One thing that comes with a six-figure (minimum) salary for punditry is a complete lack of creativity.
Yes, the MEME must be renewed, revisited, restated, regurgitated.
From Bill Kristol, to Ron Fournier, to Chuckles Krauthammer the theme must be laid down.
Americans are beginning to notice Obama’s elevated opinion of himself. There’s nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?
Hey Charlie, for starters, remember this guy?![]()
You can scan Krauthammer’s column today and note the complete lack of evidence for the charge of arrogance…beyond Krauthammer’s dubious say-so.
But then that’s close enough for horseshoes and Republicans bombing a country isn’t it?
Krauthammer is just following in the wake of…
Ron Fournier, AP’s Washington Bureau Chief and the "Wind Beneath Karl Rove’s Wings":
But both Obama and his wife, Michelle, ooze a sense of entitlement.
They do huh?
And your evidence for this is what, your fabulous middle-aged white guy spidy-sense?
And then there’s Bill Kristol who entitled a column in February saying about Obama’s candidacy:
It’s all about him
Which, I guess explains why his name is on the posters. Shocking I know.
Yes, Conservatives have discovered, somehow, that running for President takes a great deal of self-confidence. But apparently there’s absolutely no sense of entitlement or arrogance about John McCain; from telling a kid to "shut up" to making those H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S violent rape jokes with the press boys in the back of the Straight-Talk bus that they laugh at so. He’s just McCain bein’ McCain … nothing overly self-involved there at all, right?
And they are not alone. The list can be made quite a bit longer of columnists pushing this theme without evidence. Obama is "arrogant" just because they say so.
God forbid a black man be ambitious and yet not be using that ambition in the cause of singin’ and dancin’ up there on a stage.
Oh, how the right whines (right Phil Gramm?) whenever we DFH’s make this complaint. We’re playing the race care they shriek.
Bullcrap. This is their own chosen theme…over and over and over again. It is nothing less than coded racism and it needs to be called every time they trot it out. What evidence is there that Barack Obama is any more arrogant than John McCain? What evidence is there that he is any more arrogant than any of the hundreds of members of Congress?
What evidence is there that he is even as close to arrogant as Charles Krauthammer, Bill Kristol or George Will?
Oh, if only Obama had been "shiftless" like a black man is supposed to be, right Chuck?

It is nothing less than coded racism….
Actually, it is naked racism. All of the columnists mentioned, (if by columnist you mean a bleating, pompous, arrogant windbag void of original thought spewing forth spittle flecked drivel) have spent the last 7+ years attempting to convince the masses that:
1) War is good.
2) We are righteous Christians slaying evil.
3) Trickle Down Economics, attempted before to ruinous effect, actually works.
4) The Idiot in Chief is the bestest President evah.
5) Torture is OK because the baby Jesus will cry if we don’t kill brown people.
6) Lawlessness is beneficial in a republican administration.
7) Booba, booga, booga, terra, terra, terra.
8) Registered Democrats that serve honorably in the U.S. Military are actually treasonous homosexuals out to pervert your children and destroy the country.
9) The current economic crash has been brought about by too much regulation and poor brown people buying houses with no money down.
10) Any and all lies used to prevent a scary black man or a woman from becoming the President are OK because they are not, you know, Old. Rich. White Guys.
Good morning and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Mr.Cbl
on my way to bed but wanted to remind everyone that the only way to tell if there are new comments is to hard refresh (F5 on pc) or post a comment.
the tech crew is aware of the problem.
On the morning of July 18, the best they’ve got is Chuckles Craphammer snarling in the corner. ”You think you’re so smart, huh? Huh?”
Today is a great day.
1,706 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Attaturk and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
We are dealin’ with the last gasps of 135 years of oligarchic fascism and it’s not gunna be easy or pretty puttin’ these folks into the dustbin. Technology has changed faster’n capital could catch up through politics and the law, givin’ us (the “people” don’tcha know) a window to connect with each other and ORGANIZE beyond the perameters that corporate media has circumscribed for us. This election is just the next battle, it’s not the LAST battle. The struggle against fascism and capitalism will continue until the new energy technologies and communication tools decentralize life and deliver the power to control individual to communities and local groups linked world-wide by the new information technologies.
