Yes not only is it a plague but I believe this is an issue that can be winning on both sides of the isle. So called “Conservatives” and “Libertarians” theoretically be “for” fixing this issue.

The “imminent domain” decision is a plague.

And so you should!!!

As a puplicity move, FDL totebags would be very well laked.

Imagine, seeing those totebags everywhere, this conveyance transcends Red-Blue ’squabbles’, and they are very practical, as well.

I came a little late to the party but this is basically my issue this cycle. The court has been doing some good work, but other times seems woefully out of touch with reality. By reality I mean the actual ramifications of its decisions. Like the decision that said that the goverment could take your land for somthing as vague as “economic development”. This decision was as though they had no idea that maybe it would be bad for private property rights, one of the most basic lynchpins of our economy. That putting the court’s stamp on something so vague has huge practical and systemic problems.

I also think the possibility of Roe being overturned also falls into this category. I think if they did overturn it, the blood in the streets…the practical effect of that ruling would soon cause an outrage, backlash and a legalization. (not saying we should be complacent, I think preventing this to begin with is the best course.)

We need practical decisions that are in keeping with our Constitution and laws and don’t give equal rights to corporations and citizens alike. Individual rights should trump corporate rights when in doubt, due to the disparity in resources between a corporation and an individual.

Too many times the corporations are getting far more than their fair share. The deference to corporations is a winning strategy I think. The corporations become the boogey man, not the justices themselves. This is something more relatable.

I think trying to counter the “liberal activist judges” meme is also helpful. Pointing out the Right just wants to have it their way all the time regardless of what the Constitution and the law say is helpful because it makes them look difficult, unrealistic and downright crazy.

Individual rights should be supreme. This includes right to privacy. I think a national bill on privacy is long over due. They have this in England. We have it for medical records (HIPPA) why not for any personal information and communications? Why not for purchases you make on the internet? Why should a company be able to bury their privacy guidelines in the fine print and then sell your purchase history to the highest bidder? In short they shouldn’t. All these should be opt in, not opt out as they mostly are nowadays. You should have to authorize every time they sell your info or just eliminate the practice.
