As the Republican/BushCo./media drumbeat for leasing drilling everywhere gets louder and louder, and gains traction with Americans frantic for gas price relief, I keep flashing back to October of 2002. America was still shaken by 9/11, and the White House cynically exploited that fear and uncertainty to stampede 110 Democratic Senators and Representatives into giving Dubya permission to destroy Iraq.
The Democrats didn’t want to look weak… but they did. They didn’t want to lose the midterm elections… but they did. They wanted to look like they were Doing Something… and they did. But it was the wrong Something.
And what happened in 2004? The Iraqupation was clearly a disaster, yet many Democrats, including the presidential nominee, couldn’t capitalize on it as a campaign issue because they had voted for it. The Democrats lost ground in Congress, and Kerry lost to a president America was sick of. They did the wrong thing in 2002, chasing a mirage of short-term political gain, and they paid for it in 2004. Epic Fail.
Flash-forward back to the present day, and the Republicans are using the same playbook: "OMG, gasoline is over $4 a gallon! We have to do something incredibly stupid RIGHT NOW that won’t fix the problem but will make insanely rich people even richer! Hurry hurry hurry! If you’re not with us you HATE AMERICA!"
I’m hoping that the Democrats aren’t falling for this garbage yet again, but if they are (Inconceivable!), I urge them to remember 2002 and 2004. If they cave on this, it won’t help them one bit in November, and it might even hurt. And in 2010, when gasoline is over $6 a gallon and ExxonMobil has so much cash that they’re using it as a fuel additive, the Democrats won’t be able to capitalize on it as a campaign issue because they voted for it.
Of course, the flip side is that if the Democrats do defeat this latest ill-conceived idiocy, they’ll need to either bring gas prices down or do a really effective job of explaining why the "Lease Here. Lease Now. Pay About The Same." plan wouldn’t work. Something like this, maybe. Or a nice simple chart comparing the 30-year miles-per-dollar projections of the Republican all-exploitation plan to the 30-year miles-per-dollar projections of a Democratic plan that emphasizes energy efficiency and alternative energy sources and Not Bombing Iran.
The Democrats can win this without suffering politically, but it is imperative that they get out the message that the Republican plan benefits only oil companies, not car-driving citizens. It should not be that hard to do, even with the usual media headwind. As always, the question is whether the Democrats want to make a stand, like they did on Social Security and Medicare, or whether they’ll just go along to get along like they did on Iraq and bankruptcy and habeas and torture and FISA.

Toobz!
oops, wrong post
Alas, I was too busy writing this to look at the Ted Stevens poetry contest…
We are not a truck
Our toobz are intertwining
Where my lolcats at?
caving – what dem’s do best (still debating on whether or not to use a snark tag on this)
Hi Eli.
Have a lolcat.
Hey Eli!
The contest continues thru Friday. Plenty of time for mischief.
Let the Digging commence!
Hi Betsy, hey eg.
They wouldn’t fall for this again…would they?
famous last words
Why would they change now?
dugg and thanks for opening it neuro
I think we need an oil platform and sandwich shop in the middle of Lake Tahoe.
Nationalize the oil companies!
Rollback gas prices to 1/20/01 and freeze them at that level.
Return to pre-Reagan tax rates.
Move the damn Overton window, Democrats! Start talking about real solutions — even ones that Dick Nixon would have implemented:
National health care.
Diplomacy with our enemies.
Price controls.
Think the dems could do the RIGHT thing? They’d get elected to boot if they can make an intelligent arguement…and not treat voters like we are complete dolts.
I’m sure half of that can be arranged.
I think we need an oil platform and sandwich shop in the middle of
Lake TahoeKennibunkport. That’s what pisses me off the most – that they do the wrong thing *even* when doing the right thing is better politics.
Great ideas.
Yeah, it’s not like they’d notice if you put one in Crawford.