Next is the elction of not only a Democratic President but controlling Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. This will allow for not only rapid legislative response to national problems but will break-up the Republican Party as the cybernetic arm of the ruling oligarchy. What emmerges in it’s place may very well be a grass roots right wing populism (see Bob Barr and the right wing Libertarians) but the decentralization brought about by the new energy technologies will break the long standing capital monopolies and the desintegration of the ruling families will be a thing to behold…I wanna see the Chimpenfeuherer signin’ up for medicare!
KEEP THE FAITH BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THE STRUGGLE IS WHAT MAKES SENSE OF THIS MESS!!
I was off looking at toons, following up bec. of something Suz asked me.
And omigwad, I found this. It’s ugly, but a reminder of what a racist past we have had. Still alive, apparently.
Tho much more coded now. But still as hateful.

Coal black and de sebben dwarfs (updated snow black)
I couldn’t get to FDL all last night. Anyone else have that problem?
i can answer this one, attaturk(ey) (feelin’ spunky)==
if things are handed to you your attitude is called ’confidence’ because you were born to ’lead’ and to have a position of influence.
(this group is the sole user of the words ’entitled and arrogant’ when describing the following group)
if you use your own talents and work hard to acheive something it’s called ’arrogant and entitled’ because you ’took the spot’ of someone who is ’confident’.
(this group is the sole user of the words, oh, wait, they don’t have words like that that they use, they’re too busy using their talents and working hard to acheive something.)
there are exceptions to both rules. after all, nature is never black and white.
nuff said.
gooooooood mornin’ pups…….
Perfect, Citizen dmac…best description of the social vocabulary of racism.
Same here…and since I can’t get into FDL at work anymore(I swear the guys in IT have put in a language filter or something and that jams the Lake), I was definitely a grumpy puppy last night. Had to ‘make do’ with Betsy, the Spook et al. from IamTrex liveblogging at netroots nation. Which was pretty darned good but I’m missing the Lake big time.
For confidence, replace with “privilege”. My younger daughter has been schooling me on THAT issue for quite a while now.
There were very weird outages all over the net. NOT just FDL. Chronicled to some extent at LLN.
yeah solai–
i was in and out, busy day….tried to check in to see the announcement here and there.
cruel and unusual punishment
announce a big announcement, then can’t sign-on to the lake to see what it is!
pretty funny, sorry, not funny, well, kinda funny. ok, ironic.
i bet they were gettin’ some mail!!!!
reminds me of the year celebrating christmas (3 hours away) was postponed for a week because of a pre-christmas blizzard, and then another blizzard…..all of the people who hadn’t purchased presents yet were screwed, let alone if you had them you couldn’t get anywhere except very locally. i was prepared in the presents department but christmas day was boring cuz my family was hours away…ate at neighbor’s and had fun, but at home? noone but my animals and me and my new snow angel friends. waiting for santa.
yep, reminds me of that.
lol
p.s. and after all that—i was in the ’oxnard’ area the other day to change my ’username’ link to fdl’s flickr member page from my page and i saw a few diaries already but didn’t have time to pursue what it was about. so, i was a little unsurprised, except for the contest. elliot had one, i forget who else.
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Krugman today. Bobo is gurgling about “The Coming Activist Age,” and mutters that the Democrats are the natural party of federal vigor. Yet, historically, periods of great governmental change have often been periods of conservative rule. He’s particularly full of crap today. Mr. Krugman addresses our “L-ish Economic Prospects,” and says the prospect for the economy isn’t V-shaped, it’s L-ish: rather than springing back, we’ll have a prolonged period of at best slowly improving performance.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got French toast made with challah and a bit of cinnamon, and real maple syrup. We’re getting more rain now, which will probably continue into tomorrow, so we’re happy campers. Which reminds me — I’ve got to dash out, dodge the raindrops, and turn off the watering system. Have a great day.
Yes, the squirrels seem to have been on strike.
Same here. It’s driving me out of my mind…
And if there were do you think that he would have a barbeque with all the common press folks? Would he have ridden on a BUS, of all things. No I think that to call him arrogant and entitled would be like calling the guy that you want to have a beer with, arrogant and entitled which he is not.
I’m thinking about doing a diary also – though I’m thinking about doing stuff on local politics and change. Sure don’t want to do it if it’s going to end up “what I had for breakfast today”.
Heh, Marion..and it’s not exactly something I’d feel comfortable going and taking up with the IT guys, eh?
