The gathering this year is hot. Whoda thunk? Austin in July …
There have been a lot of panels and some good speeches last night — Wes Clark and Howard Dean were, as they often are, simply riveting. And who would have wanted to miss this morning’s panel on the word "fuck" featuring Atrios, Digby, Jesse Taylor and Kevin Drum?
As it has been the last two years, though, the real heart of the Netroots Nation action is in the face-to-face interaction that goes on here. It is, in fact, inexpressibly delightful to finally put faces to people who you’ve known, in some cases for years, simply through their e-mails or their blogs.
It’s also a lot of fun to meet politicians and politicos, especially some of the top organizers, who come here in person.
So here are some quick snapshots:

More in a bit.
UPDATE: Some more pix …
Scary bloggers plot to take over the world: From left, Joel Silverman, Matt Stoller, Atrios, and Dday. (Not sure who the fellow with back to the camera is.)
Joe Garcia (FL-25) and Joe Trippi.

Hi CBL! I just got my car washed professionally, so that I am not tooooo embarrassed to drive pups around town.
Hi David! Was Thers MC-ing the session on “####”? I hope FDL’s thread made it into the discussion. I was kinda proud of that.
Mostly cooler than here in San Antonio, altho, it was hotter on a couple of days. Hasn’t gotten to 100 yet in July here in SA, but did hit 100 in Austin. Come back in Sep. for Austin City Limits concert.
The NYT has another in its series of open door op-eds for neocons. In today’s adventure Orwellian logic is invoked: Using bombs to stave off war
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07…..orris.html
It promises an Israeli strike against Iran in 4 to 7 months and warns that if a conventional strike doesn’t work (and it wouldn’t) then they’ll just have to nuke the place. Insane to the point of hallucination? Well yes, but Andrew Rosenthal who edits the Times editorial page just eats this stuff up.
The time frame seems wrong. It’s got to be three months to benefit the Republic’s election chances.
Sooo…McNasty thinks Obama is a socialist. Finally a good reason to vote for Obama.
So the writer of the NYT article is:
Benny Morris, a professor of Middle Eastern history at Ben-Gurion University, is the author, most recently, of “1948: A History of the First Arab-Israeli War.”
Well McBush just doesn’t KNOW if Obama is a socialist or NOT- but then- there are zillions of things that McBush doesn’t know.
Clusterfuck has apparently agreed to a timetable for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq- but he calls it “aspirational” (well supposing that he can SAY that word).
So his position is that this timetable isn’t really a timetable- it just LOOKS like a timetable but it’s ASPIRATIONAL.
More gooper double talk
So Clusterfuck’s position is “Sure there’s a fuckin timetable in there- but we don’t really MEAN it– wink–wink”
Wonder if Clusterfuck realizes that he has only six months left to fuck up america?
The question I have had for a long time now is why the Times editorial staff gives these loons such easy access to its pages. Well, that and trying to decide if these contributors write their stuff on a drunk or coming off of one.
Aspirational first entered the Republican lexicon I believe when it was applied to limits on greenhouse gases. And yes, it translates into “we don’t really mean it.”

ya know Hugh – this is one of those moments where I wish I could write purdy – my gut tells me it’s a ‘Me Too’ thing
after watching Time, Newsweek, WaPo do it, an unworldly vain guy like Pinch had to have one too
wish I could flesh it out better than that but these are rich guys who don’t even drive but order the Turbo Bentley when they see their neighbors have one
From that NYT op-ed:
So, now, exactly who threatens whom on a daily basis?
In this NYT op-ed yet another Israelophile threatens Iran with a possibly nuclear attack and claims that this is necessary because “[Israel is] threatened almost daily with destruction by Iran’s leaders.”
Iran is not in a position to credibly threaten Israel with physical destruction. The “destruction”, referred to in translations of their rants is an end to Jewish supremacy and apartheid in the region formerly known as Palestine — the kind of “destruction” that befell the Union of South Africa. The credible physical threats seem to be going in one direction only.
The U.S. is being asked to assure the regional nuclear monopoly of the world’s leading nuclear proliferator. I’d recommend negotiations to denuclearize the entire region.
“I have an aspirational goal to honor and protect to you foresaking all others”
