Eric! John! Eureka!
Right on ES!
eureka!
Jus Cogens!
Eureka Springs!
Clapton! Yeah, ES!!!
And, JJ… *swoon* *g*
Late Nite was just too fast and furious for me to follow and also watch “Barry Lyndon” at the same time. Thread looked very fun.
Evening all
i posted this video at my place several months ago and got a comment from rocky, the piano player, confirming it was crossroads. way forking kewl.
I just finished listening to Olbermann’s Special Comment on FISA, Obama, immunity, etc.
First off, I’m very happy to hear someone in the media call for prosecution of Bush and his henchmen. The alternative would get very ugly: foreign indictments under the doctrine of “universal jurisdiction,” trials in absentia, sentences in absentia, and rewards for apprehension and/or summary justice. And not all of the nations that would avail themselves of the precedents set by U.S./Israel regarding rewards and apprehension on foreign soil would be European.
And at home, letting Republican criminals off lightly has not proven to be a good idea. Iran/Contra was worse that Watergate and the Bush Administration has been far worse still.
Second, I have no idea what makes John Dean think that Bush’s henchmen would be too proud to accept pardons and/or that Bush himself would be too much in denial to offer them. These are very pragmatic and unprincipled people, who know no shame. Unless the House makes this a “case of impeachment,” IMHO Bush will most certainly give a blanket pardon to any and all accomplices in his “Global War on Terror.”
Here are two relevant articles:
Per “The Obama & Olbermann Master Plan For Criminal FISA prosecutions” By bmaz, Sunday June 29, 2008:
Per “PRESIDENT CLINTON’S INDICTMENT AND PARDON — COMING SOON” By JOHN DEAN, Friday, Dec. 2000:
WHo is Barry Lyndon?
Is JJ’s name John or did I mess up?
DIGG!
dugg and thanks
Didn’t I post this one here, awhile back, I remember somebody posted Lynyrd’s version shortly after…! ;-)
Kubrick’s underappreciated masterpiece!
some dude they named a movie after
Damn fine pick tonight,
tis a great song and video
He certainly didn’t eat half a crow.. made a pivot and attack.. but missed way to much or gave far more latitude.. He’s playing Tim Russert the strategizer or something. Completely forgot about the forth amendment while giving Obama all the false political excuses in the world to do the same.
Sorry, Barry Lyndon is a film from 1975 about an Irish rogue and his adventures in Europe. Great film and wonderful music!
Cale, nevermind, Eric, penned and pic’d some mighty fine tunes…! ;-)
I have no idea.. Would love to know what JJ stands for…
born john w cale
Isn’t that just his name…? *g*
Suzanne, I saw your EPU’d “snort” comment below.
My answer is, no, I don’t really think so
Rather prescient of him to drop the W for another J. /s
thanks, suzanne. I think I have actually read that Wiki before.
Hey Newt! It was hard to choose, FDL, or BL?
There is a focus group from PA on cspan right now.. being interviewed about Mccain, Obama, Hillary, etc. etc. These people are scaring the shit out of me.
That’s why Dawg made NetFlix.
And the costumes, and the lighting…
Crossroads? Leslie West at the World Trade Center
Are they Chicken Littles, or what?
It’d be nice if Nancy got off her fat and lazy arse, and, set the damn table already… Damnit, Woman, I’m hungry…! ;-)
Ever the whore for lighting…
that is forking sweet! thanks yonodeler
They aren’t readers (except for a couple) and it shows just how well informed (NOT) the MSM manages to keep our citizens.
And the costumes…
I saw it when it came out, and didn’t recall much of the feel of the film until I saw it again last year.
Dark story.
Uh….not quite…
He was and is a masterful example of 19th Century English Literature perpetrated on us by William Makepeace Thackery.
I loved the movie.
Of course I and my girlfriend at the time where very, very high on LSD…..
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Perhaps not as good ad ‘One Eyed Jacks’ for watchin’ while cheek to cheek with the Cosmos but pretty damn cool all the same. Gorgeous color….but then….
How would I know!
EU, Love Eric Clapton. My brother introduced me to his music in the late 60’s when all I wanted to do was dance to Motown.
Funny it was considered ‘picaresque’ at the time….but yeah…
Barry had a few problems in his journey through life.
I’ve heard that it lingers within one’s spinal cortex for years…! ;-)
I was stunned by the music, which Mr. CE and I have followed Irish/Scottish traditional music, now, for decades. But I was totally seduced by candlelight in film and pictures, especially for the eighteenth century.
its a shame
Actually, since I took so much for so long, you can reshape your entire personality using it as a chemical scalpel to slash away the bad and let the light in.
Serious stuff at the time and why do you think the Feds are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more down on it than anything else?
Scared the fuck out of Ol’ Dick Cheney and Tricky Dicky at the time.
