I don’t have a lurkster to do my refreshing for me.
toonz!
it helps to keep chocolate and pecans around
Are you Digging Neuro???
Ya still at Betsy’s?
No! Firefox won’t let me see the magic letters and numbers
That’s why I stopped using Firefox
Does Firefox have a Digg plug-in, or something, that I don’t have?
It never rains, it pours.
I will probably lose my contract job in SillyValley a week from tomorrow.
I’m really drunk. Shitfaced. I earned it.
Would you believe it Digg just went down… dam Stevens has moved his truck over their way… or maybe they are putting those taps in place again… you know the ones they don’t need a warrant for!!

4th Amendment Hit Squad from http://www.bluetidalwave.com/2…..-list.html
On Wednesday July 9, 2008 our U.S. Constitution, specifically the 4th amendment was officially torched by the U.S. government. The Democratic leadership in control of the 110th Congress lighted the definitive match to burn up every citizen’s civil liberties while a giddy unpopular President George Bush and his highly voter despised rubber stamp Republican caucus held the gas can in bravado glee.
The world would be a better place if Bush was as an effective leader of the globe as he is at whipping the Congressional Democrats in legislative battles.
Twenty One Senate Democrats voted to give final approval today to broadening the government’s spy powers and providing legal immunity for the phone companies that took part in the illegal Bush wiretapping program.
This game was really fun.
sorry to hear that, ThatGuy
That hugs… ThatGuy…! 8-(
fuck!!! oh that guy i am so forking sorry
You have TG! Bnad break ups will do that to the best of musicians :>(
Wow. So wha’ happened?
the digg is down?
wow, what won’t sen ted do to prevent tedfest from getting more publicity? (/s)
No. Spilled beer on her carpet and left.
OK, not entirely true. Spilled beer and stayed. But home now.
*clink* Unemployed and drunkity meself.
Holy Gahd, dude!
So damned sorry – keep your head up.
Suzanne, no /s tag needed.
You are not paranoid when people really are plotting to do you harm!
Ya helped clean it up, tho…? ;-)
Did we lose a little more functionality today?
here’s some delbert and paul for ya that guy
gangster of love
Oh hell yeah. And then I cleaned her kitchen. My karma is up to date.
have to hard refresh to see the comments
believe me, the tech crew knows of the problem
Here is a very thoughtful analysis of the prospect of shifting to wind to get rid of fossil fuel for generation of electricity (i.e., on half of the Pickens plan) by Jerome a Paris, a French energy analyst: http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..203/553055
Is FDL back to normal? What happened? Should we expect more downtime as changes are implemented?
sweet, thanks wigwam
Digg is hard down… can’t even ping the site… crazy shit happening on the toobz tonight……. just checked the Veterans web site and they are down also…
we were down but are back up – ya have to hard refresh the page (f5 on pc) to see new comments
we hope to have it permanently fixed very soon.
You are vewy perceptive.
*sob* kpig is down – i can listen over the radio but…
Uh oh, not again…
Heh, ya mean Dylan was right…? “The answer is blowin’ in the wind…”

g’nite
I would not have spilled beer on Betsy’s carpet if I hadn’t been so excited to see NDFG again. Sometimes hugs can get out of hand. Or beers get out of hand. One or the other.
so dish – who all did you meet and see?
some of us were chained to the computer at home
Is anyone joining us for mexican food tomorrow besides Austin firepups?
I did instruct TB to give NDFG a hug for me at the treehouse, I empathize, WDD! ;-)
1,706 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the late night Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Ah, the “toonz” ta sooth the savage breast of the savage beast, I hope that these new Kos-like changes in FDL don’t change the late night culture here and the community. I work nights so I can’t comment all the time durin’ the day but FDL “Late Nite” and “Late Late Nite” keep me plugged in and I especially appreciate the music and video space you provide here Suzanne. I hope that the folks on the left coast don’t have the clout ta change the nightly format here ‘cuz I for one appreciate the openness and, I think, the stress level among community members at night is much more managable.
