Mr. 26% gave a totally pointless presser this morning to screw with the coverage of Obama's excellent speech and repeated the latest wingnut talking point on the Bush Recession: the serious economic and energy problems the country faces are just all in everyone's head. Quoth President Arbusto:
"I readily concede that it's [drilling] not going to produce a barrel of oil tomorrow, but it's going to change the psychology."
And don't you know it -- McSame said exactly the same thing a couple weeks ago.
Even though it may take some years, the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial.
See, all we have to do is start building a bunch of oil rigs off the coast of Miami Beach and BOOM! Those mean Saudis -- the ones that just told Bush to go to hell when he went begging for more oil -- will suddenly, through the magic power of psychology, open up the spigots.
And for the Bush Recession? McSame simple solution!
I think psychologically — and a lot of our problems today, as you know, are psychological — the confidence, trust, the uncertainty about our economic future, ability to keep our own home.
So get a grip, America. Stop whining.
A little positive thinking will Unleash The Power Within(TM).

Can somebody lend me a couple thousand psychic dollars to pay my non-psychic mortgage??
Don’t worry - be happy. Oh, and shop.
Pretty much.
G. W. Bush:
Tokenism: the policy or practice of making only a symbolic effort.
Psychologically speaking, if they changed the indicators for the stock market readout on my iPhone so that when the stocks go down, they’re green, and when they go up they’re red, I’d feel better, along with a few others…
ET
Hell, I’d settle for just a few hundred to pay my non-psychic vet bill.
“I readily concede that it’s [drilling] not going to produce a barrel oil tomorrow, but it’s going to change the psychology.”
Yeah, and when you’re in jail, I imagine the change will also be merely psychological.
Starvation is a mental illness.
Bush has had his way with the economy for the last 7 1/2 years. That it is in the toilet can mean only one thing: it’s the Democrats’ fault.
And he said that this morning.
Everything is actually going well- it’s just that Wallstreet doesn’t know it- so the stock market goes down. Consumers don’t know it so they ain’t buyin shit and the economy goes ta hell- and employers don’t know it so they fire people…See- it’s all psychological.
Reminds me of some of the first television I ever remember seeing during the Ike years- showing a guy with a hot dog stand who hears that the economy isn’t doing well- so he quits buying hot dogs- so he stops selling hot dogs, so his business goes ta hell..
“Keep a stiff upper lip”
Dugg your post, BT. And not in a psychic way, either.
Just what I needed this morning, a Psycho Sociopath trying to blow smoke up my ass.
Change the psychology indeed.Change starts at home, dude.
I really enjoyed his opener trying to blame Democrats for his fucked up policies that are coming home to roost.
It takes some intestinal fortitude to get up in front of the country and say you don’t know the price of gas when it’s really hurting consumers. Bush takes every opportunity possible to tell the country to go cheney itself.
The fundies will be all impressed with Bush using big words like “psychology.” He needs some mental help himself.
Actually, fundies think psychology is the work of the devil. Points off for him there.
Good shot BT.
Yo. Hey boosh! Bah Humbug! A little weaselly creep in a grownup’s body.
U proud yet, Bar? If he were my spawn, i’d be hiding at the bottom of the well. Oh, wait…
Thankyouverymuch.
They’ve lost their direction because the chief snake handler got hissef arrested in GA the other day.

It ain’t working Stupie.
Don’t you see. The “little people” have angered the child. He’s acting out.
He. Doesn’t. Care.
He can’t see beyond his own pointy little nose.
Our great leader. A spoiled, unruly child. Tell me a difference. At least the child has some hope of learning and growing. This’n? Trash.
“It’s all in his head” said doctor Clusterfuck as he wheeled the patient in for emergency abdominal surgery. In the back ground, Dr. Bernanke could be heard to say “Fucker’s DEAD”.
I’ll bet his daddy’s reeeal proud.
“All in his head” echoed Dr. McBush fresh from upbraiding his advisor for saying that “It’s all in yer head”.
28% Approve of the job bush is doing.
