I’m pretty sure they’ll get their act together a helluva lot better than our Congress will. They’re a lot better at cutting deals between them, liek actual DEALS compared to caving in and showing bellies. Whatever bickering now, i’m hoping is just marking time.
Ian’s post was lively and scarey. A little levity would be divine. Demi, did you get that bubble soak?
fingers and toes crossed, Suz!
Wahoo!!!
There, now wasn’t that easy?
Hi Suzanne. I had to come upstairs. I threw a fucking DFH fit downstairs and stunk the place up.
My better half is not a happy camper, she’s having a lower G.I. look-see tomorrow at noon, so she’s half way through her fast and first bottle of Phospho-soda… She’s none too pleased with the succulent aroma of my pot of chili, to say the least…! ;-)
Oh, yes, I know Libras… dot every I and cross all t’s….toes and fingers.
Still. Big Smile at ya.
Suz, I told you a long time ago that if I could have swung it (is swung a word??) I would have come out to CA to buy your place. Glad that someone else beat me to it :-)
this is the place to let your hang down and forget about the troubles of the forking day
i’m grooving and smiling and its 65 outside – all the doors and windows open, token sleeping in his chair next to me – bailey has the bird feeder staked out (ya never know) and its a pleasant night at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods
Fit? I didn’t see no fit, just a simple plain observation that sometimes yer chickens come home to roost.
Yes’m, Nard Dear.
But, I’m zoning now.
Had to Hip Hip Hurray our dear Diving Mod.
I replied ya down thread …
I responded! :)
What’s got you smiling, sis?
speaking of dives…
boing boing reverse one and a half somersaults with three and a half twists, in the free position, with a perfect entry wait, there is a little kick at entry that only splashes the bulgarian judge.
you ARE mean CT:>)
see my #1 loohoo
Erm, maybe that wasn’t worded so well. What I meant to say, in essence, was that I’m so glad for you that it’s all worked out :-)

nahant, I have submitted my Digg. Please tell me it is safe for me to insert a Digg link in the comments. Meanwhile, y’all can go to the top of the page and use the Digg button there…whoever the Digg poster may be…
thanks for opening the digg neuro
I did console her tho, I told her it always tastes better the next day…! ;-)
Btw, I did duck…
Yeah, and hope that Newt can do way better than giving you “polite golf applause”.
i knew what ya meant ll – exhaling big sigh
its a single lady who is looking at it for her retirement and will be her first home to own – just like it was for me
Dugg, dude!
We’ll call it perfect, then. Bulgarians, after all, are best at sumo, not the high dive.
I am indifferent to the dives, but I sure would like to see that troll-zapper in action again. That gets huge applause.
*clapclapclap*
I hope to find a place like that someday. In the meantime, gotta split — g’night all!
I’m off to bed. Have a hot date with the fish in the morning. Remains to be seen whether they show up.
Aloha, LL and Dr. (pause) Dick!
Wowsers!
Sweet dreams, ye Leavers.
g’nite LL
g’nite dr dick – happy fishing in the morning
OK I guess we are open for business.
I really Digg Suzanne’s great news, and I hope ALL of you will join me in Digging it with her!
You had better! If you haven’t been through the prep you just don’t know what you are missing… it is much WORSE than the procedure…. At the Va they give ya Versed and Fentanyl intravenously so you can also watch on the TV and just don’t give a shit… But after the food sure does taste good!
Dugg.

Poor Green Warrior actually flew into Sac today for classes she takes near me. Flew into Armageddon.
What kind of fish are you dating Dr Dick??
Beautiful here in San Diego.
newt- you need to rethink this.
The FDL community has matured to the point that there are very very few trolls about. Regulars grew up, and stopped shouting “TROLL”! about 2 years ago, irrc.
A very few late-comers might have not realized this, and still like to do that kinda stuff.
On the other hand, the zapper can be put to good use, if, for example, someone continually uses !!!!!!!! as a closer!!!!!!!!!!
My shovel has dugg so much it’s wearing out and I will have to find a replacement Neuro… Keeping Orchard Supply in business!
Hugs Mary, man I hope it gets better soon.

OK!!!!!!!