I’m concerned that as FDL goez upscale and more “Kos-like” and mainstream, we’re losin’ some of the older, long time voices in the community. I am happy for Citizens Hardin Smith and Hamsher that FDL is growing and is makin’ waves in the larger reality of our political lives but I’m afraid that a very important function and a big part of the character of this community is threatened…I hope I’m wrong. Losing Citizens like oklahoma kiddo, lahoma and raven is disturbing and isn’t the result of conflict with other community members but, apparently, with staff moderators and even one or the other site owner.
I’m both sad and hopeful for FDL and I’m old enough ta notice change and accept it…though I realize I don’t hafta like it. So please, Suzanne, keep the “toonz” and the tunes comin’ on “Late Nite”…FDL at night is like havin’ a summer cottage by the lake, let’s pay thetaxes and keep it in the family.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE STRUGGLE IS NEVER OVER…AIN’T IT GRAND??!!!
Looks like there are quite a few web sites going down… just tried a fishing one in Oregon… can’t even get the IP resolved….
Digg is working!
(psssst. Suz. shouldn’t “manhatten” read “manhattan”? The Spelling Police)
I didn’t go, watched the Ustream on nn.org while chatting at the Treehouse. Then zipped over to Betsy’s after to meet up w/ her and the Spookelehs.
I would like to…can you deliver to KS?
Yes.
Holy shit there’s a lot of sites down tonight. Even Slashdot is down.
i have no plans to change late late nite, norske and i have not heard of any.
thank you for your kind words about what we try to do here on the dark side of the lake.
Wish I could…
What are you using for bait?
FUCK!
And so it begins… ?
Wow, norske, I hope not either… Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen Raven for quite some time…! 8-(
Well said, Norske. It’s the people, and this is what we like to do. Keep this possible and all will be well. Even if this part of it becomes just a small inlet in a much larger Lake.
F-O-R-K.
Yer busted.
ok, everyone hard refresh and presto change it is fixed
now, watch me pull a rabbit outta my hat
/. is up for me FWIW.
I can’t make any sense of the outages.. may be a backbone or as I said earlier they are replacing the taps at all those hubs across the nation so they can they can scoop even more info from the toobz…Something may be afoot and we are just seeing the tip of the proverbial ice berg???
shit
For Steelhead shrimp on a diver and bait rig…
Spew!!! Good one.
I haven’t been reading as much FDL as I did in the past. What happened to OKkid, lahoma and raven? I have noticed community changes….
new vacuums for the tubez
Hmmm… even after a hard refresh it still says F*ck…! ;-)
Not here in California at least not yet… your link times out Neuro from here
Huh, that doesn’t look so good.
On the other hand, this looks OK.
there has always been an ebb and flow to the commenters here at the lake. some are more noticeable than others.
At least you appreciated it…! *g*
Wait. Weren’t we warned about this? DNS something or other? The whole forking intertoobz or sumthin’? I know I didn’t just dream it.
the first one loaded up just fine
the second i got page load error
Norske, I hope you keep on urging us to keep the faith, I for one will try my best to do so
Your exhortations and sage analysis are one of the features of FDL I certainly hope we will continue to see here
#2 was http://www.internettrafficreport.com/main.htm
long way from tupelo – more paul thorn
I’ll gladly, second that notion…!
still wont load for me but works for the lurking mod
forking enn ess aaa wants some of my vanilla caramel fudge ice cream and the forkers can suck rotten eggs as far as i am concerned. very rotten eggs
the hard refresh was for the title of the post ct
Also I meant half the systems in the 1st link are showing 30%+ packet loss, pegged in the red.
wangdangdoodle — know of any other Austin firepup gatherings or meetings in connection with Netroots Nation convention? I would love to meet Jane, Marcy, others.
how bad of a bad is that?
