since 1942 .. it tell how many rigs are workin’ .. whether they’re land or offshore .. and whether they’re drillin’ for oil or NG .. and compares this week to last week .. and this week to last year .. it’s an interesting document ..

Tom Brokow spouted it to AL GORE this morning on Meet the Press and wasn’t challenged. Maybe because it was in a statement that had three other facts wrong for Al to correct, he didn’t get to it. But the statement was left uncorrected.

That interview was a disgrace. Tom hit all the low points like he was trying to take Gore out of a race he isn’t even in.

eureka–i don’t have off-shore numbers, but we have 68 million acres already permitted on land, i have been trying to find out how many are already drilled that are capped, can’t find that anywhere, seems like that should be public information since it’s public lands, the private lands i can understand the right to not list it publicly, just registered with gov’t for permits…info is nowhere to be found…and 4,000 permits just issued a month or two ago in wyoming on gov’t lands. gas and oil.

#1 mccain–says callyfornia….environmental side is ’pretty well ok’…..louisiana, did not cause any real difficutlies…

#2 bond–environmentally friendly way….louisiana, did not spill any significant amount of oil…..we can produce oil and gas in a much more environmentally sensitive ways than the other countries that my colleagues want to ’beg’ to produce that oil (it’s about manhood)

#3 lott–do it now, but do it safely and in an environmentally and friendly and wisely…….nobody wants to unnecessarily endanger pristine areas…..danger danger foreign oil……

best line that describes what they’re selling is from the anchor on the last one said it at the end—CHEMICAL CASTRATION. i can’t believe he said that…rofl….

danger danger fear fear we know what we’re doing, really, the foreigners the foreigners endangering our manhood…. shwing!

they are also using ’acreage’ terms, nothing about livelihoods affected…….to depersonalize it and make it about the environment, not about what they are really doing….

true. an incrmental whopper. know what has facinated me? the way they’re presenting this off-shore drilling thing as just opart of their comprtehensive energy plan. bullshit, of course. when you see these guys on the floor of the house they have charts and graphs about waht? oil drilling. not a word about electric cars, wind, solar.

also, the lie mccain is repeating that BO is opposed to coal. false. he has said over and over that he wants clean coal and we can delop the technology to do it. don’t know if that’s true, but he hasn’t oppose coal.

That is true but 1) the vessels used for exploration are not quite as complex/expensive. 2) There is significant area available for exploration.
3) what is actually there is little more than conjecture at this point.