You guys take good care…
Sorry, Suz…
*ouch* I remember vividly…! ;-)
Hi Nahant- great closer, but crikey, you are keeping reminding us about how and why we are pissed off. Sometimes I just have to zone out for a bit, so that I have the energy to fight another day.
Sacramento was in the “unhealthy for everyone part II level” Creepy.
But I still firmly believe that global warming is a myth.
I wonder how OKK is doing. Lahoma too.
we got historeez! And Suz rememberzz. ;)
Mary – I heard that some scientist discovered something called the “electron.” But I’m skeptical.
For the likely home sale:

For purely selfish reasons, was hoping it might still be available in a coupla years, when we might be moving to the area, but happy days are here again indeed!
Is Eli gonna be around any more?
Ya mean I might be carrying on a wincy bit toooooo much???
I’ve missed Raven and Norske Flamethrower too.
I heard someone had this wild idea that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Total heresy, of course.
Electron? Like electron night in november?
Raven and Norske have been around recently…!
just making me feel depressed. Not to say we should forget it, not at all. But time to gather good energy for next fight.

Nahant- and, to echo newt, how the heck are you?
Heh, I just made a bowl with fresh rice and shredded mozzarella and she told me, “you better go and hide in the room with it…” Sounds like I’m not getting any tonite…! ;-)
I will! I have moved so many times I have the packing down to an art.

Opps Doing alright Newt… how about you?? Did ya enjoy the peaches??
Suz- I haven’t done that, but I researched it a while back, and it sounds like a great option.
Having one 10 minutes ago, and one left… Thinking on cereal mañana.
mmmmmmmm
Kirk don’t forget to use you electronic disclaimer:
You gave newt peaches?!!!!
But I declined the kiss. Does that count?
Well, at least they weren’t Georgia peaches…! ;-)
and me peaches, apricots and yellow baby squash. i cooked my pork chop tonight in the cots and tossed in the squash at the very last minute just to barely heat it. nice and crunchy and picked up a wee bit of the sweetness from the cots.
twas a lovely meal. thanks to newton who brought me boxes yesterday (and lunch) along with the fruit he picked up from nahant.
My neighbor sure does have some great fruit trees and she shares with us:>)
But I always share with them… I still owe them a peach pie.. when it gets a tad bit cooler for baking..
night newton, RonD, Suzanne and CTuttle…
sleep well, pups
and be well, Nahant. Good on ‘ya for looking after you!
(and thanks, Nahant)

Ohhh sounds like a great dinner Suz! I was too busy to cook so Julie got us some take out Chevy’s… filled the tummy up..
Goodnight, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Especially you, Suzanne.
Aloha, Jay!
Newt don’t tell..
g’nite rond – and the best of all possible tomorrows to you
The lemons are tempting, but I’m overflowing with those.
But, those tomatoes are gonna be mature soon enough…
Aloha, Ron!
I have done that. They hold a LOT.
unfortunately, newt went adrift in his reply.
At one house where I spent some growing up time, there was a Babcock peach tree. Those were the best peaches I ever had.
What variety do you have on offer?
*sigh* and i’m moving away
talk about mixed emotions
Cheers!!
Oh yeah more cooking to be done when they are… good thing they all don’t ripen at once! Them Sun Golds will be lucky if any of them make into the house… pure delight right from the vine MMMMMMMMMM
oh good.. do they – i’ve not talked to anyone who has used em before.. but i have seem em around. since its out of state, i gotta use the 18′ and i worry that the stuff from my 1,086 st ft 2 bedroom/1bath with 2 storage sheds stuffed won’t fit in one and i’ll have to get two – doubling the cost.
Oops, I messed up again… My mutt was driving me batty so I gave him a scoop in his dish… But, I said, ‘it must be good…’ Open mouth, insert foot…! D’oh…! ;-)
ct’s trying real hard to get kicked outta the house tonight
Hi VG. Thanks for that reply. Someday, sigh.
I’m succeeding…! ;-)
Not sure will ask the neighbor… the apricots are blenheim real sweet when fully ripe ..
really, it could for now just be a place to hang up your hat, so that pups would have an easy reference!
got my mojo working
Suz, when I moved back to CA from Ohio, I let the moving company store my stuff in Ohio til I found a place in CA. It wasn’t very expensive….but that was years ago. When I found a place, I just called the moving company and they loaded my stuff on a truck and sent it out….and unloaded. Very easy. What does POD charge? Compare and make it easiest on yourself! Moving is ‘challenging’ — take ease wherever you can. You’re going somewhere wonderful…..enjoy!