hmmm, I was able to Submit, and so far only mpais has Dugg…don’t know where mpais is located
Heh, I didn’t even read that…! ;-)
I am getting a lot of “could not find host” errors. That usually means router issues… could be what are called border routers which have tables for many netorks in them and service IP look up requests… the other possibilities is that there are Domain Name servers down… berry fishy if you ask me… have never seen some thing like this before…
woohoo – gonna try again
Not from here…I get for that link: Firefox can’t find the server at http://www.internettrafficreport.com
Not sure as I’ve never looked at that site before, but if the measurement is accurate then I’m sure that can’t be normal. Backbone break somewhere?
Suz I still cant get there from here…
the digg is very very slow loading and then i got page load error. i’m gonna do a reboot – maybe it’s on my end
i’ll be right back
no fair having spitball fights while i’m gone.. the lurkster has a new troll zapper button that he’s been wanting to try out – i’m just saying…
Besides dinner tomorrow night, we have a swim party planned at Deep Eddy Sunday afternoon. Anything else will be spur of the moment.
Seems more like router or DNS issues… Suz can you ask the back room boys to see if they can connect all around the country… I sure can’t..
A big hole in the DNS was found and then last week a patch was released — anyone know when the patch was expected to be pushed? Maybe folks are restarting DNS servers at the moment.
Crazy I can ghet to Aljazeera.net… go figure..
But the Bluehill site is showing packet loss, so that’s after DN gets resolved to IP addy. Interesting, the ones that aren’t out are all at 0% loss, everything else is pegged at 30+%.
How will I find out about other things? Betsy said I was on the “list” but I did not know about tonight’s gathering. Are any of the events at the Convention free? Know anyone who attended the Meet John Dean deal tonight — had I known before I drove home after work, I would have been there.
Fortunately, my site doesn’t seem to have been hit… I getting my usual traffic for this late hour… Btw, Dog and Pony Shows…
Huffington post connects to the base server OS but the site is down…
What an excellent way to end the day
http://balkin.blogspot.com/200…..g-you.html
Hell,maybe even the decade
How Addington strong armed the OLC to write the “opinions”
rebooted and still can’t connect to digg
Huh. Really big packet loss in North America starting about half an hour ago.
Tinfoil hat on…what (other than shutting down ET’s Ted Stevens Poetry Contest or FDL’s Big Announcement) would be a motive for somebody messing with the Toobz like it seems somebody may be doing tonight?
I have no technical knowledge whatsoever so can only rely on those who do to suggest plausible reasons for what may be going on
Taking off tinfoil hat now
Same thing here either they are fine or nada… except for Huffpr which gets to the base OS of the server…
tex betsy is gonna be your best bet for info. she knows everything there is to know about who is doing what when and where. she is amazing.
i think she is doing the coordinating of the fri nite dinner for the fdl attendees
At this point I’m guessing it’s not you. Some toobz got unplugged somwhere.
putting on t/f hat
need to install new vacuums to suck up more info from the tubes
taking off t/f hat
Citizen CTuttle:
Hey Brother CT, do you have access to Brother Raven’s facebook or e-mail…one of the other commrads in arms apparently has been in contact and confirms he won’t be around… I think we have lost a number of long timers and I think there seems ta be a bias toward some commenters and frontpage posters at the expense of others that disturbs me greatly. It’s one thing to have a good ol’ set-to with another commenter or poster but it’s another to have the moderators or site owners step in as en loco parentis and take the part of one agauinst the other. I think that the level of condescention from some of the upper reaches has increased noticably…I guess I’m startin’ ta feel what Citizen Raven spoke of – a kind of change in voice, treatin’ some folks like children even when they are actin’ like adults.
So let’s hope we ken keep the culture here late nite by the lake and maintain our surcease of sorrow and listen ta the frogs and the fish jump.
I think you needed a badge to get in to Dean tonight. It was the other Dean, tho, not John. YEEAARRGHH!