Rs are running the same congame they’ve been running for years and years, and what have the Dems learned? That they are powerless to stand athwart the demands of the Daddy Party?
It’s the Enron scam all over again.
At least some Dems are still (rather quietly) suggesting that the oil companies explore and drill on the leases they already have before they are given new leases.
They need to be louder about it. Real loud.
OT- AZ-must have copied your email addy wrong for the Hopi cookbook.
Sigh… you are right. Great to see you, Eli!
Or at least have Harry Reid write a Sternly Worded Letter. That’ll work.
Great to see you too, Christine! Vacation’s nice, but it’s good to be back.
Folks keep framing this, specific instance drill in Alaska and offshore, as something the Dems are ’stupid’ to go along with….
Hey, I am NOT gonna argue that the Dems ain’t stupid when Barbara Boxer ignores every rule of framing and sez, ‘…… when the president of the United States makes it sound like this will solve the gas price problem, you’ve got to worry.’ they plenty stupid alright. But….
Most are not dumb like Dearest Barbara who supported her pal Joe the Liarman against Lamont; nope, most are on the fukin’ take. Corrupt with campaign cash from BIg Oil and to keep framing this argument as one that if we could just…
….explain things better to the poor dumb-ass Congresscritters they’d all pinch themselves and start voting like they had working brains is….
…well it’s not a clear statement of the reality we face.
harry seems to think that works although they have no impact when he receives one
Getting close but not quite done yet, only 203 pages so far.

We need to enlist Senate Democrats in a “Do It For Ted” campaign. Since the senior Senator from Massachusetts is sidelined, his colleagues need to stand the fuck up for the Democratic party, American values, and what’s right. There really is a lack of strong voices and clear calls, with Ted fighting brain cancer. His workmates aren’t doing their part to ensure Ted’s issues are addressed.
Capitulating to GOPs on GOP issues isn’t the Ted Kennedy way. Let’s make some noise. C’mon, Senate Dems! Do It For Ted!
the spelunkers’ party
gotta stress which ted teddy – otherwise, we could end up with ted stevens’ vision
Well, you’ll note that my argument here is more that they should resist this to keep their seats. I figure an appeal to enlightened self-interest rather than doing the right thing might resonate with them a little better…
Nice one, Doc! ;-)
Boxer is really the worst of our allies at framing issues. It’s as if she pays no attention to the thought leaders on our/her side of the debate. Every argument she makes, she uses their words, their frames, their windows. It’s as if the Inhofe-stupid has rubbed off.
She will have another tough race in 2010, and if it’s against Arnold I’m afraid all bets are off. California is turning into low-info voter heaven. And our Democratic Party is, unfortunately, pretty worthless.
Thanks for the review of wrong way historical patterns. What a sucker punch when Bush won (stole) the 2004 election. It shouldn’t have been close enough even to steal.
And the chicken little hysteria that adm./Repubs plays with MSM … the tag team on the public. Do something, do something! The generation of instant gratification on demand. The offensive against Dems… look at them… gridlocked. Gridlocked by whom?
9/11???? Go avenge us. And opportunist Bushco took their blank check and launched the horrors. Blank check from a so non-vigilant majority of citizenry.
I had dinner tonight with a friend I hadn’t seen in ages. She asked what I had been up to. The FISA campaign was included in my update. What is that, she asked. I dropped my jaw and my fork and then I updated her as best I could, but I watched the glaze spread across her eyes. The 4th amendment did not seem a priority in her life. She began to shrug. But I triggered something she had seen a while back on 60 minutes so she excitedly shared about that. I felt very weary and despairing.
‘Evening, Eli and all-
This is what so bloody infuriates me. If Obama had gone on TV and said, “There’s no way I’m going to vote for this police-state FISA legislation, and I urge all Americans to read it, and then stand with me as we fight to defend the Constitution against the Bush Administration and its allies!”
He would have gone up ten points overnight. People are dying for bold leadership, and we keep getting kept in the dark and fed bullshit.