Blenheims are said to be the best….at least here on the central coast…..I’m not sure if they are coming in from the central valley or are grown locally.
when i priced it out last year – a pod (a shipping container) cost less than a uhaul.. from here to portland was 1500 and the uhaul was 1,999 plus gas. a moving company was over 5k and they don’t do make outta state runs since everyone is moving outta ca and they are making an empty run back.
Nahant- a more simple question- white flesh? (don’t anyone go there). Babcocks are sweet and white inside. I think there may be other CA peach varieties of similar description, but all are a special treat. Not your ordinary peach.
I looked around there were ants all over my room and in the hallway. Must be trying to get away from the heat and looking for food. I kelt ‘em.
Ahh, why not…? 8-P
Suz- and I’ve heard some “professional moving company” horror stories in the past few years. When I looked, ~ 2 years ago, seemed like there were various companies that offered PODs, so worth doing some research. If I were to move now a POD would be my first choice.
spread dried coffee grounds around where they are getting in – spidey told me about that one last year when i had ants around token’s water – haven’t had an ant since. i sprinkle my used ground around the outside of the house
Has CA fallen that much…?
yeap too fucking expensive to live here – many jobs have been outsourced and getting hit hard by the foreclosures and high gas prices. a lotta companies have moved outta state and some take their employees with them but a lot dont.
No yellow just like they are supposed to be..
Look at how much $$$ our Dem Senators got from the telcos..
Our best Senator DIFI got ….are you ready for this..
$2,194,058
i can’t call her the swear word i wanna call her so i’m just gonna think it
Because this is serious peach discussion. Among CAians.
~~~White as Snow, Sweet as Honey
[snip]
For years, Babcock was the only white peach most people knew about. If a white peach is to be a player in today’s home orchard it has to be as good as or better than Babcock. ~~~
Nahant! I am so disappointed!
For example, my friend owns a small 1 bd condo in Oxnard (not a fancy town, but her condo is nice) — sales of similars were at about $290,000. at the height — early 2005 maybe. Now at $149,000. We’re talking 700 sq. ft. in a mainly hispanic town of 180,000 people. California is an expensive place to live in…..but you can get a sense of how difficult it is when a place loses that ‘value.’ Blame the mortgage companies and realtors for running up the prices. I don’t think we’re anywhere near the bottom of our foreclosure fallout.
p.s. Obviously you are not a native CAian.;)
if i had sold 3 summers ago, i wudda sold it for in the low to mid 400’s… i accepted a low 300 price for it
I didn’t plant them… But I doo have a seedless Valencia orange tree and I am still picking this years crop from March… Pure sugary orange… the longer on the tree the sweeter they get and chilled man are they refreshing on a hot day..
Right now, when the I’m moved to write something lengthy, which isn’t so all that often, I just put it up at Dkos, which is handy and easy to link to and often sparks some really interesting discussion. (And often not.)
And probably glad to get it! I’m at about break even now. Sittin’ tight and hoping for the best. Glad to have a roof over my head.
nahant, wanna try to rephrase that condemnation?
Yuumie… put a yellow crook neck in the wave for 2.5 minutes it exploced (hope NSA gets this) but was wonderful and whole. Sliced with butter and was so subtle and nutricious. Yum.
Suz…Blackjack last week was immobile and did not eat or drink. He got aspiring and glucosamine to no effect. I was computer less last week so missed the FDLers. He got a vet perscription for steroid which has helped the appetite and walked about a whole block yesterday. We had a kiddie party for him today a 3 and 4 year old and their older bothers 11 and 12. He got lots of attention and started chasing the tennis balls for them. It was greast to see. Even with the motion pills he takes an ocassional header. But he is worlds better eating and drinking organic babyback ribs and turkey burger.
Super you are getting out of the cabin, Congratulations and thank goddess the fires did not come up your canyon. Just had another java so I’m in for a while. Hi to Nahant, Nuero, CT and all!
drooling
hint hint
i’m dropping hints
Woo Hoo – Snoopy dancing with joy and vicarious relief here, there and everywhere. Way to go Suz!
