Taking a clue from his senior foreign policy adviser Richard Armitage, who recklessly chatted with Bob Woodward about Joe Wilson's wife's job at the CIA, presumptive GOP Presidential nominee John McCain alerted the enemy to Barack Obama's travel plans this weekend:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain commented on Friday on the unannounced timing of a high-security trip by Barack Obama to Iraq, saying he believed his Democratic rival was going this weekend.
Of course, like Dickie Armitage's "leak," McCain's careless disclosure could have repercussions far beyond its gossipy intent. And it doesn't just endanger Barack Obama:
"I believe that either today or tomorrow -- and I'm not privy to his schedule -- Sen. Obama will be landing in Iraq with some other senators" who make up a congressional delegation, McCain said at a Republican fund-raiser.
I wonder if the GOP-embedded mainstream media will pay attention to this unauthorized release of Congressional Delegation travel plans, since their glamour teevee stars Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, and Brian Williams are also along for the ride?

This settles it. McCain is too stupid to tie his own shoes. Plus he’s a SOB of the first order.
Difficult to decide: thoughtless or reckless? But certainly careless, and idiotic for sure.
We as a nation and after 8 years of the Bush Regime cannot trust Johnny McTeleprompter in the White House.
Honestly, I think it was extremely reckless, bordering on criminal, Teddy!
The positive spin to this? Barack Obama lands in Iraq….and 80,000 Iraqis show up bringing flowers & candy.
I wonder what McTeleprompter would say to that if it happened?
* A person commits the crime of reckless endangerment if the person recklessly engages in conduct which creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person. “Reckless” conduct is conduct that exhibits a culpable disregard of foreseeable consequences to others from the act or omission involved. The accused need not intentionally cause a resulting harm or know that his conduct is substantially certain to cause that result. The ultimate question is whether, under all the circumstances, the accused’s conduct was of that heedless nature that made it actually or imminently dangerous to the rights or safety of others.
Endangerment can range from a misdemeanor to a felony.
per Wickiepedia
McTeleprompter can’t stop lying & deceiving:
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/07/18/mccain-rigs/
Make it stop!!!! Please, someone, if you have some medicine to fix this man please jump on the 1st train to DC (or Arizona) and give it to him!
Assuming it wasn’t intentional. And I wouldn’t set aside that assumption myself.
He’d shit bricks…! Consider his lovely stroll through the Baghdad Bazaar last year…! ;-)
Loose Lips Sink Ships
Funny how a Navy Man seems to have not mastered that basic concept, which seems very necessary for a commander and chief

Reckless. Do we think that the MSM who are now at risk will get the message? i’ll be following this story with great interest. Practice ducking, Katie …. but keep on smilin’!
I can’t help but wonder if the Secret Service or even the US military has had a little chat about CODEL security with Old Lord McCain. It was an extraordinarily reckless thing to say, whether he really knows anything or not, as our enemies will presume that he does know something.
Why does he hate our troops? Whether his information is correct or not is not relevant. His statement endangered our troops.
have i not been sayingfor 6 monthe when the 5 plane crashes were announced…HE IS RECKLESS????…DAYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!
As we all know, McCain is insane. He wants more destruction, death, and war profiteering. Crazy Neo-con John will do anything to stop Obama. Neo-cons are murderers.
So Rich Armitage is a “senior advisor” to McCain on foreign policy, eh? Is he ubiquitous , or what…?
LOL He’d shit bricks alright. The Iraqis pretty much at this point can’t stand George Bush and anyone who is a member of his political party. Hell, you and I could show up in Iraq with anti-Bush t-shirts on and we’d get a standing ovation and probably lunch with Maliki. ;-)
yah for OPC to fight(other peoples children)
ubiquitous like HERPES
I think it’s so cute Johnny McTeleprompter continues to call it a ‘war’ when we all know we are illegally occupying the country, especially after Georgie stood on the deck of one of our aircraft carriers proclaiming to the world that the mission was accomplished. Every second after that we’ve been illegally occupying that country. Some would argue we were when the first boot hit the ground. Hey, what’s 3 months at this point?
Here’s what I said at Iamtrex: This is, IMHO, about as low as it gets - “Just to show you how much power I have over you, I can expose you to major harm through third parties I don’t even know, merely by announcing your location.” Prince Harry was yanked home by the UK military when his just being in Afghanistan was discussed on some blog. So, Obama’s choice is either - be foolhardy and “manly” and say, “Hell yeah…bring it on…” and go anyway, or NOT go, and be accused of being a wuss by McCain and his surrogates. double play. (yes, I realize the US military won’t allow him to go)To endanger someone else, merely for political gain is, as far as I’m concerned a chargeable offense. We won’t discuss whether or not it’s ‘nice’ or ‘polite’ or ‘classy’ or anything like THAT. People are arrested for ‘reckless endangerment’ here in the US for a whole lot less than this. As far as I’m concerned, I’d like to see someone really quite impressive, with a wire coming out of his or her ear, show up and slap some cuffs on some persons and have it shown on the news with their doing the perp walk and having their heads being bowed down as they are put into an official vehicle to be taken down someplace to have their photo and finger prints taken. THAT is what I would like to see.