Can we send Max Cleland door-to-door on Capitol Hill? Isn’t his actual out-of-office presence frightening enough to make them act in their own self-interest? Can’t they see that the GOP will do anything to anyone, e.g. Max, and that there’s no point trying to accommodate them?
Or are they still terrified of the terror?
Yep. I think Americans are dying for a Democratic candidate who is a *badass*.
Ummm…question: is there a bill b4 Congress? I’d be happy to call if you have something definite…What committee is holding hearings?
Right now it’s at the “I urge Congress to open up the continental shelf” stage. I don’t think there’s an actual bill yet, but I expect there will be one very soon.
Boxer’s got a pretty darn good voting record.
going into the news box next is this gem from the hill
Got it. 203 pages seems like a lot…can’t wait! I’m happy to buy it!
Good Evening Eli and Firedogs -
unfortunately, there were the tragically predictable signs a week ago
“Faced with mounting pressure from voters to respond to record gasoline prices, some senior Democratic lawmakers Tuesday opened the door to a compromise with Republicans that would open more land on and offshore to oil and gas exploration and production”
hey Ms Suzanne -
bwaahaahaa! the Hill page had a pop up ad for the new Northrup Grumman Tanker (the McSame 5A) – the one Robert Gates has stated he’ll re open for bidding
hey cbl2 – how ya doing?
Argh.
Not that I’m at all surprised.
They could start by telling Joey Short Ride that he’s no longer welcome at the Senate Democratic lunch table…or in the Senate Democratic cloakroom…
hey even if the dems cave, our cal govahnator, goper ahnold is firmly against drilling off the coast, so expect at least some fireworks…
No mention of alternative engery projects?
Wind?
Solar?
Echo? (Echo….echo…)
Well (no pun intended) there you have it – DRILL!
Idjits!
icanhaznoogummint?
hey skippy.. i sure hope so.. i wanna see the r’s having to pick sides within their own party
I could not agree more. Why is Obama letting his handlers influence his message? His own has got to be better.
And yes, I understand the part about wanting to move to the middle. But he’s way misunderstanding where the middle is. Or else I am…and I don’t have a team of ad visors.
If they want to draw attention to unexploited existing oil leases, they could introduce legislation nullifying them. Use em or lose em!
Not-so-very OT:
It looks like Carney beats Thomas in the GA-12 Dem primary (76/24 with 96% reporting).
fuck
Suzanne – pretty good hope you are fine as well
Eli – have been sitting on it for a week – what with FISA, et al, didn’t have the heart to link it right away – sigh- hope everyone reads the Big Orange link -
Sigh. This sort of thing always gives me the depressing feeling that voters are really just not paying any attention at all.

The dems better trust the American people on this. If not, they lose in November is my guess. It’s a matter of respect.
This drilling thing is the GOP showing they can bend Charlie Crist to their will. First he gets engaged. Then he gets onboard McCain’s drilling train. They are testing him to be sure he’s a team player, and they’ve gotten him to change teams quite readily.
With his white hair, he doesn’t make McCaint look as old as the others *cough Bobby Jindal cough* do. It’ll be Charlie — mark my words.
Now, wouldn’t it be teh awesome to see Harry Reid on C-SPAN, pounding his lectern, and yelling,
“No! The cure for cocaine addiction is not cheaper cocaine, and the cure for an oil addiction is not more and cheaper oil! NO MORE, Mr. President! Instead, we will springboard from this crisis into a new world of solar, and wind, and renewable energy, that will break our addiction, Mr. President, reduce CO2 emissions, save our money, and enhance our national security! You dinosaurs, Mr. President, can stay with your fossil fuels, and suffer the fate of all dinosaurs! We, Mr. President, are moving into a clean future!”
Yeah. Harry could say that.
And then make absolutely zero effort to get his members to vote against it.