Mornin’ MArion. No rain here for bloody ever it seems. I have been watering the various gardens every morning and evening so that we will have food for thew winter.
Booboo is arrogant, elitist and full of crap.
PWG: Privileged White Guy. Does not recognize the fact the he’s been that ever since he was conceived. We have a college intern with our group this summer who is the epitome of this; makes me want to smack him in the head to wake him up.
I once read a questionarre designed to determine your personality type. One of the questions was ‘What would you do if, while sitting on a park bench, someone came up and hit you on the head with a rolled-up newspaper?”
Your choices included:1)beat the person senseless 2)Run away 3)Scream at the guy. 4)Look at him and ask ‘why did you do that?’
Well, imho, Obama is a #4 kind of guy. He’s a thinker. He’s intelligent. And this country has (unbelievably) been brainwashed into thinking that that’s a negative trait. They want John Wayne. Or George Bush. Or Ronald Reagan. They’ve been taught to distrust anyone more intelligent then themselves. I don’t get it but somehow we’ve been led to believe that education, intelligence and temperment are not as important as being a down-to-earth regular joe. (Think Hillary and Obama chugging down a beer)
Fuck that….I never want a lightweight in charge again. I want the smart guys running this country.
The point of this is that it may not all be racism, there’s a bias against anyone who exudes intelligence.
toby at 10–i left out that word on purpose, because it isn’t used in that circle, except in taking away of priviledges–when you don’t get something, you don’t have the priviledge anymore. (the word isn’t used in the snark sense.) the word confidence is used in place of it, ”you aren’t priviledged, you’re confident! how dare they say that about you!”
i spent years not saying where i lived to people cuz they would assume i was ’priviledged’……can’t help where you’re born and they didn’t know my parents or what kind of people they STILL are…..pissed me off. until i realized people on the other end of the scale probably did the same thing…..weird.
with money comes priviledges, that is true in any home no matter what class or race…..adults and kids…money mostly means easier access to cultural things in the world……but even someone who has a lower level job with access to something, that is a form of priviledge, too.
carly simon was on tavis smiley a while back and talked about her parents, especially her mom…..she was involved in civil rights issues…..helped jackie robinson and his wife, after they were given the runaround, find a home in an all white city in connecticut in 1957-the same house they had been refused-they stayed at their house while looking. went about it in a classy way. quite a story. and they had access to any kind of life they wanted and chose to be open to all kinds of human beings….got me thinkin’ about what some of the defining differences are……hey! maybe i’ll do a diary to try to win a book!!
norske at 8–thanks, but i didn’t write it just about race.
Me either, particularly as I’m known as either the office cryptocommie or “our house Democrat!”
And those are his good points…
Anti-intellectualism is a really strong streak in the US, as is being un-curious about any place else in the world, other people’s cultures and so on.
toby–i think a ’what i had for breakfast today’ could be a good one…..if written well. you can find analogies in anything.
i’d ask the newspaper dude–where’d ya get the newspaper? i couldn’t find one, boxes empty, you done reading it?
==========
the entitlement thing—-and you don’t have to be rich to be a snob…..plenty of poor snobs around, too.
bbl-cable guy coming 8-12, gotta eat breakfast and stuff. hmmmmm, maybe i’ll write about it! (toby) lol
And, not just of late. I lived in the UK for 10 years, and when I came back I had to wonder how many people even knew that they had different money.
Elitist, arrogant, sense of entitlement & narcissism, oh my.
Projectors are blind to their own projections.
Yes but even the dumbest know that the American dollar is dropping compared to the British dollar.
dmac – if I did a breakfast thing, it would end up with, “Breakfast: smoothie with hemp protein and bluberries” Breakfast – see yesterday. I do very boring breakfasts. I do feel, however, that as (whatever we want to call ourselves..I’m preferring “Not GOPrs” these days), the local and state level stuff is not getting the coverage it should. Yes, the federal level stuff is super important, but on a day to day level, who gets put on state and local courts is really important also, what is happening at in terms of economic development(hey, Solai…IBM is going to invest a huge amount of money…in East Fishkill and “a technical site to be named later” – you want to bet that is at SUNY Albany??? What the heck is up with THAT??? We’ve got a whole metro area – JC/Endicott – that is polluted with TCE from those guys. Don’t we deserve a little bit of that industrial ‘love’ too?) and so on and so forth. A small percentage of folks in Upstate New York get involved in the FISA fight…but the local stuff gets everyone’s attention and that is how we get people who can move on to the federal level. Grow ‘em from the ground up. That’s my motto.
