Ah, John McCain, steps on the rake once again. A couple days ago, July 15th, the news that the Members Only Jacket Wearing quasi-President of Iran, Ahmadinejad, would be attending the United Nations in September brought this derisive statement from McCain's campaign:
Perhaps he and Senator Obama can finally have that heart to heart.
It appears that McCain is going to have to get in line:
President Bush is sending a top US diplomat to meet Iran’s nuclear negotiator this weekend, a major break with his hardline stance towards Tehran and the closest contact between the countries since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
And now, today:
The US plans to establish a diplomatic presence in Tehran for the first time in 30 years as part of a remarkable turnaround in policy by President George Bush.
The Guardian has learned that an announcement will be made in the next month to establish a US interests section - a halfway house to setting up a full embassy. The move will see US diplomats stationed in the country.
Sounds like that Barack Obama, the "naive" guy who by suggesting just such moves months ago and ever since was called an "appeaser" right up there with Chamberlain, was right again.
One thing is certain. John McCain, Joe Lieberman and Norm Podhoretz are angry today "my friends", like old men trying to return soup at a deli.

That’s cuz that’s what they are.
But this gives him another great opportunity that he is not Bush III. He’s rally Herbert Hoover II.
Fire bad!!
OMG isn’t that a GREAT line? When I weary of our media and our govt I know that I can find solace AND great writing here.
Thank you again, one and all.
Bitter old men. They’ve gotten just about everything they ever wanted in life but they’re bitter. These were the guys Obama was really talking about when he made his bitter remark. What is it they didn’t get? Lessee:
Short Ride - an Israel that encompasses the entire Arab world
Podhoretz - an Israel that encompasses the entire Arab world
McSFB - an erection
About now, bet the McSame team thinks having W help is like losing three men and a dog.
“The US plans to establish a diplomatic presence in Tehran for the first time in 30 years as part of a remarkable turnaround in policy by President George Bush.”
I’d be very wary about this move.
Do. Not. Trust.
Cheney. Bush.Where’s the BIG announcement?
And….
I’m realy tired ot the endless McSame stuff. What’s up with Obambi? The Supers? Big Dawg?
And…
Sister Beeslebub?
Eh?
Barnacle/Shrub wouldn’t think twice about putting a cruise missile up their “top negotiator’s” ass in the middle of a diplomatic meeting. Then say the Iranians blew the place up.
Don’t you have a blog? Maybe that would be a good place to write about what you are interested in.
Man, this place is d-e-d this mornin’. Tap, tap, is this thing on?
No, but he’s got his very own waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance.
hello fahrdawglake …
ummmm.. you don’t reckon that “diplomatic mission” to iran might be a way to get some on-the-ground intelligence from inside iran do ya .. or maybe be a trojan horse ..a way to establsih contact with iranian dissidents ..
ah’ve learnt ya can’t judge the bushies motives on first blush .. there’s always a rattler under the covers somewhere..
Gotta have some to get some.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
mw kinsA THINKS u guys are missing what’s probably going on here;
this is a prelude to war boys and girls, it’s what they did in Iraq;
“well, we tried diplomacy as a last resort”
they will make rediculous condititons for peace, which Iran MUST turn down, and then they will say;
C? diplomacy does not work”
and then another “shock and awe
You’re not the only one payin’ attention.
Sorry. watering garden, feeding cats and fish, watching british open, watching Tour de France and designing a new website. And frankly I am so damn pissed at McSame, oshama, the dems in general, bush, his fellow crooks and war profiteers and all the other bullshit happening to america I am beyond words. Lots of lurking though.
Sounds like a lot more fun than politics or foreign policy. Gonna be slow at work today as well. Good chance to catch up on my reading.
Let’s not forget that last week Bush made an age joke. Is someone trying to hurt the McCain candidacy? Will Romney step in? He’s Cheney’s choice and I can see Cheney being capable of trying to sabotage McCain before the convention.
But, then my theory falls apart because I can’t see Cheney pushing diplomacy with Iran.
No doubt McBushie is studying Napolean’s campaign in the Middle East as a template for winning.
OT- Obama brought in $52,000,000 for June.
The military has been sending out all kinds of signals that it’s not behind a strike on Iran. They’re touting the decreased violence in Irak, the increased violence in Afghanistan and worries about troop strength, etc. Gates has been playing it down all along. Israel and Hizbollah are making some showy attempts at slowing things down. Nobody wants the ME to blow up in their face.
Perhaps he and Senator Obama can finally have that heart to heart.
Who was it that I heard yesterday - John Harwood? - saying something like “Ya gotta love John McCain - he has such a fantastic sense of humor.”
Now *that’s* a real investigative reporter - any guy who can spot humor coming from the mouth of a Republican.
Well if you were actually reading Jane’s tease announcement yesterday, you’d have noticed that the “big announcement” is scheduled for 4:30PM.
ya hit it on the nailhead
ITS …we stole ours….and everybody else can go get 3 jobs to ake ends meet
http://www.americablog.com/200.....other.html
Bush if nothing else, knows which way the wind is blowing. Perhaps the generals told him they would not bomb Iran. It’s too stupid even for generals. That’s the interesting thing about hierarchy. If no one obeys, it’s not worth much.
Well, shit, no wonder nobody but us poor folks is here. Netroots Nation. I totally missed that post. Bein’ at work has it’s disadvantages. A change at the Lake. Hmmm.
Nobody wants the ME to blow up in their face.

