I joined the FISA BO group (love that acronym) and even put up a small blog post about it on his site. Seems if you do hunt for a search engine on Obama’s site, which takes some looking, FISA brings up zero responses.

The issue does not exist on Obama’s website. I find this odd, since this is at the central rotted root of the Bush/Cheney/McCain cabal.

The past 14 years I conducted my band – which I’ve turned over to a new guy – for the Wasilla Water Festival 4th of July Parade, but this year I get to watch the craziest running race in North America.

I think it was flat wrong. I believe the reference to “militia” in the Second Amendment was not put there for no reason. And I believe the founding fathers did not intend to authorize personal ownership of assault rifles, machine guns or cop-killer bullets.

Yet, the time may come when we NEED the Second Amendment. Although I hate to contemplate that.

I hear you… but you know I do would like to own an M14… great weapon and could be used for hunting with a limit on how many rounds you can have in the clip… You are right though it is the people and not the weapon…. it is just a tool and it must be used properly and for the right reasons..

I am currently reading Naomi Wolfe’s The Shock Doctrine, and while I have read of labor union leaders being kidnapped or killed, etc., I have not seen any specific reference to stricter control of individual gun ownership as one of the tactics used by the bad guys who wish to take over a country

But I live in south CA and we see youngsters in the past several weeks knifing each other. I don’t know — I could get all preachy but who cares? Our society is tanking and I just don’t see what you or I can do about it. I can go work to save 5 or 10 kids, but 25 others will be taking to the knife. Got ideas? I do! If we had social workers in schools. If we ‘invited’ parents to attend schools with their troublesome children. If we expected more and held people accountable. It IS doable….but it requires real care and real dedication. I don’t think America has that now. I just don’t.

I’m not an average American, if there is one. Here’s what I own:

mine – a 30-06 hunting rifle (very old), an old almost unusable .22 that is really accurate, but slow

inherited – a 12 gauge pump, a .308 deer rifle, a .22 target gun, a .25 weird Saturday Night special my dad found in a hotel room.

on loan – a Belgian paratrooper short-barrelled semi-automatic 12 gauge with a fast-action 16-round clip and three reloads. I keep this one very, very locked up. The rest are locked up or disassembled too.

I seldom shoot, maybe once every other year, either to sight in, or to hunt for birds, mostly ptarmigan or grouse.

Yes, education. I started out as a teacher…..and I drove ‘em hard. And encouraged them to be the best they could be. Later I was a juvenile probation officer and I ‘offered’ to attend school with any of my probates who had an attendance problem (just as I would have with my own children). If a huge minority of our students are not attending school, call the parents to account. If half of poor kids (or more) are not graduating, who is to blame? It Sickens me that the Right chooses to blame the teachers. (The Right wants to grab that huge money that goes to public education…..that’s an easy one.) No one gets educated through non attendance. How many schools these days have truancy officers? How many schools have counselors? How many schools even have a school nurse anymore? And how many parents (Asians excepted) demand that their children do their schooll work? We are a mess!

In Clovis Unified, they first fine the parents and it doesn’t take many days of truancy for that to take place. The fine is pretty hefty, if that doesn’t do the trick the school district file charges against the parents. We do not have a big problem with truancy. Fresno Unified on the other hand is in jeopardy of a state takeover.

Amazing thing to watch local news and they talk about issues and did not see pictures of violence ….. there was an accident with a military exercise where real ammo was used instead of blanks….. 17 people injured and the horror of the reporting….

It’s really pretty basic, I think. But it requires everyone believing that education matters. I don’t see that in the community where I live. Parents aren’t even called when their children are truant. I find that shocking. As a parent, I knew that my own kids might ’stray’ – and I counted on the school to help me do my job. In my town, kids can cut classes regularly and parents will never know. Talk about making education irrelevant. As an atty I was offered two cases that I couldn’t take. A girl was seriously injured while running loose at the beach on a school day. Her parents were not notified of her truancy. Worse, a girl was rendered paraplegic in an accident while truant — and had been truant for days prior. Her parents are hardworking field workers who asked the school to keep them informed. Didn’t happen. I don’t know why, but I know the school managed to have no liability. It’s easy to blame poor people, but that is NOT the answer.

I’ve personally seen a deliberate ‘fragging’ while running a lane, and, seen first hand the after-effects of another incident with a M-60 that had live ammo that was supposed to be blanks… Still a mystery as to how the guy didn’t notice it was live ammo…! 8-(

The decision last week was about DC, and it is different from any other US city – federal property. So a lot of ownership vs use issues weren’t addressed. The court has more 2nd Amendment stuff next year. We need a better court on other issues more than we need a better one on this one….