His approach always seems to be, “Well, *I’m* voting against it, but the rest of you do what you like.”
naw – his fight left him a long time ago… he’ll roll over and thank the r’s
I can let him borrow a pair
unfortunately Ron, if you read the link – you’ll see it was Dick Durbin testing the wires – and he only does that when Harry asks him to X~(
And cut off any potential Big Oil contributions…? Are ya nuts…? ;-)
I have to have them back by Saturday nite, though.
be careful – everything harry touches loses its – ummm – spine
I try to think of it as “excessively idealistic”.
Some might legitimately call that “nuts”…
Cufflinks, y’all
What were you thinkin?
Oh

they dont work well when they are all floppy
g’nite dr b
‘night, Dr. Bong!
The Democratic Party, the party of jellyish!
I don’t have a floppy any more… It’s all on my hard drive.
harry had to have learned that ya gotta take a punch in order to win the fight back when he was a boxer. that was then and this is now. harry has no fight back left in him. he should be sitting in a rocking chair on his porch instead of in dc helping the r’s destroy this country.
Harry doesn’t do yelling. Harry does disappointed, wistful. plaintive whining.
And Senate Democrats must love it, or they’d have replaced him. And November victories for Democratic Senate candidates will accrue to Harry’s benefit — “he must be doing something right!”
I like the speech you wrote for him, though….
Apparently there are no jellyfish in Lake Tahoe?
Sorry to butt in, without saying Hi or anything or reading the comment so far, but I just want to say Aaron Brown is back. Rich now on PBS — in LA anyway.
Mozambique – Women’s health issues.
When he was a boxer, was he paid to take dives? That seems to be his style in the Senate.
harry the wuss
!
I miss Aaron Brown :~(
Bingo! “We love Harry! He never pressures us to take uncomfortable stands – we can do whatever we want! That’s exactly the kind of leadership we need!”

stoopid stoopid stoopid man, it amazes me how freakin’ stooooopid they are being, my god, what the hell???
i am beginning to think i could be a ’consultant’……and make better sense and give better advice.
(bonger–you toadstool, yes, before you have a chance to say it-i’m a pansy……but not……too many gin n tonics, so, different kinda pansy tonight, but i own my own personal set of steel balls that i earned, so i can loan them out, too, just like you, cactushead.)

i’ll let the radio shows know, even the farmers from here are calling now.

Thank you sir. I was gone for a month or so-you’re TSF, correct?
…and “Hi”
Really nitey-nite now
He looks great!
Good documentary-type show is good too.
Not a feel good piece, but, reality and education and human.
I am beginning to worry that I won’t even make it to the end of my own thread.
It’s weird – I just got back from a week in California, and my internal clock seems to be set an hour or two *earlier* than when I left…
Jeff Frankel makes the case that the best policy for US is not drill itself dry asap, but save the oil for when we might really really really need to develope it in 20 or 30 years.
http://content.ksg.harvard.edu…..-drilling/
Hello Eli and firepups from Sayre Oklahoma.
Say, don’t listen to the “drill, drill, drill meme being spouted everywhere, because it doesn’t align with the facts. Even Eli begins his post with this:
Just ain’t so people. I drove through downtown Elk City today, a town that was bursting at the seams in the oil boom of the late seventies. I pointed out “Duck pond park” and told my pilot car that back in the seventies it was full of tents. Today it was full of Ducks.
We have nowhere near as many drilling rigs now as we had then. We have plenty of leases where holes are not being punched, hell, millions of acres, far from any ocean or wildlife preserve where they can drill to their little hearts content.
Never heard a good explanation why they don’t.
OFG! Good to see you!!!
Nite, Dr. B.
OFG!
Too bad Harry wouldn’t know what to do with a genuine dmac certified set ‘o steel cajones. They dont work like this… gotta have more than two for that to work…
pansy
I believe I read somewhere recently that the oil companies can claim those undrilled leases as assets on their books, and it’s therefore very favorable to them to have a lot of leases even if they’re not actively drilling on them.