I love early Clapton, but by the mid 70’s on could never listen to him without hearing Cale.. which was/is fantastic, but Eric never seemed to come up with anything original by the mid to late 70’s.
Leslie West, and Mountain.

I was 16.
I shit you not.
At least I THINK it was ‘69, mighta been ‘70.
*G*
Just heard him on the radio and he is one great bluesman now. Don’t forget Muddy and The Wolf just got better all the way to their graves.
Clapton is truly impressive now.
gotta link about that there little dick/tricky dick allegation?
dood! we are the same age.. i was a sophmore at mt diablo in concord in 69/70
Hiya Suzanne!
I agree, by and large, at least til this episode and song… *g*
hey ce
Exactly. Olbermann was nearly incoherent. Somehow he seems to think that the rest of the bill, other than telco immunity, supports FISA rather than gutting it. And he claims to have gotten that from the legal genius John Dean. WTF???
What is with you and ‘links’?
I can bury you with links but you see….
I don’t need to since…..
I was there.
Get it.
Personal experience. SDS, Black Panthers, Chicago Seven….
I knew some of those people. I was in the frikin’ room with Abbie Hoffman when they decided to float the rumor we’d spiked the D.C. water supply.
‘Course today’s CongressFolks are even more insane than they would have ended up if the deed had been done.
It was no special comment. Between his last scowl at Hillary and tonight, he’s really risking diluting their significance.
you alluded that tricky dic/little dick did lsd. i am not willing to take anyone’s word about that unless it is under oath and has been throughly vetted. you are not and have not.
Olbermann has two man-crushes: John Dean and Barack Obama. Both are human, and both are wrong here. But Keith seems unable to recognize that.
I thought A.C meant that the concept of lsd scared the GOP (Cheney and Nixon among them) at the time, not that their personal experience with it scared them. Nixon (and John Mitchell and J Edgar Hoover) were known to be quite terrified of Timothy Leary and his impact on “the young.”
Did not say nor allude that.
This man gets it.
I was in the same class(year). The year before I got there, The Who played at my HS–I missed it
Bonjour everyone….. this morning we leave Paris….
the Louvre just about did me in yesterday….. NOW I know why French women are not fat…..if they ride the Metro….. they get a darn good aerobic workout twice or more a day…. stairs up, down, rabbit warrens of tunnels with miles to walk, then up down….. over and through…
hahahahaha token won’t let me replace my avatar with this
i read it as they had personal experience and that was why they were scared
where to next katymine?
those are some silly kittehs
Hi katymine!
What’s on my mind tonight? The Kung Fu of global replace is too powerful to be left in the hands of some folks.
OK Suz, I’m scared of being rude.
the country MIGHT have been better off had they done so…
Token’s telling ya to put down the tazer and step away, Suz!
come on, ce – we are family here in the dark at the lake. if you are concerned about how something may be interpreted, try saying it how you would like someone to say it to you :)
What Teddy said.
Too bad he couldn’t be more fickle and get goo-goo eyed over Glenzilla and Jonathan Turley instead.
Hey, Wigwam. That was my thought when Keith trotted out Dean’s rationale for why blanket pardons wouldn’t be granted–”well, it would admit to criminal activities”. Yeah? So? Like they have any other motivation besides keeping their sorry a$$es out of jail and putting as much of the truth through a crosscutting shredder as possible?
Where exactly would that get us? Ooooooh! Blanket pardons. SEE they really DID do very bad things! But since, you know, they’ve pretty much admitted it, let’s just move on. Nothing to see here, folks…
Guess we should all pay a visit to findlaw.com/org and ask Mr Dean to explain in a little more detail.
Hi, ES
Hi, Suz
Hi, all Pups.
Getting past my bedtime. I better sign off soon.
FunnyD
I love that site. I can spend hours going through old cartoons.
g’nite funny d
that is pretty good all-purpose advice, Suz!
Hi Chris!
Careless Love
Heh.
Hi Funny D!
I agree. Unfortunately, as someone pointed out (here?) the other night, KO’s an entertainer who happens to be a journalist, not the other way round.
Hi, FunnyHusseinDiva!
i check it and ihasahotdog daily
thanks neuro
Going to Charles de Gaul Airport, rent a car and drive to the Brittany coast… to a town called Saint Malo to a castle Mont St. Michel which is out on an island…..
Aloha, Funny H Diva!

Going for breakfast… or Petite Dejour….. see ya another day…. Hold down the fort will ya….. Sleep well everyone
Rachael Maddow read the entire thing today.
That runner should sue the bejeebus outta them. Freaks.
FunnyD
I’ve been there three times. It is wonderful.
Goodnight, Katymine.
And where are our flickr post cards? *hands on hips*
Evening all. Nuthin on my mind tonite — blank slate.