OT… Did anyone else watch KO this evening? I had to go and dose our elderly tiger with insulin but I swear I heard him say something about Newt Gingrich endorsing Obama… Or was I having some sort of waking fever dream?
Every Rethug and other assorted warmonger would keel over from a heart attack. Not advocatin’, just sayin’.
I still find it hysterical that Johnny McTeleprompter hasn’t had Secret Service protection while running for the presidency (he does now but he didn’t for the longest time). He must know he’s safe in our country because liberals/Democrats/progressives can hardly kill a fly let alone a person, oh but when Johnny goes to Iraq, he’s got a brigade protecting him as he walks down the streets wearing a bullet proof vest. Barack Obama had to beef up his Secret Service protection this year because….well let’s just say….the neocons of America are as bad as al-Qaida. No one is safe from these killers who aren’t white, privileged, and a neocon.
It’s very telling.
Dugg and your suggestion is strongly seconded.
I just thought of something….maybe that’s why Johnny was eager to let the cat out of the bag? He doesn’t want Obama to go to Iraq to show him up? Hey, could be. Johnny can’t win on his flip-flopping record & love of George Bush alone. He has to play games.
hey ,him and Princess Cindy Lou have 8 RESIDENCES,hard to tell where they are 1/2 the time “g”
Wow Toby, You should send that to your local paper and also the NYTimes and Washington Post.
This is a point we should hammer home. As much as I’d like to see that cheering crowd of 80,000 I ain’t countin’ on it.
CTuttle: An appropriate subject for M & C?
The darker interpretation is that he’s hoping the worst. I’m not sure that even I would want to impugn that motive to him, he does seem to have KKKarl & pals working for him…
I left out the BUT before “he does seem to have…”
Actually, Tobywobblin made reference to this theory too here:
http://firedoglake.com/2008/07.....nt-1546497
I think it’s safe to say ole Johnny knows the landslide in November is going to be so mammoth he’ll end up being the laughing stock of the republic party for decades to come.
At his age, I was thinking shingles…
I’ve already posted today’s… Nebulous Time Horizons And Other Fantasies…
Probably excellent fodder for tomorrow…! ;-)
Btw, I saw your comment at GG…
LOL Even the IRS doesn’t know which homes they’re at since the McTeleprompters don’t pay their taxes for some of them. ;-)
WHy are we being so easy on this man? He’s a neo con, for hundred more years with promises of more wrs on other fronts.. They like death, they like dealing with terrorists from Columbia to Pakistan… I think it should be treated as quite a likely to be intentional invitation on McCains part. GOPers have proven themselves to be bloody criminals.. Note Armitage on his staff.. Need I say more?
707!
hahahahhaahahaha
Marion, I’m hoping you were having a fever dream! Then again, if Gingrich did support Obama it would be the proof we need to say the republic party is dead, dying, a goner. ;-)
more on that
ES, ‘we’…? You must mean the Fawning Corporate Media, not, ‘we’ here at the Lake…! ;-)
don’t get the difference between a time horizon and a time table.
saw that goofy MN guy, Pawlenty, this morning on Cuppa Joe or whatever the hell that atrocity is. He said McCain applauds BO going to Iraq but really should visit these places before he makes policy pronouncements. Utter horseshit. I guess McCain tried to visit Czechoslovakia but for some reason wasn’t able to.
Actually, I’m hoping he IS going to support Obama. It will be, for me, a true and clear indicator that even the hardcore but non-insane (well, not COMPLETELY insane…) Republicans realize what a catastrophuck a Mc$ame presidency, even one term, would be.
But, McCain strolls through Baghdad wearing nothing but a banana hammock.
Oh, by the way, STAT, somebody get word to Obama’s consultants: positively no photos wearing a helmet while riding in a tank with a big, goofy smile.
*looking around the room* I’ve not been easy on him. I know this to be true because I’ve got so many neocons banned on my blog right now (they don’t like what I have to say about ole Johnny) I’ve had the WNI’s oil filter replaced 4 times this week. LOL ;-)
I hope others do.
McCain has already put our troops in harms way and I’m sure that they are on high alert because of his statement. I listened to the hateful radio ads questioning his mental faculties when he was running against Bush in 2000. Maybe there was something to those ads.
