Remember how the wingnuts excoriated Kerry for his claim that he was in Cambodia in 1968? I do.
Personally, I remain more interested in what Kerry would do regarding the current war, but since he invites us to judge him on his Vietnam record, evidence that he might not be telling the truth about that record is obviously relevant.
Such a sweeping — indeed, almost pathological– lie would undermine Kerry’s credibility on all other aspects of his memories and recountings of his Vietnam experience.
Why should we believe what Kerry says about the future when he can’t be trusted to represent the past accurately?
So how does wingnuttia feel about McSame’s whopper about what he told his Vietnamese captors?
Asked what first comes to his mind when he thinks of Pittsburgh, McCain chuckled, "the Steelers. I was a mediocre high school athlete but I loved and adored the sports but the Steelers really made a huge impression on me particularly in my early years."
And then McCain told a rather moving story about his time as a P.O.W. "When I was first interrogated and really had to give some information because of the pressures, physical pressures on me, I named the starting lineup, defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers as my squadron mates."
"Did you really?" asked the reporter.
"Yes," McCain said.
"In your POW camp?" asked the reporter.
"Yes," McCain said.
"Could you do it today?" asked the reporter.
"No, unfortunately," McCain said.
Here’s one reason he likely couldn’t do it today — the Steelers aren’t the team whose defensive line McCain named for his Vietnamese tormentors. The Green Bay Packers are.
Since McSame invites us to judge him on his Vietnam record, evidence that he might not be telling the truth about that record is obviously relevant. In fact, such a sweeping, pathological lie calls into question all of McSame’s claims about his Vietnam experience. Why should we believe what McSame says about the future when he can’t represent the past accurately?

OT.. but wanted people to know about the following article on CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITI…..index.html
..about how online bloggers (us?) have triggered an Obama backlash on the FISA vote! :)
Actually, the CNN article has a major misstatement. The unauthorized wiretaps, etc., began before 9/11, not after.
Perhaps McCain’s memory is also foggy about the broadcasts he made for the North Vietnamese.
That’s the Fourth Estates duty to cover for the Fascists owners.
O/T–Dennis Kucinich has an on-line petition re: impeachment at
http://www.kucinich.us
Oh, please. This is a really weak attack. For all we know, McCain made up names from a number of football teams, not just the Packers as reported in the book, and since he was in PA he mentioned the Steelers in a bit of a pander (and pandering, unfortunately, is virtually universal among politicians of both parties, which is why we’re starving the word to make corn-based ethanol). For our side to attack him on this will just make us look bad.
Given the softballs he’s given us lately, like that social security is a disgrace, and Gramm saying we’re a nation of whiners, it would be exceptionally stupid for us to get into a debate about which fake names he gave when he was being tortured.
It’s happened the European Papers are making fun of us! Actual headline: The US Goes Nucular Yet another legacy of George W. Bush. Thank you very much, you cretinous slug!
Seems quite minor to me considering the daily cavalcade of lies and contradictions that the McSame camp excretes.
In fact, since this is coming from Jake “Democrat Party” Tapper, I wonder if this is a set-up, where they want those America-hating Liberals to pounce on the “war hero” over a trivial matter?
Digg this
Well, there’s his spin about his divorce from his first wife:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..182/543915
Is this a trick question?
Answer: He hasn’t the foggiest idea, because he can’t remember the questions, much less the answers.
wow – Blue Texan’s link is to ABC News, and just yesterday LA Times referred to his “adultery” problem – is the BBQ finally over ?!?!?
wonder if this is just coincidental to him freezing out the beltway riblickers in favor of rightwing bloggers at his press events ???
A little corporate kickback to Obama for his FISA Amendment vote?
He’s McShame. He’s lying about EVERYTHING.
The man terrifies me. I don’t think he is competent to drive a car, much less the country. He acts as if he’s truly senile or early alz. imo
Add the quick-&-nasty temper, and you have a recipe for disaster. No snark.
No spin. It’s perfectly acceptable to have adjustable explainations when you are a Republic.
Dugg EG how are you doing today now that the weather has cooled down ???
Non-issue as far as I’m concerned. If this is all Tapper at ABC can write about he needs to find another job.
Don’t worry. The Dems already traded accountability for a chance at the wheel.
This morning oil jumped up to 147 because of an article in the Jerusalem Post saying that the Israelis airforce was practicing in Iraq to attack Iran. The Pentagon denied it, and oil fell a couple of bucks. Now, there are some comments from Iraq. I am not convinced that the story is untrue…JMHO