Stop whining - the DJIA has gone up 25 points since we started this thread. Oh wait, my iPhone is upside-down…
Meanwhile the country and the world fester and fail.
Even a miserable creep would notice.
He’s a monster in a suit & tie.
“What this patient needs is CHANGE” said Dr. Obama as he put the finishing touches on yet another marathon speech.
“Dr. Bush can kill the patient anytime he wants to” said Dr. Cheney, reading from the Unitary Executive Medical Guide.
Bush has a plan for the economy, but it’s not quite ready. He’s having trouble finding the stash of WIN buttons left somewhere in the White House by Gerald Ford. Once he finds them, McCain will be the first one wearing one.
“Told ya so” said Dr. Hillary as she went off to make funeral arrangements.
I REALLY wish Gramm would stop moaning and groaning
Phil Gramm May Be Gone, But His Porn Lives On
I’m sick of listening to his whining as well.
I bet his daddy’s sittin’ in an Adirondack chair in Kennebuckport gittin’ sloshed. When did he ever care about the kid? I missed that part in the endless drivel written ’bout the lil’ urchin.
A good day to ya, Dragon. Sunny here, and the dragonflies helped me mow the lawn. Widow Skimmer, Black Saddlebags, Common Whitetail. Gotta love it. The deer flies never bother me when I got my phalanx of protection around me, heh. Ain’t nature wunnerful, when pesky lil’ brats leave it alone to heal?!
This time, I’m worried we just don’t have time…
It’s all sounds funny, but I think McSame’s rhetoric is having an echo effect. Someone I know *cough*, who happens to be a very smart person, and works *cough* in the financial industry, told me in an “authoritative” manner that the problems with oil prices was partly due to “the environmentalists” and the ban on drilling in Alaska, etc. I answered that he/she was speaking “right-wing clap trap”. Hence fierce argument. My concern is that this stuff goes around in the offices of (fill in the blank of some major firms) and that being in finance gives an aura of authority, and has even more echo effect.
BTW. If anyone knows of a short concise good analysis of what’s going on in the oil industry, suggestions are much appreciated. Remember some people only read things with bullets. This is one issue where I think flyers countering right-wing BS should be passed around here and there and everywhere.
Give him a WIN button and he’ll feel better fast.
I wish Bar would quit leaving the dirty diapers in the corner. They. STINK. your highness, beggin’ yer pardon ma’am.
Hey Newton…. trying again with the music… reply to me and let me know if it is getting to ya…
Brings to mind the easy button. Perhaps that’s how McInsane plans to “win” the war.
OT: Did anyone see ABC World News last night? They gave ABCNews/Wapo poll results showing McCain is thought to be qualified to be C-in-C much more than Obama. I couldn’t believe it. I haven’t googled it yet, but it just seemed so wrong.
BTW: A couple of new petitions to sign:
1. Tell congress to hold Rove in “Inherent Contempt” and force him to testify:
http://www.kintera.org/c.omLWK.....id=3821594
2. LOL! Tell Joe Lieberman to quit hanging out with religious extremists and refuse to give the key-note at Hagee’s summit:

yes! that’s what i want! a psychological impact on my credit card bill! Thank you Mr Prez!
there is not enough “bling” in the world to make that fella look like he’s worth the price of… of… [fill in the blank]
Do you suppose this list will ever be made public?
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/.....038;page=1
I am not going to stop HoJoe from destroying himself. I prefer RGreenwald’s petition.
Go Joe, Joe must go.
You seem to have touched a nerve with deadly aim, BT.
apologies, honest, *g*
now that’s a dandy. Print ‘um up and they’d fly off the shelves. hee hee.
prolly poor immigrants who thot they were signing a “get out of jail” card.
Wha who now?
oh sigh… i didn’t used to hate so much…
Dear Mr. Boosh, … You are… destroying the world as we knew it.
This is not a whine. Repeat. This is not a whine.
It is a reality check. Yours.
Are you for real?
Because, if that is true…
[static]
me? i’ve totally lost what was left of my mind. *giggle*
yes. because if dear leader says it’s so, why then - it must be so.
cool. thanks
you’d be surprised.
how DARE you. It’s utterly impossible to surprise me at this point.