It was streamed live on netrootsnation.org, so I felt like I was there.
Email me at jackiew1 AT austin DOT rr DOT com and I’ll put you in the email loop.
I still cant get there from here. Where are you located??? I just tried Boston city hall web site and it is just fine… so it is a hoge poge of outages… real strange… like
I said I have never seen anything quite like this ..
You
ARE probably 100% correct Suz
Look. I’m tellin’ y’all. I read a couple days ago that some shit was coming down on the toobz. A big DNS switch-over or something. Certainly someone else saw it besides me.
Anyone else have a weird van parked outside their house right now?
No, it was JOHN DEAN.

I guess that would be a timely explanation given the Congress’s recent capitulation to the enemies of our Constitution
Here I would insert nahant’s proclamation of same if I could remember where I saved it
Can’t get to http://texbetsy.headonradionetwork.com/ can any one else??
norkse – let me look through my f/b friends.. am trying to remmeber what his f/b name was
and promise me, norske, that if ya see changes in late late nites, please let me know. i have worked hard to try to make lln a place where we can let our hair down, be a community, and still wonk politics if we wanna – or if we dont wanna, we dont. we gotta have a place to de-stress and unwind if we are gonna be able to keep on fighting again in the morning.
Here you go Neuro:

Here’s an unofficial guide to NN —
http://www.burntorangereport.com/
I do have his facebook address, I shall contact him, I do want to see him here at the Lake…!
Oh, Waterloo, that’s different. And I missed it entirely. I watched Howard Dean give the keynote on the Ustream at the convention center tonight. Would rather have seen John!
we must be in the blocked section of the country nahant. page load error, just like when i try to digg or go to kpig radio but, i can connect to my blog and the lake so it’s not as bad as it could be
hope i didn’t just jinz the tubes
Believe it or not, takes me here.
That’s a website I don’t check often enough, but should.
Good idea, let’s all sound off with locations and anywhere they can’t connect to.
I’m in Berkeley and can reach anywhere at the moment.
Suz I got your back on that one…ll night is a great way to unwind from the days crap on the news scene specialy when someting like
FISA gets us all pissed off… gotta blow that pent up pressure off///
a white van with tinted windows?
Works here.
boulder creek – can get some and can not get other sites :(
I must hit the feathers if I’m going to be on my game enough to crash NN tomorrow. Y’all try not to break the tubes while I’m napping, ‘k?
As Antony Whatshisname, I mean.
Now that says all the DNS tables are screwed up… that is just not supposed to happen…
g’nite wangdang
So maybe that is a DNS problem after all.
Heh, this one’s black with limo tinted windows and lots of antennae.
Perhaps they’ll scan my dreams tonight.
thanks nahant got it and saved it
I never doubted what you said but this funny business tonight–related or not–does make it seem a little more real and down to earth
can’t seem to keep this danged tinfoil hat off my head tonight!
can’t break what is already broke.. night WDP keep NN hopping and give us a report:>)
tin foil lined bedroom drapes prevent that wangdang
yeah
Citizen Suzanne:
Oh blees your pure heart Sister Suzanne…if ya could come up with a contact for Brother Raven I would be forever in yer debt (well, more’n I already am). I have never considered myself ta be afraid of new technology or concerned about apllications that I can’t control but the speed of changes in the tools available are happenin’ so fast that an old broken down warhorse like this one needs ta stop at the pasture here late nite ta catch up, so ta speak.
hey newton.. are the tubes funky on your side of the hill?
See if ya can get to my dogster page….. http://www.dogster.com/dogs/258435
we’re up to three Diggs now, but Digg has gotten really sluggish for me
or maybe it’s my computer
I can get here http://www.haaretz.com/
Except for the misdirection from Betsy’s site, I’m good. No sites I can’t hit.
Comcast, though.