OFG, how is it that every time I think of you, “poof” you appear? Heh, heh, reading from the road?
It’s not so much steel cajones that you need as much as the ability to stay away from special interest money and voting to represent your constituents and not to repay promises for money from Corporate America.
I find it harder and harder to fight jet lag. Sleep in!
Great to see you, three. I was wondering where you were, Eli. You were missed.
I just jumped in and didn’t realize we were judging Harry.
It’s late, so perhaps all the chi’rren have gone to bed. If not, cover they little eyes.
Harry is like a stiff d!ck, he goes wherever he is shoved.
Late to the party and I have dugg fine Eli’s post!! The Dems better not cave on these issues or they will lose in November! Just when they have the dam rethugs on the ropes… And because DID cave on FISA and our fourth amendment:
WARNING: Due to Presidential Executive Orders, WITH CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL, the National Security Agency may have read this email without warning, warrant, or notice. They may do this without any judicial or legislative oversight. You have no recourse nor protection save to call for the impeachment of the current President, 69 members of the Senate and 293 members of the House of Representatives.
Yeah, oftimes it’s venality *masquerading* as cowardice.
That makes me feel sooo much better.
Thanks, peony!
Best cure for jet lag… lots of time in the sun to reset your internal clock!
Waving to RonD, Christine and Suzanne.
Beach time, in the sun, yes nahant?
Misspeaking about oil-Senator Bond was on the Matthews Drool Fest tonight with Barbara Boxer. I wasn’t really listening until I realized that Bond said there were no major oil spills after Katrina. WTFFFF?? I was at my computer giving him what for immediately. 9-count them-9 million gallons of oil spilled between Katrina and Rita. Then I wrote to Boxer to tell her never to let that statement go unchallenged. fuckery abounds.
Not much of an option for this desk-jockey. I will be taking lots of pictures at the Vintage Grand Prix this weekend, though.
This appears to be an Official Republican Talking Point to show how totally safe offshore drilling is.
I saw exactly one ad for her — it was very short and ineffective. I saw 20 ads for him; he’s running against Bush’s economy and for lowering the price of oil, which I believe means that he will be voting for more drilling. It was disheartening. But she just didn’t have enough money to get her message out.
absolutely best cure there is…stay until the sun goes down and your body will follow… but the worst jet lag IS going west to east… I have done it many times… you stay up late and get up early… body clock get all screwed up…
nahant–i posted your solar links for marion and others along with my own……..thanks
(jet lag, my best friends are in maui right now, the time change is not a friend, i coulda been there but had other obligations, i’m thinking now they weren’t that pressing.)
Vintage Gran Prix…?
What I don’t understand is the big push for ANWAR and off-shore drilling, when they haven’t yet made a “happy plate” with what they have that has far less enviro-concerns. Smells like a complete political blame-game aimed to deflect criticism of a failed policy and stain the Democrats as “obstructionists.”
It’s a two-fer.
That will help… but you do need to get natural light or full spectrum light… it has been used in the northwest for depression during the long rainy season..
Me too. I loved your description of the beach you love, and want your children to love as well. I know this is a bit off topic, but I loved, loved, that Sunday thread. Sorry Eli!
S.A.D.-seasonal affective disorder
Vit D helps a ton, too.
Definitely, lose-lose for the Dems…!
Yes Teddy. Naomi Klien on NPR Amy Goodman Democracy Now noon PST. Gave us dems our marching orders…tell Obama to move left. Renounce FISA, nor offshore. Don’t keep bases im Iraq. She said we need to push him to the left on these issues. Very strong statements. Get rid of the Chicago Boys (Milton Ftiedman economics) econ advisors who now has advising him. Obama is getting a lot of pressure from the right wing groups.