The “No Nothing” gene runs right through our gene pool…but the mouthpieces and shills puttin’ on the airs of their elite masters is somethin’ ta behold. After watchin’ what the corporate media is tryin’ ta do ta this “uppity negro” and how adroitly he’s deflectin’ their shit I’m even losin’ some a my anger at Obama for the FISA boondoggle
Someone gave our NSA handlers a beer to split between them, they ended up shitfaced and starting pushing buttons. Amateurs.
Nope, not at all. Most of the folks where I work wouldn’t even know what you were talking about if you asked what they thought of the dollar’s devaluation. You’d have to explain it to them in words of one syllable. And other countries don’t really have francs or pounds or marks, they just have funny money…
That’s true, but back in ‘86 I seriously wondered. Course, I ended up in the South (job), far away from my CAian roots.
At that time it seemed like many in the US thought Europe was a place to tour and eat. Kinda like an upscale Disneyland.
Sigh…got to go to work so I won’t see any of this until I get home tonight. I’ll be cooling my heels at Iamtrex if anyone’s lookin’ for me. Be good to each other.
It was/is damn weird. All sorts of sites were down. As I only look at political sites, I didn’t get the full picture. But even the low traffic local state Dem blog I check out was down. I really want to know what was going on!
Sigh. The headline on the dead tree edition of the Savannah Daily Disappointment is “Jones: I’ll bring back the Reagan Democrats.” (Why they change the headlines for the web version beats me.) Please send some positive energy our way on 8/5/08 so that we might possibly have a real Democrat beat this putz in the runoff election. It would be nice not to have 2 Republicans to choose from for Senator…
norske at 8–holy crap!!! it just hit me!!!!! norske, you called me PERFECT!!!!!
oh my, you must be well rested and fed!!!!!
rofl…….
thanks, the last time you gave me a compliment-right after that you ripped my a$$ when you misunderstood something i said……i was mad for a week or so cuz you didn’t see what i wrote to say you misunderstood.
oh well, i’m back to being perfect again, i’ll ’basque’ in the norske light for now.
and glad you had a good fishin’ trip(s)…….
ok, check back later, pups, and no goin’ arrogant while i’m gone!
cuz i’m the one goin’ arrogant if the cable thing goes ok—–high-speed and C-SPAN!!!!!!!
christmas in july!
lookout–lightning links and information station……i’m gonna be dangerous.
I’m having a hard time keeping track.
Was this episode #20,123 or #20,124 of the “all criticism of Obama is racist”?
Obama is arrognant, and this is never quite so evident as when he is being/has been challenged.
And while this “if you don’t like Obama, you’re a racist” strategy might have worked during the Democratic primaries, its unlikely to work in the general election. Remember how any time Clinton mentioned her gender (or suggested that the coverage was biased) she was accused of playing the “victim card”? The same thing is going to happen with Obama as long as this “you can’t criticize Obama without being racist” nonsense continues….
and U-P-P-I-T-Y
Well, I’m off too. Maybe I’ll check in with TobyWollin at iamtrex, which we both seem to be able to get at work. Keep on keeping on…
Gotta go feed the tigers before they tear the place up, and make some coffee. Arrogant, elitist, entitlement disease ridden animals.
Marion- some discussion of this over at Tondee’s Tavern.
http://www.tondeestavern.com/s…..aryId=1887
I’m sorry to say that the Martin campaign has been less than inspiring. I tried to get involved from the get go, but…
Course, Vernon Jones is completely odious, but I think Martin is a parochial pol who got his arm twisted to run. I very nice man, but no heart for the fight, imo.
Well, people were saying this shit about Hillary too. In fact I seem to recall a lot of people here saying it.
Wow I am impressed… your Tigers make coffee. Mine (17weeks) are not yet that good although they do know how to unroll paper towels and toilet paper, they know how to swim in the fish pond and, just this morning, have found how to climb the sides of the aquarium. Making beds, typing, answering the phone (even if it doesn’t ring) and desk clearing are also skills they have mastered.
LOL! Unmaking beds, perhaps you meant? Kittehs ar specialz.
Oh puLEEZ…middle class white angst over percieved sexism is sooo much like anger of uppity Blacks over racism ain’t it??!! Come on that dog is too dead ta hunt.