Heh.. I should have said, Teddy, he nailed it. Point well taken though.
Yes. And he tried to visit the Soviet Union recently too. Couldn’t find that country either. Poor thing.
Well, one is, like, a horizon, and that’s, like, really really far away, and one is, like, a piece of furniture that you can put your Cheetos on and it’s scary close…
Ouch. My head starts to hurt when I try to channel the Doughy Pantload.
On the whole, yeah. But the presidential race I consider up for grabs. Especially with the media being as it is. The fact that BO is getting so much coverage for such a long time may not be a good thing. Especially from Kouric. thank God nobody pays attention to her.
The man who wrote Gingrich’s Contract On America was with KO tonite, speaking about an endorsement of Obama he’s written somewhere. His theory is that the inevitable tax hikes and expensive liberal programs can be undone later, but the current reckless foreign policy adventurism and anti-Constitutionalism must be stopped, and now. I think his name was Hunter.
And, yes, KO’s tease for the segment made me do a double-take, as it very much sounded like Newt was an Obamacon. But no.
I hope the one picture that comes out of Barack’s trip to Iraq is him playing basketball with our troops….and our troops letting him win. ;-)
You just HAD to remind me, didn’t you… /fit of pique.
E.J.Dionne made the point on Countdown that no matter how far and long you walk, you never actually reach the horizon, which may be the reason that word was chosen. Endless war without end, amen.
You gotta quit smokin’ that shit.
I was thinking that same thing. With all the media AROUND if he does one thing that looks or says one thing that sounds like it even approaches goofy or dumb or wrong, they’ll jump all over him. and the million people in Berlin will mean nothing.
Thanks Teddy for this. Marion was the one who thought she had heard Gingrich was supporting Obama and for a moment thought she was having a fever dream.
Marion…
*making you a cocktail now* You might need it.
;-)
I’m sure Dukakis still regrets his little joy ride, OFG! ;-)
AHA!!! So that’s what I heard from the other room! It wasn’t a fever dream after all. Now I’ve got to scrounge around and find his name and the article… Thanks, Teddy, for restoring the shreds of sanity I thought I had lost!
I think I got it. Thanks. So, they’re, like, different, huh?
Well, if we are having cocktails…
Anyone who’s seen my comments in the past may be happy to know that for the first time……. drum roll …………… I’m using the spell checker.
Yes, KO said something like, “Dr Stephen Hunter, who wrote the Contract On America for Newt Gingrich, has endorsed Barack Obama tonight and will join us here later to discuss his article.” You and I both heard “Gingrich has endorsed Barack Obama” and our ears pricked up. I have to say — I think KO elided the punctuation just a little bit for effect.
But he’s a sportscaster at heart, so I forgive him.
Excellent Beerfart Liberal!
Is that why we don’t have the new comments bar anymore? *g*
That takes hafl the fnu out of cmmoenting.
Rep. Delahunt summed it up beautifully…
From Balloon Juice, I found this comment by Dennis and thought that it was appropos to this discussion……….The candidate who “knows how to win wars” doesn’t seem to know that running your mouth about movements is a sure-fire way to lose. No wonder he got shot down: he probably told every hooker in the Philippine Islands exactly when and where he’d be heroically dropping bombs.
So Phil Gramm steps down. No one could have anticipated that the McCain campaign would have room for only one flannel-mouthed old asshole
There was some mention made this morning that the “new comments” indicator was busted (sick squirrels?) and that the tech staff was aware and working on it.
This is OT but I tried to use italics to highlight the comment from ballonn juice and it didn’t work. Help
“No wonder he got shot down: he probably told every hooker in the Philippine Islands exactly when and where he’d be heroically dropping bombs.”
Good gawd JPL9……sounds plausible! Scary….but plausible…*pouring myself a cocktail*…I wonder what else McTeleprompter will divulge to the enemy from now until election day?
A totally made-up (?) meeting of network execs:
“Our ad revenues are gonna suck. The dems candidate is a shoo-in, so flush all our bonuses”
“We could, like slant stuff. Make John all mavericky and stuff, while Obambi eats arugala and wheat germ while burning incense.”
“But would it hold the polls close enough for massive ad buys?”
“My bonus! My bonus!”
I don’t know about the rest of y’all, but that’s getting awfully long to type so often. How’s about we just use NOCHA? We might all be able to sleep better… [ducks whatever anyone throws]
Yes but wouldn’t it be binding, like a treaty, insuring extended deployment without so much as a congressional vote?
Testing
NOCHA….I like-cha.
ding!
What really sticks in my craw is, what makes him the “man that knows how to win wars”…? Honestly, his stint as a POW…? His often vacancy on the Senate Foreign Relations or Armed Services committees…? I mean really… WTF?