Heh, how are you?
these days, that’s probably a pretty good place to be
It’s such a hoot that they modify the work of others that they quote on their site to satisfy the narrow little worldview of their readers.
Right on Katymine!
WOOT!
Have a blast dear!
Only when the tide is in…! Enjoy Katy!
Hi, neuro.
Not Hussein anymore. Senator BO is on his own for awhile.
I’ve gotten 2 fundraising emails from his campaign today. Replied to both with “not a penny until he exerts maximum influence defeating telco immunity.”
FunnyD
Margot,
What a group!
Ornery as ever!
Thanks fer askin though.
Just a quick hello to all the pups…. was a long day didn’t finish till after nine and make sure I dugg the Late Late Night….hope the rest of you have:>)
Good night all you Pups will catch up tomorrow!!

Maybe, Barak shouldn’t have forgone public financing…! ;-)
Gnite nahant, I do believe I am right behind ya.
Gnite Pups.

Blessed be.
Mahalo, for the letting us know, nahant! *g*
(((nahant)))
g’nite busted
Aloha, BK!
Dang, preveew is my freend! ;-)
the peterr prayer
Very OT, Funny D, but i saw the always hunky-of-mind Rushdie on Charlie Rose tonight.
Just thought I’d mention it.;)
Yeah.. kinda zen.
magot, you know there is no such thang as off topic during late late nite (hands on hips)
Goodnight nahant and Bustednuckles.
Many hugs and prayers for you, Nahant!
Sorry I missed that.
I am still troubled by the Olbermann/Dean/Greenwald dispute.
It seemed as if Keith was trying to soften his position tonight, perhaps in response to some of the feedback he received (I know I sent him some)…but he never came out and acknowledged Glenn or any of his arguments.
I never did hear him address the statute of limitations issue.
I wish he would have had Jonathan Turley on to comment.
At least he advised Obama to vote for the no immunity amendment, though acknowledging it would probably fail
But I think he tried too hard to give Obama cover for his failure of leadership
just a few random thoughts
What were we just sayin’…? *g*
watch that glare, Suz!
Good for you. They probably don’t read my replies, but I’ve been doing that, too. Not just to the Obamans, either. The DNC, too, and anyone else who wants a blank check.
FUCK
i am so forking sorry margot
Sadly, I think I agree.
*turning glare on self with disable setting*
Well I had a true hillbilly adventure today.. ran out of gas twelve country miles from my house, in the middle of nowhere. Walked about half of that in order to get home.. after encountering the second snake I considered borrowing a horse at one point. /s
double fork.. make that disrupt not disable.. dayammitalltohell.. i’m gonna go sit in the corner
OUCH… i am so sorry that happened es
the keyboard can be a rather blunt instrument at times
I had a terrible feeling with that Hillary comment that he had jumped the shark.
Subliminal rejection of all R’s… we understand…! ;-)
Ooooh. Thanks. I still think his appearance on the Colbear Repor was a high-water mark for that show.
FunnyD
*whew* yeah, yeah, that’s it (nice save ct thanks dood)
very astute point
especially considering Suz *is* one
*g*
Don’t horses panic when they see snakes?
If it’s any comfort, I’ve done that once with every car I’ve owned except the most recent. How else do you figure out when the gas gauge really means the tank’s empty?
And a terrific guest on Maher on occasion.
exactly! is how i’ve always found out
Don’t worry about it.;)
I detest the substitution of one term for another in legal reporting; e.g., reading part of a legal opinion and substituting gender for sex, and, substituting innocent for not guilty when reporting a plea or verdict. Such substitutions are perpetrated by some correspondents in public broadcasting—who may in some instances be observing rules found in a style manual.
I rarely set off to anywhere (except the gas station) if I have less than 1/4 a tank. I don’t want to trust my wellbeing to the danged gas gauge.
exhaling
thanks margot
It was another beautiful day.. and you know in those situations…don’t stress out, expect nothing and plan on enjoying the walk.. The only folks who didn’t stop (out of three I saw in twelve miles) was the person with their window rolled up and (I assume) air conditioning on. So I didn’t accomplish what i planned for the day (no biggie) but it all worked out considering. Needless to say I am plum tuckered out.
So now you’ll step away from the tazer…? Puh-puh-lease, Don’t Taze Me…! Cuffs work fine… *g*
sounding the all clear ct :)
my wife disagrees. she has no qualms about driving around on empty, saying “there’s still some gas in there…”
Oh this old truck hasn’t had a working fuel gauge since Bill Clinton was Governor.
yeah, mighty fine, right, CT? *g*
2 things
running out of gas and shaving cream
LOL
Ssshh…! ;-)
ct had his chance but bawk bawk bawk
If that’s the case, they need to fix their style manuals. “Not guilty” is generally considered correct, for instance, since technically a plea of “not guilty” means you’re saying you’re not guilty of that crime. Innocence is a whole ‘nuther thing.