Good Lord Citizen lukasiak, did you jest wake up and find out that Eisenhower ain’t President anymore and Blacks ken vote in Mississippi??!!
oh, p.s. A youtube for you to enjoy. Note innocent look on kitteh face at the end. Hilarious!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWQzqky2lqQ
Cat unrolling toilet paper
NF, the mods will probably take down this comment.. but, imo him being a citizen er… above his pay grade?
They’re baaaack. Call the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance.
I am sooooo glad that none of mine have picked up that habit. Friend of mine has to keep his tp on a shelf, otherwise it wouldn’t last 10 minutes.
That is so funny! I really wondered after finding that youtube (found it a good time back) whether this really was just a “special cat”. Nope, I guess they’re out there at large! Raised in a kitteh household, and none of them ever attacked the TP or the PT, so I WAS wondering. ;)
To many folks here are still fighting the last war! When racism is called out nowadays, no matter who does it, the standard knee jerk reply is to charge the messenger with reverse racism! Racism isn’t the sole property of the right we all know that. It is everywhere and ugly no matter who, left or right does it. So to say “You guys scream racism even against a fellow Democrat” is no defense. I find it especially repugnant when lefties do it and become all indignant when their called on it! Calling out racism any racism no matter who perpertrates it, is a sign of consistency as it should be.
ummmmm, read the quotes, paul and riesz are right, they could have been quotes from what ’they’ also wrote about hillary…….word for word……..
scroll up and read them….i did……
you’re forgetting, she was ’entitled’ too, didn’t come from the ’confident leader’ group of society, too.
That’s how I feel. Unfortunately he would run that way against Saxby and get creamed. Jones is odious but if he is the candidate, he’ll get my vote.
Mine specialized in curtains, mini-blinds and furniture. Yang was about 12 weeks when she got under the mattress pad on the waterbed while I was changing sheets. That was in the afternoon. Went to go to bed and it was soaked. About 20 clawholes in the mattress.
Did you miss McSame’s latest line that he really is a socialist.
Morning Attaturk,
Thanks for calling those idiots out. Elitist b*stards.
Morning pups,
had to cover the kittehs eyes so as not give them any ideas
about the TP
(bows) Konnichiwa, Elliott
Didn’t ya know tigers kin see through fingers?
hey Reisz, notice how Obama supporters continue to denigrate the concerns of women (perceived sexism?!?!) why still trying to categorize anyone who opposes Obama as a racist?
Obama supporters don’t get how their constant accusations of racism whenever Obama is cast in an unflattering light desensitizes most of the electorate. Its the “boy who cried wolf” phenomenon….
(bows) Konnichiwa
oh rats! I’m in trouble now
oh, JPL9, please rethink this. I think having a Jones win would be damn awful, because he might be able to stick around for more than one term. I’d really much rather have to endure Saxby, and then hope for a better Dem challenger next time around. jmo.

Well, those are pretty usual targets, apart from the water bed. That is a new one on me! I hope you found it funny, eventually.
We think Craphammer, et al, are bad now, wait until after the election. Their shit is so lame now it ain’t funny. What’s it gonna be like after January? Kristol Sardonicus will be beside himself with fact challenged drivel.
btw, I hope/ trust this was entirely innocent on kitteh’s part. I have been subject to kitteh revenge, and kitteh exactly what it was doing.
And a hearty good morning and thanks to you for this incredibly spot on comment.
they are insufferable now
Mebbe they’ll all retire, like the Humester
Yeah, it’s OK to use the c-word, and I’ve seen it here at FDL.
There’s the challenge. They design crap, market the living hell out of it, then say that’s what the consumers wanted. That won’t work this time around. Perhaps we’ll be spared the buxom beauties, hunks and mansions as props and backgrounds. hahahahahahahahahahahaha. shit, I’m coming unhinged.
Chuck Todd is explaining to us that the more successful Obama’s European trip is the worst it will be for him.

Gore’s Energy Challenge to America
She was just investigating, having fun. I laughed when it happened. Spent an hour with the patch kit, towels, etc. Got to bed late but she curled up next to me. She slept on the waterbed the first night I brought her home at 8 weeks. Slept there most nights the rest of her life. It was her safe place.