Again, OT, please forgive,
Are you the author of this marvelous list?
get your household in order. Get a garden. Make sure your neighbours love you. Diversify your money a bit (it won’t help much, but better than not doing it.) Work with your community to build up community networks. Get to know your local reps if you can, so that when push comes to shove you can show them the suffering they can help and so they trust you. Push behind real progressive candidates when you can, when you can’t, go for the person who seems to be genuinely compassionate — they’re the ones who will at least break and give relief.
I think it was you on the weekend. I was so impressed, I’ve sent it to some people and have told many more.
Groupie-like adoration!
Classic cars. I love photographing classic cars. Only problem is that they’re so well-polished that I have a hard time keeping my reflection out of the photos.
He isn’t the only one who lies.
I think they simply see it as an opportunity to engage on the issue, and possibly settle the question of drilling. Once that is done, they can drill at their convenience-or not.
We have been forced into a crest defense. Not the option of choice.
I have some one coming from SolarCity on the 25th… will let you know if I bite on this one…. it involves a 15 year lease and they do all the maintenance…. We shall see.
So, are these leases worthless assets, or are they just being banked? If they are valueless, do the investors know it? If not, I’m dead serious about threatening to confiscate them and turn them over to someone who would exploit them.
It would sure-baby shift the discussion away from enabling the holders to acquire new rights.
Anything but go after the profiteers or speculators.
Busted has an interview with her up at his blog. It’s about 35 minutes but really worth the watch. It should be a must see. Americans need to wake the hell up.
Okay, I see Eli may have gone nite nite, still it’s an excellent set of suggestions for how we are to survive this huge mess.
Not sure if this helps:
http://www.newamericanaurora.c…..e-oil.html
I am at a loss as to what might work so…
I have no quarrel with how you or anyone else expresses our, the voters, extreme displeasure with them at present.
Sick photo gallery. I love ‘em too. I am currently kicking a long-term classic musclecar habit.
Senators are far to polite for their own good. It’s sickening.
Why thank you they are memories that I cherish… We got to go to dinner with my daughter, son-inlaw and two of the grandchildren… was fun.. they were enthralled with the chef at Benihana’s… Gino(4) kept blinking at every sound the tools made… you had to be there…
My guess is that they want to get the leases while the getting is good. If Obama wins, and the Congress is democratic, they figure they’ll have a much more difficult time, especially with ANWR.
Also, as I understand it, the leases are still underpriced with lots of tax benefits. That’s something else the dems are bound to change if Obama wins.
Oh, I thought you were talking to someone else – I definitely cannot take credit.
You got that right… but it a funny name for it ya got to admit:>)
What?! Who is this Nancy Pfotenhauer? I want her email or address. What an asshole. “We withstood Hurricanes Rita and Katrina and didn’t spill a drop.” Who is the We this rotten witch is referring to? Did she live through Katrina? They simply lie. Day in. Day out. I am starting to foam at the mouth. grrrrr
Obama flip flopped on FISA and he paid by losing ground in the polls against McSame. Without credibility everything you say is smoke and mirrors. He’s not explained the waffle on FISA he sent out excuses.
Please sign Barbara Boxer’s petition against off-shore oil drilling.
Boxer says:
I believe Mitch McConnell said the exact same thing, too. It’s one of those Zombie Lies.

Dang Eli those red ones remind me of the 1968 Grand Prix in Germany in the rain… rooster tails every where!!
quick mary – think of camels and clown cars..
Voters like politicians with principles and convictions. Or who can at least make their bad decisions *look* like the result of principles and convictions.
Back in the early 00’s, after my stupid ex-husband left me, I bought a dark green stealth. Very cool car. Had one of the first War Is Not The Answer bumper stickers in LA on it. It was kind of a strange statement.
I don’t have that car anymore, but it had great exceleration. (whatever)
thanks
and welcome to the lake – i don’t recall seeing you here before – if ya have any questions, just hollar
I wrote to R. Senator Judd Gregg yesterday. He said the same thing.