Cute puppy!
norske, i went through all my f/b friends and i’m not recognizing his name – either he withdrew from my friends or i’m just brain farting when it comes to the name he used.
i’ll keep hunting tho.
Curious, ygm.
Nighters for real this time!
neuro it can’t be you the internet is screwed up… nothing is making rhyme or reason… I can get to some place and not to others… but the number I can’t get to seem to out weigh the ones I can get to…
tucker’s page came up fine
I love that picture of Tucker look closely at the door mat at his feet…
niters for realsies wang dang have fun and give lots of hugs for me tomorrow please
Same here so it has no logic to it…
It’s going take me a long time to get over that. Eventually, I might forgive some of the perps, but I’ll never forget.
May be the backbone your ISP/CableCo/TelCo connects to?
never forget
Love it!
I’m similarly indisposed, I’m looking too… I’m calling it a night, tho! I bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
i’m on dsl and its funky with at best 50/50 odds a site will come up for me
aloha ct
oh good, i can connect to the pig again… maybe the forking white van moved off the tubes
‘Night CT. Sweet dreams.
Are you and Nahant on the same provider by any chance?
AT&T I doubt it but maybe they are putting in new taps… nah… seeing mis resolution issues and just down and out web sites
att here too
What else can’t you hit?
Things are starting to settle down it seems… strange brew going on
hmmmm cream
Aha! A point of commonality! Whereas I’m Covad DSL and working OK.
Packet loss coming down now.
I cna now get back to evry site I try… boy was that strange… like I said never seen anything like that before and I have been on the internet before it went public… some IT folks have a lot of egg on their faces tonight or is that morning?/
and that is good?
is it att that has some kind of big access facility for the enn ess u know who in the bay area, or am I making that up?
att has that secret room that everyone was prohibited from talking about.. it was on 60 minutes.. the room in san francisco
I couldn’t get there before it was one of the first place I went looking… shows New York still at 100% packet loss..
I hear Ted Stevens wrote his own poem for our TedFest! poetry contest. When he hit the “send” button, it clogged up the FDL toobz for three hours or so…
hey et
reminds me of the line in the original star wars, I believe it was obi wan kenobe who said something like, “there’s a disturbance on the dark side of the force”….
Yes. Lost packets never find their way to Heaven. Search parties have to be sent. Pr0n and FDL pages alike fail to download. There is no joy in Mudville tonight.
Or as I like to say about Disneyland: There is no Mud in Joyville tonight.
is Darth by chance on the west coast this week?
boosh was in ca – doing a flyover of the fires and then a fundraiser
Yes, but before there were 3 with 100% loss, so this is better than it was, and if you look at the bottom graph a huge peak of packet loss in now diminishing.
W is. Whirlybirded over the NorCal fires this afternoon, I understand.
darth, like difi, don’t release schedules.
Hiya, Suzanne.
I was hoping the big announcement would be a restoration of the “edit” function, but this might be exciting.
well I’ve had it for tonight, good night all you good people, hope things are working better tomorrow night
suzanne, thanks for fighting to keep lln lln…I appreciate it and I know many others do
Yes that is where the whistle blower on the whole wire tapping thing worked… he watched as they split the main fiber cable and sent all the traffic in two directions one to NSA and the other to where it was supposed to go. they also did that at IIRC 16 other place in the country..
g’nite neuro
i don’t wanna leave the impression that i’ve had to fight to keep it neuro – no one has suggested changing it
I did see that in the charts..
like new york city – currently suffering 100% packet loss?
NY state is still at 0 but Wisconsin came back from oblivion..
that’s good, but i know you would if it were necessary
nite
‘Night, Neuro. Sweet dreams to you.
NY city show up but the rest of the state shows down..
night Neuro hope your fino is healing quickly:>)
nite neuro
stepping into tin foil lined room
so, if they were replacing or upgrading the split, would we have seen the kinda weird shit that we saw tonight?
stepping outta tin foil lined room
Hmmmm! UBS whistle-blower announces that over 20,000 wealthy American citizens have secret sheltered accounts designed to evade US tax-laws…and that selective wealthy US Citizens were actually recruited for such accounts and told how to evade IRS scrutiny (i.e. they were aware that the accounts were illegal).