Style manuals can be a good thing. They can ensure that when a correspondent or reporter uses a particular word or phrase in a narrative, it means the same thing. You don’t change what you’re quoting, though, except to clarify something.
There were many Sunday school talks about that at a local church. How the pastor’s mom was real poor but she would always pick people up to go to church, and the gas gauge said “E” for miles and miles, but the Lord provided.
I always thought the Lord mayhap provided a faulty gas gauge, but what do i know.
*Ouch* twist the dagger…! *g*
I finally decided to follow a similar policy, although there are usually a few gallons left when the thing’s on ‘E’.
the caddy was like that es – gas was 19cents/gallon and i would put a quarter in it and hope i didn’t run outta gas as my bbf in high school and i went all over pleasant hill and concord. i always kept a dime handy to call home and tell my dad that we had run outta gas – he would get so exasperated with us when i would answer ‘a quarter’s worth’ when he asked about how much we had put in.
If Olbermann is properly quoting/paraphrasing John Dean, I’m concerned about John. The claim that Bush wouldn’t give out a blanket pardon to his henchmen because it would be an admission of guilt, seems very wrong to me. The notion that his henchmen would not accept individual pardons because it would be an admission of guilt on their part seems almost crazy. Certainly the Iran/Contra conspirators had no such problems.
Also Olbermann claimed that the rest of this FISA bill (aka HR 6304) other than immunity
“restores FISA.” In fact, FISA is current law. The Protect American Act of August 2007 suspended/overrode parts of it, but the PAA expired in mid February 2008. The year-long programs authorized under the PAA expire at various times between August 2008 and mid-February 2009. Per the ACLU:
That doesn’t sound to me like “retoring FISA.”
Shoulda put the dime in the tank…! 8-P
nope – cause not having a dime to call dad with was a sure fire way making sure the caddy would vapor-lock – the other thang it did extraordinarily well besides run outta gas.
You know what hit me today? When I finally got to the gas station to fill the truck and refill my 5 gallon lawn mower gas can.. It now costs me more to fill my lawn mower can than it did to fill the truck seven years ago.
Weren’t there 11 convictions among the pardoned bunch?
‘Throw me in dat der Briar Patch, Brer Fox…!’ 8-(
i wanna know what is really in the forking bill
has anyone done a good analysis of what the forker really says?
I’ve never been wrong when I just figured out what Bush’s self interest would be in these situations. The Libby pardon for instance. That article was a couple of weeks before the verdict. In this case, Bush’s self interest is to stay out of jail. He’ll pardon the whole fracking planet if he has to.
sux for sure es. the days of a tank of gas for under $10 is long gone and aint coming back
Anyone still up ? *g*
Y’all are Parr-tay animalz !
Maybe one of our good Dems will let us hear it… Word-for-word as the Clerk drones on…! 8-)
but that wasn’t a pardon.. it was a commutation of his sentence – did he not grovel enough for fearless leader?
Right. Wrote a check and *poof*
I think Keith needs to accept the fact that he is not a lawyer, and start listening to those who are…and not just one of them, but a broad range of legal opinion
I’m no expert but I’d bet that half of the Bill contradicts the other half, so our Great grandchildren couldn’t decipher it and pronounce everyone of our generation as mentally dysfunctional …
Oh and Happy Canada Day !
My dad told my mom running out of mustard was grounds for divorce. They had a wonderful marriage for fifty-three years, but watching him slather the mustard on a dagwood, I believe he meant it. And she never ran out.
boosh’s legacy
Someone explained that a commutation of the sentence meant that Scooter didn’t have to testify. I don’t know if that’s true, but it might explain that. Either way, Bush was safe, near as I can tell.
and start talking to those 15 d’s who voted no as to why they did so
I’m sure that Glenn would be game…! ;-)
Just heard some fireworks outside. It must have been you guys. ;-)
It was to get Darth off of Chimpy’s back
*Geese* … *g*
I’m thinking Turley, also.
Keith uses him enough on other subjects, why not this time?
it just came across like Keith got his ego too wrapped up in this one
It’s true.. a pardon would require an admission of guilt, iirc. but it (a pardon) definitely would mean Libby couldn’t take the fifth anymore.
Good Point! Hmmm…
Something got wrapped too tight, that’s for sure. This is the sort of stuff you expect out of Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly.
ES- crikey! you still up? What’s on YOUR mind?
It’s not pretty, I grant that.
But those guys are liars. Stone liars. KO just got his t*t in a wringer and can’t find his way out.
Turley has talked about FISA too… Particularly, back in August, IIRC…! 8-(
Happy Canada Day!
(((Petro)))
….can’t wait ’til I celebrate as a resident alien with a work permit….
you still looking at vancouver,bc doc? what do ya need to be able to move there?