Heading back to bed with my trusty Vic’s Vapor jar & Kleenex. Da FISA debacle made me quite sick and will catch up with all you fabulous late late late firedog comments tomorrow. zzzzzzz!
yeah, well, I, among other FDLers I’m sure, would like to have a place, with links, so that we can easily keep up with your adventures!
oh noz and YEAH glad to hear he is better
hope ya feel better brat – sending ya warm healing thoughts
We have a Tangelo variety that is grown here… Sweet and succulent like tangerines with the size of navel oranges… Pure heaven…! ;-)
Speaking of peaches and such……one of the joys of living in CA is the produce. Farmers markets are now resplendant with peaches and plums and apricots and tomatoes and peppers and potatoes and olive oil and greens of all types and radishes of multiple colors. Now, I did get great tomatoes in Ohio (really better, I think, than CA tomatoes….so amazingly flavorful) but the immense variety of produce is wonderful. And I also get to hear the ocean and see the ocean and smell the ocean. That’s pretty darned special.
dearie, you’ve not had any of the heirloom variety tomatoes i get at my local market. grown in the same town just down the road and they are fat, multi colored, and yummy. best i’ve ever eaten.
Is the B word not allowed… she sure does warrant that description…
SOB
Is that better???
~~~ModNote: Edited for content.~~~
Nahant- sorry, I wasn’t accusing you of planting something other than Babcock or kin. I really did have some great yellow flesh peaches… once… friend gave them to me… GA peaches, home grown. They were quite yummy. The friend got them from a friend, who had discovered that his GA peaches didn’t pass canning muster!
We’ll see when the time comes for the party.. If there are any left I will bring some… but there should be at least one or two I can save for ya Suz!
Nahant- let give the FDL system a test.
I previously thought that bitch was acceptable FDL word.
It’s been a long time and involved breaking up pieces of three households, disposing of a lot, so can’t even guess. But, do recall they either brought 2 or had a 2nd on stand-by, and I only used one. Couldn’t tell you what size, but I was surprised how much it held.
Best part was having the pod delivered and left to fill at my convenience — less chaos, time to mark things and make orderly decisions. I think they supplied some labor when they came back to pick it up, don’t recall.
Oh, we do have lovely heirloom tomatoes at the market…..and my dad grew many varieties up in Los Gatos. But there was something about those Ohio tomatoes — something in the soil, I think….just amaziing. I miss ‘em.
When we were in California last month, we looked for Farmers’ markets. We found one in Napa. It was great! Even better, we discovered the Model Bakery there, where they had some of the most delicious bread I’ve ever tasted.
We gtrow most of our own stuff, but Tuesday I had to buy two heads of lettuce grown by an Albanian family. They were at the Eagle River Farmers Market. The woman who helped me threw in some garlic bulbs for free.
Hey bigbrother,
my dog just had to go to the vet to get IV fluids and meds, a pinched neck nerve was truly about to kill her. We had tried oral steroids for about 2 weeks and no good. This was our last hope and so far, knock on wood, it has really helped.
I’m glad your dog is better!
Heh, don’t mess with GA Peaches… (in more ways than one…)! ;-)
los gatos is just over the hill from me in boulder creek dearie
thanks, i’ll give them a call and pin down the details. have been hesitating about doing it but i feel better now. thanks bunches :)
Now now Dearie just ask Newton how good Ca tomatoes are he tried one of my Sun Gold’s yesterday..
i’m so happy ginger is feeling better, margot. gonna continue to send her positive thoughts just to be safe
Yep. I thought they were all supposed to be red. Wrong.
OK, that was supposed to be a reply to nahant…
Ya’ll don’t know home grown… produce, that is… until you’ve tried Hawaii’s volcanic soil produce…! ;-)
maybe if you asked McCain he’d say it for you
Bought and paid for…what a whore trading our rights for her greed. Make sure that gets all over the net with the source documents. Democracy is for sale highway robbery.
$2,194,058.00
Yum. We have a couple of bakers at our market in Ventura….there is a jalapeno/cheese bread that is fabulous. We also have cheese makers and now a sausage guy and a woman who brings chimichuri sauce and lots of other delicious sauces. AND a tamale seller — the line at the tamale stand each Saturday is wonderful to see. I love to support the locals since I don’t have a place to grow my own. And I find sorrel…..the most wonderful green in the world……makes a sauce that compliments salmon perfectly. And Meyer lemons. And avocados. Yep, good stuff!