-um-
what did you have in mind?
Just got another of those anonymously written gooper e-mails- this one about all the taxes Obama “has said he will raise”. It’s all total bullshit of course- but it’s gone twice around the world by now…Wonder who is behind these things and whether or not they are effective.
/s
curious here. did you deliberately get yerself on a list?
No- these are all forwarded by friends and acquaintences. I have never gotten one that wasn’t forwarded by someone I know- (or- as in this case, someone my wife knows). This one was sent by a university professor.
Yeah, I saw that, and would have gagged if my expectations for ABC News weren’t so low. BTW, on the weekend ABC News ran a hit piece on how Senator Schumer caused the latest Banking Crisis. I kid you not, ABC even had some “expert” to confirm it. I’m tellin ya.
oops. you guy’s’ll be relieved. i gotta give up the toobz for awhile.
won’t be back for awhile. carry on dear doggies!
Well I wouldn’t do it in a church parking lot like Lieberman’s creatures did.
omg. do THEY believe them?? or are they just scouting the opposition.
condolences if appropriate. same with kudos. ;->
People are unbelievably credulous. Ask Lieberman.
heh
Let me pursue the ‘psychology’ argument a bit further, and since Godwin’s law is about as busted as the Fourth Amendment, I will extend my comments to a certain historical figure. First: the neocon/reactionary world-view holds that we lost the Vietnam War because of weakness of will, and only won the Cold War because uncle Ronnie was strong, like John Wayne. We didn’t lose the Vietnam war in the field, we lost because the press showed bad pictures of people dying, and filmed burials of American dead, and actually questioned the war out loud on prime time. If none of this had been allowed to happen, the Vietnamese would be capitalist today. (Oh, wait, they are. Nevermind!) They have applied these lessons to our current conflicts, with a vengeance and with remarkable success, though it must be said that they’ve been helped by the way the media has evolved into a corporate mouthpiece.
To get to the meat: for people like Bush, Cheney and their fellow-travelers, everything is a matter of will. This makes it a matter of consumer psychology. Keep the consumers — i.e. the American public — thinking good thoughts, and they will stay the course until things turn out all right. Another way of seeing this is that they are running a huge Ponzi scheme, which operates on exactly the same principle.
Now to historical precedsent. Hitler was a firm believer that the key to Germany’s eventual success in the Big One was the public’s will to stay the course. That is why he refused to let his general’s retreat, when retreat would have bought them time to regroup and establish more secure defence lines. There was no military logic in holding undefendable positions. The logic was purely psychological.
As we have seen, the people who run our country live in a world of their dreams and our nightmares.
i’d rather ash Schumer and Rahm - even “smart” people can do incredibly stoopid things [aaarrrrrgggggghhhh]
O/T
Didn’t post this info over July Fourth but since we are talking that gas prices and the economy are “all in our heads” how’s this story…
Last year Exxon was the sponsor of the Columbus, Ohio Red White and Boom, July 4th finale fireworks. The local radio station announced Exxon as the sponsor and then began the finale simulcast music of the sound track from Stars Wars Revenge Of the Sith from the Death To The Republic scene in the movie. The music for that scene is O Fortuna directed by John Williams.
This July 4th, 2008, same event, same music; however, the sponsor: Marathon Oil (yes another petro based company).
Once again, my 15 year old walked away in disgust and shared the lyrics to O Furtuna when we got home.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Fortuna
In Roman mythology, Fortuna (equivalent to the Greek goddess Tyche) goddess of fortune, was the personification of luck, hopefully of good luck, but she could be represented veiled and blind, as modern depictions of Justice are seen, and came to represent the capriciousness of life. She is also a goddess of fate.
If a fifteen year old gets that “it” is NOT in our heads, a figment, or a psychological problem, Mr. Pres, we all do.
yeah. and so… we…. do what to combat it?
Good rendition of a heeeuuuuuge part of the problems we face, btw.