Sorry, I’m being misremembering. Um, who does the economic posts here?
Yes. “The comity clause”, or some such nonsense…Yet they all want to win…and not one of them seem to realize that if they would articulate a clear vision, with passion, with fire, with the language of the people, they would win by landslides.
People are dying for bold leadership.
All of it was done by contract. I doubt there’s any way to break them. I think the issue is that Bush will not change what are very favorable terms, the democrats likely will if Obama wins. These lease arrangements were made during the Clinton Administration and used as a way to encourage companies to drill in areas that would not destroy the coastlines — I recall all this came up when the Governor of Louisiana wanted a piece of the drilling to rebuild. And it came out then that they are long term leases, with very favorable tax benefits and not enough money in them to help NOLA (of course).
Hey, for all I know, some of ‘em might be those same cars…
Ian, primarily.
I have made a decision. I have joined CCA and will join CTA soon. No more pussy jokes from me. meow. I am better than that.

You seem surprised. Here, take this paper bag and cup of decaf. Now, welcome to the lake. Nancy Pfotenhauer is McTwitchy’s spokesliar. It is her job, and at the bottom of the post you will see links to all the other liars in the Republican party who have said the same thing.
Eli is right. It is an official Republican talking point. Just not a true one, which means they are consistent.
Note “the press” pointing all of this out.
Thanks and DONE… Sent it to my friends and family!!
Any ex- of yours is stupid, by definition…my favorite was a standard ‘67 Camaro with a rally suspension…350 hp @ 6000 rpm, total weight 2900 lbs.
What a blast.
Oh, man, I feel silly. Of course.
Like all of us blondes looking alike. Intellectual fellows with three letter names. Still, my apologies.
It’s a cool list, tho, isn’t it?
It’s the new “strength through weakness” campaign.
”if ya have any questions, just hollar”
ummmmm from the land of beyond the ’holler’ it’s ’holler’
ok, bed. feathers. sleep.

Wait – which one of you has a 2900-lb. ex?
Absolutely. Wish I could take credit for it.
Oilfieldguy —– I lurked for you! And what happened to Oklahoma Kiddoe? I lurked for him, too.
When I moved to Cali I couldn’t understand a lot of what was said cause it was way too fast for me.
Spew…that must have been her… a real stupid, 2900-lb. ex.
Ayup:
Dude! I was looking for a camaro when I found the stealth.
Besides the speed, the puppy could really corner. Oh yeah.
(and, why thank you for the complement. he is a total, well, it doesn’t matter anymore. for the most part. :)
Really? I belong to CTA. What brings you to this decision?
Oklahoma Kiddoe was done wrong by the corporate higher ups.
Oh, you’d *love* New York.
I knew I read something about melatonin for jet lag.
Thank you Suzanne. Very kind of you.
Well, I am not sure. Perhaps the jokes were getting a little slimy.
I dragged this car out of a field and totally rebuilt it, modified what I wanted, restored the rest…just a sick car. I used to take it out on forgotten highways in north FL late at night, and drive at unforgivable speeds.A very special, timeless kind of fun.
Thanks, that’s interesting. Been decades since I’ve studied accounting, so I’ve no idea if I ‘get’ it. Superficially sounds like they might have a DISincentive to drill on those leases.
OKK and Jane had a disagreement one day. OKK wouldn’t budge, and I think Jane banned him. Lahoma, I think, always signed in under his name…
Don’t know for sure…
Well,
If slimy jokes are all you tell, come sit by me.
Ha! He was the Mister Cutie Pants 10 years younger than me actor.
He has, in fact, gained a lot of weight since then.
(Not smiling here, oh, no.)
just curious–did anyone watch obama on larry king? i saw him on lehrer newshour, sad, very sad./and sent a letter to his campaign on how he needs groomers like mccain has……..he said ’um’ and ’er’ and ’eh’ wayyyyyyy too many times. my dad taught me that a lie soon follows after someone says ’um’.