I think we all are – lol
GM is getting what it deserves
There’s a difference between challenging an individual’s position on issues and defining the individual (name calling). Name calling or other non-issue issues (ie gender) reveals only a dearth of ideas.I have no idea why you consider Obama arrogant. Don’t like his posture? his delivery? Calling him arrogant is a neat way of avoiding issues and, like it or not, playing the race card. Don’t like his position on the Iraq war? What else can one expect from someone so “arrogant”?
You may not agree with the proposition that the US is a racist nation. It seems to me to be a pretty self evident proposition. Many people will vote for McCain because he is white-no other reason comes to mind. Many others will vote against Obama because he is black. You may be one of them. Your problem is twofold. (1) you’re a sore loser and (2)you probably see a black person coming to power as the end of your world. Hopefully you are right.
southern–one mattress pad wasn’t enough of a barrier with my old kitteh…..and forget havin’ an inflatable mattress made up like a normal bed for when company comes, we have to put two comforters on top of it, then the sheets……….lol……i gave up trying to patch the last two.
vally girl–when mine get upset, one runs for the settee, looks straight at me, claws the sidearm just enough to make her point and runs….it waaaaaaas a nice piece of furniture, is still not too bad, but i put a sheet over it and that keeps her from doing it……but i liiiiiike it, so, took the sheet back off.
the other one, when miffed and wants to pout, goes for the coat closet and flips the bumper springy thing repeatedly until she gets it open or i open it for her. lookin’ straight at me the whole time.
when the food bowl is low, they used to run through my legs while i was walking and it would trip me, dangerous……until i stepped on one of them trying not to fall…..that ended that.
Whew! Glad my guess was correct!
The claims of Obama being arrogant are clearly thinly veiled racial taunts but the attacks against Michelle are grotesque. And notice how nobody ever calls Cindy “spends 750,000 in a month” McCain uppity or elite.
Nah, she and John are salt-of-the-earth. Mavericky and stuff.
Oy vey.
I gave up trying to protect furniture a long time ago. Shiimsa, so glossy black what when he closes his eyes his face disappears, tries his hardest to put me on the floor every mealtime.
dmac- that is funny.
I don’t have a cat right now. Last time I had one was a “rental kitteh” as part of the house I rented for sabbatical.
We really got along well, and the owners even wanted to give her to me when I left. But she loved her turf so much, I just couldn’t do that.
I got her to stop clawing the furniture and rugs by introducing one of those corrugated claw pads. She loved it. But, when I was trying to give her some medicine for hairballs, she struggled with me (no bites or scratches), and ran to the other side of the room, and started clawing the carpet, with a “so there” look on her face. It was really funny.
He wants you to eat with him?
Shelters are overcrowded right now. *g*
Their internal clock is amazing. I don’t have to look at the clock to know it’s mealtime. Running back and forth, vocalizing and Shiimsa acting like I’ve got him on a short leash on my ankle. Did manage to put me against a wall to keep from going down once. His ears musta been burnin’, he’s sittin’ here looking up at me.
so, all of those Obama supporters who accused Clinton of arrogance and “entitled” were being sexist?
the fact that ‘you have no idea’ why I (or anyone else) considers Obama arrogant isn’t my problem, its yours. You’re incapable of recongizing the flaws in the candidate that you support — I didn’t start out thinking Obama was ‘arrogant’, its come from observing throughout the primary campaign.
But you want an example of Obama’s arrogance? How about his refusal to campaign in West Virginia or Kentucky? How about his refusal to agree to additional debates once he had ‘the lead’? And you want to SEE arrogance — check out his body language and attitude after his disasterous last debate performance.
I know, I know. But I’ve lost too many cats, and just not sure I have the emotional strength to contemplate that again.
I was in tears for at least a few days after I turned down the offer to take the rental kitty home. But, she loved her home turf so much, I just couldn’t do that. The owners thought that they couldn’t give her the attention she needed bec. they had 2 young kids. But, I knew it would be okay for her. Apparently I made her a more socialable cat.
I went back to visit, and the 2yo at one point hit her over the head with a tiny plastic shovel. She didn’t flinch. Course, mother of 2 yo was completely aghast, and kept apologizing to me. But, then I knew that kitteh knew she was part of that family, come what may!
