On the rare occasions when Team Bush or their fellow Republican office-holders do something almost sensible, it’s often something that they and their media buddies have attacked Democrats for doing or proposing. The planned meeting in Switzerland between US and Iranian envoys is just the latest example.
In the week after 9/11, Joe Lieberman introduced with Max Cleland (D-GA) a bill calling for what could have been a good idea: A new Department of Homeland Security. Karl Rove at first opposed and attacked the idea — then, after overnight polling showed that it was popular with the American people, decided to coopt it. He had the congressional Republicans push his own homeland security bill, loaded with nasty things like anti-labor provisions — a bill he knew that the Democrats would oppose. Then, when Cleland was up for re-election, the Republicans beat him with ads attacking him for "voting against homeland security".
Fast-forward five years: Public disgust with Bush had just given the Democrats nominal control of Congress for the first time since 1994. New House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did what Republican legislators had been doing for years: She went to Damascus for talks with Syrian officials. And of course the Bushies and their media pals howled like demons hit with a holy-water cannon. Then barely a week later, what do the Bushies do? They send Condi Rice to Damascus to meet with Syria’s leaders.
Now we come to Barack Obama’s proposing that we talk with the Iranians. Again, the Bushies and the righties howled; "Chamberlain" and "appeaser" were among the nicer things they called him. And again, the Bushies will do what a promient Democrat advocates doing: They’re going to talk with the Iranians.
Talk about two-faced!

What I’m hearing about the talks that
BushDarth is proposing is that the person we’re sending won’t actually be allowed to negotiate. So it’s really just the same old thing with a new label stuck on the front for the MSM to buy. (We read the real labels on the side.)BushCo literally has no foreign policy that doesn’t involve someone pulling a trigger or pushing a button.
Complete Failure on that front.
It’s no wonder every country on the planet is collectively holding it’s breath and waiting for him to stagger off into the sunset.

There seems to be some source of light out there from about 6:30am ’til about 8:30pm, more than that I couldn’t vouch for with any certitude…
I sincerely hope Our 50th State and all its residents are doing very very well, including you and yours. The Sweetie and I will be one island over from you in about 5 weeks’ time, y’know, just to check up on everybody. We intend to spend multiple hours per day mostly immersed in seawater.

As a peace officer Suz you know how nicw it will be if we have no homeless and it saves about 25% to have them housed (hospital emergency and jails). A lot of new data has come out of this. I am pressuring the County Supervisors to use some of their properties as site for low cost housing.
BTW, apropos of NN, EW’s x-post of the Rove/Fitz story over at Big Orange is on the Rec list, and currently at +447 w/326 comments. (Hell of a story for the FDLco squirrels to take a PTO day on, if ya ask me.)

Ian the stock market went up 2% the last two days. In the face of all the bad economic news and Bernanke annoucing the economy was in bad shape and many Americans were hurting. Fannie Mae and Fredie Mac were tanked at 1/10 of last years volume, inflation is at 5.5% noone has money to “consume” and we are hooked on oil/gas at huge prices so why the optimisim?

Server time can be a major headache as time MUST be synchronized or things can go haywire…. They will need to reset time in the bios if the server keeps drifting it’s clock… could be a real bitch!!