aw snookums. ya got so fancy, ya missed the zed.
mebbe so – but LAT bringing the issue of his affair/divorce to the forefront kinda wipes that possibility out
Does McCain make Cheney seem statesman-like?
lol
Prototype for a senile Barnacle.
LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALA *hands over ears*
i hope u git elected to sumpin’ some day & git yer comeuppance.
that’s be teh only sure cure for whut ails ya.
ya mean they’re different guys? g’wan! caint’s a sockpuppet & u know it.
Oil had dropped over $10/bbl at the beginning of the week due to lower demand. U.S. Consumption is down 2.2% YoY. Bush had to do something to keep it at high levels. He came on the TEEVEE today to “Jawbone” the Democrats in the Senate to open up more drilling. He is extorting us to give a gift to his Oil Buddies. If he was truly concerned about supply, he would be releasing Oil from the Reserve. Instead of trying to get drilling rights that will not produce Oil for another 7 to 10 years. I cannot stand to look at the crook any longer. His is the most disgraceful man in the history of our country.
*shrug* good luck with that curse.
an affront to self-respecting barnacles everywhere.
Hey, remember those guys that got released the other day from Colombia…here’s something interesting from 2003 about them:
“On tape, Stansell tries to explain contract business to his captors: “The government of the U.S. awards contracts to big companies. And they send people down here to work and that’s what we did. California Microwave Systems is a small company that is controlled by Northrop Grumman, which is a very big company. And we are employees.”
What the three men didn’t know was that ten days after their plane went down, California Microwave handed over the mission, their contract, to a newly formed company named Ciao.
The three learned this from a press release Botero brought them, which Stansell read to his friends: “Three years ago, the Pentagon awarded a contract to conduct surveillance in Colombia to California Microwave, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman. Shortly after plane went down, California Microwave transferred the contract, along with the planes and pilots, to a new company called C-I-A-O … chow.”
When their captors overheard the hostages talking about the new company, the FARC made it clear that the new name sounded suspiciously like the CIA.”

Well, I’ve been thinking about something else also. Lush Limpdick, Pox Newz, and the like went hard for Mittmo Romnutz and early. This means word went that Mittens was the chosen one. Unfortunately for the Conglomerate owners and friends, the Repube base picked McSame.
So, Mittmo has been hanging around in the wings ready for an opportunity to step back in. VP would be a start, but McSame is imploding so badly, that I wonder if they’re figuring out some other way to get McSame outta there, and have Mittens take his place. Maybe a turn in BigMedia coverage would signal this? BigMedia was equally forgiving to Mittens as they are to CrazyTrain.
Oh, let’s please have a discussion about giving false information under torture. Then let’s talk about why McSame thinks it’s ok to use torture after suffering through it himself.
okay, start small and work up to it.
try school board, with allademdam creationists running amok, unions to deal with, parents of all stripes, no funds in the budget…
ready, set, go!
As I have said in the past, McCain’s Vietnam War experiences give him expertise only in the area of being a POW. I do not think we need to get into his veracity re starting lineups. What is more important is that McCain who was tortured would not support legislation outlawing waterboarding and other extreme interrogation techniques. Important too is that he seems to be refighting that war in his blind support for endless war in Iraq and beginning a new war with Iran.
From CNN.com:
The accompanying graph is even worse. An 80% drop in value over the last year.
Well said.
i’ll get right on that
yep. i tell ya. there’s something a-kilter in that head-bone.
not totally implausible – although after being knee deep in all things McSame for the last 6 months, they will have to pry it loose from his cold dead hands.
of interesting note: much of the anti-McSame goodness has come from Moonie Times – which is Gingrich’s conduit of choice :) and if there’s an ego out there colossal enough to think it can disrupt McSame’s quest, surely it belongs to the disgraced, adulterous former Speaker :D
I agree. To me, the most alarming thing he has said was about wanting Iranians to die by smoking. The fact that he wants innocent people to die, because they are Iranian….is quite simply horrifying. This man is emotionally stuck in revenge mode toward anyone with a different skin color than his own…they are all g**ks to him.
Oil spiked today because investors were running for cover over the potential multi-trillion dollar meltdown of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
That’s not what they were saying was happening at the time on CNBC…I was watching it…when the Pentagon denial came out, it dropped back to 144.
Oh, and I agree about the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack part too. What a frikkin’ mess.
That comment was truely shocking and says a lot about his character.
agreed.
Oil spiked ’cause Ian wrote and article last night on firedoglake that described the implications of war on Iran relative the the Strait of Hormuz.
Moving markets over here, we are.