I hope you realize how many kitteh lovers there are at the Lake. I find cat behavior totally fascinating!
the one that has radar about the food level in the bowl now has a new trick-for the last few months-took me a while to figure out it was going on-she blocks callie the collie from entering a room or going to another room by blocking the way……just sits there, and callie is ’afraid’ cautious of her, unless i have food in my hand, then she’ll jump right over her……is a game, i figured out finally……if she’s that afraid, food wouldn’t work.
but the other day coming in the front door, sunshine swooped her paw at her just to remind her she could, and callie jumped back about 4 feet……so, i’ve tried to break that up…obviously something went on more than i am aware of between those two……am rearranging the living room so she can’t do that anymore, at least she can’t there, i can’t stop the blocking of doorways.
at night, if callie isn’t in the bedroom, i hafta come out and tell sunshine to let her through…….cats……sunshine ’tolerates’ callie, that’s about it…but they’ll sleep two feet away from each other…ellie on the other hand is her buddie and they rub faces and ellie rubs all over callie….callie licks ellie’s ears. they hang out together in the yard, want in and out together……buds. doesn’t seem to bother sunshine who plays momma to ellie. last night they were on their blanket on the bed, belly to belly, first time i’ve seen them do that.
valley girl, 83—lol—that was funny.
that was thoughful of you to not usurp her, but she woulda been happy with her adopted human-you, too….sometimes having someone that is around is better than a great place with noone there to pet you…kittehs are nice. my mom asks once in a while, now why do people like cats? not a kitteh lover. but better.
we need a kitteh thread one day!!!! about what our loveys do.
and a doggeh thread!!!
I can only grin at that. We’ve had many, many great discussions about tigers. And many aren’t shy about grieving here, myself included, when we lose one. All part of being a community.
In case you’re wondering why I use tigers, the Japanese describe domestic kittehs as, “the tiger that feeds from your hand.”
My kittens just love FDL and Ms Hamsher
We’re gonna have diaries, or is it dairies (hmmmm, raw milk), on Monday. Prolly won’t ever make it to the front page but sure would be fun…
oh good, valley girl, i thought it was a kitty that didn’t get people company!! and i swore off more pets, until little elvis the tiger came, then when he died horribly from a heart condition a guy at the local appliance store had sunshine and she was living outside at night…..so, i took her home……then got ellie to keep her company, best decision i ever made, she is my favorite animal of all time. but i have said no more animals after these are gone.
i like it when i’m doing something ’normal’ that i don’t do often enough, and they sit there trying to figure out what i’m doing!!!! (like trying to pick up for the cable man to come, or when i didn’t cook for a while and when i did they sat there going, food, we know it involves food, what is she doing with it?)
they’re funny and definitely rule my house and my schedule in many ways. worth it.
yeah dragon, it could be a thread about ’entitlement’!!!!! about false perceptions about kittehs!!!!! ha ha.
gottta go pick up some more stuff to get it out of the way of the cable man, thanks.
awwwwww, cute overload. They are just precious.

Now we know who is charge at your abode! Beeuutiful
I don’t remember how long you’ve been around the lake. I’ve been here for a while, and one of the first kitteh comments I remember reading was from punaise- of course which I remember responding to. He lost 2 kittehs in the course of a month or so. Lola and Cesar. I don’t remember the story about Lola, but loss of Cesar was a heart- breaker.
I lost my two oldest, Min at 19 and Yang at 14, in the last 9 weeks. I know how he felt.
oh, that is just such a great pic!
Oh yeah, I just live here and provide food and shelter.
It took us a number of years to recover from our last cat dying but these two have won our hearts.
I remember that pic when you first posted it. They grow so fast.
Them kittehs can be heart-breakers. I grew in a family that one way or the other had many pets. Cats, dogs, etc., and even a pet horse. But somehow, the kitteh loss hit the hardest. This was a long time back, but my sister’s new husband was somewhat taken aback that she had a vessel in the dresser that contained the ashes of her first and most beloved cat.
5lbs a piece at last weigh in. So sorry about your kitty losses. If you live with cats you love your cats and there is no way round that.
Yes, because Obama has never really accomplished anything of merit to date and thinks he should be President of the United States. To criticize him must be because I am a racist. There is no other explanation.
We had one cat that would not eat meat… only fish but we did not question her preferences. When she died we were, coincidentally, putting in a fish pond. She is buried beneath it and we talk to her every day.
I posted this over the weekend and can’t resist posting it again. There’s a message in this clip for those in tune. The guy without a shirt at the end is George Adamson, of Elsa fame.
Christian the Lion
Far out.