I have a word for this.
Spreadenfreude.
That’s Ian, I believe.
But, what were you listening to while you were speeding through the fantastic?
Shocked, I am. Never would have guessed you got a hot-rodder!
I’m not sure that she banned him. I think he decided he didn’t want to come back.
Sad to hear that, truly. But hey, you don’t fight with Jane, especially on her blog.
Dahling, what does this word mean?
1969 triumph tr6 convertible
Did you know about the bass and the Pink Floyd?
It’s a very specific form of schadenfreude, wherein you take joy in the weight gain of someone you dislike.
It sounds awfully naughty, doesn’t it.
and forgot–what i’ve been listenin’ to to match my gin buzz-anyone heard of del ray? when the levee breaks? led zepplin song…….she tears it up.

love to all.
I guess it *does* have kind of an alternate meaning, now that you mention it…
Could be. Seemed to me like Jane took charge. I’m thinking they should have a meeting of the minds. I’d love to see OKK and Lahoma back.
Here’s to (((lolo))).
I’m gettin’ a tingle..
Educate me!
I don’t get it????

That’s and so good!
If I understand what you’re saying, they are essentially only a tax benefit disguised as a business asset and effectively of dubious value. Given to the oil companies to shut them up about off-shore drilling.
If that’s right, then the dem argument that they should be using the leases doesn’t hold water. Is that it?
mine was navy blue
We talking Cars??? While in Germany I had a RED Porsche 1951… only get to 85 but boy did it corner… used to have fun passing the Beamers in the corners… of course they zipped by me on the straights… but I got them in the next corner… what fun..
When I came back to the world I had 1965 Austin Healey sprite. not the bug eye.. last year they made them….also lots of fun…
The owners of the blog set him straight one night and he has not been back sense. Too bad. I liken it to a gang rape by the uber cool. Could have been handled differently.
Always helps :)
Oooh, favorite cars.
Mine was a 1966 SPL 311 Datsun roadster 1600. It had two side-draft carburetors, Pirelli tires and ran like a scalded dog. Pearl-white, ragtop two-seater.
I called it the Mayflower, because all the Puritans came across in it.
OK, no tingles…:( He kind of creeps me out now.
music upstairs
That’s my cue to call it a ni- ZzzZZzz *snerk* zzzZZZzzzz…
Well, for driving late nights, I always liked heavy space-rock, Pink Floyd, Yes, and so forth, as well as all kind of heavy metal…but for ddriving all night for all the wrong reasons, there’s nothing like “Radar Love.”
Does anyone here remember the night I talked about the screenplay i wrote with a partner? Does anyone?
That’s a beauty.
on my way out saw the car wars–
’68 ford falcon- perfect first car in ’76 just had to feed it oil….
’69 firebird convertible. red. black top. beat that. blew a rod on the expressway–couldn’t see even after i rolled down the windows……sold it to a guy who did cartwheels when i practically gave it to him.
was a way cool car.
nite again and don’t bring up anything interesting that i can see as i’m singing off……….ha……..
eggplant calzone with hot sauce in it, depleting the buzz, now time to sleep it off.
Why do we keep talking of two-parties? There is the Fascist Party(Today’s GOP) and the wing of it that enables it-Pelosi and Reid are the leaders of that faction. Then there’s a pseudo party consisting of Bernie Sanders and a few Progressives that are the minority of the group calling itself the Democratic Party. There is one major party and a bunch of third parties, with no second party actually existing. By the way, that party of the GOP and GOP Lites is totally corrupt. That’s way Corporate America invests so heavily in the sole major one-party that fleeces the sheeple always!
Anyone catch Charlie Rose last night? He had on Amory Lovins to talk about how to get ourselves to energy independence. I learned a great deal about leases and the economics of oil production.