Come on up Kirk, we’ll party from July 1st to 4th … *g*
Ooh nooo… Not an alien! ‘Course, there’s always worse places to be an alien, illegal or not…! Hmmm, like here…! ;-)
Um … a cute Vancouverite ? *g*
Am I still up? You are a time zone later than me! *s
fork!
ES, you deserve that good sleep when it comes.
I sure hope KO has Turley on tomorrow night to attempt to clear things up. I missed his special comment, was it worth watching ?
all that walking musta tuckered ya out es. hope you have your dogs elevated and restin
That’s the funny thing, Suzanne. I’ve seen almost no analyses. In fact, I had to dig to find it’s number, i.e., H.R. 6304, and here’s something from the ACLU: http://www.aclu.org/safefree/g…..80619.html
Here’s what the universally trusted legal authority ;^) Wikipedia has to say on the subject:
Wiki link here.
To me, it looks like the President’s power of pardon is taken to be, how do we put it these days, plenary? Anyhow, I’m sure what you wrote is how it works for most people, but for friends of the President, it seems to be different.
He was passionate and chewed out Obama, but, I was left perplexed as to what he was advocating…? 8~)
dude
Murkier than I would have liked, but…
newt- re: this- “KO just got his t*t in a wringer and can’t find his way out.”
Is there an “inside baseball” term for this? I’m thinkin of some…
yeap – crickets about what it really means and enables if signed into law. i would love to see lhp or marcy go over it with a fine toothed comb to see what is really in it.
Glenn Greenwald wrote about it in some detail a week or so ago. I wouldn’t call it an analysis so much as a critique.
Hi VG. Did you see brownsox’ comment on Chambliss v Martin at kos today?
Thanks CT & newt !
The poor guy has no idea what he’s talking about. And, I’m starting to worry about John Dean.
ES- you and Suz make me stay up late!
stuck between bases with no where to go?
that would prolly tip the balance….gotta follow the heart.
Petro, thank you for your kind invite…my brother gets married July 5th, and the families assemble starting the #rd…on Orcas Island. So newr, yet so far.
Suz, what’s waiting at this point is a BC health care facility that needs a slightly used shrink who loves working with medically ill patients.
I’m not certain if this is accurate, but I’ve been told Canada would ratehr give work permits to the earleir 40’s than the later 40’s.
Hope that’s wrong….
Just my own vulgar sense of it.
I think “I was wrong”, or “I realize now that this wasn’t what I thought it was”, or even, “I disagree with Obama on this one” would probably have worked, at one point or another. Might have been refreshing, in fact.
Guess I’m used to a business where you admit your mistakes and learn from them.
usually exceptions made for specialty positions… fingers and toes crossed kirk
We can’t help ourselves.
“I’ve been told Canada would ratehr give work permits to the earleir 40’s than the later 40’s.”
I would question the veracity of that statement.
Am really zoned out – thought you said retsina (a/k/a retchina). Actually, sounds kinda good.
dayam, no utube for ya gotta sin to get saved by maria mckee *sigh*
YAY!
I sure hope it’s non-veracious….one of the many occasions I’d be delighted to find I was repeating crap.
Sunny, thanks for the link. I hadn’t seen it.
But, you can also read this:
http://www.tondeestavern.com/s…..entId=4259
I just don’t know, except that Vernon Jones totally sux.
Any idea who this brownsox person is?
the way my fingers have been misbehaving tonight, i would not put it past them (still giving em dirty looks for messing up margot’s name – i’m gonna use a fork when i eat my slice of white chocolate cheesecake with raspberry topping with white chocolate drizzled across)
and the nasty ole enn ess aaa can watch me knowing they don’t get a slice – not even a crumb of the exquisite crumb crust
maybe I should threaten a certain figurine *g*
The exact title is H.R.6304 The FISA Amendments Act of 2008.
looks like petrocelli is steering ya straight and ya won’t need to
Hmm. Speaking of admitting mistakes, why didn’t I just read the next line?
OK, so maybe it is an admission of guilt. Still seems like it’s possible to pardon him for just about anything, though, if the Nixon pardon is an indication. Heck, why not pardon him for crimes he hasn’t yet committed?
I have the feeling that the law shouldn’t work this way, but …
And you can get a PDF of it here: http://www.eff.org/files/filen…..01_xml.pdf
Pffft, if St. Joe is really powerful, he’ll bring a buyer to suz’s door tomorrow with wads of cash …
(d’ya think positive blackmail will work ? *g*)
newt, well, I guess I haven’t been listening to enough baseball commentary of late. Because, as far as I know, this is not a bb phrase. Really, I was thinking more like- is there a phrase for when the pitcher gets hit in the nuts by a bunt?
KO failed to get the early memos.. We were all focusing on immunity, not because the rest of the bill was acceptable, but because killing immunity would kill the whole bill / make Bush veto it.