Are you a phylogynist?
Funny how people can view the same event and reach different conclusions, the Rashomon effect. I see Obama’s refusal to campaign in West Virginia and Kentucky as accepting political reality. He knew he had no chance, so why waste the energy? As for his refusal to agree to additional debates, it was politics. I doubt Hillary, were she ahead, would agree to additional debates. The idea of a political campaign is to win. It’s not patty cake. Candidates who lead don’t do things to benefit their opponents. They don’t even mention them by name. I didn’t watch the last debate or many debates before that. It may mark me a closed minded, but I didn’t like Hillary for several reasons and I didn’t see anything she could say as changing my mind. As for body language, it’s a pretty slim reed to hang a charge of arrogance.
Here’s a hypothetical. Were the candidate exactly like Obama, same inflections, same suits, same physical appearance everything the same except the candidate is white. Would he be arrogant?
Thank you
uh, I think that was snark.
I forgot the *g thingy. Sorry.
“The struggle against fascism and capitalism will continue until the new energy technologies and communication tools decentralize life and deliver the power to control individual to communities and local groups linked
world-wide by the new information technologies.”
“What emerges in it’s place may very well be a grass roots right wing populism (see Bob Barr and the right wing Libertarians) but the decentralization brought about by the new energy technologies will break the long standing capital monopolies…”
The central monopoly is on energy! We are witnessing the results of long standing business relationships and policies. The energy “Aristocrats” enable by our instilled addiction, their business, have certainly gamed the system, successful in “usurping law” in the quest for cash and political control. Jefferson’s feared “aristocratic usurpation” of constitutional checks and balances in the lust foe endless profit is realized. This is a threat liberty and is a threat from within, and dangerous as is foreign enemy.
When the power is “turned off” the network goes down! Then what do people do? American’s liberty is assaulted when energy costs are out of control and the energy companies make billions. “Time and space” have been made less restricted to “life” by the automobile and the fuel we pay for! Take the monopolized stored energy sold as a commodity away and we are back to horse and buggy? The connection between energy cost and our liberty is ignored but real.
The evidence is all around us like “gravity” these days as to the realities which enslave the human condition….. Obama is a threat to these interests. The surrogates mouthpieces which do not deserve mention, reference in “OPERATION UPPITY” are grasping at air! There is nothing to support their assertions, while the added gravity” which drags us all down, their employers are well represented by baseless attacks from hacks…
protect that flow of oil…
Natural Selection Corporate Treason Executive Oil & The Iraq Oil Plot!
nomolos–i went awwwwww then AWWWWWWWWW!

i wish more people would join flicker and post some of their photos on it……….clicking on my name leads to the fdl reader page that jane and kobe created…….mine is on there, still under construction.
I was 99% sure that you got the snark, but there are *certain* ahem commenters who turn up from time to time and uh, don’t have any sense of humor or irony whatsoever. If you know what I mean.
They’ve got anger down. It shows through the sarcasm. Like small children denied a candy bar just before dinner.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Hug yer tigers and tell ‘em ya luv ‘em.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.

This marks me as a spoil sport and no animal lover, (both true charges) but I think people should take their cat stories some place else. Were I the moderator, I would moderate them out.
That’s what sites like blogger and wordpress are for — so you can start your own blog and run it as you wish.
Oh poo!
Tried a blog. It got overrun with spam. No serious posters. I still think Off Topic is Off Topic. Nothing personal.
ekunin–you’ve been here long enough to know that when another thread comes along and there are no on-topic posters left, which there weren’t, the conversation can take a turn…it was no longer a current thread, they always say in the next one to ’take ot back the prior thread’……doesn’t mean you can’t comment on-topic anymore on the thread, just means we’re allowed to go off-topic…..here on the east coast we don’t have a ’late night’ thread, so, this is how we do it……and i visited your blog quite a few times, but didn’t comment.
Sorry, I didn’t know. Hadn’t run into a thread running down in this fashion before. My apologies. How come you didn’t comment on my blog? I haven’t posted in months in the belief I was talking to myself. I guess I was. I’m not objective, but I believe my theory (which happens to be the opposite of everything my father believed) explains what’s going on today. We’ve been driven crazy by inferiority (human nature sucks) with some of us going to great lengths to “distinguish” themselves. It explains why the masters of agribusiness are ready to poison everything, including themselves, to remain the masters of agribusiness.