Sounds like a dirt fight coming on… my dirt is better that your dirt:>)
I put mine together from SPECIAL ingredients!
I am trying to do my part BigBrother…. be sure to use this disclaimer on all electronic communication:
Our summer is, well, not developing. Whe I was in Seattle in June, it was the coldest early June on record. They were calling it “Junuary.” We’re getting “Julyuary” in Alaska. Keeps the forest fires at bay, at least.
hi bigbrother
Special ’sweeteners’ for the soil, eh? No details necessary…! ;-)
I grew up in San Jose when it was still in a valley filled with fruit trees. I know you will miss Boulder Creek, but how wonderful to have enjoyed it. Portland area is also wonderful. My Dr.Daughter loved her years in Oregon — Corvallis. She’s now in Bozeman. Her sister and I are just thrilled to keep her in the west. We always feared that she would want to go back to the east where she went to school. She’s 5th generation Californian, and I’m just glad to have her still here in the west.
I had family in Ohio and remember the toms being special. Was told it was the soil
i’m still not sure if i’m gonna settle in at the north coast beaches (north of newport and south of astoria) or somewhere along the columbia river. not sure of which side of the river.
i have faith that i’ll know it when i find it
As I hear it, summer is moving north….I’ll be cultivating cactus while you’re growing our cherries in the not too distant future…….unless theories change back to global cooling :)~
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! I have a cranky spouse to tend to…! Aloha Oe!!! *g*
nite tuttle
My daughter has friends in Newport….and they love it. There are all kinds of charming little towns in the mountains, too. Where did the young couple settle and how near to them do you want to be? Oregon is incredibly beautiful and warm. Reminds me in many ways of the California of my youth.
aloha ct
that are staying with his kin in beaverton while they look for jobs and their own place.
Loving kindness brings big rewards….eventually. Pleasant dreams and best wishes.
Good night CT and stay out of the bathroom…she will be happier
Oregon is nice BUT WARM…my two oldest live in Portland and most of the year it is anything but warm… well maybe for a few weeks…. this year they had snow in May… go figure…
Now that’s probably the best advice I’ve read on this — or any! — site in so long — probably ever!
i like rain – i’m currently living in a temperate redwood rain forest and love it. i’m sure i’ll find someplace that gets 75″ of annual rainfall up there to enjoy while being retired.
You are doing the part for thousands of people Nahant. Anyone who trades our freedom for their profit needs to be exposed in a major way. Good research.
I think Bigbrother is watching me cuase tonight I got bounced up to a second tier tech who had me authorise remote control to fix my password. He was moving my cursor remotely. When ATT page came up a picture of George Bush with a terrorist blurb appeared.
My tech at Staples wiped my hard drive and reinstalled my XP Home operating system which comes with Outlook as a mail server. I could send but not recieve and could get on line. Oddly he said I would have to change my password on the DSL icon at desktop. Their is no place to do that in properties. And more oddly he said I had used caps on my password mistakenly. Not. I carefully checked with word by typing it. Third password changfe in 3 days and he let me oick one. That is a first.
They have immunuty and carte blache Don’t know exactly why unless it is power madness.
I was unclear (and it won’t be my first time!) — I meant that the scenery is beautiful and the people are warm. I liked Oregonians a lot — pretty straightforward folk. I probably couldn’t do the rain, but my daughter tolerated it…..and her garden was always lovely and productive. My girl is now in Montana where it snows in June! Their summer is maybe six weeks. I like Montana a lot. I liked Oregon a really lot. (Corvallis, though, was hard to get to — few flights for us outsiders to easily get to family.)
If you don’t become water logged or grow fungus on ya… When it rains up there they call it Oregon Sun Shine!!
i’m not a techie but that sounds strange to me bb
enjoy the countdown to moving day Suzanne
If I was within a few hours’ drive I’d come and help you
nite all

My youngest girl was in Grants Pass and you would have to fly into Medford… I always drove up to see her and the girls… They are now near Dallas TX…. He is looking back in Grants pass for work as they don’t like Texas…
i have kaiser medical insurance in my retirement so i’m one of those american’s whose medical insurance dictates where i have to live. otherwise, who knows where i’d end up.
kaiser has facilities in portland and burbs and salem along with across the river in vancouver and longview washington.
i haven’t flown in a decade at least so flying’s not high on my priority list.