Generic phase suggesting that someone is in some situational discomfort.
i have threatened to make his next abode inside my septic system if he didn’t get off his tushkie and find me a buyer
The decision to accept does not have to be made until the last minute. And I’ve seen no place where one has to formally admit guilt or that there is anything other than a possible social stigma attached to acceptance of pardons.
I think it’s called “amazing”.
‘Ball Breaker’…? That’s a new one on me…! ;-)
That would do it for me … *g*
i think that is if one is petitioning through doj to get a pardon. if the prez does it all on his own, there is no admission of guilt but there is taint and the person no longer can use the self-incrimination thing to hind behind for that offense
but ianal so i could be blowing smoke
fork.. to hide behind… dayam fingers
Know nada about brownsox. re: link – sorry to see it’s come to that..
The bill consists of 114 pages of what John Dean describes as exceptionally sloppy legal prose. Again I suspect that John is wrong. My (admittedly baseless) suspicion is that this was carefully crafted by highly paid legal wordsmiths, who felt that if they made it sufficiently opaque, they could slip anything past the rubes in Congress.
omigod! I am really LOL at that one!
“Funny” is another word that comes to mind. You’d have to be having a bad day to get hit anywhere above the knees by a bunt.
Not saying it couldn’t happen, mind you ..
Sunny- I see you read my comment!
Allegedly accepting a pardon is considered to be an implicit admission of guilt, but without consequences. I think that’s from the Wikipedia entry on pardons.
But, but, St Pete is already off his butt, he’s buried upside down…! ;-) (Remember that St. Pete, one checkmark at least…!)
It’s 3 a.m. in Toronto and I have a day of heavy celebrating on tap for tomorrow … *g* … G’nite all !
g’nite petro – happy canada day
nite petro
yeah, I know. Not probable, but best I could do on the spur of the moment.
st joseph aka st joe
Oops, I got my Saints all mixed up … here’s hoping Pete, Joe & Friends deluge Suz with lots of cash very soon !
Thanks … love and hugs to you all !
i do have to admit, i am starting to think of him as a little joey lieberman
Aloha, Mi Amigo…! Maybe St. Pete can find ya a publisher…! ;-)
sleep well, petro!
thanks for the good word.
D’oh…! *g* That’s why I’m a baha’i! ;-)
Hitting the wall myself..
Good night fabulous firedogs
nite eureka
CT- but baseball is so rich in lingo, I thought someone could come up with the exactly right phrase. An admixture of bb lingo, in malaprop way. “He hit a foul ball into the infield” doesn’t quite do it. or, “he thought he hit one out of the park, but he got tagged at first”…. etc. etc.
maybe he’s not been so active because i’m not a catlick…
g’nite eureka… hope you have a better day tomorrow
Aloha, ES! Sleep tight!
Doesn’t Ball Breaker’ fit the bill… It’s not actively used in MLB lingo…! ;-)
caught in a suicide squeeze? isn’t that a baseball term for being caught between bases with no where to go to be safe?
Okay, I’m starting to find some stuff on it, and it’s not good. Check this:
That effectively replaces the Judicial Branch by the Executive Branch for the purposes of issuing search warrants.
Buster would fit too…!
goodnight, Eureka. Good dreams.
Goodnight, Petro. Happy Canada Day!
wow, what a money saver! /s
shit
how does that contrast with the old fisa bill wigwam? is it a change or is that the procedure in place to go before a fisa court already in place for extigent circumstances?
Hi Pups,
Just got back from the Robert Plant/Alison Kraus concert. It was so wonderful! Got to go back stage (cuz I used to babysit Stuart Duncan) and meet ROBERT PLANT!
okay, and I checked out KO wiki. I was particularly mentioning BB, because (wrongly) I thought that this was his specialty when he was doing sports broadcasting. Looks like FB terms might apply as well, but I got no clue there.
that is way way forking kewl, loohoo and i’m so forking jealous
Verbal from a designee is sufficient…
Currently, its 72 hours after the fact…
Loo Hoo!
how cool!
Suz! Great call. Gotta say I had never heard the term, but here it is:
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-i…..queeze.htm
I did know the term “squeeze play”, but didn’t even think of it!

Kirk, Along with Vancouver, I love Vancouver Island. Nice ferry ride to Vancouver and the island is amazingly diverse (pacific rim shore is knock-out). No idea about the med situation in Victoria..
ok, pups, i’m getting up to that ratio of typos to words that tells me its time for me to stop typing and start washing dishes. g’nite all
Aloha, Suz! Heh, I’m seeing three sets of comments…! I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
nite suz
And, wigwam, but talking about trivial BB stuff, I am not meaning to ignore your great comments, great as ever. Total apologies. I’ve had to take a mental vacation, but I am glad to see that other pups are on the case.