It’s a disaster created by the MBA Preznit and his Party. Will they be held responsible?
Sorta puts a taint on an MBA from Harvard, doesn’t it?
Or Yale, whichever school he was supposed to be attending.
Hugh, LS, and others -
am now reading Paulson released some gibberish – upshot – no bailout for Fannie/Freddie –
now what ?
It really does! They should recall it.
Don’t have cable but when I have listened to CNBC I have found them to be seriously disconnected from reality to the point of being scary.
New McSame slogan:
McCain
Despite whatever he says,
You know what he meant !
(Did we mention he was a POW?)
Thanks. I went over and posted a comment.
But of course, since they have to “review all comments for appropriateness, and because of the volume of comments [currently standing at “none”] we have to limit the number we post,” I doubt it will see the light of day.
It’s a reprise of how he dealt, or more accurately did not deal, with the subprime crisis when it first broke. To say he is all hat and no cattle would be charitable. The truth is that he is just another anti-regulatory nutcase of which this Adminstration has an inexhaustible supply.
recall Cramer telling everyone to buy Bear Stearns . . . 3 days before they were bailed out
You mean the station where Maria Barta-something once said “Citi’s at $35/shr. Come on, when are you ever gonna be able to get CITI at $35?”
It is now $16.
They’ll bail ‘em out. Have to.
Mortgage market is HUGE (bigger than US Treasury market), $12 Billion, and fannie and freddie have 60% of it.
I think they’re going to put Mittens in as VP, and then McSame will have a “health crisis” that will cause him to withdraw from the race. Voilá, Mittens as nominee.
The Marxist in me can’t help but smile when I think of all these folks sweating bullets over the value of their portfolios.
he even managed to squeeze that in in his LULAC remarks the other day -
brought up Everett Alvarez – the longest held POW (8yrs 6 mos) and how they couldn’t leave their hispanic brother behind -oy
Corrections
Maybe Gingrich is pissed at being replaced as Chief Republican Adulterer.
That is what I think too….or Carly.
and don’t forget he holds Dobson and all those ‘righteous’ boots on the ground – catty bitch
No, but it goes to the fact that he’s too feeble to be president. Notice I don’t say too old, I know 72 year old who could handle the job, but not this guy. I can’t imagine how feeble he’ll be in three or four years.
If only Carly could do for the War Department what she did for HP.
ooh boy – correction to my 69 -
and don’t forget he holds Dobson and all those ‘righteous’ boots on the ground in his back pocket still a catty bitch
It’s a very big game. One of the investment bank groups stands to take over half of all the US mortgage market under the guise of saving poor Fannie and Freddie. Nice transfer of assets there.
Been thinking the same thing…
You can almost see it in McSame’s face recently, as if he’s realizing he don’t got it no more, and maybe never did.
Mittens still scares me. He’s slick.
I don’ think there is anything to be gained by calling attention to McCain’s war record and the fact that he was tortured by the North Vietnamese.
y’all are scaring me
It’s the only hand the Rethugs can play. Everything they touch turns to shit.
I was telling rwcole yesterday that I thought he was much like Fred Thompson only grumpier.
If Obama does the right thing and picks John Edwards as VP, it won’t matter what the Repubes do.
Obama/Edwards ‘08!
Dodd wouldn’t be a bad choice, either.
I’m still scratching my head as to how the hell McCain became the Puke nominee in the first place…must have been hanky panky somewhere in those primaries.
saw reports online last night they had asked Dodd for vetting materials –
and immediately thought of it as a cynical kiss and make up move to us lefties
OTOH Obama’s stampede to the right might culminate in him selecting Clinton to make up for the support he lost from the left. After the last few weeks, I don’t know which way he will go on anything anymore.
Don’t know if Kerry was lying about himself being in Cambodia, but, in 1968, the US was, indeed, interdicting sites in Cambodia.
i wouldn’t be surprised
I thought that about vetting Dodd.
nah. i was gullible.
I do.
The toilet.
The perfect place for a conman and liar of his caliber.
And I really, really do not think that at this stage either The Hill or Edwards would take the Veep.
Why would they want to get on board a sinking ship?
David Schuster opened his MSNBC broadcast just now with the tease of Kucinich live on the house floor coming up soon. woo hoo Kucinich!
Recent polls have shown an Obama/Edwards ticket absolutely dominating the General Election, much more than any other person as VP, including Clinton.
Imagine this guy (especially the second half) and Obama crisscrossing the country together…unbeatable:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbhVFAAVJ98
Whatever the case, Better and Better Democrats through Blue America is where we can really make a difference.
Kucinich live on the phone with Shuster – but not from the floor of House – sorry – my bad apparently. ;~(
I’m just holding McSame to the same standard as our friends on the right held Kerry.
OT: (sorta)
I really like this post by Joseph Romm over a HuffPo concerning the McCain/Bush/GOP ploy to open up more drilling. This needs to get more play in the MSM.
Link: McCain’s Cruel Off Shore drilling hoax.

Here is another McPain lie that needs to be brought to light for all the Fundies to swallow… The truth always rears it’s head just when ya don’t expect it….
A friend emailed that to me this morning.
I got a kick out of Nancy’s ringing endorsement. /s