Night Neuro… Good on ya for using the requisite disclaimer for electronic communications:>)
Hope the bobo on your finger is healing up well..
The Lessig post The immunity hysteria might drive most FDL-ers bonkers, but among the comments are some splendid ones.
Having been moved from California to Texas at age 11, I can well imagine that a young family from Oregon would find Texas not their place. I hope they can get back to Oregon! It took me half a lifetime to get back to California …. and California was all different when I finally came back for real.
Hey yonodeler!
Thanks for doing the hard work for us!
i’m a navy brat so we travelled a bunch when i was young but always came back to ca. my dad retired in 64 and i’ve been in ca ever since. it sure has changed
That’s like Boston & Nahant for me
At least you are corralled in great places! The first time I saw Portland I was reminded of San Francisco. It’s lovely and friendly. I haven’t seen the Oregon coast but my daughter assures me that it is worth seeing. I love the Pacific Ocean…..just love it. I know you will know your place when you see it.
yeap. is how i knew this was the right place for me. i know i’ll find it – really just a question of how long it will take.
Stoller’s comment. Wow.
Dang time slips by without ya noticing it has gotten early AGAIN…
Night Pups see ya next late late night! Don’t forget you disclaimer
And NO MORE GOODIES for them NSA Pric*s!!
nice. that is one sweetly worded repudiation.
Thanks for sharing, Nahant……very cool!
g’nite dood.. thanks again for the fruit and squash – tell your julie hi for me
nite nahant
Will do in the morning she is fast asleep now…night for realsies…
Suz, it’s going to be a great adventure and you *will* know it when you find it. Liberating to know you’re also free to try something out just for the hell of it.
yeap. i moved up here not knowing a soul and have done fine here. as a kid, we moved every year or two so i grew up with starting over again and again.
and now i don’t gotta think about school for baby girl or any of the other decisions involved in moving up here.
this one is entirely for me. very liberating
Trade offs. The greenery is staggering. Lived in Portland two years went to Portland state you may want too. Downtown is neat lots of pedestrian. Good are school there. The politics is out of this liberal world! There is also light rail from Portland to Mount Hood. And the Majestic Mount ST Helens across the great Columbia river. The arts and culture are great too. You will have so much fun you will be pinching yourself. I loved my time in Oregon and graduated in Eugene at the U of O where I recieved a dandy liberal education. My 1/2 bro Nam vet grew pot on one of the islands, married a nurse and had kids bought a house in N.W. Portland and sold pot downtown and worked as a welder in the ship holds. With a shipping amd fishing industry Portland has resturant sectiom to die for. Make sure you take the fam to Rose’s the portions are huge to big for a hungry tree faller. My girl friends dad ran the youth detention facilities and she did a little hookin while in college…top clientele. Her mom was the pricipal of a catholic school I was told, SW Portland is very nice and Monica Lewinsky went to Lewis and Clark there. I have to say life in Oregon puts cal to shame. The culture the freedom the beautiful Basalt Cascades mountain range with all the hot springs and native flora and fauna speak for themselves. I stayed for ten years despite the allergies cuased by molds and tree pollen. I worked in a lumber mill pulling green chain. a fertilizer warehouse (Webfoot) and painted pipes in the basement of Portland State. I worked very hard for little pay.
The greates phenomena in Oregon is the tire trucker people who consider 300 a little one. I mean we are talking big super strong people.
The biggest thing was the natural honesty especially in the country.
i drove up there several years ago – had never been- and loved it. green is very important to me and i’ve learned that i’m not a city girl. give me a place in the country yet close to a grocery store with good local product, toss in a creek or ocean, some trees and i’m good :)
Per Lessig:
What’s this? Lessig is normally sane, but he he seems to be saying that the President wasn’t required to obey the unamended FISA law. Obviously, he didn’t, but there is no guarantee that he’ll obey the amended law, unless it legalizes everythign thing he has been doing.
Wow, Oregon in a paragraph. Yep, it’s a special place. Thanks for your wonderful sharing of it.
and southern washington is just across the river… not much difference that i could see between the two