Suz, I’m going to have to report in tomorrow night. I’m at my daughter’s house and keep getting a spinning wheel of death on her computer. She has to keep changing the plug in between the mouse and the keyboard. Plus, she lives by the train track in Encinitas and it’s a mofo. Tomorrow.
Hugs,
Loo Hussein Hoo (greatest respect for Funny Diva)
typo… “BY talking about”… gosh, I wish edit would come back.
‘nite Suz. I’m convinced your cottage glistens.
This would seem to eliminate the need to show probable cause to a member of the judiciary.
Judiciary? What judiciary?
I’m afraid I’m going obsessive on this one. But it is a very big deal. There is a vast schism in the progressive movement between the Obamistas/pragmatists and the so-called purists. Kos finally came down on the purist side: http://dailykos.com/storyonly/…..732/544398
((((((((nahant))))))) been thinking about ya all day & oh so happy you checked in on da lake to let us know your long day finally concluded and hope your snoozing away…..and sleeping in manana.
Hey all you fine late late nite firedogs – a sight for sore eyes following a much too long day/night buried in paperwork and other museum nusiances.
constitution = quaint But you get to keep your armory!
Whose left on board? Insomniacs? Hawaiians?
Anyway, I just saw the replay of Olbermann’s special comment. I thought it was an unusually nuanced comment. He laid out some interesting choices for Obama.
I guess we will all be looking forward to John Dean’s upcoming essay on FindLaw.
Bob in HI
Yep. And Glenn’s reply.
Goodnight, Suzanne.
Why, that’s the right that guarantees all the others, isn’t it?
(Anyone who has read The Gulag Archipelago would think that thought ridiculous, I think.)
shiver…
True, it feels like a guide to a possible future America, doesn’t it?
Well, it’s starting to look like I’m the last one standing. So, I’ll just say Happy Canada Day, and be off. Goodnight, all.
So I take it the London tabloid with picture of raging Bill Clinton with the Obama can kiss my ass quote has been forgiven by the candidate & staff? Ut oh, this will teach me to be so tarty to the lake.
Happy Canada Day right back at ya Cujo!
nite cujo. happy Canada day
i’m out as well
take care of it, pups
This seems worth watching considering the Iran spectre. The Israel Lobby:

Richard Silverstein guardian.co.uk, Monday June 30, 2008 Article history
The President loves to talk about getting government out of the way so that business can create jobs. What he never said was he only meant oil jobs.
Bush’s decision to stop all solar projects on federal land
“There are 125 applications by solar energy companies to build facilities on public lands in those states.
Instead, the government sponsored solution was ethanol from corn. That “solution” was a complete disaster. US biofuel plants are going bankrupt as fuel prices rise at the pump and grain and fertilizer costs soar. Producing ethanol from corn makes no sense. To make matters worse, ethanol producers receive a taxpayer subsidy. And finally, tariffs make importing ethanol 3 times as expensive as it should be.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..chnologies
My bold What do you want to bet that George is substituting his judgment for the markets because you mix ethanol with gas?
Where oh where are the freemarket conservatives when we need them?
“There are 125 applications by solar energy companies to build facilities on public lands in those states.
I wonder how many jobs would have been created?

MIT reports prototype solar dish passes first tests.
A team led by MIT students this week successfully tested a prototype of what may be the most cost-efficient solar power system in the world–one team members believe has the potential to revolutionize global energy production.
The system consists of a 12-foot-wide mirrored dish that team members have spent the last several weeks assembling. The dish, made from a lightweight frame of thin, inexpensive aluminum tubing and strips of mirror, concentrates sunlight by a factor of 1,000–creating heat so intense it could melt a bar of steel.
MIT Sloan School of Management lecturer David Pelly, in whose class this project first took shape last fall, says that, “I’ve looked for years at a variety of solar approaches, and this is the cheapest I’ve seen.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..chnologies
Melting Steel with 12 foot mirror! America’s steel industry could take everyone if the cost of the fuel to melt steel were free!
But Bush is concerned about all the environmental damage a mirror can do?
This doesn’t pass the smell test Ralph Nader couldn’t find an environmental concern on this!
But Bush has achieved his goal I’m sure this will hurt Solar power in America. I’m sure that this will help G.E whose stock is hurting because it will give Nuclear power a chance.
I’m sure Mr Swift Boat, welch on a bet, T Boone Pickens is thanking Bush for killing the competition to his new GE turbines wind farm.
After all if solar takes off any home owner with a roof could generate power and then what would happen to the power companies and energy traders like Enron or its successors?
Wind is good but because of the size and noise you need space and no neighbors 2 factors which lend wind to central power grids and rich pigs like T-Boone making money off of people, especially if he can retain a monopoly.
Slowing Solar Power by stopping development on public lands is a good start to help T-Boone I wonder if this is Bush’s way of paying him off for the swift boat ads against John Kerry?
