Sadly, I did not have a Swing Wing when I was a child but it certainly would’ve explained a few things. In fact, it looks like one of my stage moves. Why these didn’t take off is beyond me. What's swingin' your wing today?

Hey hi howdy Firepups! Caaaaaaan youuuuuu Digg iiiiit? Anybody else want to rush over to Ebay for one of these things?
Howdy! Fun toy.
I want one with longer wings to really get that thing going.
Yo fini!
yes I can digg it
Hey everyone!
Um….I want a Swing Wing. Look at it! :O! Crazy!
Ugh, under the weather here, waiting to go home and crawl in bed.
Rock on without me.
Hey everyone, I’m a little late to the party, but who rally cares!
did the little refresh comments thingy break?
Yes.
Comments refresh if you enter a new comment OR if you do a hard refresh.
One of my favorite toys when I was a kid were those Klick Klacks. They were taken off of the market because the glass would shatter into people’s eyes. Those were the days.

Hi everyone! May your Friday be better than mine.
In response to Donita Sparks @ 5
Hehe. I’m sure it doesn’t. Admittedly I don’t know about everything that you did on stage, but in the bits I got to see you never looked dumb. Eccentric … yes; very strange sometimes … yes; but never dumb. :-)
In response to thormaillet @ 5
I don’t know. These things look like the promote neck pain. :-S
I remember those, loved them.
Donita
dropped in today after being away for a while and got a great laugh from this, s’wing baby s’wing
They kinda just sold any damn thing to kids in the 60s. This thing is bizarre.
Oh I remember klackers, they were fun
Hi Samson,
Well, my vanity won’t let me argue with you on that.
May I ask when you got your first guitar - or is that too personal?
Hmmm….that toy actually looks pretty cool to have :D
I think it’s ingenious parental tool. Like Ritalin you can wear on your head.
Sweet sixteen.
Hah! No kidding, that thing I bet kept some kids busy for days and weeks!
That’s just a tame head-top version of the twirling pasties worn by discerning strippers (like the one in “The Graduate).
I’m about to go to the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Next week is the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Minnesota. The week after is Lollapalooza in Chicago.
If I had children Swing Wings would be mandatory, even if I had to make homemade versions.
Who are you going to see?
Homemade Swing-Wing…. I’m on a mission :D
In response to Donita Sparks @ 20
Thanks for replying. :-)
In response to finifinito @ 14
In later decades there had been other junk that has been sold to kids. Like for instance bad video games in the late 80s/early 90s. There is a guy called “The Angry Nintendo Nerd” - or “The Angry Video Game Nerd” that has a channel on YouTube with reviews on those games. It’s quite funny.
After reviewing the tape a few more times, I feel it is necessary to postulate a theory. I believe this may be the first documented evidence of pre-heavy metal headbanging. You may have made a major anthropological discovery here Donita!
I love the AVGN! He’s so awesome!
Jeebus! I have a metric shit ton of those games in storage at my brother’s house! Yet another lost opportunity someone else came up with! You realize the origins of All Your Base comes from a bad Nintendo game from back then.
Yes, I saw the headbanging motions immediately. Dizzying, euphoric, then nap time.
Alot of those games are actually alot more fun then something you’d find on an Xbox or whatever. It’s kinda sad some of my gaming friends don’t know how to appreciate that since all they care about are graphics :(

Uh.
Muh.
Gawd.
I do believe they must have fired up that particle accelerator in Switzerland because I think this video is a sign of the freaking end times.
Jinx! We posted it at the same time!
I have a feeling that the Swing Wing jingle will be trapped in my head when I try to go to sleep tonight.
Here, Donita, try this:

Picture a whole crowd of Slayer fans wearing Swing Wings at a concert.
In response to Donita Sparks @ 30
But that’s true for more people, not just head bangers…
NO KIDDING!!!!!!11!! ZOMG!
haha absolutely retarded those Swing Wings, now I want one! lol
Oh, I have a whole new YouTube phenom I am tracking. Who here knows about Techno Viking? Here is the original, but there are some really funny alternative/response versions. I’m partial to this one and this one.
Heh, there would be ALOT of people getting smacked in the face at that concert with those things!
Ha! All Your Toobz Are Belong To US!
I saw all of these the other night, doing research for the Ted Stevens Poetry Contest…
As we were talking about the 60s, here’s some 60s music
(not really)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-BYzaDwNoE
60s music eh? Guess I’ll join in on the fun with one of my faves
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Jj3wZVc7nw
You poor dear. How about some nice antidote?
In response to finifinito @ 40
Oh dear. Some people have too much time on their hands. :)
In response to YoungJess @ 45
Very nice! Thanks for sharing! :-)
Oh my god that first one was fantastic. I’ve got to check out the others.
Aaaaahhhhh… now THAT’S TALENT!
btw, I think DOnita sold herself short! Do I detect the twinkle of the beginning SWING WING Move at :30 seconds in???
YOU BE THE JUDGE!
I think I’ll share another another vid…..in my opinion, this is the best cover of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8pwfw9LY6o
Ha! Not nearly enough Swing Wing there.
Hey, Young Jess - fantastic. Miss Wilson was treated very badly beccause she liked to have a cheeseburger once in a while… I think that SUXXX…
Here’s another great version of the song. (especially for my friend fini)
Yes, but… From tiny acorns, Mighty Oaks Grow!
Hey you’re right! That is a classic Swing Wing maneuver methinks! As for the Techno Viking phenomenon, definitely check out the others, it gets even weirder and weirder as you dig through them.
Ok all, I’m off. Have a great weekend and check out the Al Gore video link at the top of the page. xxox
OH! No! You! Didn’t!
[smacks forehead] I got Rick Roll’d!
I am particularly fond of the “Drama Prairie Dog” version. I was gonna link up that instead of the Rick Astley, but the adorable snaggle-toothed grin won me over. (Rick’s, not the prairie dog’s)
Ahh!! I gotta find a way to stop falling into the Rick Roll traps! time for me to buy this shirt: http://www.noisebot.com/i_was_.....-shirt.htm
Pitchfork: Public Enemy, Dinosaur Jr., Mission to Burma
10K Lakes: the usual jam bands
Lollapalooza: Radiohead, The Rancounteurs, Rage Against the Machine, Wilco
plus many others
See ya next week Donita!
OK, I’m feeling really stupid here, but can anybody please explain to me what “xxox” means? I’ve read that several times, yet the meaning is still unknown to me. :-}
“x” is kiss and “o” is hug, and apparently “X” is big kiss and “O” is big hug
Well I am out too, I now have to go listen to some Rammstein on 20 to get the Rick Astley out of my head. Watch your back Jacqrat, nobody rick rolls me without retribution! Have a great weekend folks, see ya next week or sooner!
speaking of kick-ass videos, here’s one.
And, in the interest of helping get good ideas off the ground, here’s a comment on the youtube page:
I think L7 should make a DVD with all videos + 2 live shows - one from the Slap-Tour and other one from Bricks Tour! + one documentary + Tour 2009 to celebrate all these years of the band. I think it should be a good idea. This video is so cool I could kiss the guy who posted this video, haha. :)
Take care fini!
Thanks for explaining :-)
Rick-rolling is another classic. Here a whole stadium get’s rick-rolled.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8ErbVOfvqw

Is the Doom one funny or just nerdy?
No problem :)
Oh yes, those videos from INJETT.
Notice how Dee smirks when she’s seen the first time after Donita dropped the plectrum. :-)
Oh my god!!! I LOVE that Mario Paint one!!!
Ah, youngjess, you need to buy TWO - one in Navy, and one in Khaki, to match Rick’s “blazer” and “Raincoat” he wears in the video, nes pas?
They’re not all good though. Now I even have regrets in having posted this. :-/
Hah, you know, that’s not a bad idea :D
Samson, I laughed at them - the mario paint one is a new one for me, and gotta love that Tay (chocolate rain guy) did a Karaoke version! SWEET.
this was fun today - thanks for the laughs.
jefferson airplane?
here’s one of the founding members, jorma kaukonen, guitar player wailin’ on those songs…
he lives here….
www.furpeaceranch.com
i had a season pass for the concerts there, incredible opportunity to hear blues and fingerpicking guitar. worth a trip here to see it. any show is a good one. small auditorium and people hangin’ out. even jorma. really nice place. they care about music. it’s a guitar camp.
one of the most beautiful acoustic love songs ever written-genesis. no video, you don’t need one…written as an apology to his love. it’s downright amazing anyone can write and play like that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaMhKZxc8o4
here’s an old one–young jorma and jack–hesitation blues. master.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT196UksWxc

Thanks for sharing.
oh when i said he lives here, i meant HERE, at the fur peace ranch, but here in se ohio…the ranch is right down the road.
i hope you all click on those, noone plays like he does. it’s a pleasure. and an honour.
crap-NOT at the ranch.
time for a ride……
samson, you’re welcome……he’s truly a nice guy, and is a ’normal joe’ has a quiet life here with his wife and newly adopted daughter, everybody knows them, and they have a great guitar camp where they keep the tradition of guitar playing going. so, i hate to ’drop’ names and rarely do….but he deserves to be mentioned and honored, truly a master and a fine human being…there it is. a lot of times when i have mentioned my friend i start to say it, then think, no, that isn’t right, no need to say that part….bobby’s the one i miss playing guitar when he comes over and gave me my mandolin. he built the stone wall above my fireplace mantle, i was just looking at it today when i was downstairs with the cable guys, they were admiring it…..i did everything i could to keep him from taking that job with kbr. his decision.
was on my way out the door for a drive when it occurred to me i should give a link for-
live at the fur peace ranch radio show-once a week, concerts from the ranch……all live shows. incredible.
any audiophile should bookmark this one. trust me. blues. and fingerpicking style guitar.
other archival stuff is on the ranch site i linked earlier. also concert schedule so you know who is coming up, they fill in with older shows, but all new when you hear them for the first time……right?
http://www.woub.org/radio/inde.....38;page=21
enjoy, i’ll be listening to a few of the archives now that i have highspeed…….pete huttlinger, long list. robert lockwood jr…..all depends who gave rights for archives/copyrights.
ok, only a little daylight left for callie to see and bark at the cows…….i’m off to support the oil companies by burning unnecessary gas……
A bit late to the show but those Swing Wings (and I would assume the stripper head pasties using a braid) are most likely taken from a traditional dance in Korea…The Korean Ribbon Hat Dance. Maybe Korean War Vets brought them back when they returned in the ’50’s.
I saw this with a bunch of Korean drummers at the Rainforest Music Festival in Kuching, Sarawak a couple of years back. Those guys could not only loop the ribbon around in time, but make in shimmer snake-like or even spiral around their bodies while they drummed!