Oh they believe em..I read something recently about a woman who tried to track down the source of some of the Obama e-mails. She drew the conclusion that their production was not organized but the result of several goopers writing similar things and just passin em on. I have my doubts. I suspect that it’s more centrally planned than that- and they seem to be impossible to trace back to a source- they are never signed and they have no LINKS of course. (actually this last one links to a CNN story that has NONE of the information in it.)
It’s at least very interesting.
At a certain point- Hitler’s personal fate was sealed. At that point- his interest and the interest of the german people diverged 180 degrees. He knew that once german army surrendered, he was a dead man.
That’s pretty rich!
I can’t imagine Exxon sponsoring fireworks in Alaska. Too many people here would rather burn Exxon executives at the stake…
It proves your 15 year old is more intelligent than joe sixpack, and ma and pa kettle.
you have a stronger stomach than I, at the moment, but then you’re younger.
I’ve pretty much hit the wall. No patience. Previously close-to-burnout.
Good on you to read the things. They’re probably valuable for deciphering and countering techniques used by the pugs.
Thank you!
that sounds close to where we are right now with junior & bigthyme.
scares me witless, and i’m not the nervous type.
they know they’re cooked. they don’t care. no telling what they’ll do, but chances are they’ll strike back, quite possibly without even bothering to aim.
omg i hope i’m wrong about the above.
You know when the pathetic conservative wannabe Mark Halperin was Political Direcor of ABC News, he boasted of training a whole generation of reporters (just like him). This explains a lot of their conservative spin. It doesn’t explain Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. They came the old fashioned way. They were bought and paid for.
I had a hard time with fireworks this year, period. So close to giving Chimpy a blank check on surveillance and telcom amnesty. So many casualties from the war. I don’t feel this country belongs to me or the people sitting next to me any more. It’s slipped away and we’re putting hand over heart to a phantom flag. But the toddlers liked the boom, boom, and the pyrotechnics, so . . . I had to go.
Perhaps, but he has a good 40 plus friends just as bright and he shared his observations with them and his observations have gone viral locally. If these 15 year-olds are our future, they’ve got it clear — it’s NOT in our heads and they are pretty smart at educating their parents on their smart, insightful youth views as well.
Well he knew (plus with extra paranoid) that many in the Wehrmacht wanted to assassinate him, make a separate peace with the Anglo Americans, etc.
I agree these kids are the future. I know some get it, I have an 18 year old who understands perfectly. The problem is far too many don’t get it. Far too many of those eligible do not register and vote because they don’t think it matters. I have spent years registering people, I’m still amazed at the number of people who say they don’t want to register and they don’t want to vote because it makes no difference.
They say the truth shall make you free. But maybe not always. Read Ibsen’s ‘The Wild Duck’ for a counterexample. It’s going to take more than truth to set us free this time.
we frequently see a young amputee when we take things to the local recycle center. he apparently works for a local contractor, hauling loads of heavy rotten wood, metal gutters, you name it, and heaving them into the bins from his truck - hopping around at times, since his prosthesis extending from above the knee on one leg just won’t bend right for all of the little and big things he’s got to do.
he always acts cheerful when we see him…
breaks my heart…
Agreed. Oh sigh. I’m so tired of cleaning up after these people…
Yes and the visibly disabled are discriminated against, regardless of what “war hero” status has been allocated.
But, but freedom is on the march….
A whole new generation of Body-Snatchers? Gulp. Orwell rules. BTW, what is Mark Halperin doing now?
Hey, even CEOs are whining about the economy…
That’s why the LOL! at the beginning. I posted it for our amusement. *G* Thanks for the link.
He now works for Time magazine as a political analyst with some kind of made up title.
Good take on the importance of keeping one’s cool in trying times:

New CHS
Oh Lordy. It’s true I guess. I wouldn’t watch ABC at all except it’s the only channel I get. (I also live in a cell/radio dead zone.) Thanks for the verification.
No news or ABC News? Hmmm. Thank Gawd for the Tubes!
Thanks. It figures, but I guess Time Mag is a whole nother story. . .
Thanks Audrey. I signed both.
Except when there are storms. We’re having one now and it’s just in time for the news. Oh well….
You’re welcome Carolyn. :)