Nite Wigwam!
Several startups, including HelioVolt in Austin, Miasolé in Santa Clara, Calif., and Nanosolar in Palo Alto, are working on a new technology called flexible thin film that’s on the brink of making solar more competitive. Nanosolar has just begun to ship its thin-film solar systems to a German utility.
Made from pliant sheets of foil, the solar panels can be molded onto roof shingles, which are at once more attractive than clunky, heavy glass panels and less expensive to produce. In fact, the cost of making thin film is so much lower than traditional solar panels that experts say it could produce electricity for about the national average of 10.4 cents a kilowatt hour.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..chnologies
America is finally starting to build some good Solar Products too bad it looks like Bush wants to kill the industry. Imagine every home with a roof in America generating power.
Thanks to America’s addiction to air conditioning Summer rather than Winter is when America consumes the most power to cool our homes.
Peak demand is what its called and unlike Winter where pictures of voters freezing to death scares politicians and power companies from charging more for power.
Summer Air Conditioning however is seen as a luxury, so the power companies can charge what ever they want.
However if everyone has solar panels on their roofs then the power companies most profitable season and time turn into an expense as they would be forced to buy the excess power from homeowners!
Bwahahaha!
Fascinating!
good night pups… really…
So called blue-chip stocks have struggled mightily over the last year. The total loss in market cap from their 52-week highs for stocks in the S&P 100 (largest 100 S&P stocks by market cap) is now $2.5 trillion. Below we highlight stocks in the index that are the furthest from their 52-week highs, as well as the loss in market cap from their 52-week highs. As shown, General Motors (GM) is 75% from its 52-week high, Lehman (LEH) is 72.4%, and Wachovia (WB) is 71.7%.
Looking at market cap, GM has lost $18 billion (it is now worth a little more than $6 billion), which ranks it 42nd in terms of losses. General Electric (GE) has lost the most in market cap at -$168 billion. Citigroup (C) isn’t far behind GE at -$167 billion. BAC, AIG and MSFT round out the top 5 in terms of market cap losses.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..blue-chips
Great chart at the link all those lets buy the Dow index mutual funds people must be screaming.
I’m thinking its the Pension Funds screaming loudest. People buy blue chips for safe profits, big profits, and dividends which are what retired people trying to live on Interest without eating their Principle want.
If this trend continues until November the retired vote will be ours and well because of their age Retirees were the most likely to have racist attitudes.
Even racists after all hate being poor.
Nite Newtonusr
When the two schools of thought are directly opposite, you end up with a form of cognitive dissonance. This has accelerated as prices continued to go higher, even with relatively modest core inflation.
I have been surprised by how many reality-based economists — including those on the left like Professor Brad DeLong and NYT columnist Paul Krugman — were so reluctant to embrace elevated inflation as a genuine threat. There was a bit of a circle-the-wagons mentality about economics as a discipline. That seems to have faded in the face of elevated food prices and $143 Crude Oil.
Here’s a suggestion: If the professional economists’ data states that inflation is contained and unemployment modest, and at the same time the population sentiment is screaming as if neither were the case, perhaps it’s time we consider that it might be the data, and not the population, that is the source of our dispute.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..the-public
My Bold, Italics I agree the numbers we do have our screwy.
Its one thing to talk up the value of the Dollar Greenspan did it quite often but nobody predicting anything accurately relies on any Government numbers anymore.
if you had a net worth of $10M in 2000 and voted for George Bush (or, if you lived in Florida, if you did not fully punch your chad for Gore) because you liked his tax cuts, the question you have to ask yourself is if you are 67% better off now than you were then. If you do not now have $16.7M from a $10M start, then you have lost ground. The money you worked for your entire life, not to mention the value of other assets you may have like homes, boats, cars, stocks… has been discounted by 40% over the past 7 years of Bush economic policy.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..lar-policy
Why do I hammer Bush on economics well the popular perception is that the GOP knows business this is one of their strengths.
This strength is a lie.
Karl Rove looks for people’s strengths and makes them weakness just ask John McCain the “Manchurian Candidate” according to Rove. Just ask John Kerry about Swift Boating.
Karl Rove lies very well to make strength appear as weakness.
I try on the other hand to expose the lie of GOP business expertise, why because they use business as a reason to justify everything 9/11 does not cover.
Because the more I look at the GOP the more I realize just how bad they are at Business. The Chicago School of Economics is wrong!
The Left needs to destroy GOP economic ideas and replace them! We need to fix the infrastructure! We need green Power! We need National Healthcare!
In the long run those three ideas will save us so much money.
i would NOT call either Brad DeLong or Paul Krugman Left economists. delong is, i think, center right (unless he’s changed drastically from when i used to read him ever day – but got too pissed off to continue) and krugman is center or maybe center left.
Thats what the guy who wrote the article called them to him they look Left.
To us no