would give Darth many chuckles and a boner…imo
When I think of reasonable men I automatically exclude Barnacle, Kristol, the rest of that sorry ass crew.
Mornin’, dakine01. Is that 4:30 Pacific?
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Takin’ Karl with me to keep me company. No. Marx.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
New FoPo meme:
“They died in Afghanistan, but were killed in Iraq.”
Pass it on!
Best,
Cointreau Leviticus, Ph.D.
I dunno. But since the announcement is being made from the “FDL Caucus Room” at NN08 and that’s in Austin and on Central Daylight Time, then I’m making a SWAG that it’s at 5:30 PM Eastern, etc.
Southern Dragon
Here’s the link for Jane’s announcement yesterday:

As you will see, there were many predictions, but this from TexBetsy:
It’s been leaked!
Live premiere this Friday, July 18th 1pm ET / 10am PT Don’t miss this Friday’s premiere of Meet the Bloggers. Arianna Huffington will be our guest, and then we’ll be discussing whether Karl Rove should be sent to jail for failing to comply with the House Judiciary Committee’s subpoena with Marcy Wheeler, Baratunde Thurston, and Liliana Segura. Suggest some questions for Arianna below, or send in your articles, info, and your own perspective on Karl Rove’s refusal to testify as we prep for the show.

seemed to go somewhat unnoticed.
That doesn’t seem to fit into a “change of direction” definition.
While Permanent Vice President Cheney would prefer Romney over McCain as his next puppet, his top choice still remains Jeb Bush.
Maybe not.
I guess we’ll just have to wait.
Was just sharing with ya.
My feelings about the whole Middle East Foreign Policy is that when there is no real, authentic plan, when there is just Reaction and Cut and Paste Policy, it’s always going to be a Mess.
Thanks. I went over the post after seeing dakine01’s comment higher up. You’re right, we’ll just have to wait. I got patience down.
I hope FDL isn’t going to have more videos. They’re not captioned for the hearing impaired, and that leaves some of us out. The net is becoming so advanced (and yet, not advanced enough) that I’m missing stuff.
All of Greenwald’s fab videos and TPM’s videos…..lost on me.
It would be helpful to have closed captioning…there should be software out there that does that.
I’m working a temp job right now where I don’t have speakers hooked up, so during the day while I’m merely Lurking, I can’t access the videos audio either.
It’ll come, at some point, I bet. :)
David’s got a new post upstairs
oh geeze mah bad .. i mentioned “intelligence” and the bushies in the same sentence .. mah bad .. i ‘poligize .. profusely .. mea culpa ..
This (and Obama’s June fundraising numbers) really takes the wind out of McDrafts sails. If Obama were white, it could be a 45 state landslide.
Well, it looks like he didn’t miss my “I’m not donating because I’m in mourning over FISA” dollars. Guess I’ll have to keep sending them to BlueAmerica candidates.