I don’t imagine he’ll be far away from McSFB’s ear, however. His name may no longer be on the program but he’s still a player.
If Johnny gets in the White House I wonder if he will tell the world he sent the CIA to Iran to kill this country’s leaders and they should be landing at any time now?
Back in the day, I was an intern at the State Dept. My first day was the day Reagan was shot — kind of sticks in your memory. Maybe it’s because of that, that I believe that US Secret Service folks are about as non-partisan in their jobs as human beings can be, and they are also among the most astute observers of political dynamics around.
I’ll bet the head of McCain’s USSS detail probably took a few moments at some point to speak with the Senator in private, to share a few choice words with the Senator about how his remarks might be somewhat troubling from a security standpoint: “Say what you want about your opponent, but my buddies are the ones who are ready to take a bullet for him, just like I will for you — and you are making their jobs a whole lot tougher when you shoot your mouth off like that. I really hope nothing happens to Obama over there because you gave the bad guys over there a heads up on some of the details of this trip.”
If I were McCain (*shudder*), I’d be down on my knees praying to God, Allah, or Gussie Busch that this trip is uneventful.
The NOCHA Administration. Ohhh, I like it. I think the translation for that word, in some ancient dialect no longer spelt or spoken, also means dickheads.
Of course, that is inapplicable since a dickhead serves a useful function.
I’m not sure, but he obviously knows so much about winning wars that he doesn’t need to show up to talk about them. Talking is so, well, non-gunly…
Actually, pilots aren’t aware of targets until the pre-flight briefing. They have a general idea but they wouldn’t have that info while hangin’ out in the upscale bars in Olongapo or the O Club on base.
I love you no shit, you buy me drink?
Please see my comment at #74 and repeat after me:
“Media Constructed Reality”
Both, Maliki and Shrub are determined to avoid legislative scrutiny… Maliki knows Parliament will not pass it and you know what the Dems think of Shrub’s intentions… So, backroom deals are the only manner, hence ‘temporary’ agreements, rather than the formal SOFA/SFA… The Iraqi’s have a major election still tentatively scheduled along with our Nov. elections…!
From what I’ve heard about shingles from people who’ve had it, I don’t know that I’d wish it on him.
He’d probably take antivirals and not get the full effect of the shingles, anyway.
Not only that this trip is uneventful, but that Iraq and Afghanistan are both generally quiet this weekend. All our troops are at risk for this idiot’s having revealed movements and methods today. Does he forget the last time Cheney was in Afghanistan?
So old flannel-mouthed asshole LIEberman is the only one left?
Excellent point. You don’t sign on to a service where it’s your job to put your body between your “protectee” and a bullet if you’re going to be partisan. At least I pray to heaven that W and the guys didn’t manage to politicize the Secret Service. That thought doesn’t even tolerate consideration… And I do hope that quiet conversation took place.
Great point Peterr.
One minor little correction… It’s arugula…! ;-)
True, but the point is….Johnny is the type to have the lips to sink the ship. ;-)
The son of an Admiral couldn’t get the “down low” on the “QT?”
I think the comment was snark, not meant to be taken literally. It was more of a character portrait of St. John McTwitchy. But, I can still defend the comment as a worthy possibility. He did, after all, free the hostages of Colombia.
Yeah. Even at the height of my loathing of Nixon when I heard he had phlebitis I had to sympathize…
Oh, I certainly agree with that.
I saw no mention of the green leafy substance on the mantle, between the picture of bin Hidin and the burning of ol’ glory in the fireplace on the front cover of The New Yorker.
Ted!Fest upstairs.
Last Chance… For entries for the Toobz fest…! ;-)
Maybe after the trip, the media will call McCain on his comments. Their lives are on the line also and they might not be happy about it.
It’s up to us, and Olbermann and Maddow. I’m convinced the fix is in, and there will be no major media operatives criticizing McCain between now and Election Day. Some actual journalism may occur, but it won’t get much airtime. At all.
Air strikes over North Viet Nam were part of a continuous effort. Hanoi was a constant target, as were other cities. Specifics though weren’t worked out until a day or two before hand and the carrier would have been at Yankee Station for way longer than that. Yankee Station was a location at a particular longitude and latitude in the South China Sea. It changed periodically but was the base of all naval operations in the area. The DeSoto patrols, the destroyers involved in the Gulf of Tonkin incident, rotated between patrolling the North Vietnamese coast and plane guarding for the Yankee Station carrier.
Along with Phil Gramm to handle economics I’d say McCain is assembling the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
OH, he did? Great. Does that mean his legislative crap which has caused our Housing and Energy problems also “steps down”?
I wonder if UBS will keep him in light of the recent disclosure of their secret accounts to hide US taxable dollars.
