had an interesting discussion last night with Amory Lovins re. energy solutions (nuke, etc. VS. renewables)

China, which has the world’s most ambitious nuclear program, by the end of 2006 had seven times that much capacity in distributed renewables, and they were growing it seven times faster. Take a look at 2007, in which the US or Spain or China added more wind capacity than the world added nuclear capacity. The US added more wind capacity last year than we’ve added coal capacity in the past five years put together.

And renewables, other than big hydro, got last year $71 billion of private capital…”

This plus what Pickens has been saying plus the diary by Jerome a Paris gives me a different perspective on wind energy.

The report said UBS has estimated that it has 1,000 declared accounts in Switzerland for U.S. clients against 19,000 undeclared, with a combined value of $17.9 billion.

and over $100 million a year in revenues have been lost (even with the very low tax rates on the wealthy under Bush..in fact the numbers above show just how small those tax rates actually are if the est. only a $100m take on nearly $18 billion invested!).

The average size of these accounts is $100,000…apparently concealed as “withdrawals” for household expenditures and then was redeposited in schemes that avoided the reporting requirements established to prevent money laundering. Thus these banks and their wealthy clients violated laws established to prevent narcotics trafficking and terrorism.

The rich follow different rules than the rest of us, apparently.