UBS sets up illegal off-shore tax shelters for 20,000 rich Americans
And we all know that John McCain’s erstwhile financial director in his campaign was ex-Senator Phil Gramm…who is also UBS’s VP of American Operations! It is simply beyond reason that Gramm would not have known about such an operation.
In addition, given the proximity of Gramm’s association with McCain it almost begs an answer as to whether Cindy cCain has deposited any of her millions in UBS foreign accounts on the advice of Senator Gramm? It’s almost certain that she would fit in the “category” of those that would benefit!
Raises the issue of her keeping her tax forms secret to a whole ‘nother level…I’d say!
Citizen Edward Teller:
ROFLMAO…you must be havin fun up there in the semi-frozen tundra where men are men, the sheep run fast and the fascists are about ta be run outta town.
this one is still down.. Router: sl-gw9-nyc-8-0.sprintlink.net (144.232.7.94)
already in the newsbox
or is that a different story?
Citizen Norske!
When the fascists are run out of town, the sheep won’t have to run nearly as fast.
P.S. I wonder if this is just the sort of thing that the Bush WH might have found to “influence” Democratic Senators and Congressmen in supporting various unConstitutional measures they have been pushing?
Seems to me more like router and DNS issues..mainly because of the miss directed IP look up for one of Betsy’s sites all though Router: sl-gw9-nyc-8-0.sprintlink.net (144.232.7.94) is still not responding..
Well, I’m no expert, but yes, I would say so. Cutting a fibre line means 100% packet loss until it’s spliced again. Don’t know how long it takes to do a fibre splice.
Might not be related — click on the name and it shows it’s been down for 24 hours at least.
Will be interesting to see if MSM reports any of the weirdness in the am…
On that note time to curl up with my sweetie… night Pups and see ya at the next late late night hopefully we won’t need our tin hats again…
nite nahant
DNS issues alone would not explain the packet loss, I don’t think. Could be 2 different things at the same time. Maybe a telco brought a new DNS server with a bad database on line b/c the regular one got cut off by a cable break? We’ll never know for sure.
g;nite nahant
Yep, I’m off too, The Sweetie’s home from work and snuggling is very very necessary.
Good night everybody, dream sweetly. Note any further net weirdness for posterity please…
nite Hmmm
you and nahant were a nice window into the DNS stuff tonight
g’nite hmmm
yeah!!! i could finally digg
Same story but my link is a lot more complete, Suzanne. And I noticed the Gramm link to UBS.
and over $100 million a year in revenues have been lost (even with the very low tax rates on the wealthy under Bush..in fact the numbers above show just how small those tax rates actually are if the est. only a $100m take on nearly $18 billion invested!).
The average size of these accounts is $100,000…apparently concealed as “withdrawals” for household expenditures and then was redeposited in schemes that avoided the reporting requirements established to prevent money laundering. Thus these banks and their wealthy clients violated laws established to prevent narcotics trafficking and terrorism.
The rich follow different rules than the rest of us, apparently.
very different
i’m off to sort through more of my clothes and do a wee bit of packing. g’nite all and thanks for hanging with me tonight.
ps – i am not doing the dishes tonight – just because
full moon exact at 12:59 AM pacific and 3:59 AM eastern…at 27* Capricorn
Interesting those sites that show connection rates and outages. Do they have archives that could be studied for other “peak periods” when interceptions may have occurred?
nite suz
splurge!
Per comment at Dkos:
This plus what Pickens has been saying plus the diary by Jerome a Paris gives me a different perspective on wind energy.
Hi Spidey. I was outside and didn’t see the moon. fog’s in.. kinda chilly, too. How’s by you?
